IMPROVING SPEAKING SKILLS USING MODELLING STRATEGY

ABSTRACT

This action research aimed to improve speaking skill among the 10 students from Form 5 Dynamic in
SMK Baru Miri. The study was conducted a treatment with the use of Modeling System in improving
speaking skills for part 1 and 2 individual presentation of Paper 4 SPM (CEFR). It took a period pre and
post evaluation and 4 practices. In each practice, teacher will utalise models to encourage and enhance
student’s confidence and command of the language, thus facilitate them in their speaking. At the end,
they received constructive comments to improve their individual confidence and command in the
language. The findings indicated that modeling has helped the students to improve their confidence
level, fear to make mistake and anxiety in their speaking skills. The implication of this treatment may be
extended to part 3 of the Paper 4 SPM and the other form 5 classes.

IMPROVING YEAR 3 PUPILS’ ENGLISH VOCABULARY BY USING VARIOUS ONLINE
LEARNING PLATFORM

ABSTRACT

Vocabulary learning is an important and indispensable part of any language learning process. This
action research aimed to review the effectiveness of online learning using various platforms in order to
improve pupils’ vocabulary. The study involved a total of 11 students from a year 3 class in a primary
school in Miri, Sarawak. This study uses a combination of the mixed method; which involves quantitative
and qualitative data. Quantitative data were obtained from students’ spelling scores before and after
the usage of online learning platforms. While formal interviews and classroom observations are used
to obtain qualitative data. Several Year 3 pupils were interviewed to provide their responses to this
research. The usage of various learning platforms has a positive effect on pupils’ achievement
compared to regular teaching. Overall, the results of the study found that the use of these online
platforms in teaching and learning is more effective. Learning vocabulary in the classroom becomes
fun, the class is more alive. Pupils feel enthusiastic about conducting their class activities.

SOFTWARE APPLICATION FACILITATES WRITING SKILLS DURING MUET GOOGLE

ABSTRACT

Writing concluding paragraph is prominently seen as difficult and challenging for sixth formers during
Malaysian University English Test (MUET) lessons in school. Students’ sheer lacks of general
knowledge and writing strategies have catalysed their inability and incompetence to only produce ‘Sijil
Pelajaran Malaysia’ (SPM) standard of essays in MUET extended writing. Accordingly, self-revised
‘Summary’ approach was aimed to improve concluding paragraph writing, highlighting on-the-spot
correction via Microsoft Word Software Application during MUET Google Meet lessons in this
study. This action research involved three students of S.M.K. Chung Hua Miri, Sarawak. Data were
collected through observations, tests, interventions and survey questionnaires (adopted and adapted
from Clarkson, C.P., 2008) in twenty-three schooldays. Students’ improvement in concluding
paragraph writing showed that ‘Summary’ strategy cum on-the-spot correction via Microsoft Word
Software Application enhances level of concluding paragraph writing in MUET extended
essay. Evidently on-the spot correction encourages students to progress by recognizing, correcting
and analyzing mistakes, and thereafter a greater understanding of their own mistakes. It helps students
reflect on their own language use, and be more critical of their writing. Though time-consuming, it makes
lessons more relevant and fun (Clarkson, 2008). Microsoft Word Software Application enables students
to highlight, underline and correct mistakes in different colours or fonts, and do many more other
functions spontaneously during MUET Google Meet lessons. It also enables students to compare and
contrast their writing before and after amendment (Wikipedia Dictionary). Future endeavours should
compare these findings with similar predictors and criterion in other areas.

THE USE OF 4SP TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE YEAR 5 PUPILS’ WRITING SKILLS

ABSTRACT

This action research is implemented to improve pupils’ writing and interest to learn writing skills using
the step-by-step 4SP technique in the intervention. This action research involved 15 pupils. The 4SP
technique was introduced in the intervention which emphasizes on drafting of ideas to write sentences
and paragraphs using the technique in the early stage of writing development and developing their
writing skills from word level to sentence level. Based on the preliminary data, it is found that the pupils’
had problems with connecting the sentences in the paragraphs that made their write up unclear.
Meanwhile, according to the observation during the online face-to-face online interactions, the pupils
tried their best to use the technique and based on the comparison of their performances in Test 1 and
Test 2, the pupils’ performances show some improvement in their writing. This intervention is found
effective to improve the pupils’ writing skills. For future research, it’s suggested that teachers can
explore the technique with other format of writing and tenses to expand their pupils’ writing skills.

