PRAKAT
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. Asslamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
and greetings.

Alhamdulillah, all praise, and gratitude to Allah SWT for His grace,
the International Education e-Colloquium of Miri District Education Office
Year 2022 can be realizable successfully. On 2020, PPD Miri successfully
run the National e-Colloquium on 1st till 2nd December 2020. Today, we
witness PPD Miri run the International e-Colloquium for year 2022. This e-
Colloquium is a platform to create collaboration between educators inside
and outside of Malaysia to share the best practices related to teaching and
learning between all stakeholders to strengthen the professionalism of
educators and further enhance the students' well-being. However, due to the appropriateness of the
Covid-19 pandemic situation, this e-Colloquium is conducted online.

This e-Colloquium is also a discourse that connects smart partnerships among education
leaders to communicate and collaborate in best practices in schools. This effort is expected to help
strengthen the school's leadership, maximize the potential of teachers and pupils through improving the
quality of teaching and learning as well as strengthening the involvement of parents, communities, and
stakeholders for the students' well-being in line with the vision and mission of the MOE.

This year, I was informed that there were 114 participation and presentations in e-Colloquium.
Among the 114 participation, 86 were in district are while 28 participation were from outside of the
district. Th presenters were among preschool, primary, and secondary teachers, Polytechnic lecturers,
Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) lecturers, State Education Department officials, District Education
Office officers and educators from private institutions.

Congratulations to the Key Note speaker that consist of 9 experts from within and outside the
country who presented various topics related to early childhood education and special education
themed "Innovate to inspire".

The “Innovation to inspire” theme was chosen based on the changes that happened to the
world globally. In this world of industry revolution 4.0, one of the most important elements is innovation.
Therefore, continuous efforts must be done in the education system to produce young generations that
always think outside of the box or even without the box so they can compete in the international arena.

The teaching and learning system (PdP) must also be more innovative and in line with needs
of the digital revolution to produce innovative, capable, and highly skilled students. Hence, the
sustainability of PdP should be improved by absorbing the digitization element in the 'mainstream' of
learning. Since the pandemic and schools were closed from March 2020, a massive transformation
has taken place in the education system. Face-to-face PdP has been replaced with PdPR (Learning
and Teaching at Home) online or offline.

Teachers are required to apply virtual teaching optimally to ensure continuous learning takes
place in all corners of the country. All teachers have done their best to continue their struggle in
education by using various digital tools either in DELIMA platforms or other digital platforms. There are
many action research papers presented in the e-Colloquium this time which reflects the teacher's PdPR
pedagogical practice which will inspire other teachers to further strengthen digitalization in education.
This will help the students' achievement as well as educate their minds to be better prepared for the
future competition of career and life.

Recently, the World Bank's Chief Higher Education Specialist Francisco Marmolejo at the
Industrial Revolution 4.0 Seminar said the nationwide higher education system will also embrace the
changes because of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. According to him, our self-knowledge today only
contributes a total of one 1% only by the next 30 years and by that time, job market will be filled with
highly skilled, creative, and critically minded individuals or workforce. Thus, it is appropriate to start at
the preschool level that we have already applied soft values to the students to enable them to prepare
for the world of the job market one day.

iv

Early childhood education became the basis for the construction of a nation and country. There
is an Arabic proverb that mentions if we want to see the future generations; look at the children currently.
In fact, a balanced education intellectually and spiritually necessarily needs to be nurtured in early
childhood to create individuals with high intellect and noble morals and able to face the challenges of
the world at this time. In the meantime, to foster and inculcate early education in children, all parties
must be prepared for some challenges to ensure that these children are successfully educated. Among
the parties involved and working together are children, parents, teachers, Non-Governmental
Organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders. Through this e-Colloquium, several partnerships from
invited speakers will provide some creative and innovative ideas and methods that preschool teachers
can use in facing the new world of millennium education.

The biggest challenge that needs to be faced by the special education teachers is addressing
the six domains of Special Needs Pupils (MBKs) in the Individual Education Plan. The six domains are:
Language and Communication Domain, Behavioral Domain, Gross Psycho motor Domain, Fine Psycho
motor Domain, Cognitive Domain, and Sociology-Emotional Domain. Special Needs Students (MBK)
will perform various actions or attitudes to show rebelliousness, anger, sadness and so on. There are
also students who behave because they want attention. There are teachers who have been bitten and
beaten for not paying attention to a MBK student. Due to the diverse range, teachers of special
education must use innovations and all their specialties whether persuading, solving problems and so
on.

