BASICS TO
BRILLIANCE

Kumar lives in a village near Rawang. He comes from a poor family.
Kumar’s father is a lorry driver and his mother is a house wife. He has three
brothers and a sister. Kumar studies in SJKT Rawang, in standard six. He was very
poor at Mathematics and usually fails. However, he scores high marks in other
subjects.

Kumar’s Mathematics teacher is Ms. Saratha. She always advices him to
practice his mathematics at home and also gives him additional guide.
However, Kumar still could not improve and keep scoring low marks. Since,
Kumar’s parents are very poor, they can’t afford to provide him any tuition. This
situation made him very worried. Kumar felt helpless.

But, Kumar remembered a quote his teacher always tells in the class,
“God helps those whom help themselves”. Kumar, made up his mind to
practice Mathematics every day at home after school. Hence, he started to
practice Mathematics at least two hours every day. Any sums, which he was
not clear he will discuss with Ms. Saratha or his classmate Rohan. Rohan always
willing to help Kumar.

Gradually, after three months of continuous effort, Kumar began to
perform better in his mathematics. In fact, Kumar became very fond of
Mathematics now. Indeed, he has picked-up the technics of doing
mathematics very well.

Now, as the UPSR exam was around the corner, he spent most of his time
revising his work and practicing mathematics. Kumar’s goal is to score 8A in
UPSR exam and make his parents and teachers proud. He set for his UPSR
exam, with full confident.

That morning, Kumar and his father rushed to the school, because UPSR

Kumar’s father was overwhelmed with joy. His, Mathematics’ teacher Saratha
pat Kumar’s back and said, “You are an exemplary of basics to brilliance. Keep

It was a Saturday morning; Raju’s family was very excited to visit the zoo.
His dad went to filled up oil to the car. After Raju’s dad, came home everyone

GEOTHERMAL
ENERGY

Do you know what it is like at the center of earth? It is extremely hot. The
temperature is thought to be about 7000°c, which is hot enough to melt rock.
The heat spreads to the rock around the center of earth and to water trapped
between the layers of rocks.

In some parts of world, this hot water is close to earth’s surface. By
pushing it out of the ground as hot water or steam, engineers have exploited
a new source of energy. This energy is called geothermal energy, which means
it is heat energy from under the ground.

Further, hot water from inner earth is used to grow tropical fruits in
Iceland. We do have a hot water pond near the main road from Selayang to
Rawang. Therefore, there are bright chances for Rawang residents to grow
tropical fruits in the nearest future.

Next, more than a dozen countries in the world, include Iceland, Italy,
New Zealand and the United States have built geothermal power stations.
Steam comes out of the ground at high pressure that is used to run steam
turbines that generate electricity in the power stations.

In the future, more countries might use geothermal energy. Malaysia can
be one of them. Why not? According to history, electricity first made its
appearance in this country at the turn of the 20th century and the earliest
record of power generation. Loke Yew and Thamboosamy Pillai in 1984
installed an electric generator in a small mining town Rawang. That marked
the great beginning of the story of electricity in Malaysia.

It can be predicted that geothermal power station can be build
underground, where an electric cable would then be needed to bring the
electric power to earth. In the future, Rawang can be a potential place for
geothermal power station.

THE PANDEMIC

Before the pandemic, my weekly schedule was always packed with a
lot of activities like school, tuition classes and co-curriculum classes during
weeks days and Bharatanatyam and Sangeetham classes during weekends.
Despite being tired I was happy because I meet a lot friends and I never felt
boring.

Now I see people with the face masks everywhere and only few cars on
the road. School has been closed for many months. I am happy to be able to
spend more time with my family at home but I’m always worried that my family
and friends will get sick because of Covid 19. I miss going to school. I miss visiting
my grandparents at their house. I miss playing with my friends at the park.

During lockdown I spent most of my time attending the online classes,
doing my homework, watching television and playing videogames. My father
bought many board games like Catan, Forbidden Island via online. These kept
me busy during the lockdown.

I hope that this pandemic will soon end so I can go back to school and
meet my friends. People are advised to stay home and keep distance from
one another. Hand sanitizing, frequent hand wash and showering is a must. All
this will soon pass, we will be fine if we take care of ourselves ‘kita jaga kita’.
We must sacrifice a little now so that we can enjoy our livelihood soon.

THE DUCKLING

The school bell rang. Classes were over. Isabelle and Daisy are
classmates. They chatted while walking home.