ABSTRACT

This paper attempts to reveal the complexities involved in the effectiveness of cooperative learning
group in Home Based Learning (PdPR) to improve reading (word recognition) for lower primary school
pupils. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a dramatic loss of human life worldwide and presents an
unprecedented challenge to public health, food systems and the world of work. Education is no
exception. Students from privileged backgrounds, supported by their parents and eager can learn. They
could find their way past closed school doors to alternative learning opportunities. Those from
disadvantaged backgrounds often remained shut out when their schools shut down. This paper reveals
that the cooperative group work during this trying period of pandemic crisis is far more effective by
putting pupils into groups than letting them work on their own. It also suggests that when full cooperative
structure is implemented, the benefits in pupils’ achievement often can be astounding. To achieve this,
one of the important skills that provokes life-long learning and acts as a communication tool is reading
skills. As we move closer to the goal of equipping pupils to better English education for all children
within this Covid 19 crisis, increasing amounts of attention and energy are being devoted to developing
pedagogical approaches in Home-Based Learning (PdPR).

THE USE OF SVA TABLE METHOD TO ENHANCE PUPILS’ SKILL IN WRITING SIMPLE
SENTENCES

ABSTRACT

Writing is one of the important skills for the pupils at school. However, English language writing will be
the challenges by the pupils to master. Therefore, the present study was conducted to improve the
pupils’ writing skill especially in writing simple sentences. It also aimed to determine the effectiveness
of SVA Table Method to enhance pupils’ interest in writing simple sentences. In this study, focus group
of 15 form two pupils were conducted to identify the problems in their writing through pre-test and post-
test. The findings shown the major problems faced by the pupils which were having limited vocabulary,
the pupils unable to understand the grammar rules and lack of confidence among the pupils. The study
findings help the teachers to improve their teaching method and help the pupils to enhance their writing
and avoid making mistakes in subject-verb agreement in their sentences.

USING NEARPOD TO ENHANCE ENGAGEMENT AMONG YEAR 4 PUPILS TOWARDS
HOME-BASED TEACHING AND LEARNING IN ENGLISH

ABSTRACT

In this action research (AR), I intend to explore how Nearpod helps enhance engagement among Year
4 pupils towards home-based teaching and learning (Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran di Rumah, PdPR)
in English. Observation earlier revealed that pupils’ engagement is one of the biggest challenges during
home-based teaching and learning. In order to improve their engagement towards learning English
through Google Meet, I decided to use Nearpod as an interactive tool. Therefore, I included features in
Nearpod such as Collaborate Board, Draw It, Time-to-climb, Matching Pairs and Memory Game in my
lessons. Throughout Module 3 to Module 7 in Year 4 Get Smart Plus Textbook, observation and
document analysis are used to obtain my research data. The findings indicated positive changes in
pupils’ engagement and hence improved their performance in English.

USING ‘SCATTERED LETTERS’ TO IMPROVE SPELLING SKILLS AMONG YEAR 1
PUPILS

ABSTRACT

The action research was conducted in one of rural schools in Miri, Sarawak. The purpose of this action
research was to improve my practice in the teaching of English words spelling and helped pupils to
improve their spelling skills through Scattered Letters. Scattered Letters is a language game where the
players have to rearrange the letters to make a meaningful word. Twelve research participants were
involved in this research. They were Year 1 pupils of 3 with good proficiency, 4 with average proficiency
and 5 with low proficiency in English language. At the end of action research, 9 out of 12 participants
showed improvement in their spelling skills. Research participants did not take an active role in the
selection of spelling words as the selection of spelling words was mainly done by the researcher based
on sight words in the textbook. Exploration and integration on the role of a trained peer tutor or ‘spelling
buddy’ in improving spelling skills among pupils can be done in the future as well as the application of
technology.

ABSTRAK

Bahasa Inggeris merupakan bahasa perantaraan di seluruh dunia dan bahasa kedua di kebanyakan
negara. Kesedaran terhadap pentingnya penguasaan bahasa Inggeris dalam kalangan murid, maka
kajian tindakan ini adalah bertujuan untuk memantapkan lagi penguasaan asas grammar. Kebanyakan
murid kurang jelas terhadap penulisan ayat mudah bahasa Inggeris dengan betul. Wheel of Colours
diperkenalkan dalam asas grammar Verb to Be dan secara tidak langsung melibatkan penggunaan
Adjectives berdasarkan Sukatan Pelajaran Tahun 5. Wheel of Colours membantu murid menyelesaikan
masalah asas grammar dengan menggunakan teknik pusingan roda. Wheel of Colours dibahagikan
kepada dua iaitu Verb to Be (singular) dan Verb to Be (plural). Kajian ini melibatkan sebanyak 18 orang
murid dari SK Bukit Wan, Kuala Nerus, Terengganu. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kuantitatif dan
data tersebut diperoleh daripada markah murid berdasarkan kepada ujian pra dan pos. Hasil dari
analisis tinjauan awal menunjukkan hanya 4 orang (22%) memahami pembinaan ayat mudah dengan
cepat manakala 14 orang (78%) kurang memahami pembinaan ayat mudah dengan cepat. Selepas
diperkenalkan Wheel of Colours, dapatan kajian menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan pencapaian murid
16 orang (89%) dapat memahami pembinaan ayat mudah dengan cepat dan 2 orang (11%) kurang
memahami pembinaan ayat mudah. Secara keseluruhan, murid dapat menguasai pembelajaran
grammar dengan lebih baik selepas penggunaan Wheel of Colours. Wheel of Colours berpotensi dalam
menarik minat pelajar selain meningkatkan pencapaian dalam bahasa Inggeris.

