YOUNG MINDS AT WORK
YOUNG MINDS AT WORK ….. HABITS They can change your perspective on life, be revolutionary, and help win wars. If not followed, however, they are mere words of wisdom that will not provide any help. People often urge us to believe in God, karma, or a central spirit. I urge you to believe in habits. Habits are like a ball that you throw at a wall. No matter how long the passage is, the journey of life is longer, and the ball will come back. It's up to us to decide what type of ball we throw—good or bad. Enough with the ball; let's return to habits. When we initially form good habits, we do so forcefully, as good habits are a long-term game and show no instant results. Many become tempted to quit, while a few persevere. These are the good habits that are challenging to attain. For instance, I started playing chess and kept at it for four months but won no awards. Out of frustration, I quit chess. Meanwhile, my friend Dhruv persisted and won the National Open, securing a spot in the best colleges through his sports quota. I could only wish that I had continued playing like him, reminiscing about the times we used to play at the same level. Developing bad habits is an entirely different game. Unlike good habits, they are easy to adopt and provide instant results, which, let's face it, offer only momentary pleasure followed by agonizing pain and, at times, could prove to be fatal. Creating habits is the easy part; following them is the gruelling part. As they say, life is a highway, and I believe that the cement of that highway is habits. Make your habits, follow them, sit back, and enjoy the sweet results of your habits shaping your life. KIAAN GARG VII - DAMODAR Dear younger Aashvi I hope you are doing well. I am a twelve-year-old version of you, writing from the future. I believe that you are currently eight years old. I thought of writing this letter to you as you will be going to a new class, that is the fourth grade. You will meet many new people and make new friends. Just make sure that you do not get into bad company. You will face many situations over the years. This is the time when you will experience many changes in life. You will encounter both good and bad people. Secondly, never get diverted from studies. Even if you are unable to do well, do not get demotivated and work harder next time. Always respect what your teachers and parents say. Lastly, never forget to explore your talents. You will turn out to be a very talented orator, artist, and singer. Socialize with people, and you will make amazing friends. If you understand and implement whatever I have written in the letter, you will definitely be successful in life. Apart from that, you will win three scholar badges (at least at the moment; maybe you will win a few more scholar badges and perhaps a scholar blazer!). You will also participate in many competitions and win them! You are a very sincere child, and you will do very well in academics and co-curricular activities. Never give up and don't ever get demotivated. Yours truly Aashvi Thakur VIII- Amazon AASHVI THAKUR VIII - AMAZON
YOUNG MINDS AT WORK ….. What makes life so full of joys? Let us know, dear girls and boys. Joy and beauty, does it make life fun? Beauty is in the flowers and the shining sun. Gardens and valleys are full of flowers, It's more joyful than looking at buildings and towers. Waterfalls and mountains, shimmering in the sun, Don’t you like to play in greens, jump and run? But slowly and slowly, life’s getting lesser joys, Do you know why, dear girls and boys? Trees are cut, flowers are torn, Animals are exploited, by breaking their horns. Is this behaviour, fine girls and boys? Do you want to save nature and bring back the joys? Let’s pledge to save the beauty and the joys, Do you promise dear girls and boys?. ISHIKA AGGARWAL VII - INDUS Today I am nobody, aiming to be acknowledged by everybody, trying to gather the courage to devote my life to helping others. I want to change the world, at the speed of light. I want to help the other people fight against the dreary droughts and the evil earthquakes. I closed my eyes, To see my future, To see what the world has nurtured. I want to decide my destiny with my deeds, to fulfill my dream. I want to take one step at a time, I want to make the world chime, Yes, I will be the change maker!!! AYAAN SALUJA VII - CHENAB
YOUNG MINDS AT WORK ….. Once upon a time, Not so bright. I was playing with slime, Wished things came to life Then up I brought, A giant thought! What do I want? From Amazon.com What do I prize? And want in front of my eyes Will I get it? Or stay sad and sit So, I talked to my parents, For clearance… To buy a possession, To calm my aggression. They said “Yes” I screamed in happiness! What did I buy? A pie! Why this junk? I say to myself in lumps. Donate it to a clown? No! That would make him frown!. I just want to eat it, But toppings I needed Fillings Too! Salsa? No, Ew! REYANSH SINGH RATHEE VI - NARMADA Apples, Berries, Bananas. Tasted like sand in a savanna! Chocolate or Vanilla Maybe a Combo, yeah! So that I chose, Then I froze. At the age of seven, Made me feel like I was in heaven! Now I’m satisfied, Negative emotions too! Who should try this next? Maybe You! That’s all I’ve got to say. Bye! Have a nice day!