The next challenge comes from the parents of the MBK students when they put high hopes on the
teachers to change their children. When there is a parent's awareness of their children's learning
problems, they will send their child to school. A special education teacher with a sense of responsibility
and sincerity in carrying out tasks can bring change to these special children. There are many true
stories from MBK parents who say that their child has made an impressive change when they are
interested in school and start making friends. On that basis, special education should be empowered
to place MBK into education which should be in line with the level of development of the MBK itself.

In this e-Colloquium, a few speakers and presenters will address a variety of innovations in special
education to give motivation and inspiration to the other teachers to be applied in the process of learning
in the classroom. In addition, as education leaders, we need to have high confidence and ability to
mobilize our respective organizations in strengthening our identity and strengthening soft skills to
prepare the generation for the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

The successful implementation of e-Colloquium is the result of hard work from many parties.
Congratulations to PPD Miri and thank you to all the presenters and committee members for their
outstanding success in the implementation of the e-Colloquium Education International Level Miri
District Education Office Year 2022. May this effort be blessed and blessed by Allah SWT as well as
achieve the goal of organizing.

Thank you, wabillahi taufik walhidayah. Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

SEPATAH KATA SEULAS BICARA

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi

Wabarakatuh dan salam sejahtera

First, let us all express our gratitude to Allah Subhanahu Wa
Taala because with His permission, we can gather in the International
Education e-Colloquium today. It is my sincere hope that everyone who
attends this e-colloquium will have a positive impact and experience.

Firstly, I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the
willingness of the Director to be present to officiate the e-Colloquium of
Education at the International Level of Miri District Education Office 2022
on 22 February 2022. I would also like to thank all in attendance for the presence of Sir/Madam which
means a lot to us PPD Miri as the organizer of the International Level Education e-Colloquium Miri
District Education Office 2022.

This appreciation also goes to all employees and the secretariat of this colloquium for their
efforts and high commitment to realize activities that are very meaningful to all educational staff,
especially Miri district. I also take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to
all Key Note Speakers for sharing ideas with the attendees in their respective areas of expertise. They
will be presenting a variety of titles that is related to early childhood education and special education.
Hopefully, the result of this presentation will become the source of reference and guidance to various
parties especially educators in conducting teaching and learning (PdP) in schools. As a result of this
sharing of knowledge and experience, I hope that you will be able to make it as a guideline and boundary
to strategize towards further strengthening the pedagogy of teachers.

I would also like to say well done and congratulations to all the presenters of the action study
paper whether it is an individual or group presentation. For your information, a total of 110 action study
papers i.e., 86 action study papers from Miri PPD and 24 research papers from outside Miri PPD will
be presented from various parties who are experts and highly experienced in their respective fields. On
1 to 2 December 2020, PPD Miri held a National Level Education e-colloquium. This e-Colloquium has
had a significant impact on 60 schools in Miri as each school has sent presenters in the e-Colloquium.
A total of 89 action studies were presented. A total of 49 action studies were selected to be approved
in the "National Level Education e-colloquium Action Study Collection 2020" by the National Library of
Malaysia.

The culture of action studies is increasing among teachers in Miri PPD. Teachers can exchange
opinions and share experiences, not only in the field of Teaching and Learning, but in the field of school
management. As a result, the Learning Sector of PPD Miri has formed the Action Study Taskforce and
all 61 schools in PPD Miri have appointed a teacher to be the Action Study Coordinator starting early
2021. The "Road to Colloquium" program started in February 2021 with a series of partnerships and
guidance by Miri District Level Action Review Coach.

With the increasing interest of teachers in action studies and the strengthening of awareness
of MLT (Middle Leader Team) joint action studies guided by SISC+, I have decided that the second e-
Colloquium of Education in 2022 be held and expanded internationally. For the audience's information,
the theme of the Miri International Level PPD Education e-Colloquium 2022 is Innovate to Inspire. The
sub-themes are Special Education, Early Childhood Education, STEM, Language and Arts and
Education Management. The Educational Colloquium among educators is seen as an effort that can
improve professionalism among educators. The main concept of this colloquium is to provide a platform
to create a collaborative spirit between secondary and primary schools, especially educators in
Malaysia and outside Malaysia to share on best practices especially related to teaching and learning,
thus improving students' achievement.