‘WHEEL OF COLOURS’
IMPROVING THE BASIC SKILLS OF PUPILS IN BUILDING SIMPLE SENTENCES

THROUGH LEARNING GRAMMAR IN ENGLISH

ABSTRACT

English is a worldwide intermediate language, and most countries use it as the second language.
Awareness of the importance of English language proficiency among students is crucial. Therefore, this
action study aims to strengthen the essential grammar mastery further. Most pupils are unclear on
writing simple sentences in English correctly. Wheel of Colours was introduced in the grammar base
verb to Be and indirectly involved the use of Adjectives based on the Year 5 Syllabus. Wheel of Colours
helps pupils to solve basic grammar problems using the spinning wheel technique. Wheel Of Colours
is divided into two which are Verb to Be (Singular) and Verb to Be (Plural). This study involves 18 pupils
from SK Bukit Wan, Kuala Nerus, Terengganu. This study also uses quantitative method, and the data
were obtained from the pupils’ marks based on the pre and postal tests. The results from the early
review analysis shows that only 4 people (22%) understand simple sentence construction quickly while
14 people (78%) lack of understanding with constructing simple sentences quickly. Ever since the
Wheel of Colours was introduced, the findings show that there was an increase in the achievement of
the pupils. 16 people (89%) can understand simple sentence construction quickly and 2 people (11%)
are still unclear with understanding the constructing simple sentences quickly. Overall, pupils were able
to better master grammar learning after the use of Wheel of Colours. Wheel of Colours has the potential
to attract students in addition to improving attainment in English.

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan bahasa klasik pelajar bagi prosa tradisional
menerusi kaedah grafik yang digunakan sebagai aktiviti dalam kelas. Sampel kajian melibatkan
seramai 15 orang pelajar di dalam kelas 6 Bawah Tekun. Tinjauan awal telah dibuat melalui ujian 1
yang diberikan menunjukkan pelajar gagal menjawab soalan disebabkan tidak memahami bahasa
klasik yang terdapat pada prosa tradisional. Kajian tindakan ini berfokus kepada meningkatkan
penguasaan bahasa klasik pelajar bagi teks prosa tradisional. Justeru, pelajar telah diterapkan dengan
pendekatan pembelajaran secara grafik sebagai usaha meningkatkan penguasaan bahasa klasik.
Keputusan ujian pos telah menunjukkan peningkatan prestasi pelajar. Melalui kaedah grafik ini pelajar
dapat menggabungjalinkan kemahiran kognitif, afektif dan psikomoto mereka menerusi penghasilan
lukisan grafik dan memindahkan bahasa klasik kepada bahasa yang mudah difahami oleh pelajar.
Tuntasnya, hasil dapatan telah menunjukkan bahawa tahap penguasaan bahasa klasik pelajar telah
meningkat dan sekaligus mencapai objektif kajian yang disasarkan.

LUKISANKU IMAGINASIKU ACTIVITY AS A METHOD OF IMPROVING CLASSICAL
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY IN TRADITIONAL PROSE HIKAYAT PELANDUK JENAKA

AMONG STUDENTS OF 6 UNDER TEKUN

ABSTRACT

This study is aimed to improve students' classical language proficiency for traditional prose through
graphic methods used as in-class activities. Sample of the study involves 15 pupils under 6 Bawah
Tekun class. Preliminary surveys were conducted through test 1 which showed that students failed to
answer questions due to lack of understanding of the classical language found in traditional prose. This
study focuses on improving students’ classical language proficiency for traditional pose texts. Thus,
students have been applied with a graphical learning approach as an effort to improve their classical
language proficiency. Postal test results have shown the improvement in the students’ performance.
Through this graphic method, students can combine their cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills
through the production of graphic drawings and transfer the classical language to a language that is
easy for students to understand. In conclusion, the findings have shown that the level of classical
language proficiency of students has increased and achieved the objectives of the targeted study.

