It gives me immense joy to know that the
students of FIMS are releasing yet another
edition of the college e-magazine, bringing
hope and positivity amidst the pandemic.
The seamless digital transformation that
the team of FIMS embraced amidst all
adversities is really applaudable. This e
-magazine is an example of how even the
students have smoothly integrated digital solutions to face
the turmoil in the Covid-19 situation.
I acknowledge the tireless efforts and contribution of the
staff and students of FIMS in bringing out this e-magazine. I
wish that this platform that nurtures creativity will continue
to enthrall its readers.

Mr. P. K. Ahammed

Chairman, FIMS

It is giving me immense pleasure to know
that the students of Farook Institute of
Management Studies are bringing out the
second issue of the e-magazine “FIMS
MINDORA”.
Compiling rich and creative collections
through this e-magazine amidst the adver-
sities of the Covid-19 crisis has put for-
ward a new positive dimension of the students- to construc-
tively view any contingency.
I sincerely hope that the magazine inspires a diverse reader-
ship and engages, entertains, and ignites the reader’s mind.

Secretary, FIMS

Albert Einstein quotes “Education is what remains
after one has forgotten what one has learned in
school.” It is the supreme art of a teacher to awak-
en joy in creative expression and knowledge. It
gives me a great sense of honour to know that
our students of FIMS are coming up with their
creative expression of an e-magazine during the
COVID -19 lockdown periods. Individually and
collectively let’s engage in such resourceful works
‘printed in the form of electronic letters’, to serve
the real purpose of education... Knowledge is a gift from The Al-
mighty who has ordered us to read in His name. Lockdown can only
bolt us physically, but our thoughts and intellect cannot be locked by
any situation. Our students have proved it by releasing this e-maga-
zine during these tough times. This shows that our students are capa-
ble of facing any obstacles in life.
I would like to praise both the faculty team & the students edito-
rial board for unleashing their hidden potential and making this e
magazine a creative template where their ideas & thoughts are not
merely discussed but executed. Let me extend my sincere wishes
and prayers to The Almighty for all the positive initiatives of our
students. Sincerely,

Mr. N.K Mohammed Ali

Treasurer, FIMS

Everyone at FIMS is delighted to see the launch of
2nd E – Magazine being launched during this pan-
demic period. The role of a B- School is much be-
yond academic excellence and ensures the holistic
growth of our students by motivating and empow-
ering them to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers,
and productive members of an ever-changing global
society.
In the process of creating a magazine our students
get molded with the characteristics of an absolute
professional who is capable of making long lasting leadership con-
tributions and delivering effective managerial talents. It develops the
instinct to look around and update on contemporary issues, meet new
people, network, develop team skills, work towards deadlines etc. The
variety, content and creativity of the articles in this magazine reveal
the talents of students and faculty at FIMS. My sincere greetings to all
who are behind this e-Magazine, the management, the authors, edito-
rial team, faculty, staff members and all the students of FIMS who are
one way other associated in this endeavour. I am sure that the positive
attitude, hard work, sustained efforts and innovative ideas exhibited by
our students and faculty will surely enlighten the minds of the readers.

Director, FIMS

“You can only plant the trees apart, but cannot stop their
roots from embracing each other under the soil” as quoted
by Rumi. The Covid-19 lockdown has succeeded in social
distancing of our students due to the locked campuses. But
their roots as FIMSians are still very much active for cre-
ative interventions and virtual teamwork. Nothing could
stop them from coming up with this beautiful piece of cre-
ativity during this pandemic in spite of the distances and
shortage of resources. They have proved that they are not
just a bunch of managers, but a team of wonderful human beings who are
not ready to give up.
I am really proud of these young ladies and gentlemen who are coming up
with an e-magazine at FIMS to spread hope and optimism during these tough
times. Any appreciation would be insufficient for this awesome initiative.

