PROJECT : ROBOTICS SOLUTION FOR MANHOLE AND SEWAGE CLEANING S5

OBJECTIVE:Manual scavenging refers to the unsafe and manual removal of raw (fresh and untreated) human excreta from buckets
or other containers that are used as toilets or from the pits of simple pit latrines. The safe and controlled emptying of pit latrines, on
the other hand, is one component of faecal sludge management. The government calls them "manual scavengers" -people who
clean latrines and sewers.
Repeatedly handling human excrement without protection can have severe health consequences, including constant nausea and
headaches, respiratory and skin diseases, anaemia, diarrhoea, vomiting, jaundice, trachoma, and carbon monoxide poisoning.
These conditions are exacerbated by widespread malnutrition and inability to access health services.
Project Proposal Project Robotics Solution for Manhole and Sewage Cleaning
To save lives. To save workers from infections, poisonous gases
To introduce technology to end manual scavenging
SOLUTION: According to the studies conducted, to reduce the death rates of the manhole scavengers Rotary Club takes the
initiative to use 'Bandicoot' the Robot.(Manu by Genrobotics).
The robot is lowered in manhole which does the cleaning. It comes with a portable generator and a
compressor. The robot arms scoop and collect solid waste. It also has sensors to measure the level of gases,
lights for nighttime use and waterproof cameras to relay the scene inside the sewer.
Genrobotics is an Indian robotics company that specializes in design and development of robotic-powered
exoskeletons and human-controlled robotic systems to address social issues. It was founded in 2015 by a
group of engineering graduates, and is headquartered in Trivandrum, Kerala, India. In 2018, Genrobotics
released the Bandicoot robot for cleaning sewers that had previously required manual scavenging.
Total CSR Funding : Rs 45 Lakhs
The cost Bandicoot Robotics Hardware with Accessories, Training Kit, Shipping
and Packaging and GST is Rs. 40 Lakh
Maintenance Cost at least three years would be Rs. 3 Lakh
Other expenses and exigency would be Rs. 2 Lakh

PROJECT : FLORAL UPCYCLING R1

OBJECTIVE: To create an eco-system to convert ower waste into an economic activity
that will be sustainable over long term focussing on environment and to support
weaker section by creating employment
Currently, temple owers are dumped in the land lls in Mumbai which is creating a lot of
environment hazard.. If the oral waste from these places of worship is considered, it could
well be over 10 tons average per day. If these owers can be reused by upcycling, the positive
impact on environment would be immeasurable. Besides the project envisages support of
weaker section ie transgenders by forming an SHG whereby the operations can result in
direct employment of over 80 persons with an earning potential of Rs 10000 pm per person.
It is proposed that an SHG of Transgender group would be created that will help generate self
employment amongst this section of society who do not nd proper employment and are
thus reduced to begging despite being physically strong and active
Rotary Clubs are located across Mumbai and outside would patronize and buy the products
since it would be rst of its kind project by Rotary intervention that would give sense of
ownership to all the Rotary Clubs. Besides, with an overall strength of over 5000 Rotarians in
the district, the amount of PR for the corporate would be strong.
Project Proposal : Floral Upcycling and Production unit
Target completion within FY 2020-21
Cost of set up: Rs. 50,00,000
Participating Clubs’ Contribution (10%): Rs. 5,00,000
Total CSR Funding (90%): Rs. 45,00,000
Location : Most optimum considering logistics involved.
Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
ECONOMICS: For two tons of Flower waste to convert into any of the products mentioned
below:
1. 80 persons can be directly employed resulting in income generation of Rs. 6-7 lakh pm
2. Revenue would be around Rs. 12-15 lakh. Considering for eg Agarbatti, 2000 packets of 30
sticks can be made with a sale price of 20/- per packet would yield 40000 per day.
3. Cost of Operations including rent, electricity, essential oils, bamboo sticks etc would be Rs.
4-5 lakh resulting in a pro t of Rs. 1 lakh
POSSIBILITIES: There are various possibilities for utilization of ower waste whereby not only
the problem of disposal in hand is addressed but also generates employment. In other words,
a sustainable activity can be planned. The following products out of ower waste can be
made and would be commercially viable:
Incense Sticks (Agarbatti)
Incense Cones
HawanSamagri
Dyes
Time Frame : 6-9 months
What do you expect from the Corporates
The Rotary Club Team coordinates and arranges for all required information and details required by the company. The Club would arrange