Kajian tindakan yang dijalankan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualiti dan peratus Tahap
Penguasaan (TP) murid dalam Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah (PBD) bagi matapelajaran Bahasa Inggeris.
Kajian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengkaji sejauh manakah keberkesanan Pelan Intervensi Lima Langkah
(PILL) yang digunapakai oleh semua panitia di Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulau Melayu, Miri. Kajian ini juga
untuk melihat akan kesediaan penerimaan murid-murid terhadap perubahan kaedah sesi Pengajaran
dan Pembelajaran (PdP) yang dijalankan dengan berstruktur dan terancang secara atas talian, luar
talian dan juga secara off-side yang kini dilaksanakan di rumah atau pusat komuniti atau mana-mana
lokasi yang bersesuaian secara optimum yang dikenali sebagai Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran di
Rumah (PdPR). Kumpulan sasaran kajian terdiri daripada 41 orang murid daripada Tahun 2 hingga
Tahun 5 yang belum mencapai TP3 dalam PDB. Tinjauan awal telah dilaksanakan berdasarkan analisis
PBD oleh guru-guru Bahasa Inggeris sepanjang PdPC dan PdPR dijalankan. Kajian ini juga mengambil
kira latar belakang sosial murid yang menjadi faktor murid belum mencapai TP minimum. Analisis
daripada PBD yang telah dijalankan menunjukkan bahawa terdapat peningkatan dalam bilangan murid
yang telah menguasai TP minimum. Berdasarkan maklum balas dari ibu bapa/ penjaga juga
menyatakan bahawa kaedah yang digunakan memudahkan mereka untuk membimbing anak-anak
dalam menjalani PdPR seterusnya meningkatkan TP anak-anak dalam matapelajaran Bahasa Inggeris.

APPLICATION OF FIVE STEP INTERVENTION PLAN (PILL) IN IMPROVING QUALITY
AND PERCENTAGELEVEL OF STUDENT COMPETENCE IN PBD ENGLISH

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this action research is to improve the quality and percentage of students who achieve
Mastery Level (TP) in Classroom Assessment (PBD) for English subjects. This study also aims to
investigate the extent to which the Five Step Intervention Plan (PILL) used by all committees at Sekolah
Kebangsaan Pulau Melayu, Miri is effective. This study will also look at the students' readiness to accept
changes in the method of teaching sessions and Learning (PdP) conducted in a structured and planned
online, offline, as well as off-side that is currently implemented at home or community centres or any
location that is optimally suited known as Home Teaching and Learning (PdPR). The study's target
group consisted of 41 students from Year 2 to Year 5 who had not yet reached TP3 in GDP. English
teachers conducted preliminary surveys based on PBD analysis throughout the PdPC and PdPR. The
study also considered the social background of students who are a factor of students who have not met
the minimum TP. According to PBD analysis, there has been an increase in the number of students
who have mastered the minimum TP. According to feedback from parents/guardians, the methods used
make it easier for them to guide their children in undergoing PdPR, thereby improving children's TP in
English subjects.

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk membantu murid-murid lemah dalam menguasai perbezaan di antara Alif
Lam Qamariah dan Alif Lam Syamsiah bagi mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab Tahun 4. Seramai 5 orang
murid dan seorang guru terlibat dalam kajian ini. Saya memfokuskan kepada kaedah membaca dan
menulis Alif Lam Qamariah dan Alif Lam Syamsiah di dalam ejaan. Tinjauan awal yang dibuat melalui
ujian pengesanan menunjukkan murid kurang peka terhadap perbezaan Alif Lam Qamariah dan Alif
Lam Syamsiah yang betul mengikut jenis. Oleh itu, saya telah menggunakan Nyanyian lagu huruh
syamsiah dan kemahiran cara membaca. Saya telah menjalankan langkah- langkah dirancang didapati
penguasaan murid untuk megenalpasti perkataan yang bermula dengan Alif Lam Qamariah dan Alif
Lam Syamsiah lebih bagus.

WAYS TO READ AILF LAM QAMARIAH AND ALIF LAM SYAMSIAH FOR YEAR 4
CEMERLANG STUDENTS

ABSTRACT
This study aims to assist students who are struggling to understand the differences between Alif Lam
Qamariah and Alif Lam Syamsiah for Arabic Year 4. The research involved five students and one
teacher. In spelling, I concentrate on the Alif Lam Qamariah and Alif Lam Syamsiah reading and writing
methods. Preliminary testing detection surveys revealed that students were less sensitive to the
differences between Alif Lam Qamariah and Alif Lam Qamariah. The correct syamsiah according to
type. Therefore, I have used Singing the song huruh syamsiah and reading skills. I have carried out
planned measures found mastery students to identify words that begin with Alif Lam Qamariah and Alif
Lam Syamsiah better.

