CLASS IV&VI – Government museum - 07.02.2020
What better way to learn about our past, than a visit to the
museum? Basically, when one visits a museum they can take
a deeper look at historical items, dig deep into the art, tools,
weapons, dresses, etc. on display and also explain what
they mean. The students of Class VI visited the government
museum on 8th February 2020. The trip began with lot of
enthusiasm and vigour. The museum complex consisted
of six buildings. The objects displayed in the museum
covered a variety of artifacts and objects covering diverse
fields including archeology, numismatics, zoology, natural
history, sculptures, palm-leaf manuscripts, and paintings.
Located close to the main museum entrance gates on
Pantheon Road, the museum theatre was a rare specimen
of the Italianate style of architecture, inspired by Classical
architecture. The museum is also a designated “Manuscript

Lake Tour – 14.11.2019
On Children’s day the budding environmentalists from our school went on a study tour around lakes. They
were guided by Ms. Melina and Ms. Presta of Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI). It is an environmental
conservation group, which focuses on wildlife conservation and habitat restoration, with bases in many cities. As
the organization is known for its work in cleaning and scientific restoration of lakes in India, the students were
taken on a lake tour to broaden their knowledge. They were taken to water bodies that were rejuvenated and
restored by EFI.
Kattabomman pond, Nattar pond, Amman pond were some of the places they visited. The day was an eye-opener
for the youngsters as they realized how ponds have shrunk and the water table struggle to maintain a decent level
owing to encroachment, dumping of garbage and non-biodegradable waste, release of sewage water, growing of
invasive weeds and throwing construction debris. Mr. Arun Krishnamurthy, the founder of EFI, patiently explained
how the water bodies were restored and the boundaries strengthened by building bunds and fences. The students
were even able to have a look at a pit which was constructed to bring back turtles by making it a safe haven for
them. Their final stop was the Pallikaranai Marsh where they could watch some migratory birds. They returned
with a heavy heart when they were informed that the marsh was initially a big lake.
Students learnt a big lesson that day and pledged to protect their environment and spread awareness to guard
what the nature has gifted us so selflessly.

Class VII-IX – Printing Press - The Hindu - 10.02.2020
The world of print media has always mystified children. To fulfill this curiosity of print media among the students,
the school arranged an Educational Trip for classes 7 to 9 to the Printing Press of Hindu at Maraimalai nagar on
10.02.2020. Understanding makes a thing more attractive. Seeing the various processes involved in the printing
of a mundane looking newspaper generated a lot of interest among the students. The students were quite
fascinated beholding and assimilating the various steps involved in News Paper printing.
The atmosphere was very noisy as the students entered into the premises, since the machines were working.
The latest edition of the supplement “Young World” was being printed. Students were divided into two groups.
Each group was then guided by two supervisors of the press. The supervisors explained each stage of printing
answering to the questions posted to them by the young ones. They explained the three types of printing
and described offset printing in detail. The students were shown a plate with printed matter which made the
understanding better. They next witnessed how actually the paper is passed from one machine to another, how
various colours were integrated and the papers getting ready within no time.
The groups saw rolls of raw paper and could feel them, they watched them get printed, folded, cut, trimmed,
deposited on trays, picked up by the clamps, bundled together and packed. They were explained that within an
hour thousands will be ready. In one corner of the bay area the students could see the papers being put into
covers manually.
Thus, the whole process had a lot of learning take away for the students. A splendid opportunity to take a tour
around the working printing press and see the newspaper under printing was one worth cherishing. Truly quite
a fruitful outing for the students! Knowing something is different but seeing is believing.

Interact Club - Rotary Club - 6.8.2019
Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club that gives young people, who want to connect with others in their
community or school, an opportunity to participate in fun and meaningful service projects while developing lead-
ership skills and meeting new friends. They bring together young people of ages 12-18. The basic principle of the
Rotary Interact is to help others. Their motto is “service above self”. Through service activities, the youngsters
learn the importance of developing leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrating helpfulness and respect
for others, and advancing international understanding and goodwill. While Interact clubs receive guidance from
individual Rotary clubs, they govern and support themselves.
Three students represented our school at a meeting held at Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School, Greams
Road, on August 6th . They were happy that the session was very interactive and their views were also heard. After
a brief introduction to all new entrants, a skeleton sketch of the club was given and their purpose explained. The
students were guided as to what activities can be done at school, how they can be performed to provide maximum
results, and what designates the smooth running of any project and what enables a team to work efficiently. Per-
sonal integrity was also given importance.
The students came back with great enthusiasm and had shared all the information with fellow students and
teachers. The club has now been formed with the hope of full cooperation from all concerned, and ideas for
various local community projects.

