Natasha van Soest

A few things the IB taught me (alongside integral calculus and the complexities of molecular
biology):
- Balance, gratitude and awareness are all founders of happiness
- The greater the effort, the greater the results
- Curiosity can make learning a whole lot more interesting
- Confidence has magical abilities
- They say motivation and perseverance are the key to success for a reason
- Channel stress into a driving force, not a debilitating weight
- Make choices today that you will benefit from tomorrow
- Seeking help/advice is a bigger sign of strength than of weakness
- Eventually, even the red lights turn green

Thank you AISL for being my home for the past fourteen years. Words will
always fall short expressing my gratitude towards this community that will

always hold a special place in my heart.
To my sister, you are the light of my day <3
And to class of 2022, if our paths don’t cross again, I wish you all the best.

“All the world’s a stage”

Coming to Zambia 4 years ago, I really didn’t know what to expect. But it’s safe to say that all
the new places and cultures that I visited and experienced, really shaped me into the person I
am today. Being the class of 2022, it is safe to say that we have certainly experienced a lot.
From riots to a global pandemic however, with all that’s happened we have definitely grown

as
leaders and as people. So, Class of 22, here’s to all the things we have experienced and here’s

to moments we are yet to experience!

comprehends.”

– Touko Aozaki (Kara no Kyōkai)
If you have a vision different from others, then you aren’t weird but
different. And sometimes being different is just what makes you,

you and not the average Joe.

My time at AISL has been CRAZY (in a good way), and I will always cherish the many
memories and friendships I have made here.

Thank you to my mom, my dad, my brother, (special shoutout to Lorca), and my friends who
have supported me in more ways than I can express; you all mean the world to me.
It has been one hell of a journey, and here is to many more.
Hasta la proxima!

The past two years have genuinely been some of the most difficult in my entire life. Faced with endless
challenges, both in the IB and in my personal life, I’ve spent months doubting my self-worth, my
intelligence, and my purpose. But, amidst the tears and sleepless nights, I have learned the following;
1. Listen to your gut instincts, please. If your stomach tells you not to do IB Chem, don’t do IB
Chem.
2. Don’t procrastinate! I say this as I write this message the say it is due :)
3. Take care of your mind, soul, and body. Without those three things, you’ll quite literally become a
walking corpse.
4. Slay all day, every day.
5. Lastly, life is short, make the most of it.
While you do so, make sure to surround yourself with people who will make you the best possible version
of yourself that you can be. This, I can say with confidence, has been my greatest achievement. So I
would like to thank my friends that have stuck by me, both inside and outside of Zambia. You guys (and
you know who you are), have taught me how to love, even when it hurts, and how to laugh when all I want
to do is cry. For that, I’m forever grateful. And thank you to my family for keeping me grounded, to my
teachers for not giving up on me, and to my coaches for always believing in me. Though I am moving
forward to the next chapter in my life, your impact on this one is most certainly valued.
That’s all I have to say. Stay litty <3

me”