ABSTRAK

Kajian Tindakan ini dijalankan untuk mengkaji keberkesanan penggunaa kaedah Main Peranan dalam
meningkatkan Kemahiran Bertutur murid Tahun Tiga. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan
Kemahiran Pertuturan dan minat dalam mempelajari Pertuturan Bahasa Cina. Responden kajian ini
terdiri daripada sepuluh orang murid Tahun Tiga di sebuah sekolah jenis kebangsaan di Miri. Tinjauan
awal dijalankan melalui pemerhatian dan maklum balas semasa google meet serta soal selidik dalam
bentuk google form untuk mengenal pasti punca kelemahan. Kaedah yang digunakan untuk
mengumpul data kajian adalah pemerhatian, soal selidik dan analisis dokumen. Hasil dapatan
menunjukkan bahawa penggunaan kaedah Main Peranan ini Berjaya meningkatkan minat murid dalam
mempelajari Pertuturan Bahasa Cina. Penggunaan kaedah Main Peranan turut memberi kesan positif
dalam meningkatkan penguasaan murid dalam kemahiran bertutur Bahasa Cina. Suasana
pembelajaran yang aktif dan respon murid telah dipertingkatkan melalui penggunaan kaedah main
Peranan. Saya mencadangkan kaedah Main Peranan ini boleh dijalankan dengan guru boleh memberi
gambar dan minta murid mencipta perbualan sendiri berdasarkan situasi dalam gambar. Selain itu, itu
saya juga mencadangkan pengunaan Peta Buih untuk membimbing murid mencipta perbualan sendiri.

ROLE PLAYING METHODS CAN IMPROVE CHINESE SPEECH SKILLS IN
YEAR 3 STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

This Action Research was conducted to examine the effectiveness of the use of the Role Play method
in improving the Speaking Skills of Year Three students. This study aims to improve speech skills and
interest in learning Chinese Spoken Language. Respondents of this study consists of ten Year Three
students at a national type school in Miri. To identify the cause of the weakness, an initial review was
conducted using observations and feedback from a Google meet, as well as deep questionnaires from
a Google form. Observations, questionnaires, and document analysis were used to collect study data.
The findings show that using this Role Play method increases students' interest in learning Chinese
Spoken. The Role Play method has also been shown to improve students' proficiency in Chinese
speaking skills. The use of the made the learning environment more active and increased pupil
response. I Role Play method suggests that the teacher can give students a picture and ask them to
create their own conversation based on the situation in the picture. Furthermore, I propose using Bubble
Maps to guide students in creating their own conversations.

ABSTRAK

Kajian tindakan yang dijalankan oleh guru ini adalah bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan
perbendaharaan kata Bahasa Cina sepanjang PDPR. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji sejauh
manakah keberkesanan pendekatan induktif yang digunakan oleh guru dalam penguasaan
perbendaharaan kata Bahasa Cina dalam kalangan murid Tahun 6 bagi mencapai objektif
pembelajaran berpandukan DSKP Bahasa Cina. Seramai 8 orang murid yang terlibat dalam kajian ini.
Kajian ini berfokus kepada perbendaharaan kata dalam petikan yang terdapat dalam buku teks Bahasa
Cina Tahun 6. Kumpulan sasaran didapati tidak memahami isi kandungan petikan yang dipelajari.
Program Saya Faham Saya Pandai dirancang dan dilaksanakan untuk membantu kumpulan sasaran
dalam kajian tindakan ini. Dapatan kajian ini menunjukkan bahawa pendekatan induktif membawa
keberkesanan kepada peningkatan penguasaan perbendaharaan kata Bahasa Cina dalam kalangan
murid sasaran. Selain itu, terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan antara markah pencapaian murid
sebelum dan selepas Program Saya Faham Saya Pandai. Hal ini menunjukkan bahawa pendekatan
induktif menyumbang kepada peningkatan pencapaian murid sasaran dan juga penguasaan murid
sasaran dalam perbendaharaan kata Bahasa Cina.

