ROTARYINTERNATIONAL–COOPERATIONWITHCORPORATESFORCSRPROJECTS

Page 8

Page 9

• Rotary International is 115 years old Organization and the Rotary Foundation has experience of over
103years.

• Rotary is spread over 200 countries with more than 1.2 million Members across the Globe, distributed
among 35,000 Rotary Clubs. It has received highest 4 Star rating from the world acclaimed Credit
Bureau-Charity Navigator for each year, over last 13 years.

• Rotary has played vital role in eradicating Polio disease from India.
• Rotary is supported and well trusted by many Corporates and Philanthropist including Bill Gates

Foundation.
• Rotary is present in India, for more than 90 years and have more than 4,000 Clubs across the Country,

with over 1.5 lakhs Rotarians, having implemented in access of 2000 projects in “service for humanity”.
• Rotary District 3141 covering Mumbai Region including Dahanu and Palghar, have more than 100 Rotary

Clubs, with dedicated 5,000 Rotarians.
• The “Thrust Areas” of Rotary International and the “CSR elds” laid down by the Government of India U/S

135 of the Company Act, are quite complimentary to each other (please see the attached broad
comparison).
• Rotary Clubs have excellent “track record” for implementing projects to serve the humanity, within
planned budget and time schedules.
• Rotary can handle projects to suit the CSR budgets of various Corporates i.e. starting from a few lakhs to
multi crore rupees.
• The award of the CSR project by the Corporate to the Rotary Club, would possibly be the beginning of
the long term partnership.
• The essence of the partnership is the transparency, commitment culture, accountability, ethical
practices, diligent and compliant way of cooperation, ful lment of the conditions of MOUs, and at the
end, the satis ed Corporate.
• Rotary Clubs individually have direct possibility of utilizing the funds received from the Corporates in
the Rotary Club’s Trusts, for the purpose of intended project without any additional cost, i.e. within the
CSR budget of the Corporate.
• Alternatively, if desired by the Corporate, Rotary has possibility for increasing the CSR contribution from
the Corporates by way of supplementing partially with the “matching grants” from our District 3141 as
well as RI Foundation (plus possible nancial support from the Rotarians and the Rotary Clubs). This, will
enable the Corporates to cover larger sections of the Society compared to his original plan. This would
require a handling cost of 5% on the Corporates contribution.
• Rotary has a “high level of acceptance” and deep “trust” among those sections of Society for whom the
projects are proposed to be implemented. Also, Rotary enjoys respect from the Authorities, for various
approvals for the projects.
To summarize, the professional approach of the Corporates is matched completely by the Rotary Clubs and as
such they would complement each other, as they are having a common “objective” of helping the weaker
sections of the Society.

PROJECT : PALI HOSPITAL M1

OBJECTIVE:Improvement of Eye Care in the rural areas of Maharashtra, India. Community to be served is the under privileged
population of the entire District of Raigadh and surrounding areas in the state of Maharashtra without any bias or preference
regarding religion, gender or caste etc.

Project Proposal
Need for procuring state of art specialized medical equipment. Currently, RCBHS is working to raise funds to procure following
equipment:
1. Perimeter that is used to measure the extent of peripheral or side vision. It is a computerized test that detects early vision
loss. This test is helpful in early diagnosis of Glaucoma and helps in restoring vision, which otherwise would have lost. This is also
helpful to check whether treatment of Glaucoma is adequate when it is repeatedly twice a year. Cost: Approximately Rs.16,00,000/-
2. OCT device that uses infrared light to scan the retina and its layers. Using OCT, the Doctor can visualize the retina in almost
microscopic details. OCT has become essential in the management of retinal diseases like Diabetic Retinopathy, age related
Macular Degeneration, and Macular Edema. OCT for Glaucoma measures the optic nerve ber thickness. It can detect Glaucoma in
early stage. This is also helpful in monitoring the adequacy of treatment of Glaucoma patients who are on treatment. Thus, OCT is
very useful equipment in diagnosis of Retinal Diseases and Glaucoma, both. Cost: Approximately Rs.25,00,000/-.

