OBJECTIVE: Igatpuri Blossoms Tribal Schools Project.
Education.
To make Tribal Schools as Happy Schools in and around Igatpuri , District Nasik in Maharashtra .
During the year 2015 -2016 RCBN ventured to start a new Tribal school Project where ‘Angels feared to tread’
With the help of a special committee a tribal area nestled in the hill station of Igatpuri was identi ed.
We observed that the Zilla Parishad Schools were supported by the Government but the facilities provided were bare minimum insu cient.
The school structure was provided with no maintenance.
The classrooms were very shabby without proper desk & Chairs.
Though the Mid-day meal was provided it was not regular.
We surveyed the schools and decided to assist them:
Provide E Learning equipments, Provide Computer to the schools, Providing cupboards
and Desks
Provide Sports Equipment/Goods.
Provide water for toilets.
Provide ltered water for drinking.
Have medical camps.
Repair the existing class rooms and existing toilets.
We decided to start this project with a few schools and run the program for at least 5
years encompassing about 25 schools with about 4000 students .
Project Proposal :
RCBN has sofar covered 28 schools . To ensure that the project was sustainable , special Social Audit was conducted periodically with the help
of our partner club, the Deolali Club . During our Social Audits we found out that there were many missing links in the 28 schools serviced by
us and we decided to rst address these issues then increasing the number of schools. The following were the missing links:
The schools were not painted and were in bad condition.
The larger schools needed more E learning equipment.
Some schools needed additional computers.
Some schools needed water lters and water stations including storage water tanks.
The bathrooms were in a bad state and needed to be repaired.
Sports equipment were needed.
Due to frequent power failures, the schools needed double battery invertors.
Fans and exhaust fans were required.

Ashramshalas for poor adivasi students who attend the school during day time and also stay on the school premises at night. Madhavrao
Kane Ashramshala is one of such schools of the Arvind Smruti Organisation.
Over the years with public donations from various corners mainly Rotary clubs, the school has grown into a big Ashramshala having classes
up to 12th standard and at present 765 students are studying in the school, out of which 355 are girl students. All these students come from
various nearby adivasi villages. Also these students come from the poorest strata of the society often with the unique distinction of being the

rst from their family to be attending school.
At present there are about 300 girl students are staying and studying in this Ashramshala. However the facility to stay in proper dormitory is
only for 100 girls students and rest of the girl students have to sleep in various classes which is most vulnerable for girls students. With a view

PROJECT : MULUND ROTARY DISCON VLS (VOCATIONAL LEARNING SCHOLARSHIP) PROJECT E-23

OBJECTIVE:Rotary Club of Mulund started this Project in 2010-11, with a token Scholarship of Rs,4,000/- to an Orphan Girl student. The
project really took wings, in 2012-13, when we awarded Scholarships of Rs.8 Lac to 13 Students. It was all funded by the Club Members
themselves. Since then, the Project has grown by leaps and bounds every year. In last year 2019-20, we added 78 new students and total
amount of Scholarships awarded exceeded Rs.90 Lacs. The following table illustrates this very well.
Project Proposal :
Following are some of the salient features of the Project.
Significant Funding by Members: In the initial phase, the project was totally funded by
Club Members.
Club Members consistently contribute about Rs.10 Lac every year.
Open to All: Truly following Rotary Spirit, the application and selection process is open to all
and purely based on Merit.

first stage, students are shortlisted and invited for Personal Interviews with Parents. Final selection is done aGer the interviews.
Club Members and R/Ann Participation: Club Members and Spouses participate in large numbers, during both stages of selection, giving
benefit of wider and varied opinion for helping the right selection.
Flexible Selection Criteria: No fixed selection criteria is defined except that Student should be needy, deserving and studying in a Vocational
(Job Oriented Course). This enables us to help students in wide variety of Courses.
Girls form 50%: Purely on Merit, Girl students form about 50% of the selected students every year,
Innovative Selection Aids: Students have to submit copy of their Monthly Electricity Bill, along with their application. The bills have yearly

envisioned by the Foundation
Project Proposal
Sponsorship for Internships of 450 employable SHIs across three years, in batches of 20 in various Corporates, business organiza-
tions (typical pro les‐ restaurants, hotels, accounting, email, back o ce, tailoring, Spas, parlours, packing, logistics, housekeeping),

Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
The Training Internship programs will impact and bene t a total of about 450 people during the three years period (100+150+200).
The success factor will be certi ed skill development and placement for employment. This will enable the SHI di erently abled
people to live a life with dignity in a society which appreciates diversity and inclusion.
Ekalavya’s extensive experience of training and working with SHI in their parent business enterprises has enabled us to work for the
bene t of the community very e ectively. Including SHI in workforce adds value, advantages being manifold. They score over in
visual activity and are dexterous and thrive in standardized work environment .Other advantages being low attrition, higher
concentration, no distractions, visual learning ability and low nuisance factor. To optimize these advantages, they adopt a unique
three-pronged approach of programmed environment, community workspace and reverse inclusion. This has been acknowledged
by the society and attracts many SHI for this program as a sustained support mechanism.