Suddenly, a weird little sound came whispering into their ears. Isabelle
and Daisy turned back and looked at what was the sound about. They saw a
duckling flapping, its wings and running after them. It was looking scared.

Isabelle picked the duckling. She felt sorry for it. She took it home and
asked her parent if she could keep the duckling as her pet. Her parents felt
proud of Isabelle for being kind to pets. Isabelle gave the duckling a bath and
gave it food every day. Now, the duckling has a home to live and Isabelle has
a pet to take care.

HOMEWORK IS
IMPORTANT

Homework is an important daily activity for each and every school
student. Homework is an additional work that is given to student upon
accomplishing the day to day school session. As known to all, homework is
liked by some while many think it as a burden.

Homework is very important to ensure the student understand better on
the relevant subject which was discussed in the class. By doing the homework,
the student will understand the subject better. It also improves the student’s
problem solving and thinking skills. Especially Mathematics homework, the
student needs to think and solve the fractions.

As the homework have certain submission timeline, the student learns on
how to manage their timing properly by creating a timetable. By doing this,
the student will understand the importance of time and will not waste it easily.
This will also shape the student to become a better and efficient people now
and also in future.

Upon completing the homework, the student will feel happy as though
they have accomplished a given task. The student also gains an opportunity
to revise the subject and understand the learned topic fully. If student maintain
this as their routine, the fear of examinations will vanish. Homework will help the
student to score better and excel in exams, as the saying goes “practice make
perfect”.

Lastly, during this uncertain covid-19 pandemic situations, the education
system switched to online and students are required to complete their
homework in order to evaluate their PBD marks. The only way to evaluate the
students is via their homework accomplishment. This will help the teachers to
understand each and every student progress.

As a conclusion, homework plays a vital role in molding and shaping the
students for their better future. This will enable them to become an organized
and successful person in life. Therefore, homework is important in a student life.

MY LOVELY PET

All children and even grown-ups, are fond of keeping pets. Some have
fish, cats, rabbits and parrots as their pets. I have a dog as a pet. The name of
my pet is Bella. He is a common breed dog. He is a medium size dog and has
large dark eyes.

I got my dog from my cousin. He was going abroad and wanted a good
home for his dog who was then a puppy. I was only too happy to volunteer
and that is how I got Bella. Bella, is light brown in color and barks very loudly at
all strangers. Even the postman and other delivery men are scared of coming
inside our house when Bella is in the premises of the house.

Bella loves to eat bread, meat and drink milk. It accompanies me for my
walks and enjoys barking at other dogs. I always put Bella on a leash, so that
the passerby’s do not get scared or traumatized. I bathe it daily with dog soap
and also comb its hair-coat. Bella is a clean dog and never spoils the house.

JUNK FOOD

Junk food comes in many colours, flavours and types of packaging. Most
of it contains very little nutrition. Some are in the form of food and snacks. The
drink is usually colorful and contain a lot of sugar. Its can cause diabetes and
high blood pressure. Many people are addicted to these drinks and this has
become a big problem to our health care system.

Other than that, burgers and fries are another junk food that has caught
on here. These types of food, which include fried chicken and fish usually have
high calories content. They can lead to obesity, high blood pressure and heart
disease. For examples KFC, Mc Donald, Burger King, Pizza Hut and others.

Another worrying example of junk food that is widely available is candy.
Candies of all colours and shapes, flavours and wrappings are found almost
everywhere. They are usually cheap and sold in places where there are
children and schools. Most are made from sugar and starch.

In conclusion, we must educate the public of this huge threat to our
health. The younger generation must be informed of this danger.

PANDEMIC LIFE

When the coronavirus spread, I wasn’t worried at all. On the opposite, I
wanted it to go on so that we would have longer holidays. I didn’t realize that
everything would be closed because of coronavirus and the holidays wouldn’t
be nearly as much fun as I expected.

The first week was fun, not many things were closed. But after a couple
of days, the virus spread to more people and everything got closed, so just
sitting at home was getting boring. Usually I can be entertained really simply,
just give me a phone or a laptop and yeah that's pretty much it, I will sit by
myself and play games. But my mother and grandma don’t really like that,
they want me to be healthy so sitting all day playing video games is not an
option.

So, I found other ways to entertain myself. First, reading, I have always
loved reading about the great leading warlord of the World War 1 & 2 but I’m
running out of books and the bookstores are closed. Second, I really enjoy
helping out my mother at the kitchen, it’s just so satisfying when you have
everything organized and ready to go and then you make just the perfect dish.
But when I cook things don't usually go that way and there’s total chaos in the
kitchen. Third, football is my passion. I usually spent my evening training my
football skills at the front yard of my house, but only few minutes is allowed by
my parents. So, that the list of things I do during the corona holidays.