PROJECT : DODAMARG FARMER DEVELOPMENT PROJECT R2

OBJECTIVE: Dodamarg Farmer Development Project
Traditional crops give an annual income of Rs. 50,000 - 75,000 INR per acre. This is one of the
major reasons for farm distress, poverty and suicides. Therefore, changing cropping patterns
to remunerative crops such as fruit trees for example, papaya, orange, lemon, custard apple,
guava, moringa etc. is the wayto improve productivity of farming depending on local agro-cli-
matic conditions and situation

PROJECT : MOBILITY ACCESS FOR ALL R3

OBJECTIVE:
Barrier Free Environment is one which enables people with disabilities to move about safely and freely and to use the facilities within. The
built environment. The goal of barrier free design is to provide an environment that supports the independent functioning of individuals
so that they can get to, and participate without assistance, in everyday activities such as procurement of goods and services, community
living, employment, and leisure. The environment means buildings, roads, parks, gardens and other places, services, modes of transporta-
tion, products of daily use, etc. The fundamental principles which have been followed in developing standards / norms for various facilities
to meet disabled people’s standards for safety, convenience and usability. Barrier free design standards should satisfy anyone who is
hampered in his mobility or functioning (as compared with a nondisabled person) as a result of obstacles put in his way by the design of a
building, the choice of hardware and equipment, and the arrangement of outside space. It is necessary to realize that every person, at
some stage of life, faces barriers. A small child, an elderly or in rm person, a pregnant lady, the temporarily disabled, all are vulnerable to
barriers.
Law: The Persons with Disabilities Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation Act of 1995 heralded a new dawn in the
lives of disabled people. For the rst time in independent India, a separate law has been formulated which talks about the multiple needs
of disabled people. The Act stipulates that the Governments, local authorities ensure provisions of barrier-free facilities in all new Govern-
ment buildings and public utilities, roads and transport
Project Proposal : MOBILITY- Access for All
To create a role model of a barrier free area which has all the necessary places & services, which will enable easy movement for all.
Outcome : This model will help the stakeholders & end users to experience living within the barrier free inclusive environment which will
enhance the quality & independence of day to day life with dignity. Upon the success of this model similar designs can be replicated in the
others areas of Mumbai.
Action Plan :
1- To identify all the important public places of utilities & services within this belt of Versova to Andheri.
2- Raise Awareness: To bring about the change where Persons with Disabilities ( PwDs) are accepted & can lead a normal & independ-
ent life with dignity, we have to do so by raising awareness to various segments of our society & by conducting awareness programs like
a- Presentations
b- Meetings/discussions
c- Seminar/conference
d- Workshops
e- Videos
f- Social awareness campaigns ( billboards, posters, whatsapp)
3- To conduct access audits at these premises to be modi ed. Draft a report & click photographs of the existing facilties. Submit the
report with photographs to the concerned stakeholders, owners, management, govt o cer/dept, architect, builder, etc.)
4- To conduct veri cation audit post the completion of structural modi cations & submit it report along with suggestions if any to
the concerned parties.
Total Project Cost: As per the corporates budget, to cover the geographic areas for mobility access accordingly
Location: Mumbai.
Impact
Census 2001 has revealed that over 21 million people in India as su ering from one or the other kind of disability. This is equivalent to 2.1%
of the population. Among the total disabled in the country, 12.6 million are males and 9.3 million are females.