What do you expect from the CSR ;
All are well –aware of the drastic loss of jobs due to the pandemic. For the past few months, we have been counselling and helping SHI
candidates in various ways. Most of them have work experience or have been trained in various skills. They are capable of joining the work-
force but might need upskilling or exposure to work culture of a particular organization. Board
examinations results have been declared and with no facility for higher studies, most of SSC and
HSC pass students in the community are looking for job opportunities. Internship programs will ll this gap. Moreover, our training will
enable the abled sta to converse and interact with SHIs so as to have an e ective work relationship. Thus the vision of providing sustainable
employment to Speech and Hearing Impaired workforce will be achieved.
We hope you appreciate the cause and o er full nancial support thus ensuring a secure life for the Community. Furthermore, a signi cant

PROJECT : SELF DEFENCE TRAINING FOR UNDERPRIVLEGED GIRLS E26

OBJECTIVE:MukkaMaar has been delivering its Flagship Physical Program for 2 years in partnership with MCGM schools and has
impacted the lives of more than 5000 girls and parents. The program has resulted in elevating self- esteem, con dence and
self-worth of girls, equipped them with self-defence techniques, helped them to stay healthy and t and understand their rights
better.
Project Proposal :Self-defense training for underprivileged girls
Due to the impact of COVID, schools in Mumbai are shut inde nitely. In this period of lockdown when children, family and commu-
nity are sharing more time and space together, child abuse has seen a massive uptick. There’s an urgent need for an online program
to be delivered to girls who are currently extremely unsafe and vulnerable. Hence, Rotary Club of Mumbai Rising Stars and
MukkaMaar are working towards digital transformation of the self-defence program.
The immediate target for this project is all current students of the MukkaMaar program. However, due to the digital presence, the
scope of reach of program, will be far greater and the impact will continue to multiply even after the we nish the execution and go
on the delivery phase.

Total CSR Funding : 54.9 Lakhs
Club contribution – 0.9 Lakhs
Expected Corporate CSR Investment – 54 Lakhs
Location :Reach to begin in Mumbai, then
Maharashtra and further to Hindi speaking belt
Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
Our plan is to undertake this project in collaboration with MukkaMaar, which is a registered public trust and has been successfully
running this program in a di erent form for the past 2 years. Due to the challenges of COVID-19 wherein schools are closed, we
would like to partner with MukkaMaar to use the recent technological penetration in Mumbai (and India) to reach a much wider
audience. Even when schools reopen and the Physical Program can take place, online presence will double down on existing
bene ts and have a greater impact. Below we have listed some salient features of the MukkaMaar physical program and its
challenges, which may beovercome with an online program. You may also see some pictures from events
conducted by MukkaMaar in the past where the students of this program participated and displayed their skills.
We plan to deliver the MukkaMaar program by means of a well-designed e-learning curriculum that can be implemented in this FY
and continue to multiply our impact even when we start our o ine school program by giving girls a head-start; and ensuring sticky
learning through our online platform.
Our plan for sustainability and scalability:

Integrating technology for e ective e-learning (gami ed) and creating omni channels to continually engage girls and enable
safety.

Replication of the 3-year program to be continued across geographies, as further POC independent of other variables.
Leveraging the gap in PT ecosystem (in terms of teachers, accountability and gender inclusivity) to further program delivery
through the government systems.
Undertaking more rigorous impact evaluation to build a strong case for policy level changes in public schools.
Making self-defence training compulsory through NCERT/SCERT.

PROJECT : FEES OF SCHOOL CHILDREN E27

OBJECTIVE:
Powai English School is run by a trust for the people who are economically backward.
The school is a Co-educational English Medium institution recognised by B.M.C. and Govt. of Maharashtra.
It is run and managed by Manav Dharma Mission Trust. The School was established by the Trust in 1978.
The Trust has two broad features:

1. MANAV NIRMAN (Human Development in good spirit)
2. LOK SEVA (Service to people)
Keeping these noble goals, the school aims at giving all round education i.e. academic
physical, moral, aesthetic and spiritual to our students irrespective of race, caste and religion.
The Trust runs Nursery, Jr. & Sr. K.G. Std
I to X only.Helping the students of Powai English School, Powai and Rishi Valmiki Ec
School, Goregaon(W) to continue their education.
Providing school fees for the children of those who have lost their jobs and businesses due to
COVID.Making sure that the parents will not pull their wards out of school this year.
Supporting 200 children of Powai English School @ Rs 30,000/- per child per annum
567 children of Rishi Valmiki Eco School @ Rs 12,000/- per child per annum.
No child should ever be deprived of education and no parent should ever bear the brunt of not having been able to provide quality
education to his or her child.
It was this vision of the founder that took shape in the form of Powai English High School way back in 1978. Starting with just 3
rooms, 134 children, 9 sta members, today they have a 5 storied building, 2500 students and a sta of 100 teachers.
The growth has been phenomenal both in terms of achievements and academics. Starting from the Pre Primary, the school renders
education till Std 10th and is a liated to the State Board (SSC).
Project Proposal
Some of the parents of the students of Powai English School run small businesses in the IIT market area or they belong to labour
class.Due to COVID, many of them have lost their business and their jobs.
They cannot a ord to pay the fees of their wards even though the school authorities have reduced the fees.
If they do not receive help, they may even pull the children out of the school.
The school is currently in a crisis due to the COVID19 pandemic.
The parents of 567 students are daily wagers and have got badly a ected during the lockdown.
It's di cult for parents to pay the subsidized fees of the second term of 2019-20 and the academic year 20-21.
About 60% of the funds at RVES come from fees and in such a scenario it is challenging to continue bearing the maintenance of the
school and pay essential 50% of monthly salaries of 31 teachers.
There is also a threat that the school may close down if they do not get some support.
Total Total estimated Cost of The Project: Rs. 202,59,000/-
Club contribution: Rs.1,00,000/-
VI. Expected Corporate CSR Investment: Rs. 201,59,000/-
Location : Powai & Gurgaon

PROJECT : SET UP OF INNOVATION LAB FOR NEEDY STUDENTS( ROBOTICS, IOT, AI & 3D PRINTING ) E30

OBJECTIVE:
Education imparted to the students in their formative years play a vital role in building a stronger nation. Understanding the
importance of education in nation building, developed nations have been investing signi cantly in school education over the years.
In India, however the picture looks quite bleak. Despite ardent e orts initiated by the Central and State Governments, the quality
of education in India remains in dismal state. A lot more needs to be done in the education sector to meet global standards, by
allotting more funds and addressing the problem of deteriorating quality of education in Indian schools. To address the dent in the
school education system, aided vernacular educational institutes have been playing a vital role in providing education at lower
cost, especially to the deprived ones.
The challenge:
What we believe is that the education and learning should ultimately provide better opportunities for growth and better life. This is
where we realize the gap with current Indian education system which is not yet evolved to address following challenges of near
future.
1. Future job opportunities are emerging more and more in science and technology space
2. Labour intensive job opportunities are shrinking day by day
3. Automation is replacing labour intensive repetitive tasks with machines and hence technology-based skilling can only provide
a better future for the students
4. Teachers capability: Teachers do not have any industry exposure, so they cannot address future needs of students, they are only
focused on academic and theoretical teaching
5. Most of the engineering pass out students do not have any hands-on skills. Their job readiness and quality expectations from
Industry is not matching.
6. Overcoming the fear of science and mathematics is the key challenge to be addressed by the schools but they are not equipped
with technology tools and right knowledge and skills
7. Day by day the gap is widening between what schools are teaching the students and what industry will need in future.
The solution:
The Applied Hands on education model which will also complements new education policy Professional team from with vast
experience at silicon valley & reputed institutes of India have curated a course which will teach students to have practical hands on
training to make them understand the principal of sciences and formulas easily – all seamlessly blending with the current curricu-
lums with industry’s requirements of how to implement the acquired knowledge to solve the practical problems.

This model is aimed at:
1. Complementing basic education with employability/entrepreneurship skills and holistic personality grooming of the students
who discontinue the education after 10th standard due to socio-economic constraints
2. Creating opportunities for the talented students to unleash their potential in various elds. They have established rst such
Applied Innovation Centre at DS High School Sion ( also partially funded by Rotary) from last two years with a mission to provide
every student with a strong foundation through STEM and integrated science based Applied education. This can provide them
future job or entrepreneurial opportunity as a career. We have successfully tried to cultivate in them technological and professional
skills before they complete their 10th standard.
DS High School ‘Centre for Innovation For Applied Learning’ was developed in partnership with Rotary