Total CSR Funding : Perimeter Equipment INR 16,00,000
OCT Equipment INR 21,00,000
Contingencies INR 2,00,000
Total Cost INR 43,00,000
CSR Funds : INR 37,00,000

Location :PALI, DISTRICT RAIGARH, MAHARASHTRA

Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
The catchment area is very large as there is no eye hospital within 80 kilometers radius.
Anyone needing eye care will be treated irrespective of religion, gender or caste etc.
Approximately 40% of the patients will be provided free treatment. During the last
Rotary Year in 2019-2020, more than 5,000 patients were treated at the hospital OPD &
400 surgeries were done free of cost. Since the nearest eye hospital is about 50 miles away, almost 250,000 people have access to
the ‘Pali Eye Hospital’. The target number of bene ciaries is therefore around 17 to 20% of this population and belong to the middle
and low-income strata of society. The project is a unique 4-way partnership involving the following:
• The Rotary Club of Bombay Hills South, who have conceived and are implementing the project, have secured funding for a
large portion of the project cost and are seeking additional funding to complete the project primarily for procuring medical
equipment etc.
• The Ballaleshwar Devasthan Trust at Pali village who have donated the land
required to build the hospital.
• The Lal Rohra Trust who was the principal donated a sum of US$ 1,00,000.
• Currently, Laxmi Eye Hospital located at Panvel is providing medical &
technical support on a continuing basis and managing the medical treatment of the patients.
The project meets the requirements of having the approved area of focus and
sustainability as stipulated by Rotary International:
• Area of focus: “Enhancing the health infrastructure of local community” –
namely rural areas around the Pali village.
• Sustainability:
i) Medical support & management: The Laxmi Eye Hospital Trust are providing
quali ed Eye Surgeon who is stationed in the hospital on a continuing basis. The Trust will also provide technical and medical
support for patient care.
ii) Local resources: One of the project trustees is the Pali Temple Trust who have shown great enthusiasm for the project, have
donated the land and will continue to be associated with the project as team members on the committee. They are con dent of
receiving donations from the pilgrims visiting the temple for the hospital. Paramedical sta required for the hospital will be recruit-
ed from surrounding areas of the hospital. Training will be provided in coordination with Laxmi Eye Hospital by selecting appropri-
ate personnel from the villages. Administrative and other skilled/unskilled personnel will be recruited from the community.
What do you expect from the CSR ;
To raise the required funds of Rupees Thirty-Seven Lac for procuring new equipment(s) that will be used for early diagnosis of Glaucoma, and
prevention of vision loss, diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration and macular edema amongst the underprivileged popula-
tion of the Raigadh District & surrounding areas in Maharashtra.
Time Frame : Both the equipment(s) to be Procured & Installed before 30 June 2021

the surrounding districts. The total population of this area is 2.5 crore. We intend to treat at least 200 children every year and with a
follow up will be serving at least 300 children every year 5 years from now. The best part about this clinic is we will be able to create
awareness and also get referrals for children from underprivileged section who have other treatable conditions like rickets. And also
allow us to make sure that any child who has any other ailments can be taken care if simultaneously .
It is a global experience of 30 years that clubfooot clinic is able to treat 98% children completely who will walk into society as
normal individuals. The model has been successfully replicated worldwide with astonishingly consistent results . It was popularized
by PONSETI a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon from USA and greatly expanded by Dr. Sha que Pirani.
The incidence if disease is consistent and with a regular clinic the number of children treated is only likely to increase with further
scope of treatment of all preventable and treatable disabilities.