ONLINE CLASSES

COVID - 19 brings new normal of learning process. Today, digital learning
has emerged as a necessary for students after schools all over world closed.
There are advantages and disadvantages by this online classes.

Online classes help to extend the lesson beyond textbook to include
online resources. It helps pupils to learn effectively. Multiple online resources
based on pupil’s ability attract pupils towards a better education.

Another advantage of online classes is pupils can attend the classes
from any location of their choice. This allows pupils to access the learning at a
time of their comfort. Beside that online classes also reduced financial costs.
Parents can save the cost of transport, meal and many more.

Online classes also bring some disadvantages. The biggest challenge is
pupils struggle with focusing on the screen for long periods of time. If pupils
spent a lot of time sitting in front of the screen they cannot have a healthy life.

Online classes also increase parent’s responsibility. Not all the parents
are educated to guide their kids. Because of the extra role many parents
feeling tiresome in handling their own kids.

Online classes a good way of learning during the pandemic. However,
traditional classroom only the best made of learning . Let us break the chain of
COVID-19 and back to school life which we missed very much.

THE INTELLIGENT
THIEF

Once upon a time, in a forest which was beautiful there lived two foxes
that were selfish and thought that they were the most brilliant creatures in the
planet. ‘We are the most brilliant creatures in the world’, said one. While
another said ‘Yes, no one can compete with us.’ said another. Even the
animals did not like them because they were selfish.

One night, when all the animals were asleep, and the moonlight came
a thief started to steal the monkey’s, deer’s, elephant’s, food and it ate all the
foods.

Next morning, all the animals gathered in front of the lion’s den. Sound
of their angry talks woke the lion who was sleeping. ‘What’s going on out
there’, it angrily roared. It saw the animals and asked ‘Why are you all gathered
here’? The jackal said ‘Someone stole our food in the night’. ‘Yes someone
stole my bananas’, said the monkey. ‘You lost your food but the thief ate my
children’, said the rabbit. The lion was shocked to hear this. It asked ‘Did you
see any footprints on the ground’? ‘No.’ the animals replied .The lion said
‘Alright, this night I will round the entire forest to catch that thief. The animals
were happy to hear this and they slept happily that night.

As promised, the lion went for rounds in the forest but it did not see
anyone trespassing by. It thought ‘The thief must have ran away fearing for
me’, and it went to its den. The thief who was hiding saw the lion leaving and
followed it. When the lion went to its den ate the food it has hunted and slept
tiredly .The thief sneaked in to the lion’s den and took its meat that the lion left
and ran out.

The next morning, when the lion woke up hungrily and searched for its
food it noticed that the balance meat was missing. It became angry and
announced an emergency meeting in the forest. All the animals gathered in
front of the lion’s den. The lion talked ‘Last night I took rounds in the forest
hoping to catch the thief but I didn’t see anyone but when I was asleep
someone stole my food.

I would have banished him from the forest but since he had stolen my
food I would not spare him alive. I have a plan and to execute it I need your
help.’ It asked. The animals agreed to him. ‘I need you to spread news through
the forest that I have caught fresh meat and hid it in my den. So that when the
thief comes he will get caught’, said the lion.

The news spread through the forest and the two foxes came to know it.
‘The lion has hunted fresh meat we can go and steal that meat’. Another fox
agreed. In the evening, the lion and the animals were waiting for the thief. The
two foxes came. The lion asked ‘What are you two doing here? were you the
ones stealing our food?’ The foxes were shocked and when they were about
to answer a shadow approached from the lion’s den carrying a piece of meat.
It was the Jackal! The lion asked ‘So you were the one stealing the food? I
would have even forgive you but you stole my meat from my den’ Saying so it
pounced on the Jackal and killed it.

Masha wanted to get back home to Grandpa and Granny. She baked mince

the basket to Masha’s place.

On his way, the bear got tired and sat down under a tree. He said to
himself “I will eat up a pie”, and Masha replied from the basket. “I am sitting
above on a tree. I can see everything .Don’t sit down under a tree. Don’t sit
down under a tree. Don’t eat up a pie”, and the bear got up and went on.

When he came up to Masha’s place, a dog ran out and started barking

After some time, a fox came to the cave. He heard a voice from inside