PROJECT : SOLAR DRYER FOR FISH DRYING EN2

OBJECTIVE: To support weaker section by creating employment and we intend taking
assistance of Central Institute of Fishery Technology.
To provide Solar Fish Dryer to the Fishing Community at Versova or at Madh Village. The
activity would involve taking support from experts in the eld and the District team would
support in co-ordination.
It is proposed that the Fish Dryer is handed over to the Fishermen’s co-operative for e cient
and equitable use by all the Fishermen. The Solar Dryer would not only mitigate the problem
associated with drying of sh in the open but also enhance the income of the sherman due
to faster drying as well as hygienic product.
Mumbai records the highest sh catch in Maharashtra almost 40% of all sh catch in the state.
There are many Koliwadas in Mumbai and Kolis are one of the original inhabitants of Mumbai.
Maharashtra ranks 10th in the country despite a long coastline with around 2 lakh tonne of

sh catch. Versova village is a big contributor to the city’s total catch. Fish drying happens in
open. Various types of solar dryers are possible to be installed like Rack Dryer, PVC Tent Dryer,
Convection type dryer, tunnel dryer, Hybrid dryers using electricity or LPG as the fuel. It is
envisaged to install a Hybrid LPG based dryer of 250 kg per day capacity.

Project Proposal : Solar Dryer Hybrid Unit for Fish Drying
Total cost of setting up is expected to be around Rs. 25,00,000 that includes cost of equip-
ment and installation (at this stage this is pure estimate) for 250 kg per day capacity
Target completion within FY 2020-21
Budgeted Cost of set up: Rs. 25,00,000
Participating Clubs’ Contribution (10%): Rs. 2,50,000
Total CSR Funding (90%): Rs. 22,50,000

Location : : Versova Village or Madh Island
Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
IMPACT: Normally, it takes 5-7 days for drying of shes thereby increasing the space require-
ment on the beaches as well as lower output. Besides, drying period is 5-7 hours per day and
that too for 8 months in a year. Open drying has its other drawbacks like foul smell in the air,
dust/sand accumulation on the sh, ies and insect infestation, consumption
by stray dogs/cats. Solar Fish Dryer particularly a hybrid one would work round the year and
be more e cient thereby increase the productivity substantially
BENEFIT: With higher and faster turnaround, shermen would bene t immensely. Consumers
of Dried Fish would get to consume more hygienic product. Residents within 3 km radius will
not have to deal with foul smell emanating from drying sh
SUSTAINABILITY: Once installed, the co-operative would take care of the maintenance and
upkeep. The equipment has a long life

PROJECT : TO PROTECT AND REJUVENATE AND WATER HARVESTING OF THE BHUJAVALE TALAO. EN3

OBJECTIVE:
Bhujavale Talao is one of the surviving urban lake located in Malad West area near the Link
road. It is a part of disappearing network of natural water bodies that facilitate safe drainage
of rainwater, & percolation of water.
The preliminary site study of Bhujavale talao reveals that it is a neglected lake and is highly
polluted due to Visarjan activites during Ganesh Festival, damaged surrounding area,
concrete blocking, dumping of garbage and opening of some drainage and sewerage lines
into the lake has virtually making it inaccessible.
The size of the area is 5057 sqmts or 54, 434 sq. ft. the size of the lake is 2713 sq .mtr or 29,207
sq. ft.The main aim is to protect and develop the lake for the use of the community and
revive this urban water body and improve the enviornment around it which will eventually
bring the lake back into the life making the area pollution free.
R C of Mumbai Versova is taking up the project for implementing water Harvesting system
which can utilize open space to percolate water into the lake. The lake will be cleaned and
developed so that the storage capacity of the lake will also be enhanced and the drainage in
the area be regularized to reduce pollution in the area.
It is also proposed to permit Ganesh visarjan in the lake by constructing small pond within
the lake to facilitate visarjan. The area will be made pollution & garbage free by creating a
Green zone, community space and recreation area with the help of the local community to
take care of the lake and its surrounding area on long term basis.
Project Proposal : : Protection and revival of the Bhujavale talao (Lake), rain water
harvesting, improve the lively hood of the surrounding residence, reduce pollution
bene ting over 1,00,000 people living in the area
Total estimated Cost of TheProject. : Rs. 1,00,00,000/-

PROJECT : ROTARY URBAN FOREST(RUF)- EXPECTED PARTNERSHIP WITH CORPORATE EN4

OBJECTIVE:
Long term sustainable Project of over 100 Urban Forests branded Rotary Urban Forests to be
implemented across the city of Mumbai and on banks of Mithi River. Urban Forests are Dense
Forest (20x density) that can be created in small land areas in various pockets thereby adding
much needed green cover to the city of Mumbai. With fast growth rates (almost 10x) the
forest eco system is created much faster. Each Urban Forest, would have a direct bene t
within 2 km radius. The forests would create a natural habitat for birds, who would in turn,
proliferate the seeds by dispersing seeds around leading to further growth of trees naturally,
Each Urban Forest with a covered area of average 2000 sq ft would have 1000-1200 trees
being planted, thus with 100 RUFs, over 100000 trees would be planted.

