peerless leadership which has brought our scnools to their pre,,,ent

state of usefulness and se1v1ce co the peop,e of our city. This

same leadership has oeen a JJuwer i·n tne solution of educational
problems nationwide in scope.

Mr. Beveridge was one of the few who was able to find ways
to translate the best in our euucat1011a1 theory into pratice.

"A li1ttle child shall 1ead them" has become the fo unda1,ion on
which our system is bm,t.

~espect for personality has be.;ome a reality in pupil-teach-

er relation.

Interest and not fear has become the basic motive in our
teaching procedure.

The entire staff was constant y inspired by the leadership of
this great personality. It wouid be fol1y to attempt to make a
list of the personal and professional virtues of our beloved per·
sonal friend and superior officer.

But we who have been so highly favored these many years
have no right to complain. Let us say with Longfellow:

"The're is no f :r eside, howsoe'erdefended,
But has one vacant chair."
"We will be patient, and assuage the feeling