PROJECT : ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE- HOMEOPATHY M7

OBJECTIVE:Alternative Medicine (Homeopathy)
ARH was established in 1986 with an objective of carrying out research in homoeopathy so that this cost-e ective therapeutic
approach nds its due place in mainstream medicine. Over the years challenges of health care have changed dramatically. Accord-
ingly, ARH has made changes, conceptually and operationally, to face the “21st century challenges”. This proposal relates to setting
up an inpatient department at ARH centre at Airoli.
Project Proposal
ARH is routinely handling cases of Fever including viral diseases like Dengue, acute gastro-enteritis, prolapsed intervertebral disc
(Sciatica), jaundice, and gangrene etc. in a cost-e ective way. Of late, they have also handled a few cases of cancer especially in the
elderly for palliative treatment.
Many of these cases need observation under IPD therefore, to cater the needs of patient and to provide a ordable care to the
society ARH is planning to extend its operations so as to start an IPD which will be a supportive care to the homoeopathic
treatment. This would include patients from rural areas as well for further investigations and assistance.
The Project envisages equipping a 15 Bed In Patient Department with all necessary infrastructure (without land and building) to
make it fully operational. Space for IPD is already available with ARH in their premises. Equipment to be supplied include ECG
machine, oxygen cylinders with regulators, bed with side rails, instrument trolleys, air conditioners, computers, nebulizers, X Ray
Viewer and other standard items required for an IPD. A detailed list of the equipment can be submitted on request.

PROJECT : ENABLE DEAF CHILDREN TO “ LEARN TO SPEAK” M8

OBJECTIVE:Auditory Verbal Approach.
With Covid-19 having spread around most of the world, these last few months have been tumultuous for all. This pandemic and
subsequent lockdown has resulted in a crisis for the many children who come to AURED for treatment and therapy.
We have had to close our clinic temporarily but therapy and audiological management (trouble-shooting the device and mapping)
requires continuity and a breach in the schedule will invariably lead to reversal of the progress these children have made.
We have initiated a one to one online therapy programme One to one therapy is mandatory in the Auditory Verbal Approach. It
enables deaf children to ‘Listen and Speak and integrate into the mainstream and Mapping which is the audiological management
of implants and is required at regular intervals. Close monitoring of therapy sessions is being carried out and the results are promis-
ing. Our vision is to ensure that all our present and future students can avail of this facility. We have over 900 children enrolled with
AURED, from 93 cities, small towns and villages. More than 80% are from underprivileged families of which a large number avail of
our mapping facilities only as the cost of travel and accommodation on a regular basis is beyond their nancial ability.

Project Proposal
Due to their nancial circumstances, the majority of our children do not possess laptops or tablets, and we realised that without
one of these devices, children would not be able to continue therapy. Our initial request for 40 tablets and 7 laptops is just a
beginning. Our vision is to ensure that all our present and future students can avail of our online facility.
We plan to o er online training to village school teachers, in Auditory Verbal Therapy. This can be done in several regional languag-
es. We will set up a support system for these teachers so that children with cochlear implants whether sponsored by the govern-
ment or others, can avail of therapy and mapping.
Ours costs will include not only devices for children and sta , but also salaries as the number of therapist’s increases.
Over a span of 3 years we would like to provide therapy to at least 300 of our students.

Total CSR Funding :

3 year budget: Rs20,00,000/-
100 tablets @ Rs 20000/- each Rs 2,00,000/-
5 laptop Computers @ Rs 40000/- each Rs54,00,000/-
5 salaries x Rs 30,000 x 12 mths = Rs 18,00,000/- x 3 yrs =

Location :

Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
Our current programme has several advantages.
It enables connectivity with our local and out-station families in other cities, towns and villages, enables us to facilitate tele-therapy
and tele-mapping sessions. This eases their lives in many ways:
• Reduces their trips to and within Mumbai, saving them travel and living expenses
• Eliminates the need for children to miss their regular schools
• Saves parents from taking time o from work and home responsibilities
• Allows long-distance counselling
• Enables trouble-shooting of hearing devices
• O ers immediate consultations on speech and language development
• Connects caregivers with instant access for behaviour control and management strategies.
• Entire family can participate in tele-therapy sessions