The Environment and Water Conservation Avenue Team will act as a Nodal agency and Rotary This is a two year old
Clubs in RI District 3141 will participate in this project by arranging nancing to the extent of Urban Forest at Uttan Bhayandar
20% and balance would be allocated from the CSR funding. The activity would involve taking
support from experts in the eld and the District team would support in co-ordination. The
plantation would be done by Akira Miyawaki method
Mumbai has an extremely skewed ratio of trees per capita at 0.20 trees per citizen, which too
is highly concentrated in few pockets. As per IISc, the per capita tree should be 7:1. Even for
doubling from here, Mumbai need to plant at least 40 lakh trees.

Rotary Clubs are located across Mumbai and with the RUF within their geography, it will
relatively easy for them to monitor the project on an ongoing basis and report back progress
regularly to the participating company and thus will be Ideal partners for your CSR Endeavor-
sUnder Rotary Club of Mumbai Versova, one such project was executed in Jan-Feb 2020 at
SNDT University Campus. Besides, Rtn. Rajesh Choudhary has been personally involved in
execution of over 20 such Urban Forests in Mumbai and Nashik

Project Proposal : Rotary Urban Forest- Total 100

Total cost of setting up each RUF with Drip Irrigation System, Mulching, Fencing is approx. 6 Months old at Borivali
2,50,000/- (for an average 2000 sq ft plot)
Target completion within FY 2020-21
Cost of 100 RUFs: Rs. 2,50,00,000
Participating Clubs’ Contribution (20%): Rs. 50,00,000
Total CSR Funding (80%): Rs. 2,00,00,000
This funding can be done by one or more corporates. Basis the funding, the required no,
of RUFs would be assigned. For eg if Rs. 20,00,000 committed, then 10 RUFs would be
assigned and as many clubs would be connected. Thus, it is not important for one
company to commit entire Rs 2.00 Crore for the project.

Location : Across Mumbai & on the banks of Mithi River whereever possible 9 Months old at Jogeshwari

Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
Impact & Bene ting covering how many people: The trees so planted need one rain besides the drip irrigation system to sustain.
Maintenance & Overseeing is required for not more than 1 year.Largely, the project involves planting of native trees with 10x growth
rate and 20x density. So in small open spaces in the city, dense forests would be created at much faster rate than normal forest would
grow. This will bene t the entire current and future population of Mumbai.
Long Term Sustainability: The trees so planted need one rain besides the drip irrigation system to sustain. Maintenance & Overseeing is
required for not more than 1 year.
Any Other Details: With less than 40 lakh trees in Mumbai the per capita ratio is totally skewed at 0.20:1 whereas the need is at least 5:1
to keep the community in a healthy state. With less open spaces, unless the trees are planted using Miyawaki method, the no. of trees
that can be planted would be far less. Besides, with time running out, there is a need to use the technique whereby the growth of trees
is much faster than conventional. The answer is Rotary Urban Forest Project, where 100 such forests are proposed to be initiated with
over 1.20 lakh trees.

PROJECT : RECHARGE LIFE :INTEGRATED WATER MANAGEMENT EN5

Availability of water for domestic and agriculture purposes is a critical problem in Maharashtra. Raigad is one such district, where a number
of villages and hamlets inhabited by adivasis (tribals) face acute water shortage leading to very low agricultural productivi- ty, domestic
water scarcity and many related health and socio-economic problems. Rotary Club of Deonar proposes an extensive water management
program with 5 of our Rotary Community Corps (RCC) at Shelu, Humgaon, Borgaon, Kalamb and Bhivpuri villages in Raigad district. Rotary
Community Corps are teams of men and women who work in partnership with the Rotary Club to improve their communities.
Objectives:
1. To collect & conserve excess rainwater through Check Dams into the specially built reservoirs for future agriculture & domestic use
2. To facilitate recharge of under- ground borewells & dug wells
3. To provide pure & safe drinking water to schools and communities
4. To provide clean & potable water to all households through pipelines
5. To provide community water stations (kiosks) & toilet blocks for maintaining cleanliness

