“You could be a kid for as long as you want
when you play baseball.”

—CAL RIPKEN, JR.

Getting to know Travis, it is revealed pretty early on his strong sense of
loyalty to family and friends. He is selfless by nature with a solid work
ethic that he has displayed over the years to provide traits that he hopes
all his children will learn from and emulate one day. Although he has
achieved much success in his career, he has always made time and
sacrifices for his loved ones. His kindness is revealed on a daily basis
to family, friends and strangers alike. Throughout his life, Travis has
shown passion, commitment and integrity with each and every
endeavor he has ever taken on.

Working as part of a team in the film industry, it was nothing for Travis to pick up the phone
and make a call to connect a friend or colleague looking for a new career direction with
someone he just happened to know in the industry. Travelling with Travis to the many
conventions, I get a sense of how respected he is in the industry and the high regard he is
given based on the amount of time it takes us to get from one end of the hotel to another
with so many people stopping to just say hello or introduce themselves. I cannot count the
number of times people have revealed to me how Travis has helped them along their career
path through guidance, advice or just making that call.

Travis grew up playing baseball and has always enjoyed the team aspect of the game and believes the
most important thing you can do in the business world is to surround yourself with a great team. He
has always supported his coworkers and motivated them to achieve a higher benchmark in their work
each and every day. He leads by example by being one of the first in the office and last to leave.
There are very few times I have seen Travis get emotional but movies and sports are his weakness. I
think of the time we were at Mariano Rivera’s last home game for the Yankees and usually the manager
comes out and takes the ball from the pitcher to relieve him, however on this day it was his teammates
Andy Pettitte and Derek Jeter who walked out onto that mound. We could all feel the emotion between
these players. Baseball truly is a team sport and I think that is why it means so much to Travis as he
instills that same professionalism and commitment in his work life as he sees in the game of baseball.
One of the first trips I took with Travis was to meet Bob, one of his best friends, whom he had met
when they were 22-year-old film buyers. Gradually meeting all these friends, I realized how remarkable
it was that they have all stayed in touch and been friends for forty plus years. To me that really tells you
something about not just Travis but also his friends. It reminds me of a quote from one of Travis’
favorite Christmas movies, It’s A Wonderful Life, where Clarence the angel says,

“Remember, George, no man is a failure who has friends.”
In an industry where there seems to be so much change, this group of individuals have grown up
together through the ranks and maintained friendships across the miles.

“Love is the
most important thing

in the world,
but baseball
is pretty good, too.”

—YOGI BERRA

Travis’ happiest times are when he is cooking and surrounded by his family and friends. A close second
would be Football Sundays with Travis making the boys chili while watching the game. Over the years,
we have spent wonderful days skiing in Colorado or at the many ballparks across the country creating
memories with the kids.
And now the grandkids have come along to add more love and energy to our lives. Although we all
live in different parts of the U.S., the kids can always expect the Sunday call from Dad “just to
check in.” I know from my heart that Travis’ greatest accomplishment in life is as Dad to David,
Sarah, Jake and Dylan.

On behalf of our entire family, we are very proud that Travis is being
honored as the 2017 recipient for Variety’s Lifetime Achievement
Award as a role model and humanitarian in the film industry.
Love, Sheila, David & family, Sarah, Jake and Dylan