Thank you, wabillahi taufik walhidayah…Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

DBM10013 VOD APPLICATION TO EASILY PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH ACCESS TO THE
ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS COURSE 1 LEARNING AND TEACHING MATERIALS

ABSTRACT

This study is run to improve lecturer’s learning and teaching strategy online (PdPDT) for Engineering Mathematics
course 1 using the DBM10013 Video on Demand (VOD) app. This study involves 38 students of Diploma in
Mechanical Egineering (Plant) at Polytechnic Seberang Perai. The main factors for students to understand and
review well are the problem of digital technology accessibility while PdPDT is running and the difficulty of students
accessing PdPDT materials that have been uploaded. As a result, the study was carried out in order to determine
students' perceptions of the use of the DBM10013 VOD application in PdPDT as well as to increase the percentage
of achievement of students in the Mathematical Engineering course 1. Questionnaires were distributed to students
via Google Form before and after the study and analysed using the quantitative percentage method. According to
the study's findings, the DBM10013 VOD application can help students access PdPDT materials for the Engineering
Mathematics course 1. In comparison to previous PdPDT strategies, PdPDT materials in the form of video
recordings, notes, and exercises are organised in an orderly and systematic manner. The findings of this study
successfully identified the most significant issue that students encountered when accessing PdPDT videos for
learning Engineering Mathematics 1 course due to internet network and internet data constraints. As a result of these
issues, the researcher created an application to help students overcome the challenges that today's technology
presents. The DBM10013 VOD application developed can assist students in more easily and quickly accessing
recorded PdPDT videos.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE USE OF THE PILOT TABLE METHOD IN THE
CONVERSION OF UNITS OF LENGTH, MASS, AND VOLUME

ABSTRACT

This study aims to improve my practise as a Mathematics teacher by using the Pilot Table method to
solve problems encountered by pupils who are lacking in standard unit conversion skills for the topics
of Length, Mass, and Volume of Liquid. The target group consisted of 10 Year 6 students. Based on
the observations of the students' homework review, Year 6 students faced problems in unit conversion
involving the solution of mathematical sentences of addition and subtraction of length, mass and volume
of a liquid. As a teacher, I will try my best to help pupils in understanding this topic. To achieve this goal,
I studied innovative teaching methods by making the conversion of units of length, mass and volume of
a liquid as the focus of my study. Worksheet 1 was conducted to track where the student’s weaknesses
were. Meanwhile, Worksheet 2 for the same topic was administered following the introduction of the
innovation method, i.e. Pilot Schedule. The study's findings were quantitatively analyzed using
worksheets, and it was discovered that using the Pilot Table is effective in improving mastery of
standard unit conversion skills in the topics of Length, Mass, and Volume of Liquids. The achievement
of the planned objectives also demonstrates the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. As
a result, it is hoped that this study will encourage teachers to continue to improve their teaching methods
in the area of mathematics.

MASTERING THE SKILLS OF CHANGING CLASSICAL MALAY INTO STANDARD
MALAY USING BULETS TECHNIQUE AMONG 5TH FORM STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

This innovation was created to overcome the problem in converting the classic Malay text to standard
Malay faced by the 5th grade students in question 4 of Paper 2 of the SPM Malay Language. A total of
41 students were involved in the study to produce this innovation. The initial survey was carried out
through observation methods, pre-tests and questionnaires. The results of the survey show that
students are uninterested in answering this part because they do not understand classical language.
When doing exercises, students simply memorise the answers to these questions in order to answer
them in the exam or wait for the teacher's response. This part is difficult for teachers to teach to students.
The innovation strategy is centred on techniques for improving mastery of the skills of converting classic
Malay to standard Malay. This innovation's production was completed in three months. Post-test results
showed that student performance had improved. The results of the observation show that students are
more interested in and capable of learning independently when using the BuLeTS technique. This
technique can be improved by printing it only on A4 paper so that more students can use it.