& hygiene

Project proposal:
1. In Phase 1, construct a total of 12 Check Dams, at strategic locations, to stop & collect the excess rainwater draining away through
the rivers. The water will be stored in specially built reservoirs for further distribution to farmlands. Also organize services of water special-
ists to recharge ground water reserves, thus increasing the availability of water for agricultural purposes, through-out the year.
2. The water received from the natural sources is normally with lot of sedimentation and organic impurities, leading to spread of
water-borne diseases and ill-health of children. In Phase II, we plan to provide 14 small
and big capacity ltration plants for the needy schools in the 38 villages, thus ensuring
that all the children in the area have access to safe drinking water.
3. While there is piped water distribution in some villages, the impurities in source water leads to muddy & unsafe water reaching
households. In Phase III, we plan to build 2 large water treatment plants at the water source and provide clean, treated water through the
pipelines to all the households.
4. In Phase IV, we plan to build community water kiosks and toilet blocks to instill cleanliness and hygiene practices throughout the
area. The kiosks will specially help those villages that do not have piped water from water board. We plan about 10 such community water
kiosks & toilet blocks for bene t of 10 villages
5. Each of the above phases will be supported by awareness and promotional drives on:
i) Conservation and e cient use of available water
ii) Reuse-recycle-restore water resources
iii) Cleanliness & sanitation for better health of the community

Total CSR Funding:
Project cost is Rs. 4.38 crores over a period of 3 years including construction, facility development, infrastructure development, coordina-
tion with local & state o cials, training of operators and SHGs for e cient running of the facilities and regular maintenance. The phase-wise
cost break-up (in Indian Rupees) is as follows.

Rotary Club of Deonar funding - Rs.3 lakhs
Phase I – Building of 12 Check Dams, reservoirs and 1,60,00,000 technical services of recharge specialists
Phase II- Filtration units at 14 schools 18,20,000
Phase III- Community piped ltered water – 2 large plants 1,60,00,000
Phase IV Community water kiosks & toilet blocks – 10 nos.1,00,00,000
Total I – IV Phases 4,38,00,000

Location :38 villages in Raigad district, Maharashtra

Impact Bene t and Long-Term Sustainability

Once completed, farming community will bene t in a great way as they can grow two or more crops per year
Village community and school children will have access to pure drinking water throughout the year
Villagers will have better water & sanitation facilities, leading to netter health and hygiene

Rotary Deonar is working in these villages for 30 years and have given many facilities such as bore-wells, toilet blocks, school furniture,
ltration units, etc., which are still running in good condition. We have our own Rotary Community Corps (RCCs) in these villages.

Further, once an installation is completed, we will ensure that the gram panchayat takes the ownership of the activity. A tri-party MoU for a
period of 3-5 years will be signed between Rotary Deonar, CSR partner & gram panchayat.
We will form and train local self-help groups for regular operations & maintenance.

PROJECT : CONSTRUCTION OF CHECK DAMS IN VIKRAM GARH EN7

OBJECTIVE:Construction of Checkdams in Vikaram Gadh Taluka of Thane District
The selected Villages are situated in Vikramgad Taluka of Palghar District at a Distance of @ 80 Kms from Ghodbunder Junction i.e. from
Mumbai-Ahmadabad National highway No.8 and is @ 115 kms from Mumbai. These villages fall in semi- tribal and hilly region with annual
rainfall of more than 2500 mm where surface run o water is at present underutilized because of lack of irrigation projects and water conser-
vation work. During the months from March to May the villagers face acute shortage of drinking water.
The villagers with the help of Local self-Government construct Vanarai Bandaras across the non-perennial stream passing through the elds.
Project Proposal :
Vanarai Bandharas are small temporary Dams built by lling empty cement / Polythene Bags with Sand and arranging them in form of wall
1.00 meter High. Because of the short life (1 Year) of Vanrai Bandharas, the villagers are compelled to perform this task every year at the end of
Monsoon. This Project aims to construct Permanent Check Dams.
The Tangible bene ts of Constructing Permanent check dams are:
It raises the ground water table of the area surrounding the check dam (Radius of 0.50 Km.) which increases the yield of the bore wells and
open wells falling in this zone (@ 4 number per Dam). This enables the villagers to get drinking water for them & also for the live-stock in the
summer.
The local farmers have learnt to use water from temporary check dams for cultivation of the land in the o season i.e. months of October to
March. Traditionally they grow only one crop a year usually Paddy (Rice) in this area. With the permanent Check Dams, farmers will get more
water and can cultivate the elds for a second crop usually cash crops like vegetables, owers, barley etc. This will increase the family income
substantially, thus increasing the standard of living (increase of Rs. 10,000/- per acre per year). Each check dam can hold water to the extent of
approximately 2.5 million liters and a minimum area of @ 30 acres can be irrigated. The intangible bene ts are outlined below:
The scarcity of work and water compels the local population to migrate each summer in search of work to the cities. If water and work is
provided by this project, such migration could be avoided.
Children are deprived of continuous education due to migration. Lack of water also causes health & hygiene problems among them.
Total CSR Funding: INR 29,37,000
Location : The selected Villages are situated in Vikramgad Taluka of Palghar District at a Distance of @ 80 Kms from Ghodbunder Junction i.e.