EFFECTIVENESS OF INDUCTIVE APPROACH IN IMPROVING TREASURY CONTROL
CHINESE WORDS THROUGHOUT PDPR

ABSTRACT

These teachers' action research aims to improve the mastery of Chinese vocabulary throughout the
PDPR. The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which the inductive approach used by
teachers in vocabulary mastery Chinese language among Year 6 students to achieve learning
objectives based on DSKP Chinese language is effective. This study included a total of eight students.
This study focuses on vocabulary in passages from the Year 6 Chinese textbook. The target group was
discovered not to understand the content of the passages studied. Cleverly planned and implemented
programme I Understand Me to assist the target group in this action research. The findings of this study
indicate that the inductive approach is effective in increasing target students' mastery of Chinese
vocabulary. Furthermore, there was a significant difference in student achievement scores before and
after the My Program Understand I'm Smart intervention. This suggests that the inductive approach
improves target student achievement as well as target student mastery of Chinese vocabulary.

ABSTRAK

Kajian ini dijalankan bertujuan untuk mengkaji kesan kehadiran murid dalam PdPR terhadap keputusan
tahap penguasaan PBD Bahasa Melayu kalangan murid tahun 3 Amanah. Seramai 23 orang murid
terlibat dalam kajian ini. Tinjauan awal diambil berdasarkan keputusan PBD Bahasa Melayu pada bulan
Jun 2021. Kami dapati seramai 8 orang masih belum mencapai tahap minima PBD iaitu masih dibawah
TP3. Setelah diteliti, ramai daripadanya kurang terlibat dalam sesi Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran di
Rumah (PdPR). Malah, 2 orang daripada murid tersebut langsung tidak terlibat dalam sesi PdPR yang
dijalankan. Justeru itu, kami menjalankan kajian ini bagi melihat kesan kehadiran murid terhadap tahap
penguasaan PBD murid kelas 3 Amanah.

EFFECTS OF STUDENT ATTENDANCE ON THE LEVEL OF COMPETENCE OF
CLASSROOM -BASED ASSESSMENT (PBD) MALAY LANGUAGE AMONG YEAR 3

STUDENTS AMANAH

ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to examine the effect of student attendance in PdPR on the results the level
of proficiency in PBD Bahasa Melayu among year 3 Amanah students. A total of 23 students involved
in this study. The preliminary survey was conducted based on the Malay Language PBD results for the
month of June 2021. We discovered that 8 people have not yet reached the minimum level of PBD,
which is still lower than TP3. Many of them are less involved in the Teaching and Learning sessions at
House, according to an examination (PdPR). In fact, two of the students were not even present during
the PdPR session. As a result, we conducted this research to determine the impact of student
attendance on the level of mastery of PBD students of Year 3 Amanah.

PENGGANDAAN PENGGUNAAN AYAT TANYA SONGSANG TERBAHAGI

MENERUSI KAEDAH JADUAL Pre-kahSuKat

Kajian ini dijalankan dengan menggunakan Jadual Pre-kahSuKat bagi membantu meningkatkan
penggunaan ayat tanya songsang terbahagi dalam kalangan murid tahun empat. Responden yang
terlibat terdiri daripada lapan orang murid tahun empat yang menghadapi masalah dalam membina
ayat tanya songsang terbahagi dengan betulnya. Pengkaji menggunakan Model Penyelidikan Tindakan
Lewin (1946) dan Laidlaw (1992) sebagai panduan untuk kajian ini. Berdasarkan model ini, kajian
tindakan terdiri daripada lima peringkat, iaitu yang pertama mengenal pasti aspek amalan, kedua
membuat perancangan, ketiga membuat tindakan, keempat melihat kesan tindakan dan peringkat akhir
adalah untuk membuat refleksi selepas kajian dilakukan. Murid telah menjalani tiga intervensi dan
menggunakan Jadual Pre-kahSuKat sepanjang intervensi bagi membantu murid membina ayat tanya
songsang terbahagi dengan betulnya. Responden telah menjalani ujian pos setelah selesai menjalani
ketiga-tiga intervensi bagi menilai hasil pencapaian murid. Hasil analisis data mendapati bahawa
responden menunjukkan peningkatan markah yang ketara dalam ujian pasca berbanding dengan ujian
pra. Keputusan yang diperoleh semasa menjalankan ketiga-tiga intervensi juga menunjukkan
keputusan yang cemerlang dan membuktikan keberkesanan kaedah Jadual Pre-kahSuKat dalam
meningkatkan penggunaan ayat tanya songsang terbahagi dalam kalangan murid. Data kajian
diperoleh menerusi kaedah pemerhatian, soal selidik, analisis dokumen dan ujian pra dan pos. Dapatan
kajian menunjukkan responden berjaya meningkatkan penggunaan ayat tanya songsang terbahagi.
Hasil kajian ini diharapkan dapat dijadikan panduan oleh guru Bahasa Melayu di seluruh Malaysia.

