Lesson 8.1 Drawing Pictures that
Come into Our Mind
There is a famous saying in English that says, “a picture is worth
a thousand words.” It means it is often easier to show something
in a picture than to describe it with words. We need thousands of
words to express a feeling, but we can express it in the best way
in a single picture. We can show the subject matter of any story
of various emotions in our minds through drawings. We can also
express our thoughts, feelings, and experience through pictures.
For example, look at the following pictures.
EXERCISE
(1) Draw pictures of different activities that take place in
your locality.
(2) Draw a picture to show how we can help others.

Lesson 8.2 Sketching Pictures of
Bird, Plant, and Animal
Sketching means making a quick, rough drawing of something.
Sketching and drawing pictures of birds, plants, and animals around
us is an enjoyable activity. It allows us to better understand the
world. We get to learn about the objects that we see every day
from the pictures. We need to observe any picture carefully before
sketching or drawing it.
EXERCISE
(1) Observe birds, plants, and animals in your locality and
sketch them.

Lesson 8.4 Mixing Colours
There are several methods of preparing new colour. We have to find
out new colours ourselves by mixing two or more colours available
with us. By combining various colours, we can produce different
colours.
Primary Colours: Yellow Blue Red
Secondary Colours: Orange Green Violet
Primary colours are basic colours that we can mix together to
produce other colours. They are usually considered to be red,
yellow, and blue. Secondary colour is a colour formed by mixing
two primary colours.
Yellow + Red = Orange YGB
Blue + Yellow = Green
Red + Blue = Violet O km

EXERCISE
Draw any six squares in your copy and colour it with primary

Lesson 8.5 Vegetable Printing
The method of copying the same impression from the surface of
any coloured object onto another surface is called printing. We can
print in various ways. We can get an impression of an object by
applying colour on its surface and pressing it on a sheet of paper.
Take a potato, or a radish first. Cut it into a circular shape then. Next, carve
any pattern or design of your choice on the flat surface. After that, cut out
the outer part of the design carefully. Now, your design is ready. Apply colour
over the design on the surface or dip the surface in colour and press it onto
the plain paper to get the print. Once you make the design, you can use it
to get other prints. Thus, you can make several patterns form one design.
EXERCISE
Prepare different prints by making designs as given in the
lesson using a potato, radish, gourd, etc. Make a border
around the design.