Dr. Ahamed Riaz K

Deputy Director, FIMS

As another unprecedented year of this pandemic pass by, I
was pondering over how the year went? Most of the FIM-
SIANs cleared another academic year by working and study-
ing remotely. A year without fresher’s, cultural day, and send-
off party for the seniors.
But life goes on, and this is the biggest lesson that we have
learned from Corona. Corona has made us question our life-
style choices. It has taught us that being minimalistic is a new
way forward. We all have faced something which otherwise
would have been called “odd” as the new normal.
Since the arrival of the pandemic, I have felt my world shrink; FIMS felt hollow
without our vibrant student community. But we’ve stayed in touch and pulled
through as a team once again bring you the second edition of our magazine
FIMS Mindora. I am grateful for my teams’ willingness to continue our un-
flagging work to document FIMS’s history. We are striving to harness the full
scope of our community and environment just as we did before the pandemic.
I hope this edition of the magazine FIMS Mindora, provides you with some
comfort. I hope it makes you feel closer to FIMS, and I hope it reminds you of
the connections and opportunities awaiting us when we’re all back together.
I thank my leadership, all faculty, and staff members who helped us in publish-
ing. I also wish all outgoing students of 2019-21 a bright future ahead.
With this, signing off,

Prof. Riyas ALI M.K Farook Institute of Management Studies 5

Executive Officer’s Message

It is a matter of immense pleasure to know that the
students of FIMS are coming up with an e-magazine
during this lockdown period when their campus is
closed. I am proud of our students who are facing the
challenges thrown at them by online education. When
the entire world is passing through this lean phase our
students are showing positive vibes by exhibiting their
teamwork and literary skills. I am proud to mention
that these students have upheld the legacy of the historic Farook Col-
lege campus by coming up with such student-driven initiatives. They
will definitely be leaders of tomorrow.
Let me extend my heartiest wishes to the entire team behind this en-
deavour.

children should be able to read
by the age of ten.

Reading is a gate way for
learning as the child progresses
through school and conversely,
an inability to read slams that
gate shut. Beyond this, when
children cannot read, it’s
usually a clear indication that
school systems aren’t well
organized to help children learn
in other areas such as math,
science, and the humanities.
And although it is possible to
learn later in lives with enough
effort, children who don’t read
by age 10 or at the latest, by the
end of primary school, usually
fail to master reading later in
their schooling career”.

Ethics is a philosophy or discipline
concerned with what is morally good and
bad and morally right and wrong. The term is
also applied to any system or theory of moral
values or principles. It is the basic values, ideas,
beliefs, through which a person acquire either
hereditary or through their growing life or
through experience. Ethics is a part of a person
through his or her life. Ethics is very important
in business. What is business ethics? Why is
it important in today’s world? These are some
questions that you may go through.

Business ethics deal with ethics in business,
and with the constant process of optimizing
profitability in the context of what is right
and what is wrong. It is a study of appropriate
business policy and procedures and works
accordingly in the right path to acquire
profit.

Accountability is the quality of taking
personal responsibility for your decisions and
actions by sharing them with a trusted partner.
Being accountable can be as simple as making a
commitment and sharing it with another person.
For example, in business subordinates are
accountable to superiors as well as organisation
to the society likewise. Thus we can say that
accountability is a tool for growth.

In today’s environment business is growing
a very fast pace. Lots of people are coming
with the innovations which generally leads to
increased competition in the economy. In order
to survive this competition and to run profitably

there is certain obligations or duties each
company has to perform.

Businesses have developed a system
of social responsibility that helps in the
company environment. The social responsibility-
ethics and accountability are also important.
If they have a proper ethical values then they
would be more accountable and discharge their
responsibilities in a proper manner. CSR can
help you improve your business performance,
increase competitive advantage and build trust
with customers and employees. Perhaps most
importantly, CSR gives your company and your
brand a positive image of a reputable ethical
business.

If social responsibility, ethics and
accountability are maintained within a
company, then the employees and the
environment are held equal to company’s
growth. Maintaining social responsibility
within a company ensures the integrity of
society and environment are protected. Every
business aims at making a profit. While every
business wants to make a profit, such profit
should be made by following the basic rules of
society. Thus we can say that these three
elements are the very important part of the
business or a continuing commitment of the
business to behave ethically and contribute to
economic development while improving the
quality of life of the workforce and the
community and society at large.
