Tommy's Robot
- Story by: Andreuw Frinkle
Tommy was a smart kid. He
was great with computers and
with tools. He was always
searching for a new challenge
and something new to build.
Today, he decided to build a
robot, so he went into his shop
and got to work.
First, he worked on the
electronics. He had to get all the
wires, lights, and sensors ready.
He was very busy all morning
putting the pieces together.
Second, he started designing
the body of the robot. This took
a lot of metal and plastic. He chopped, cut, shaped, and welded
the pieces into the proper shape. It looked really good so far.
Next, he began assembling the robot. He had to rework pieces to
fit together just right. After all, the robot had to move around and
do stuff. It was important to make sure it could do everything he
wanted when that was done, it was time for a lunch break!
It was alter lunch when he started working on the programs for
the robot. It wasn't enough to have wires, lights, motors, and
speakers in the robot. It had to do stuff, and that meant he had to
use his computer to tell his robot what to do.
156 English Book - 2 Approved by the Curriculum Development Centre, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur
The final step was to decorate the robot. He added stickers, paint,
and decals. Then he added some neat designs to the robot's chest.
Now, it was finally time to test the robot. Tommy ywawned
and flipped the power switch. The robot hopped up and began
moving around, full of life.
"What are you orders?" The robot asked.
"Clean up this mess. I'm tired and need to go to sleep." Tommy
answered.
Making robots was tought work, and he didn't even have the
energy to paly with his creation. Minutes leater, Tommy was
asleep, while his robot cleaned the shop.

Tintin the Tomato
It was a sunny afternoon. A small boy came into the kitchen and
saw a watermelon. He went to his mum and asked her to give
him some watermelon. He liked it very much. Later on, his sister
came and asked her mother to give her an apple. The family was
having sweet juicy fruits on the hot summer afternoon.
Looking at that, the vegetables in the kitchen decided to have
a meeting. Pappu the pumpkin, Tumbe the turnip, Likhuri the
Lady Finger, Banti the Bean came together. They thought fruits
were taking all attention.
Tumbe complained, “No one likes us, the vegetables.”
They decided to change.
When the fruits saw what vegetables were doing, they too came
together and had a meeting. Walter the watermelon, Bunny the
banana, Punte the peach came together. They too complained.

They were ready to fight. They chose their leaders: Pappu and
Walter because they were the biggest.
“You are sweet and pulpy,” said Pappu. “You are colourful and
tasty. So people like you and they do not like us the vegetables.”
“No!” said Walter “People like you the vegetable because you
have nutrition. They love to have you. You are getting all the
attention from people. Not we the fruits.”
At the same time, there came Tintin the tomato.
“Aye! Stop! Stop arguing. People like both fruits and vegetables.
All of you have nutrition. All of you are important to stay a person
healthy. Don’t argue. Be like me calm.”
Do you know why Tinin said so?
It is because he is both vegetable and fruit.