PROJECT : CHECK DAMS - WADA, MURBAD EN8

OBJECTIVE:With the construction of check dams, it not only helps the villagers with availabili-
ty of water but also helps them cultivate a 2nd crop during the year resulting higher income.
Due to check dams underground water table raises which helps a yield of water to nearby
dug well or tube wells. Forestation increases thus providing a environment friendly surround-
ings in nearby vicinity.
Project Proposal : Construction of 5 Check Dams in Murbad Taluka
Project cost - Rs 20 Lakh
CSR Funds - Rs 10 Lakh
Location : Murbad Taluka, Maharashtra
Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
Impact and bene ts
1. With the availability of Water, the farmer quickly develops additional acres of land
and takes them under cultivation for the winter crop. Thus, where only 2% of the land was
ploughed, now 98% of the land comes under irrigated cultivation.
2. The wells are situated in the middle of the farm land and have pumps tted on them.
As the level of water is now high, they can now operate the pumps 24 hours of the day if need
be.
3. Environment is restored and ecology rejuvenated. As the site matures underground
rivers start owing which in turn give rise to springs along the course of the down- ow,
giving rise to perennial streams and rivulets downhill.
4. Migrant labor returns. Reverse exodus from urban areas takes place. The youth and
able bodied come back to their homes to lead a life of dignity.
5. Women no longer need to go through the drudgery of carrying pitchers full of water
over long distances for household use which would take a tremendous toll of their health and
physical wellbeing.
6. Check dams have all the advantages of large dams with none of the disadvantages
Long Term Viability:
The Check Dam are largely maintenance free. Desilting will be done by villagers.

Time frame - 3 Months
Expectation from CSR - Rs 10 Lakhs

Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability
IMPACT
Direct positive measurable impact on Rural Economic Development
Each Check Dam helps 18-20 marginal tribal farmers holding 1 acre each earn an additional sum of
Rs.20000/ per acre. Thus in two years these 20 farmers together earn an additional Rs.8Lac & 1100 farmers earn about 440 Lac.
Prevents youth from migrating to nearby urban areas in search of daily wages.
Corporates can get a huge opportunity & exposure to promote economic development & water conservation in rural communities which
consists of tribal farmers having an average land holding of just 1-1.25 acre per family. No recurring expense. Results can be quanti ed
BENEFITS
Mumbai gets its vegetables from villages of Palghar , Thane & Raigad district situated within 100-150 km distance. Even during the recent
Lockdown, supply to vegetables was unhindered, thanks to the farming community of these 3 districts.

PROJECT : CONSTRUCTION OF BOREWELLS & WATER SUPPLY TO 18 SCHOOLS IN THANE & PALGHAR EN10

OBJECTIVE:Project Construction of Borewells & water supply system for 18 schools in Thane & Palghar District.Project Construction of
Borewells & water supply system for 18 schools in Thane & Palghar District.

Project Proposal :- Construction of borewells and laying pipelines from borewell till school premises in 3 schools namely, Shenway
Vibhag High School and Junior College, Shri Ram Vidyalaya, Sarlambe and restoration of water to Ashram Shala School and to hostel, one for
the boys and one for the girls at Talwada village, Vikramgad, Palghar District and 15 other schools near Wada in Palghar district and provid-
ing hand wash stations and clean drinking water in above 18 schools.

PROJECT : BUILDING OF BIO TOILETS FOR ADIVASIS IN WADA S2

OBJECTIVE: TIGER TOILET - A revolutionary solution for universal sanitation
Need
- A viable option over twin pit latrine or septic tank.
- A ush and forget toilet
- A ordable
- Easy to maintain
- Free of smell
- Better than even the bio-digester toilet technology by DRDO for army (slow natural bio-
degradation of human waste; biodegradation is even more di cult in cold and icy terrains).
- Meets aspirational demand Solution