IMPROVING THE ABILITY TO SOLVE CERTAIN MATHEMATICAL
PROBLEMS BY VISUALIZATION METHOD

ABSTRACT

This action study is aimed to determine the effectiveness of the visualization method in improving the ability
of solving verse mathematical problems among Form 6 students at Sekolah Menengah Baru Miri, Sarawak.
The ability to read to understand the question is important during the reasoning process and problem solving
in verse mathematical problems. Mathematical problem solving verse is an important component in
Mathematics, but most students are unable to master the skills of solving verse Mathematical problems even
though they are able to perform basic Mathematical operations. Therefore, an appropriate technique needs
to be identified to help students deal with difficulties in solving verse Mathematics problems. This method of
visualization focuses on the problem understanding phase, which will help students plan and subsequently
implement problem-solving strategies. The study sample consisted of 8 people from Upper Sixth Form
Science stream students of different cognitive levels. Data were obtained through pre-tests and post -test
solving verse Mathematics problems as well as through observations to types of visualizations made by
students. Script analysis of student responses was also performed as supporting data. The study's findings
show that students with high cognitive levels use schematic visualization methods, whereas students with
moderate and low cognitive levels use pictorial visualization methods. Despite the fact that students use a
variety of visualization representations, their ability to solve problems has improved. In conclusion, this
situation demonstrates that visualization methods can help students of various cognitive levels improve their
ability to solve verse Mathematics problems.

IMPROVING THE MASTERY OF SPM SUMMARY QUESTIONS BY USING T-FO
TECHNIQUES AMONG 4 SIGMA STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

Summary Question is one of the questions in paper 2 Bahasa Melayu SPM KSSM that became one of the
students' markers. Early observations by the teacher revealed that the student did not master this question
and did not achieve high marks despite the question format. In comparison to the previous SPM format, this
KSSM SPM formula is more candidate-friendly. Students can earn high marks in this question if they master
the skill of identifying important content in the materials provided. This Action Research is conducted to assist
students in improving their mastery of answering Summary questions, which include identifying themes,
focus, and content important from the materials provided in Question 9 Paper 2 BM SPM using the T-FO
technique. Teachers used the Action research method to conduct pre- and post-tests, a question survey, and
a training review on 5 Form 4 Sigma students to test the effectiveness of T-FO Techniques in helping students
improve their mastery of answering summary questions. This study discovered that using the T-FO
Technique in summary questions to students can help them master the question better. Furthermore, it
compares student achievement scores before and after using the T-FO Technique. Studies like this have
been shown to benefit both students and teachers in terms of teaching and learning, as well as student
mastery. Following this, suggestions for improvement include providing teaching aids in the form of games
through the 21st Century Learning approach (Fun Learning) in order to change the learning climate in the
classroom from a boring to a more fun atmosphere.

History Teacher) aims to improve the competence of SMKDP History teachers while also increasing
the percentage of SPM History subjects that pass. The target group consists of 13 history teachers who
teach students from Form 1 to Form 5. During September 2020 to February 2021, thirteen (13) History
teachers demonstrated various PdP History pedagogies while cultivating a Professional Learning
Community (PLC) and Best Practice Partnership (PAT). When the SKPMg2 Standard 4 score rises, the
History pass percentage in SPM 2020 rises to 83.91 percent, and the percentage eligible for SPM 2020
certificate rises to 83.12 percent. The programme can be expanded with more structured planning
involving students and parents in order to increase their perceptions of the significance of history in
determining students' futures.

PROMOTING GREATER LEARNER PARTICIPATION DURING PDPR THROUGH
FACEBOOK: AN ACTION RESEARCH

[email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

ABSTRACT

Social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter is quite popular not only as a means of
entertainment but also as an educational tool for learners at various levels. This action research
focuses on the use of Facebook as a platform for 109 SK Merbau pupils from Year 6 Dedikasi, Efisien
and Gigih to showcase their English assignments – allowing for greater audience reach and feedback
from teachers, peers as well as parents. Before intervention, pupils only had the option of sending
pictures of their completed English tasks personally via Whatsapp or telegram. By providing a concrete
purpose to complete assignments (i.e showing completed tasks to their peers, parents as well as
teachers), it was observed that the use of Facebook as a learning tool positively impacted learner
participation in PdPR sessions. There was an increase of 21.9% in learner participation. Teachers,
parents and peers could comment and give a ‘love/like’ symbol on work posted by pupils in the Year 6
D.E.G Online Class Facebook group. A short questionnaire on learner motivation revealed that 61.3%
of the pupils prefer to post their work on Facebook. Besides that, the introduction of differentiated
instruction (tasks tailored to pupils’ abilities by allowing different work outcomes and providing diverse
scaffolding amounts) was also shown to encourage learner participation as reflected in the number of
pupils handing in assignments.