Constitution Day
The activities planned since November starting from the “Celebration of Constitution Day” continued
through the month of January, as San Academy Kamakoti Nagar conducted a series of Quiz, Debate and Essay
competitions. Fundamental rights are essential for intellectual, moral and spiritual development of individuals.
Every citizen should be aware of it. To test the awareness among the students, a quiz was conducted for
class 6 students. Though human rights is a dynamic concept, and one which is therefore constantly evolving,
international law defines the content and scope of human rights. Now India is a secular nation. One of the
common debates in the society has been - Reservation of Seats. To give an opportunity to the students of
class 7 to pen in their views on: ‘Reservation of seat’, ‘Secularism’, and ‘Life of Dalits in Pre-Independence
and Post-Independence Era’ an essay competition was held. It was a real test of knowledge the students
had, regarding the topics. Students are exposed to equality at a tender age. They have an open view on the
happenings around them, with the media coverage on any number of topics. “Does reserved constituency
lead to discrimination?” Students of Classes 8 and 9 debated on this topic. It was a stunning performance by
the students as they had done elaborate research on the topic, and came up with real-time data. The whole
exercise this month had been a successful venture as students were exposed to some of the current affairs
of the country.
Value Education Contest
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness
(ISKCON) organises the biggest value education contest based
on Gita. Observing the fast degrading culture and values in
children, we had two IIT students Mr. Brijesh and Mr. Giridharan,
who enlightened the students in a very interactive, interesting
and innovative way to implement values from age old, proven,
time tested values from Bhagavad Gita. To educate the children
on the necessity of inculcating values in their inner self they
had brought in several examples from their everyday life. They
then talked about the contest, informing the students that
they will be provided with a kit which contains a guide book,
reading material and also a recent edition of Bhagavad Gita.
The students will be tested on their observed knowledge.

Glimpse of
Many children with learning and attention issues may have times when they feel like they’re “not
good at anything.” Their challenges can lower their self-esteem. But extracurricular activities are a great way
for kids to focus on their strengths and passions without pressure of tests or other classroom demands. These
activities can build up a child’s confidence. They help children improve their social skills, develop interest and
inspire them to try new things.
An extracurricular activity is a good way for kids to be social in a more relaxed environment. And they get to
meet kids with the same interests. Extracurricular activities help kids have positive social interactions. Out-
of-school activities help kids focus on their interests instead of their challenges.
At San Academy, we focus on the holistic development of children and tap their inherent talents. We give
lot of opportunities to students to participate in Intra School Competitions and we are proud to say that San
stars have always come with flying colours and have made all of us proud.