PROJECT : INTEGRATED VILLAGE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT-KASATWADI VILLAGE R4

OBJECTIVE: Integrated Village Development Project for Kasatwadi Village Jawhar, Palghar
To achieve an integrated socio-economic development of the tribal people living in the Kasatwadi village of Jawhar block, District Palghar to
empower them socially, economically, and culturally for living life in all its fullness, dignity, and respect.
We have visited the village and have done a participatory Rapid Assessment (PRA) undertaken by BSVS in the hamlets of Kasatwadi. Our
need-based assessment is ready along with all the Paperwork. We are awaiting funds to start with the execution of the project.
The villagers have to trek through the forest land to reach their hamlet. They cannot undertake any infrastructure development works
because forest rules and regulations do not permit. Some of the padas are interiors and devoid of many facilities and provisions. The
agricultural land owned by tribals is very marginal and many are tilling the encroached forest land for ages and very few are plot owners
except for those who are on the main road.
The purpose of the project is to achieve an integrated socio-economic development of the tribal people living in the Kasatwadi village of
Jawhar block, District Palghar to empower them socially, economically and culturally for living life in all its fullness, dignity and respect.
Thus this project seeks to achieve social change and self – autonomy for sustainable development of the tribal people by facilitating
socio-economic development of children, youth, women, farmers, elderly and di erently abled members especially the more vulnerable
among them without any distinction or social di erences
Drinking water issues is taking away most of their time and energy. Women spend half of the day in just fetching water for the family.
Sustainable livelihood alternatives are limited and agriculture based with just one crop per year. Only few have some petty shops and stores
on roadside. Most of them migrate of jobs during seasons. The forest area makes cultivation di cult because lack of water after the most and
Government support fruit trees and ower trees cultivation and no non-agricultural ventures or businesses. The women are all enrolled in
SHGs but limited to savings and never ventured into any self-employment generation activities.
Seasonal migration a ects the entire family including education of children. The Youth are educated up to SSC/ HSC and only some reach up
to Graduation. It is futile because they do not have awareness to career options and lack career guidance, entrepreneurship skills and
development. They need vocational and technical skills for survival for they have no interest in agriculture. Entrepreneurship development
ventures will bene t them for their future.
Project Proposal :Under the Village Adoption Project the following will be the key areas of focus
School of Excellence – Improving quality of education, career counseling & career guidance and Life
skills promotion
Livelihood based: Income generation activities – agriculture &
agro based livestock development
Community asset creation – Creating water bodies and
developing water resources for consumption and agriculture/
agro-based activities
Environment conservation and regeneration – Mass plantation: and cultivation of ower and fruits
for economic and environmental sustainability
Health - Health & Hygiene, Sanitation of Children, Women, Youth/ Adolescent girls, and Elderly for preventive and curative medical care.
Under Sustainable livelihood interventions promotions it will support the following activities (for Women, Farmers, Landless laborers,
Unemployed Youth)
Support to Second crop cultivation : fruits (fruits such as papayas, mangoes, cashews, amla, etc.) owers cultivation (such as mogra/ jasmine).
Small income generation activities which are agro-based such as backyard poultry and stall fed goat farming, household mushroom and
honey cultivation, Kitchen garden and vegetable cultivation
Small businesses and entrepreneurship development activities (for the landless farmers, widows and Destitute women) such small petty
shops, vada-pav stall, tea/snack stall, fruits selling, juice centers, vegetable selling, dry sh selling, cutlery stores/ novelty stores, stationary
stores, etc.)
Income generation training on food processing and agro-byproducts.
Under Environment Regeneration it will promote the following activities (for Women & Farmers)
Drinking water provision through digging of new bore-wells in needy padas.
Creation of water harvesting structures – household soak pits, digging and de-silting of village ponds, etc.
Creation of water bodies in padas – Digging of new wells, deepening and repairs of old wells, Digging of new bore wells, Creation of village
ponds, etc.
Total CSR Funding INR 47.4 lacs

OBJECTIVE:Aashiyana: Shelter and Sanitation Support to Tribal families in Palghar District, Maharashtra
There is a need to build about 55,000-60,000 houses each year to provide ‘shelter for all’ by 2022 (Housing for All by 2022 launched
by Prime Minister, June 2015). Anchored by the conviction that housing provides a critical foundation for breaking the cycle of
poverty and is at the centre of development:
Government of India’s vision of:
• Housing for All by 2022
• Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (SBA) for making India Open Defecation Free (ODF) by 2019
Planning Commission and Rural Development Ministry, Government of India has taken o cial initiative to assess the quantum of
housing shortages in Rural India. A Working Group on Rural Housing was constituted to formulate the 11th Five Year Plan in 2006
(MoRD 2007). It estimated the quantum of housing shortages for Rural India in the tune of 47.4 million houses. Another Working
Group was once again formed for assessing the shortages for the 12th Five Year Plan. It estimated a total housing shortage of 48.8
million houses for the plan period (2012-17) (MoRD 2011).
According to it, 90 per cent of these shortages are for BPL families which turn out to be 43.93 million houses. Based on the data
generated by projecting growth trends of housing stocks, households, pucca and semi-pucca houses. There are a few individual
estimations of housing shortages that suggest shortages of much more than that of the government estimates. For instance, the
2011 Census and NSS housing rounds (2008-09), suggests that there is a housing shortage of more than 62 million units in rural
India. To cater to these huge shortages, there is a need of speci c policy direction.

