7.4 Processing Area

Once the archival materials arrived at the archive, it needs to be processed before meant to
be stored which is needed to check the archival materials is free from inspection, molds and
need to check the archive materials condition. All the materials need to be clean before ready
to store. This area basically located at the second door and this area not necessary located
near to the pubic area and staff. Other than that, the treatment area needs to be one door
access only to control the negative pressure.

➢ Loading Docks/Bays

This area meant for a large truck or van for the arrival of archival materials. The loading dock
needed at least two loading dock and necessary to use shutter for the dock. Need to consider
also the loading dock is sufficient to unloading the archival materials to the receiving room.

This area will hold the archival materials that arrive before the materials being transferred to
the processing area and treatment room. This area also should sufficient to hold the archival
materials. Other than that, this area should near to the processing and treatment room to
ensure all the doors one access only within each room starting for this area.

This room as temporary storage for the archival materials. In this room where the materials
need to be key in and action will be taken for each material before going into the treatment
area. The materials in this room may be contaminated so that need to ensure this room is
being isolated to prevent the potential of contamination of the enemy of records like insects
and mold.

➢ Treatment Room
This area includes three areas and it is interrelated to process the archival materials. The three
areas involve firstly, the dirty room that contains negative pressure which holds materials being
inspected. Secondly, the work room which will be clean the contaminated materials before

ready for storage. Finally, the humidifier room, after the material has been clean it will be put
in the humidifier room to control the temperature before being set up their location to be stored
in the storage.