3rd ANNUAL SPORTS MEET-
KG - RHYMES 27 JULY 2019
‘It’s not how big you are.
It’s how big you play.”
-John Wooden (American Basketball player)
Sports, whether team - based or individual is great for children
as they provide not just physical activity, but also help build
children’s self-esteem, confidence, social skills and motivate them
to excel in life. Sports day brings new energy in the hearts and
minds of the children. In SAN , we encourage children to participate
in a wide range of sports events, cheer on their teammates and
learn valuable lessons of sportsmanship. San Academy, Kamakoti
Nagar commemorated it’s 3rd Annual Sports Meet on July 27th,
2019 at YMCA grounds, Nandanam, Chennai with great zeal and
excitement. The day unfolded with bright sunshine, a gentle breeze
and an enthusiastic buzz in the air.
The renowned Guiness World Record Holder for Mass Yoga, Dr.
Pon Anbarasu graced the occasion by accepting our invitation to
preside over as the chief guest for the occasion.
Sports day theme for Kindergarten and Grade 1 was “ DOWN AT
THE FARM”. The farm is where our food comes from and livestock
reared.
The day commenced with the hoisting of the flag by the Chief
Guest. Our Nursery, JrKg, SrKg and Grade 1 students rendered a
grand parade headed by the school band. It was a visual treat to
watch the tiny tots waving some of the farm products like Apples,
pears, mangoes and strawberries and walking in sequential line.
The parade was followed by some splendid drill display by our
tiny tots. JrKg children gave us a fascinating performance as little
bunny rabbits sporting carrots which is their favourite fruit in their
hands. SrKg children gave us a scintillating performance by shaking
and moving to the chicken song. It was really amazing to see the
tiny tots perform splendidly in their individual grade display events.
They learnt to stay strong mentally, never had fear to move forward.
All the winners were given certificates and medals as a token of
appreciation. Parents constantly applauded and encouraged the
young sports stars.
Fun time with father’s and mother’s event added to the
enjoyment. The parents displayed a sense of bravado and really
youthful participation.
The grand finale was by our Grade 1 students. It was a visual
treat to watch them tap their legs and shake themselves to the
peppy tune of the minions with brightly coloured fruits in their
hands. The Chief Guest and the Principal laid emphasis on the
importance of sports in students’ lives. The day was filled with
exciting and engrossing display of sportsmanship, fine and gross
motor coordination, a sense of fairness and yet competitive spirit.

3rd ANNUAL SPORTS MEET “Talent wins games, but team-work and intelligence wins
championships“.
PRIMARY - GAMES OF THE WORLD
Sports day, a very important event in every school
27 JULY 2019 calendar, is a platform to show case the talent and efforts
put in by the students to display their self – confidence,
patience, zeal and sportsmanship.
The much awaited Annual Sports Day was held on Saturday, 27th July, with great zeal, excitement and
frolicsome atmosphere. The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way. As the chief goal of
SAN ACADEMY Group of schools is to bring all-round development for the students; sports has been introduced
from Pre KG itself. Our Sports Day always revolves around a theme. After a widespread survey and extensive
contemplation it was decided on “National Games of the World”, to introduce a few selected National Sports,
Games of different nations and some popular sport as well. It was a day filled with fervour and exhilaration,
amidst thrills and cheers.
After a great deal of planning and training the day commenced with epitome of energy, colour and style. The
Guest of honour was Mr. Johnson Selvanayagam Former Volley Ball player (FCI), he has also been Tamil Nadu
coach for several years nurturing young talents.
The hoisting of flag was followed by March past, coupled with some stirring marching music by the band,
which demonstrated great synchronization, teamwork and discipline by the four houses who eyed for the first
place. The significance of each house and the virtues each colour symbolizes was explained. The Olympic torch
was lighted by the School Sports Captain, Sri Harsha Pitani of Class IX. After the solemn oath taking and the
declaration of the Sports Meet open by our Chief Guest, the track events and the drills commenced.
It was a delight to see the excitement with which children challenged themselves to attempt variety of races
like the sprint, middle distance race and the relay. The display track events featured different national sports
and games. One could witness meticulous planning and execution of the events, making each event unique.
Exclusive innovation could be seen in the games of lacrosse, badminton, archery, gymnastics, swimming, boxing,
shooting, golf, hockey, dribbling the ball, weightlifting, slow cycling, skating, etc. Before each display track event
an introduction to the sport was done and the budding sports stars (finalist) participated in their respective
races with full verve and vigor. The students did not have to wait long for their medals as the prize distribution
followed immediately after each set of events. The prize distribution for the field events were held before the
finale.
The audience could witness splendid field drills, drills which blended with the track events. Students of class II
mesmerized them with a graceful fan drill, which had pace and beautiful movements with their colourful props.
Careful planning and execution was seen in the dumbbell performance of Class III. Accompanied with rhythmic,
soulful music, it was refreshing and relaxing to watch the performance of rhythmic yoga by the students of
Classes IV & V. The acrobatic formation of human pyramid was exhibited by the boys of classes VI to IX and they
were very much appreciated. The energetic performance with Lezims by the girls of classes VI – IX was a fitting
finale.