YOUNG MINDS AT WORK ….. Things I want to do as a teenager An interesting question to ask. The children who come into their teenage years have different opinions about the life ahead of them. I think that being a teenager is an interesting part of your life because you make your own choices and decisions. The first thing I would do is have a makeover of my room with pictures of my favourite authors and movies. Then I would study hard to get into a prestigious University. After a while, once I turn 18, I will learn how to drive and buy a beautiful artifact for my parents to showcase in our living room. Then I would start my own boutique and a library, a two-storey building to showcase my talent for fashion design and my collection of authors and genres. Once done with all of these things, I will chill and Doodle on my room walls to make them look colourful and cute. Lastly, I would join an NGO so that I can help the poor people with clothes, etc. I shall also read to children in the NGO so that they can learn to read and write and have a bright and exciting future ahead. And just to sum up, I almost forgot, I will scold and help my brother with his studies!!! “The sky is full of stars and there’s room for all of them to shine” . MIHIRA DAS VI - KAVERI TO MY MOTHER A mother is a person whom her child will know before knowing himself/herself. A mother is a person her child will recognize before recognizing himself/herself. A mother is the world to her child, and so is the child to his/her mother. This is a thank-you letter to my dear mother because you have given me strength in every weakness of mine. You helped me learn to talk, walk, ride a bicycle, and swim. I was scared of the world ahead, and you helped me face and fight it. I was scared to speak on the stage, but you were there cheering for me in the audience. You helped me study; without you, I would fail. I have no words to express how thankful I am to you. Without you, I would not be sitting here writing this letter. I will never forget you, Mom, not even in my dreams, for you have helped me overcome all my weaknesses and given me strength. YOUNG MINDS AT WORK ….. A family that travels together, stays together. A family vacation is the best time to bond and make memories for a lifetime. It gives you experiences that will last forever. Vacations are a mix of love, laughter, gossiping, excitement and joy all together. I love travelling with my parents during my summer break. I always look forward to new exciting locations. The vacation I enjoy the most is a beach vacation. The day my cousin told me about her visit to Lakshadweep, it became my dream destination too. I want to enjoy all the adventurous sports there. Some of my personal favourites are snorkeling, yacht riding and kayaking. There are many luxury hotels where we can relax, sunbathe and even build sand castles! I want my vacation to be stress and gadget-free. I want my mom and dad to be involved with me rather than staring at their mobile phones continuously. I would really love to swim in the vast and crystal-clear ocean feeling the waves. My parents and I, just relaxing and floating and gazing at the bright yellow sun, talking away without a care. Looking for seashells on the sandy beach always fascinates me. The feeling of the warm and wet sand under my feet would be delightful. And then, at night, seeing all the heavenly bodies out there in space and stargazing. Oh! What a lovely vacation that would be. My dream is not going to stay a dream for long, as one of my biggest wishes is about to become a reality this summer. AADVIK GUPTA VI - KAVERI If I were the ruler of the universe for a day, I would treat humans and all living things well so that they stay happy. I would build a huge kingdom, not only for myself to live in but also for all humans and animals in my surroundings. I would never let them starve or die of thirst by ensuring there is healthy food, clean water, and fit kids. I