THE FEASIBILITY OF USING TONGUE TWISTER TO IMPROVE PRONUNCIATION TO
PRESCHOOLERS

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this action research is to authenticate the feasibility of using a tongue twister in the
preschool classroom to teach pronunciation in both listening and speaking. It involved two preschoolers
as respondents. 57.81% of 5+ group and 69.44% of 4+ group preschool kids in PPD Miri were at
Performance Level 1 in the National Preschool Assessment for Observation 1 in 2021, which is terrifying
and raises a great deal of doubt. Therefore, a tongue twister was used to intervene on the issue in three
weeks of observation. The study showed that tongue twisters do help preschoolers improve their
pronunciation under certain conditions. It is concluded that tongue twisters are a fun way to enhance
proficiency and the ability to speak fluently.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF EYEQ RUSH IN IMPROVING STUDENTS'
UNDERSTANDING OF HUMAN EYES AMONG THE FORM 3 CEMPAKA STUDENTS

ANGLELINA SII AI JING

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan MERBAU MIRI

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this Action Research is to help students from Form 3 Cempaka master the names and
functions of different parts of eyes. From my personal experience, I know that the conventional way of
delivering the topic is not going to help the students in understanding and remembering the content of
the topic. Therefore, the focus of my research is to find a way to help the students in understanding the
topic better and of course making them feel great and motivated throughout the lesson. I hit upon the
idea of producing EyeQ Rush when I got a chance to learn more about WordWall applications during
an online course organized by Arus Academy. EyeQ Rush itself will integrate gamification in the lesson.
Students got a chance to learn in a very different way. The students have fun and stay motivated
throughout the lesson. The ability of the students to state the name and function of different parts of the
eyes was very amazing and encouraging after EyeQ Rush was carried out. Feedback of students was
also overwhelmingly positive and many say that they enjoy the lessons tremendously after the
introduction of EyeQ Rush.

ABSTRACT

This study is aimed to look at the effectiveness of Think-Aloud strategy on the reading comprehension
skills of the Year 3 primary school pupils. This research was conducted in an urban national school in
Miri. Group of pupils chosen for this research consisted of 20 pupils of 9 years old and of mixed ability.
These pupils were introduced and guided to use the Think-Aloud strategy in understanding the
comprehension passages used in their reading lessons in the classroom. Data collected on the
effectiveness of the use of Think-Aloud strategy are based on the classroom assessment in addition to
the observation during the teaching and learning sessions. Based on the data collected, it can be
concluded that there was a great difference in the number of pupils who showed improvement in the
classroom assessment carried out in March and November 2019. Adding to that, this strategy also
brings in the fun element in learning the reading skill.

ABSTRACT

This study was run with the purpose of improving mastery of the skill of pronouncing open syllables
more easily and systematically through the WhatsApp application's Video T-Baca SUKATA method
(Continue Reading Syllables). The aspect studied is that students have difficulties reading words with
open syllables, such as the words KVKV and KVKVKV. This study includes 15 special rehabilitation
students who will participate in the implementation stage for two weeks, from July 24 to August 7, 2021.
Actions are carried out through observation, interview methods, and document analysis. Tables are
used to translate document analysis. The results show that all students can correctly read simple
sentences with open syllables. Simultaneously, the method of watching while learning can address the
issue of students not being able to read syllables accurately while also increasing students' motivation
and confidence to attend PdPR sessions. Furthermore, the SUKATA T-Reading Video method
simplifies and improves my PdPR practise greetings in the Covid 19 pandemic era. I intend to continue
the action research in overcoming the problem of learning special rehabilitation skills, which is based
on the concept of reading through syllable method.

