Active boys have earned
letters in various sports.
The Packer 1965-66 "O" C lub is sponsored by Coach Gordon Loucks. "This
year the club is small in number, but the boys are enthus iastic and eager to
contribute new ideas," stat ed Coach Loucks. The c lub is working to promote
an annua l assembly at which boys who have earned l etters will receive re-
cogn ition for participating in sports during the year . At this time an out-
standing athlete will be selected from each sport. and honored for his ex-
ceptional performance.
This year's officers are: Pres ident Jim Barrington, Vice-President
Mitch Emery, and Secretary-Treasurer Ron McClellan.

Returning runners add hope
for next year's season.
The South High Cross Country tea m experienced an un-
successful season. It was Central over South, 10-28; Boys-
town, 10-28; Burke Bever idge, 17-22; Benson, 10 - 28; a nd
Abe Lincoln, 10-28. In the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational,
Doane Invitational, and the Metropolitan Association Meet,
South took eighth place. South also participated in the Metro
Invitational Meet at Prep and the Dis trict Meet in which they
placed ninth.
Coach Lawrence stated that the boys were inexperienced
but will return next year to add hope for a better season.

seven .

The South High Packer Gymnastics team experienced a season of e ight wins and
four losses. The team placed fourth in the Con ference meet, second in the District,
and e leventh in State . Gymnastics is in its second year at South and i s very much im -
proved over last years team. Ten returning lettermen will add strength to next years
season.

The Varsity Cheerleaders, sponsored by
Mrs. Sharon Brown, are leaders at South High.
They are active members in Pep Club a nd
spread spirit throughout the school. Their
goals are t o boost the morale of the teams,
keep the students behind the athl etes, and in-
still enthus iasm in the crowd.
The c heerleaders put in many hours of
hard work. They practice during the summer
a nd continue to rehearse throughout the year.
During the winter months, four to five nig hts
a week are spent cheering.
They have c hanged their method of cheer-
ing to block-style, which consists of quick,
precise, dynamic movements. The g ir ls at-
tended a cheerleading clinic held at Nebraska
Wesleyan University in Lincoln last fall. Here
they observed the new methods a nd were per -
mitte d to demonstrate a cheer of the ir own .