Project Proposal : Tiger Toilet
- Suitable for rural and urban settings Principle
- Use of local species of earthworms (eisenia fetida or tiger worms)
- Sequential ltration in digester involving layers of di erent materials Features
- 99% of faecal species are removed by worms
- The small fraction that remain gradually lters through layers in the soil
- Such ltered material through the soil is signi cantly of low concentration
diminishing any likelihood of contamination of the waterways.
- The toilet uses pour ushing, uses 1-2 Liter of water after use. (Reasonable even in water
stressed areas)
- Waste is digested by worms and converted into castings, gaseous (escapes into the air) and
soluble (which gets washed into pathogen free e uent)
- No smell anywhere near the toilet
- The layers in the system (digester) create a vibrant, sustained eco-system in which the
worms continuously thrive like in a traditional vermicomposting ecosystem.
- In the digester, the buildup of ecosystem is very slow, which at present necessitates a
clean-up once in 5 years. Improvement methods are under way to extend this clean up once
in ten years
Total CSR Funding (90%): Rs. 1,00,000( each toilet costs 25,000)

Location : Wada and Palghar District

Impact Bene t and Long Term sustainability

IMPACT: A ordability:
- The digester units from the laboratory to the usage point within India is below INR 25,000/-
each unit
- The superstructure is built using the locally available material and manpower
- Design optimization for superstructure is on a continuous basis to have a most cost-
e ective solution with both prefabricated and in-situ build options.
- The required footprint for one Digester pit is 3’ X 3’ X 4.5’depth and the superstructure
footprint is 4’ X 4.5’ X 7’ side by side or connected by a pipe- generally, less than 5 ft long.
Time Frame : 6-9 months

PROJECT : BUILDING TOILETS, BATH BLOCKS & WATER SUPPLY FOR ADIVASI VILLAGERS S3

OBJECTIVE: To improve the health, hygiene and sanitation conditions of tribal community of
these two villages, who live under below poverty line it is absolutely necessary to provide them
permanent structure of toilet and bathing block attached to each individual household and also
provide water at their doorsteps. In alignment with the Swachh Bharat Mission, we will be provid-
ing toilet & bath blocks to all the villagers of Dongar Pada & Rahat Pada to ensure day-to-day
hygiene of all the villagers & improve the overall wellbeing of the
community.

Project Proposal :
- Construction of toilets & bath blocks & laying water pipes from the water source that is
well to the doorsteps of each house in Dongar pada and Rahat pada.
- There are 52 houses in Dongar pada and 28 huts in Rayak pada. Between 28 huts of
Rayak Pada, only three toilets are there which are in very bad shape. One of the three toilet is
non-functional and other two are being used by the few villagers who stay nearby.
Rest of the villagers defecate in the open.
- In Dongar pada there are 52 houses now. About 25 villagers have constructed toilets
which have no water facility and there are no ush water tanks or storage tanks in their house.
Even toilets are in bad shape. Remaining residents of about 27 houses defecate in open.
- For water, the water source is half a kilometer way with no proper access road for the
women folk to access. The pipelines are required to be laid from the water well to water storage
tanks and then from the tanks to each house
- The project will ensure that the residents of the two villages will be able to access the
basic water necessity easily & also have proper hygiene

Previous Project in the Village :
We have previously constructed 46 toilets & bath blocks with overhead tanks, underground
sceptic tanks with all plumbing and sanitary ttings like Orissa pans, basins, pvc water pipes,
glazed tiles, Bib Cocks, electrical wiring and ttings for each individual house in the adjacent
village, Diwanmal Pada village. This project was undertaken under the matching global grant,
number: GG1532965 in the year 2015. The project was successfully completed and the sustainabil-
ity of that project is 100 percent since villagers who are tribals have undertaken to maintain these
structures in their house. Last year we have laid pipelines from water source to the water storage
tank & laid pipelines to each of the 46 houses and brought water to the doorstep of homes of
each villager in Diwanmal village. Our club has provided sintex tank with capacity of 20000 litres,
motor pumps, laid pipelines from well to water tanks and from tanks to the said 46 houses. The
cost was Rs. 9,25,000/-(nine lakhs twenty ve thousand only.) This project was successfully carried
out. Looking at Diwanmal village being upgraded by our club now residents of two nearby
villages Rayak pada and Dongar pada have requested us to take up their villages. Hence, we want
to undertake this project with CSR fund.

Total CSR Funding 80,00,000

Location : Dongar pada and Rahat pada, Bhiwandi

Long Term Sustainability:
This project will create great impact in the said two villages of Dongar pada and Rahat pada,
which are adjacent to Diwanmal village & improve their day-to-day life with greater hygiene and
enough water supply on regular basis. Since these are permanent structures and are essential to
be used by the villagers daily, they will take up the responsibility of maintaining toilets and bath
blocks and will take care of the pipelines of water reaching their homes. There will be 100 percent
sustainability of the project.

Time frame Within 1 Year
Expectation from CSR /Basic Plan
Rotary Club of Bombay Downtown Charitable Trust will fully execute the project and provide all the
details and documents for the satisfaction of the CSR Funding Company. We will open a separate bank