Project Proposal : Total estimated Cost of The Project: Rs 2,25,000 per house out of which PMAY-G Gives 1,20,000 and balance
1,05,000 each.
Proposed for 500 houses Rs 5,25,00,000
Club and District contribution: matching 1:1
Current House Conditions:
Tribal families use natural material which is abundantly available in natural periphery, such as grass, bamboos, woods, mud, row
material of crops and cow dung. Normally these houses were get roof leakage, cracked walls and earthen oors which can result in
dampness and provide conducive atmosphere for insects and rodents. Cracked walls provide excellent nesting and breeding places
for arthropods vectors. Earthen oors may also house diseases causing organisms like hookworms and tapeworms. The wall of
houses are made from Karvi (Locally available bush) and it is polished or plastered by mud and cow dung. Roof of houses made by
Kavelu (Manglori tiles) and sometime thatched. The tribal houses in these locations are generally in separate hamlets the houses
are detached from one another.
Project will strengthen local authorities at village level and working group who can monitor the activities on the routine basis as
well as project sta s will support for training –implementation and report with the feedback and nal evaluation of the project.
Project will closely work with the local Government
Before the start of the project we shall conduct a survey in the selected village and after the completion, the same exercise will be
repeated for monitoring and evaluating

PROJECT :UNDER THE OVER - SOMETHING FISHY R14

OBJECTIVE: Adoption of under bridge for beauti cation

Project Proposal What does a subway remind Mumbaikars of?
Probably images of places inundated with water during monsoon, littered and dirty during the dry months.
But how does one beautify a Subway? No space for gardens or statues like under yovers. Maybe just clean up and put lights?
What we would like to do is, take the theme of the Powai Lake and create
an exceptional Aquarium Tunnel feel in the subway using paints.
We would make ample use of uorescence paints to give it a very rich and
real live look. Specially after sundown the glow would make it outstanding
and a crowd pleaser.
Imagine walking through an Aquarium will multitude of shes and possibly
Crocodiles of the Powai lake hovering over you

Total CSR Funding : The entire cost would be between Rupee 12-15 lakhs
including preparatory work, lights, and the painting and e ect of
aquarium.
Location :In the heart of Mumbai, next to the marvelous water body
Powai Lake, there’s a subway under the yover right next to the Powai Police
Station which allows vehicles and pedestrians to cross the road to approach
the Powai promenade to drive down to Chandivali.
Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
We believe we can build a space that the entire community would be proud
of and would connect with. Any Company who helps turn this vision into
reality would bene t by the by the way of community recognition and pride
The Powai Lake being a landmark recreational spot is visited by tens of
thousands of people on weekends. The captive population of Chandivali is
about 500,000. Since this subway is in Powai and serves Powai population
as well as others looking to access Andheri Kurla road, it’s probably a million
people who would normally be using either of the subway and seeing this
wonderful creation. With good quality paint, there should not be any need for any major touch up for 2 -3 years at least. After 2-3
years, minor touch ups may be required at the most. We expect it should last at least 5 years, after which we could probably
recreate a new theme.

What do you expect from the CSR/ Basic Plan

PROJECT : POSHAK AAHAAR H2

OBJECTIVE:
Health and Medical
It’s a nutrition program, the program will help to prevent children from 0-6 yrs age group, by minimising underweight, stunting & malnutri-
tion which is very high in this tribal group.
In India 1 in 2 children are malnourished, 9 in 10 adolescent girls are anaemic, this result in around half million child deaths each year.
Maharashtra is the richest Indian state. However, prevalence of undernutrition is unacceptably high in Maharashtra, particularly among the
tribal children. In 2005, child malnutrition claimed as many as 718 lives in one single district namely Palghar. Even after a decade of
double-digit economic growth, in 2016, more than 600 children died due to under-nutrition in the same district. The state then announced
a slew of measures to address child malnutrition in tribal dominated areas. There has not been any study to check whether the nutritional
scenario has improved since then in Palghar. Hence, the present study was undertaken to assess the magnitude of under-nutrition among
the tribal children under six years of age, their dietary pattern and food practices in the Vikramgad block of Palghar District. (Study
conducted by U.S National Library of Medicine. NCBI National Centre For Biotechnology Information in 2017,
Study level estimates suggest that 59% of children were stunted. The overall prevalence of wasting and underweight was 20% and 53%
respectively. Further, the most common food eaten by the children was rice and dal (pulses). Only 13% of the children achieved a minimum
level of diet diversity.

Project Proposal : Vocational Education & Employment for Persons with Disabilities

requirement of nutrition.