MULTIPLICATION USING INVERSE QUESTION SENTENCES DIVIDED BY THE
PRE-KAHSUKAT TABLE METHOD

ABSTRACT

The Pre-kahSuKat Table was used in this study to help Year 4 students improve their use of divided
inverse question sentences. The participants were eight Year 4 students who struggled to construct
correctly divided inverse question sentences. This study was guided by the Action Research Model of
Lewin (1946) and Laidlaw (1992). According to this model, the action research has five stages. First is
identifying aspects of practise, the second is planning, the third is taking action, the fourth is observing
the effects of action, and the final stage is reflecting after the study is completed. The Pre-KahSuKat
Table was used throughout the intervention to assist students in constructing correctly divided inverse
question sentences. Following completion of all three interventions, respondents were given a postal
test to assess student achievement. The data analysis revealed that the respondents' post-test scores
increased significantly when compared to the pre-test. The results obtained during the three
interventions were also excellent, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Pre-kahSuKat Table method
in improving students' use of inverse divided question sentences. Data for the study were gathered
through observation, questionnaires, document analysis, and pre and post tests. The study's findings
revealed that respondents were able to increase their use of divided inverse question sentences. The
findings of this study will be used as a guide by Malay language teachers throughout Malaysia.

Kajian Tindakan ini dijalankan untuk memperkenalkan teknik “Si BuDi” dalam pembinaan ayat. Objektif
kajian ini untuk meningkatkan kemahiran membina ayat gramatis dalam kalangan murid tahun 2 Bestari
dan meningkatkan kefahaman murid tentang pembinaan struktur ayat yang betul. Pengkaji melibatkan
responden seramai 10 orang murid dari kelas 2 Bestari di Sk Kampung Bakam, Miri. Kajian ini
dijalankan menggunakan kaedah pemerhatian, temu bual dan ujian pra. Hasil analisis data didapati
100% murid dapat menggunakan teknik “Si BuDi” untuk membina ayat gramatis dalam kalangan murid
tahun 2 Bestari. Keputusan ujian pos menunjukkan murid berjaya membina ayat gramatis
menggunakan teknik tersebut. Hasil dapatan ini jelas menunjukkan teknik yang diperkenalkan sesuai
untuk diaplikasikan di sekolah pada masa akan datang. Justeru, pengkaji mencadangkan agar teknik
ini dapat digunakan untuk murid-murid tahap 2 dan teknik ini juga boleh dikembangkan lagi seperti
menambah akronim pada teknik tersebut.

USING THE "Si BuDi" TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE GRAMMATICAL SENTENCE
BUILDING SKILLS AMONG CLASS 2 SMART STUDENTS

ABSTRACT
This action study was done to introduce “Si BuDi” technique in forming sentences. The objective of this
research is to improve the skills in forming grammatical sentences among Year 2 Bestari students and
improve their understanding in forming the correct sentences. Researcher included 10 students of class
2 Bestari at SK Kampung Bakam, Miri as respondents. The study was done by using observation,
interviews, and pre-test. The results of the data analysis showed that 100% of the students among Year
2 Bestari are able to use the “Si BuDi” technique to form grammatical sentences. The results of the post
test showed that the students successfully constructed grammatical sentences using the technique.
The results of these findings clearly indicate that the techniques introduced are suitable to be applied
in school in the future. Thus, researchers suggest that this technique can be used for level 2 pupils and
this technique can also be further developed such as adding acronyms on the technique.

MENINGKATKAN KEMAHIRAN MEMBACA DENGAN KAEDAH “STEP BY STEP
READING (COMMON SIGHT WORDS)” DALAM KALANGAN MURID TAHUN 1 BESTARI

Kajian ini saya laksanakan untuk mencari jalan penyelesaian terhadap masalah dan rintangan yang
dihadapi oleh murid Tahun 1 Bestari dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran terutamanya bagi kemahiran
membaca. Tinjauan awal telah dilaksanakan melalui pemerhatian, ujian pra dan soal selidik terhadap
penguasaan kemahiran membaca murid. Hasil tinjauan menunjukkan masih terdapat ramai murid yang
belum boleh membaca frasa dan ayat mudah dengan betul. Bahkan mereka tidak memahami apa yang
dibaca. Penguasaan murid terhadap kemahiran membaca adalah sangat penting kerana jika murid
tidak boleh membaca maka murid tidak akan dapat memahami kandungan dalam sesuatu frasa atau
ayat dan masalah ini seterusnya akan menjejaskan kemahiran menulis murid. Untuk mengatasi
masalah yang dihadapi oleh murid tahun 1 Bestari dalam penguasaan kemahiran membaca Bahasa
Inggeris, saya mengaplikasikan penggunaan “Common Sight Words” dalam kemahiran membaca dan
saya menggunakan kaedah “Step by Step Reading”. Seramai 35 orang murid Tahun 1 Bestari yang
terlibat dalam kajian ini dan 12 bahan bacaan yang mengandungi frasa dan ayat mudah serta “common
sight words” digunakan dalam kajian ini dan dilaksanakan dalam tempoh tiga bulan. Aktiviti “Step by
Step Reading” dilaksanakan selama 5-10 minit sebelum bermula pengajaran dan pembelajaran setiap
hari Isnin, Khamis dan Jumaat dengan mengunakan satu bahan untuk satu minggu atau bergantung
kepada tahap penguasaan kemahiran membaca murid. Keputusan ujian pos dan peningkatan dalam
Tahap Penguasaan (TP) murid dalam Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah (PBD) pada akhir tahun telah
menunjukkan bahawa kaedah ini dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kemahiran membaca murid.
Kaedah ini perlu diteruskan dan penggunaan common sight words yang berfrekuensi tinggi di tambah
dalam bahan bacaan.