AURED has always been a pathbreaker, with a history of many ‘ rsts’ and now we are eager to turn the present crisis into an oppor-
tunity for permanent good. This project will enable AURED to amplify its outreach, which is already global, by opening many virtual
doors.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the entire nation to a halt
Health o cials and medical professionals are struggling with containing the disease, testing and treating a ected people.
The risk of spread in rural areas is heightened. This is due to a number of factors, including lack of awareness, a limited supply of
clean water, low levels of nutrition, and most importantly, ill-equipped and insu cient public health centres and district hospitals.
Thane is amongst the top ve worst-a ected districts in India and the government is focusing on controlling through the
Chase-the-Virus initiative. The Thane is the worst-a ected with 7,311 cases and 237 deaths as on 22-06-2020 due to COVID-19.
Provide free of cost optimized care for COVID-19 patients, especially with economically backward and from rural areas with poor

PROJECT : DONATION OF EQUIPMENT TO TATA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL M10

OBJECTIVE:The main objectives of our project is to;
1.Improve the capacity of doctors by providing them hemodynamic monitoring equipment, anesthesia gas modules and cardiac
ultrasound equipment.
2. Enhance the hospital infrastructure by equipping the operation theatres with hemodynamic monitors and anesthesia gas
modules, as patients undergoing surgeries require continuous monitoring of their vitals, which can be done by use of the hemody-
namic monitors and anesthesia gas modules, and use of cardiac ultrasound equipment is extremely important for critical care and
will be installed in Surgical ICU as well as main operation.

Project Proposal
Patients undergoing cancer treatment under any of the three arms of treatment – surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy, at some
point need services from the anesthesia department where they are subjected to full general anesthesia or given procedural
sedation. In each such instance these patients require monitoring of their vitals (heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation,
ventilation & temperature). The equipment proposed to be given are advanced hemodynamic monitors and anesthesia gas
modules which will ensure patient safety and guarantee proper depth of anesthesia. It will therefore improve the capacity of the
doctors and enhance the infrastructure by providing them hemodynamic monitors for continuous monitoring, similarly also the
Cardiac Ultrasound equipment will improve the capacity of doctors & enhance hospital infrastructure for critical care. Cardiac
dysfunction is very common in critical ill patients. Cardiac ultrasound is useful in deciding causes of shock and line of treatment.
Ultrasonography is also useful for the examination of the lungs. It is also used to diagnose deep vein thrombosis which critical ill
immobile patients are at risk. It was therefore determined that there was a need to equip the operation theatres with Monitors and
gas modules and the main operation theatre & surgical ICU with the ultrasound equipment

Total CSR Funding :Rs 96,48,450

PROJECT : ENT OT ENDOSCOPY SYSTEM M12

OBJECTIVE: Endoscopy examination is far superior as a diagnostic and operative tool. Nasal and airway endoscopy allows early
diagnosis of nasal and airway diseases which cannot be seen on clinical examination. As surgeries take less time and bleeding is
less, the morbidity is less therefore reducing the patient’s hospital stay and provides a scarless surgery.
The Department of ENT and Head & Neck surgery is one of the speciality departments of Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College
& General Hospital. The department has had the privilege to serve the public at large for the past 75 years. We usually cater to about
200-250 patients in the OPD daily and about 40 patients admitted in the ward. It provides comprehensive care in all subspecialties
of ENT
Project Proposal
Proposal for raising donation to purchase High De nition Endoscopic suite (High de nition endoscopic camera, monitor, LED light
source, high de nition exible chip on tip camera, nasal endoscopes, NBI)
High de nition endoscopic system with nasal endoscopes and laryngoscopes are used to diagnosis various ENT diseases. It is used
in Operation theatre for performing various cancer, airway and sinus surgeries. This system will particularly be useful in early
detection and treatment of cancers in the nose, oral cavity and the airway. This system is also useful in operating various skull base
surgeries such as pituitary surgery, intracranial JNA surgeries, intracranial and intraorbital extension of other nasal tumours.
High de nition exible chip on tip camera and Narrow band Imaging (NBI) is used especially by laryngologists and voice experts. It
enables an incredibly precise diagnosis of voice disorder which needs no anaesthesia and indoor admission. It is useful for the early
detection of laryngeal cancer, vocal cord paresis and a detail evaluation of all types of laryngeal and airway pathologies.