would travel through the universe in search of that one thing which will help my people in almost everything they want to do and achieve. I would have a party to which everyone would be invited—rich, poor, young, or old. I would want some soldiers to protect my kingdom from bad people. I do not know if I would be able to do all this in a day, but I would never break my people’s hearts. I would strive to be the best ruler in one day. I would! YOUNG MINDS AT WORK ….. I Post Therefore I am ! Planning to go for dinner? We need a photo of what we’re eating. Heading to the movies? A photo of the end credits is a must. Going on vacation? It’s incomplete if you don’t find the time to click a picture of the boarding pass! Because without these photographic evidences, how would we actually prove that we had fun? Not being on social media even for a day gives one FOMO (Fear of Missing Out!). Nobody cares about your carbon footprints, but a social media footprint is a must. As is the trend these days, having no social media presence means you’re as good as dead because there is no PROOF of your existence. Forget that René Descartes ever said, 'I think, therefore I am!' (It isn’t Billie Eilish who said it first, by the way!) 'I post, therefore I am!' is the new philosophical reality for the beings of today. We spend more time editing photos than enjoying the moment. We live life through a screen. We count our ‘friends’ by the number of our ‘followers.’ Our self-worth is measured by the number of ‘likes’ we get on a post. We battle over followers and likes and forgo real relationships. Social media, which was once meant to be just a part of our lives, has become the most vital part of our lives. Our very existence, it seems, depends on it. We have let something controlled by an algorithm control our minds, thoughts, feelings, and our self-worth. Social media was meant only for entertainment, but we have successfully turned it into a vicious cycle of derogatory comments, self-pity, posts, likes, and a determinant of who we are as a person. So, what’s the way forward? Well, I don’t know; maybe the title has some cues! YATEE KAUSHIK XII - THOMSON MAHIR DHAMIJA XII - ARCHIMEDES That Night… That night, everything seemed stagnant, as if time itself had stopped flowing—a cold wintry night where the crowded streets appeared empty, the air filled with the noise of crickets singing some distant melody. As you walk slowly back home, such a night makes you wonder; your mind fills up with long-forgotten memories. A night like this prompts you to think and ponder about the decisions you have made and the life you are currently leading. As the cold wind grazes past your shivering shoulder, you try to contemplate where it all went wrong. Was it when you thought you had done well in the examination but somehow still failed to make your parents proud? Or was it when your grandfather died, the night after we… Just as these thoughts begin to encroach upon your conscience, you snap out of it. It could be the smallest distraction—the leaves rustling under your shuffling feet, the street lights flickering, or the sudden chill that goes down your spine. No matter what it is, it brings you back to the present moment. You'd better not go back to where you came from. And so, you're almost meditating. You are quiet—your momentarily silent mind in an endless night. For a brief moment, you are thinking of nothing as you walk on. In a conscious attempt to find something to replace your previous thoughts, you gaze at the world around you. A short realization occurs, reminding you that you actually exist in such an intricate world. As minutes begin to flow by, which now feel like hours, a warm shadow under a local street lamp engulfs you. It is an old, familiar face. You begin to talk. You start discussing the mundane, and an involuntary smile breaks across your visage. And you walk on, along the street with the shadow of an old, familiar face.