partnering with parents in ways that support Z-learners’ learning and upgrading their skills in English
vocabularies learning performance and develop critical thinking skills. The sample of the were 32 Year Three
Pupils in SJKC that include 16 pupils in treatment group and 16 pupils in control group. Data were analysed
using the SPSS version 18.0 software which contains mean score and t-test. The results showed that there
were significant differences in the level (t = -7.559, df 58, p <0.05), it showed that pupils in the treatment
group significantly outperformed those in the control group, which means pupils learning performance in
English considerably enhanced through the usage of AR Flash Card with QR Code. Based on the study, this
interactive method helps young learners in learning vocabularies including letter sounds and the meaning.
Moreover, it keeps pupils engaged for longer periods of time and provides teachers-parents pedagogical
implications and future research directions. This method has aggressively perforated into the learning
process of English vocabularies and manifested the effectiveness, especially with millennial generation in
year three for them to facilitate meaningful learning environment. Our findings suggest opportunities to scale
the practice, for highly motivated pupils, strugglers and remedial pupils.

EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY TOOLS TO ENHANCE LANGUAGE LEARNING
INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION E-COLLOQUIUM 2022

ABSTRACT

As providers of virtual and language learning systems, we seek 5 primary schools as partners for classroom
research to explore the usage of language learning in Bahasa Malaysia, Arabic, Chinese, Tamil and English
languages with current speech technologies. Virtual learning environments and learning management
systems (LMS) have recently become ubiquitously available to learners of all age and languages. The way
teachers teach in the classrooms are now permanently altered in ways never imagined before. This article
examines the growth from the perspective of designing academic learning environments that is being
reinvented to fit the ground burst of online instructional demand, shifting the physical classroom environments
to the now commonly used online teaching and learning platforms for distance and home-based learning.
Technology in education is being remodeled to becoming one of supreme importance, causing a storm of
change in instructional and lesson design, while the schemes of work (SOW) require continuous
improvisation. Due to social distancing and the reduction of social meetings, the teaching of the languages
may have been more affected than many have realized. The traditional teaching methods are no longer able
to hold the foundations of daily interactions essential to acquiring the languages, since face-to-face daily
gatherings have been reduced monumentally. The enhancements for language learning have thus been
accelerated and peaked to fit the needs of both educators and learners. The introduction of the latest speech
technologies such as text-to-speech artificial intelligence, reading fluency and accuracy of speech can now
be graded automatically within a platform. Enhancements to speech technology therefore has to continuously
evolve in order to assist language teachers and learners further.

ABSTRACT

This research came about after we falter since the closing of school due to Covid-19. We have chosen
twenty students from Year 1. This research is merely based on our short face to face classroom lessons
and the rest are through observations and feedback we got after every lesson since January until
August 2021. As we shifted from classroom learning to virtual lesson, we faced continuous frustrations
in initiating our teaching. Responses from parents and students were not positive. Our students are
mostly from below average income group, except for a few who are above that level. Majority of them
shared their parents’ smart phones with their siblings. Initially, we gave written instructions in dual
languages (English and Bahasa Melayu). Some parents can’t have grabbed the meaning while others
can’t even read. After much thoughts we changed our strategies to using WhatsApp voice record. Our
only mode of connection was through WhatsApp. We shared screenshots of pictures with plenty voice
records and videos. As months passed, obviously parents’ involvement in helping their children became
apparent. We encouraged them by slowly sharing links to live worksheets, quizizz or wordwall for
enrichment exercises. The teaching and learning process came to life with the parents help at home.

ABSTRACT

This action research aimed to improve the confidence level in MUET speaking skills among the 26
students from Form 6 Amanah in SMK Baru Miri. A focused group of 8 students in 6 Amanah from Band
2 to Band 3 levels were chosen as samples in this study. The study was conducted a treatment adapted
from communicative language teaching (CLT) approach for students to role play, present and discuss
for 12-minute group interaction in Part 2. It took a period of 4 practices. In each practice, students role-
played with their group mates with the help of the language function guidelines for others to listen. They
imitated and learnt from one another to maintain the discussion in group interaction. At the end, they
received constructive comments to improve their speaking skills from their peers and the researcher.
The students’ progress was observed by the researcher and 4 students were interviewed. The findings
indicated that the treatment helped the 6 students to improve in their confidence level in terms of
delivering a clearer structure to link their ideas in group discussion. The implication of this treatment
may be extended to the next batch of MUET students.