Total CSR Funding : Rs 50 Lakhs
Location :Mumbai, LTMG Hospital
Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability:
Common eye surgeries performed at very lowest for the underprivileged, approximately 500+ surgeries done till now.
The equipment will be placed in the ENT OT, under direct control and supervision of the Head of Department. It will be used on a
daily basis and will come with a comprehensive maintenance contract (CMC) for 3 years apart from the warranty period. This will
ensure that any repairs can be carried out promptly, thus ensuring that the equipment does not remain idle. Since there are no
consumables required, there will be no recurring cost. The expected life would be 8-10 years. A detailed record of the patients
operated using this equipment will be maintained and be available for audit at any point in time. This project would go a long way
in impacting patient care and help us to serve the community of patients who visit LTMG General

PROJECT : INSTALLATION OF RADIOTHERAPY MACHINE “HALCYON-B” M17

OBJECTIVE:
There are around 36 Lakhs patients su ering from Cancer all over India with approximately 12.80 cases added every year. The
mortality rates in India are very high compared to global average for the reason that our country lacks in screening facility and
awareness about this dreaded ailment and generally patients tend to visit hospitals at the advanced stage.
Due to such complicacy, many such cases are inoperable and require only Radiotherapy as only way of treatment. The need for
Radiotherapy machine is likely to be increased in coming time.

Project Proposal :
The proposed Radiotherapy machine “Halcyon-B” manufactured by Varian Medical systems Int’l Pvt Ltd is the advanced machine,
fast and e cient providing high standard of care. It is the need of the masses who cannot a ord treatment at private hospitals.
Once the machine is installed and is operational an a ordable era of Radiotherapy will began for the common man.
By installing an advanced Radiotherapy machine and screening facility at an a ordable rate, early diagnosis becomes possible
reducing the mortality rates and increasing the survival rate. There are about 5 Government aided radiotherapy centers in Mumbai
and rests are private centers. This eventually proves the need of an added Radiotherapy center in and around Mumbai.

Total CSR Funding :The cost of this “Halcyon-B Machine” is about Rs. 10 Crores, this includes 2 years AMC from the
manufacturer and the hospital is willing to pay Rs. 5 crores towards this.
Expected funding by CSR Rs 5 Crores
Location : GRANT PORT HOSPITAL. WADALA.
Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
The cost of operations, maintenance and the management will be entirely by the hospital with all needed parameters in doing so.
The technical support from the company will be available 24x7 all 365 days. The Doctor and technician team will be designated by
the Hospital for all its operational utilities. The life cycle of this machine is about 12-15 years of continuous operation. This
machine can cater to about 40-50 patients in a single day.
The treatment will be o ered free to the yellow and orange ration card holders and Nominal rates will be charged to the patients
from middle class families. Subsidized rates will be charged to the patients referred by the Rotary clubs in our District. Also the
Hospitals have proposed subsidy & discounted rates to chemotherapy patients referred by Rotary clubs this will eventually bene t
the needy patient to a greater extent.

Time Frame :The approximate time to obtain this Radiotherapy machine is about 6-7 months and once the machine arrives at the site, it
takes about 8-10 days to install the machine. The trial run begins and the machine is fully operational in about 2 week’s time.