YOUNG MINDS AT WORK ….. Individuality in a World of Conformity In a world that moves on rules, Binding their head to the ground, Would it be a sin to travel, The road less travelled by? In a world revolving around structures, Would they banish us if we tried To change and unsymmetrically grow Without following the ‘chosen’ path? I have my own time to prance on, To run and chaotically dance, For if the galaxies could collude and re-form, Would I be punished to try? To disperse in to a million stars, With clouds azure and thunderous applause, Would I be celebrated with the same acclaim, Would I be the next ‘new star’? Oh, how the world runs by the clock. If only I could be spared To graze the sky’s coloured streaks Instead of limiting our sphere. Alas! To create and build our lives a new Over the mounds of shackles this life imposes, Over this world of conformity Seems almost far beyond our reach! PRANJAL SHARMA XII - ARCHIMEDES
YOUNG MINDS AT WORK ….. Claim Yourself It is daring to hold Opinions of your own In this day and age Where everyone tends to think the same. You must conform. Forget your principles; You’ll have to transform. Society will have you dance to its tune. You must mould your mindFollow the herd. Don’t be the black sheep, Or you won’t be heard. Think for yourself. Make your place. You’re one of a kind; And that, you must claim! SAUMYA BABBAR XII - WORDSWORTH Do You Remember? Do you remember The little girl With dreams? Her eyes used to sparkle Like stars Her smile used to bloom Like flowers. Do you remember The freedom she had Before she was defined And moulded Into what they think Is good and what’s bad? Do you remember Who you used to be And what you had Before the world told you What you need to be And what you need to have? Do you remember? Oh! How I wish I did! What was I? How was I? The little girl I knew? I truly lost her I know I did. TAVISHI SHARMA X - MONARCH Fall, a Modern Haiku Leaves falling Way past their prime. Fall, most melancholic time We approach the end of the year; The future incessantly draws near. The breeze weighs me down; The faces around me frown. Soon, the weather will change And, so will I… HIYA DHADWAL XII - WORDSWORTH
YOUNG MINDS AT WORK ….. A Study in D-Minor As a piano student, I believe any kind of classical music, played on any instrument, can be compared to one’s life. This piano classic, composed by Albert Loeschhorn, starts immediately at a high tempo, resembling how most days of a student’s life commence with a fast-paced and hectic rhythm. The difficulty this song presents to the player is akin to the challenges presented by life itself. All notes played in this composition are in legato, meaning each note smoothly transitions to the next. The smooth transitions of life’s phases mirror this legato progression. The piece features a medium-paced, soft interlude for a brief duration, depicting the enjoyable moments in one’s life and how fleeting they can seem to be. The repetition of notes in the second half symbolizes the routine nature of each day in a student’s life, where every day is almost the same, yet retrospective reflection reveals significant changes. The subsequent measures bring a sense of peace to the player as the song eases from its challenging and demanding segments to a more soothing and fluent pace, providing the player with a sense of achievement. Similarly, in a student’s life, the period after exams offers a comparable sense of peace and perhaps even achievement. The concluding measures of the song return to a more fastpaced tempo, resembling the nights a student spends studying for entrance exams. Finally, the piece comes to a sudden single-note end, reflecting a final contemplation before the dawn of a new day awaits. PRITHVI SUBHASH JANGID XII - LEONARDO SIMAR GEHANI X - MONARCH I Am Moved By… The simplest of actions Can have the greatest of effects, For it is what we do that matters More than mere words in a sentence. The feeling of happiness That a person can get When one who they trust Knows them better than themselves. The veracity of a gift For sure outweighs the expense, As it shows that thought Matters more, along with intent. But at the end of the day Who do we have, but ourselves? For people always leave And we have only our presence. That is why I say I am moved By just one thing and one thing aloneThat no one can love me better than myself alone!
YOUNG MINDS AT WORK ….. KESHAVA P. PRASAD XI - EINSTEIN A Dystopia Close your eyes for a moment and imagine a world where machines run the world. Heartless beings exploit each other for personal gain, and humanity is a long-forgotten relic of the past. Now, open your eyes and realize that what's in front of you is nothing short of what you imagined. We live in a world where the problems of the future appear to be AI, climate change, and whatnot. However, in reality, the problem actually lies with us. People lament that AI is taking their jobs. It's futile to argue that AI won't take their jobs. But our fear that we, our children, and our grandchildren will no longer have jobs because of AI is irrational. Think about the most remarkable revolutions in history and employment changes. It all happened with the growth in technology. And that's what AI is— technology! Consider the ATM revolution or the computer revolution. Sure, millions lost their jobs, but the market landscape changed and evolved, and employment rose like never before. It seems nothing but our human tendency to be afraid and apprehensive of change. In my opinion, it isn't AI but human intelligence that seems to be leading us towards a dystopia.
