Band and Choir News

Band News

The band program is back in
full swing! The highlights of
our year include the All Bands
Concerts, ISSEA Band, and PYPX
performances, as well as the
exploration of various genres of
music through composition and
solo preparation.

Choir News

In Choir this year we had two large
concerts. In the December concert we
performed more traditional choir pieces
like folk songs, madrigals, and holiday
music. The June concert was quite
different as we performed modern
pop music selections. The Choirs also
performed at Zambia Day and for
Black History Month. In addition to
this, 12 advanced singers were asked
to participate in ISSEA Choir, hosted
virtually by ICS Addis Ababa. It was a
great school year filled with song!

Grade 12: How it started

How it ended...

Class of 2022

Colette Chungu

1. What can I say? It’s been a mad 16 years at AISL. There were many moments of joy, happiness and
sadness, and even a couple of mental breakdowns in between. However, this journey would not have been
complete/possible without the support and love from the people around me. That is why I would like to say
a thank you to my friends, Coach K, Coach Albert, Coach Mo, and especially my family. For being my ROCK
and keeping me grounded through this journey. All that’s left to say is. “Chapter closed”(Coach K)
2. Thx R,M,J,O,B,S,N,T,V,T,K you guys made my senior year memorable.
3. Thank you to all the teachers who supported me through this journey. (you know who you are)
4. Don’t I repeat DON’T do IB Physics
5. @girls football team.. Never forget to “apply speed”
6. “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”
(Maya Angelou)
7. “Nobody can define your destiny but you”

Stay open to information, that’s it. You don’t need passion to learn, but
you do need a sense of direction. Don’t expect yourself to shine every
day, but make sure that you’re moving forward. Accept the challenges

given to you, and do it knowing that nobody else will do it for you.
Asanteni sana.

Leah “Nkweto” Kasolo

It feels like just yesterday it was my first day of kindergarten. I had stars in my eyes and everything
seemed perfect. Years have gone by since then and they certainly haven’t been perfect. Some moments
were excruciating, others pure euphoria, and some were simply “Meh” but I wouldn’t ever change them.
These same moments have taught me a lot of the lessons I hold close to my heart. I’ll list a few.
1.Family isn’t whose blood you share but who you love and who loves you back. Thank you to my family,
and the friends who became my family for being with me through the first chapter of this crazy journey
called life and planning on sticking around for chapter two. You’ve taught me that no man has to be an
island.
2.At the end of the day when all is said and done it’s your life. No one can force you to do or be anything you
don’t want to. The sooner you figure that out and start living for yourself and loving yourself, the fewer
regrets you will have.
3.What is supposed to happen will happen. If it’s not it won’t. Life always ends up working out how it’s
supposed to. You just have to speak it into existence and have your eyes open to see it.
4.Silence is violent, always speak out.
5.If you want to binge dramas and anime till 4 am just do it, it’s so worth it.

“Take a chance, because you never know how perfect
something can turn out.”
– J Cole

Margaret “Maggie” Moore

At this moment in time, it seems absolutely crazy that in a matter of weeks, I’ll
have a diploma in my hands. Though it’s been a long time coming, the realization

of moving out and living on ramen is equally as daunting as it is exciting.
I’ve put in a lot of hard work, but there is no question that I wouldn’t be
where or who I am today without God or my family, for which I am eternally
grateful. As we move into this crazy next stage of life bound to be filled with many
highs and lows, I trust that we will face them with tenacity, resilience, kindness,
and understanding, as we have been preparing to do for the last 18 years.
Best of luck to the Class of 2022, I know you will all do incredible things!

Simnikiwe “Simsim” Mthethwa

“We all make choices in our lives, every second, every day, and
those choices they define us, but they don’t control us.”
- Renee Hope Blasey

“My journey through the IB was as smooth as sandpaper”
- Simsim Mthethwa

Twange Mumba

A wise man once said: “for everything in life there is a season.” My journey through AISL will be a season to
remember. We’ve seen moments of happiness, and great joy as well as moments of sadness, and even shed
a tear or two. This journey has been priceless, truly one for the books. I am grateful to the school for giving
me the opportunity to study here; immensely grateful to my teachers for making learning fun and classes
memorable. Grateful to my friends and my family for caring for me and supporting me, it means the world
to me. Above all, I am grateful to the LORD. He is the reason for my joy in every season; He loves me and He
sticks closer than a brother.
“Hello tomorrow, I don’t know what you hold. But please, please may I borrow, some peace some love
some hope to sustain myself…Aliko mulungu Jesus is the hope, Aliko mulungu He is love, Aliko mulungu He
is the peace and He is there to help you sustain yourself…My God is love and He adds no sorrow to those He
loves and He loves me” (Esther Chungu).
“Taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalm 34:8)