Location :Operations to be conducted in Mumbai Hospitals like Raheja, SRCC, Fortis.
Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
There are more than 1 lakh children in Maharashtra waiting for the appropriate heart operation to give them a
lease of life. Touching Little hearts, this project brings a smile to the faces of the children and their parents. The
success rate is very high and thus the child has a very good chance to recover fully and join the main stream of
society to contribute to the society. The hospitals are well equipped, competent doctors are available with
adequate experience to perform the most complicated of operations. The facilities are on par with the best
available anywhere in the world. Thus, this project is sustainable and has a long-lasting impact on the society.
Children from all over Maharashtra from very impoverished backgrounds are the bene ciaries. The operation is
totally free of cost to the bene ciary
Congenital Heart Disease is very much prevalent in our country. In Maharashtra alone around 1 lakh children are
in the waiting list for a surgical intervention. Lack of facilities in the rural areas and the high costs of the operation
are severe constraints. This Project goes a long way in mitigating the constraints and we are able to resolve the
challenge for at least a few of the a ected children. With generous support from Corporates these operations can
be successfully done in Mumbai where the facilities and competence is available at no cost to the bene ciary.
The operations have a high success rate and the recovered child becomes normal and thus contributes to the
community and nation as full performing member from being a burden on the parents and the nation. In the
coming years we want increase the number to an ambitious target of 2000 with help from the corporates. Rotary
International’s support can also be availed of to increase the quantum of funding
What do you expect from the CSR :
Proposed Modalities Request Corporate to fund the complete Project.Corporates to indicate choice of nancing
The hospitals also have access to part of the operation costs from Govt agencies and trusts which can be
bene cially leveraged.
Also there is another option to route the Corporates CSR Fund via Rotary International whereby project funding
levels are considerably enhanced because of suitable matching contribution by RI
RCMM can work out the best way to enhance the Corporates funds to higher levels for Project funding , in line with corporates working
guidelines. This enhanced project funding expands to a wider reach and serves to conduct more operations with the same funding by the
corporate.Preference is for payment to be made to the Rotary Club Trust/RI

PROJECT : MOBILE EYE CARE CLINIC M25

OBJECTIVE:
India's ophthalmologist-patient ratio stands at a dismal 1:10,000. *Largest number of blind in India - estimated at 12 million, which
is soon expected to rise to 15 million. *An estimated 320,000 Indian children are blind. In addition, an estimated 9.2 million children
are functionally blind due to visual impairment.
One of the critical reasons for wide gap between demand and availability of eye care is its inequitable spread; 70% of the nation’s
citizens live in rural areas while 70% of its eye care professionals live in urban areas; this makes eye care delivery to patients in the
rural areas a daunting task to the medical fraternity.

Project Proposal Mobile Eye Care Clinic
After evaluating several outreach options in terms of reach, e cacy and cost : RCMG & MEC planned for a ‘Mobile Eye Care Clinic'
which envisage a great potential to improve the quality, access and a ordability in eye care especially for patients in rural areas by
reducing the need for travel and providing virtual access to a super-specialist right at their doorstep.

PROJECT : PEADATRIC HEART SURGERY M28

OBJECTIVE:
The project aims to arrange open heart surgery to children (under 18 yrs) from economically disadvantaged families su ering from
congenital heart diseases (CHD) who cannot a ord the cost of open heart surgery in order to cure them and enable them to pursue
a normal and healthy life thereafter. Bene ciaries will be screened by Rotary Club of Bravehearts of District 3141 for assessing their
economic background and genuine requirements after being referred by hospital. After a medical checkup heart surgery will be
arranged for them at the hospital.
Project Proposal
Poor children su ering from congenital heart diseases (CHD) cannot a ord costly lifesaving heart surgery and hence they are
considered born to die. This community needs are identi ed by hospitals when patients are referred to them by other doctors,
hospitals and clinics in and around the local community. Such patients are also identi ed during the CHD screening camps organ-
ized by NGOs and medical outreach camps of hospitals. Some of these children are from underprivileged background whose
families cannot a ord the entire medical costs of a heart surgery. Our club through this grant will assist in funding the heart
surgeries of the underprivileged children and whose family cannot a ord such steep medical cost of a heart surgery.
Hospitals which o er specialized children heart surgery facilities have children from all over the state of Maharashtra and even from
other parts of India being referred to them from other hospitals. Also doctors also refer children who are su ering from CHD for
treatment to such hospitals. Such hospitals also conduct medical outreach camps where CHD children are also identi ed.
These referred children are given admission dates in the hospital, get admitted, heart surgeries are arranged and they are sent back
after recuperation to lead normal healthy and quality life thereafter making them useful to their family and community. Some of
these children who visit the hospital for diagnosis and treatment are from underprivileged background whose families cannot
a ord the medical costs of a heart surgery. Hospitals then reach out to NGOs like us and we help such children by collecting funds
for their operations. Over the years Rotary clubs like ours have increasingly come forward to fund these operations through global
grant projects and today it is a very big Rotary District 3141 activity.
After the doctors at hospital have identi ed and referred a case, the social security cell of the hospital will collect all necessary
documents and interview the parents in order to ascertain the genuine requirement of funds. Cases will then be referred to our
Rotary Club and our club Rotarians will conduct an interview of the parents to ascertain for themselves the nancial status of the
child’s family and genuine extent of fund requirement. We encourage parents to reach out to other charitable organizations to
meet a part of the costs. In many instances, the parents are able to get some funds from local temple trusts and sometimes even
the Chief Minister’s fund. This helps us to spread our project fund's assistance to as many cases as possible and fund as many of the
neediest patients.Rotarians then x date of admission as per availability in hospital, get the children admitted, arrange for their
heart surgery and send them back after recuperation

PROJECT : ASAR - ACID & BURNS SURVIVORS REHABILITATION PROGRAM M30

OBJECTIVE
Background: Rotary club of Deonar together with other Rotary Clubs has been performing Free Burns Corrective Surgeries that restore
functional capabilities under a Program called “Operations Restore”‘since 2010. The service partner for this program is the National Burns
Center at Airoli, Navi Mumbai. Roughly around 600 patients from all parts of India have bene tted from this program The Operation
Restore which is now well known especially in Internal parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat etc. gives a new lease of life for the Burns patient.
The Compelling Need: There are some tragic cases where the patients are women, who due their Burns Injuries are spurned by their
families, and also Society. They are abandoned by their spouses, thus stay in their parental houses, not in welcome conditions & in some
cases they are burdened with responsibilities of children.
Acid attacks for instance are numbered o cially at about 300 a year in India, though social workers put the number at close to 1000 a year.
The social ostracization that accompanies such victims needs to be addressed at physical and emotional levels.
We, at Rotary club of Deonar, have often come across this question from the patients in the post-surgery counselling sessions – “what
Next? “. Around 4 years back we started to bring about nancial enablement of case-to-case support to some of the women. Some exam-
ples have been the providing of Sewing machine, Masala grinding machine, Laptop etc. along with the opportunity to sustain themselves
supported by some sponsors and some Rotarians of our Club. There is without doubt, the need for to have a structured program to
support these women.

Project Proposal
• ASAR, will engage with about 20 women in one batch, we will have 2 such batches a year.
• The nancial rehabilitation will involve assessing aptitudes and needs and then looking

to enable nancial independence, some employment / self-employment options such as
o Training: As Nurses, Nursing Aides and in Patient Management
o Provide training and means to ply Cab / Auto Driving
o Provide support in procuring various equipment like Sewing Machines, Masala Grinders
o Assist in procuring micro- nance for setting up Businesses like Photocopying, Communication Centres etc.
We estimate the per instance of the above at Rs 30,000.00 per patien.t.
• • The emotional wellbeing would require extensive counselling sessions pre and post-operative care and then sustained
with monthly sessions for at least four to six months. We expect each patient to require 10 sessions, at Rs1200/session.
We estimate the counselling sessions at about Rs 12000.00 per patient

We propose a 3 year time frame for the program during which we expect other Rotary clubs, NGOs, Government and quasi Government
bodies to take up similar programs. Depending on the success of the rst batches, we would also welcome the scope to expand the span
of this program.

The scope of Collaboration
We have budgeted the outlay of the program as follows
• 20 patients Per batch, each case of resurrection at Rs 42,000.00 puts the total at Rs8,40,000.00 per batch.
• 6 such batches would add up to Rs50,40,000.00

The Rotary Club of Deonar will cover
• Identi cation of bene ciaries
• Need assessments
• Liaison with authorities to get the patient enabled in their chosen area of profession
• Career assistance
• And will contribute One lakh per year

The CSR partner is expected to fund Rs 790,000.00 per batch or Rs 47,40,000.00 for the program of 3 years.