IMPROVE READING SKILLS BY USING ‘STEP BY STEP READING (COMMON SIGHT
WORDS) METHOD AMONG YEAR 1 BESTARI PUPILS

ABSTRACT

I conducted this study to find solutions to the problems and obstacles faced by Year 1 Bestari students
in teaching and learning, especially for reading skills. Preliminary surveys were conducted through
observations, pre-tests and questionnaires on pupils' reading skills. The results of the survey show that
there are still many pupils who are unable to read simple phrases and sentences correctly, as well as
understanding what is being read. Pupils' mastery of reading skills is essential because if they cannot
read, they would not be able to understand the content of a phrase or sentence, which will affect their
writing skills. To overcome the difficulties that Year 1 Bestari pupils had in mastering English reading
skills, I used "Common Sight Words" in reading skills and the "Step by Step Reading" method. A total
of 35 Year 1 Bestari pupils were involved in this study and 12 reading materials containing simple
phrases and sentences as well as "common sight words" were used in this study and implemented
within three months. The "Step by Step Reading" activity is implemented for 5-10 minutes before the
start of teaching and learning every Monday, Thursday and Friday by using one material for one week
or depending on the level of mastery of pupils' reading skills. Post-test results and an increase in
students' Mastery Level (TP) in Classroom Assessment (PBD) at the end of the year demonstrated that
this method can improve students' mastery of reading skills. This method should be continued, and high
frequency common sight words should be included in the reading material.

MENINGKATKAN KEBOLEHAN MENGGUNAKAN HURUF BESAR MELALUI KAEDAH

Penyelidikan tindakan ini dilaksanakan untuk meningkatkan kebolehan menggunakan huruf besar
melalui kaedah WaHuB lampu isyarat dalam kalangan murid pendidikan khas masalah pembelajaran
Tahun 4. Analisis data awal kajian telah menunjukkan murid lemah dalam kebolehan menggunakan
huruf besar. Bagi mengatasi masalah ini, kaedah WaHuB lampu isyarat telah dicipta bagi meningkatkan
kebolehan murid menggunakan huruf besar. Warna- warna yang digunakan bagi mewakili huruf besar
adalah berasaskan warna yang terdapat pada lampu isyarat iaitu merah, kuning dan hijau.
Pengumpulan data diperoleh melalui ujian pra dan ujian pasca, pemerhatian dan analisis dokumen.
Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa kaedah WaHuB lampu isyarat membantu murid meningkatkan
kebolehan menggunakan huruf besar pada permulaaan ayat, selepas noktah dan kata nama khas.
Untuk kajian yang seterusnya, pengkaji mencadangkan untuk melakukan penekanan terhadap
penggunaan huruf besar pada kata nama khas, mempelbagaikan aktiviti pengajaran huruf besar,
mempelbagaikan bahan bantu mengajar dan melaksanakan pengintegrasian TMK dalam pengajaran
kaedah WaHub lampu isyarat.

IMPROVE THE ABILITY OF USING CAPITAL LETTERS BY USING ‘WaHub TRAFFIC
LIGHT’ METHOD AMONG SPECIAL EDUCATION PUPILS WITH LEARNING
DIFFICULTIES

ABSTRACT

This action research was implemented to improve the ability to use capital letters through WaHuB traffic
light method among Year 4. special education students with learning difficulties The study's preliminary
data analysis revealed that students have a limited ability to use capital letters. To address this issue,
the WaHuB traffic light method was developed to help students improve their ability to use capital letters.
The colors used to represent capital letters are based on the colors found on traffic lights, namely red,
yellow and green. Data was gathered through pre- and post-testing, observation, and document
analysis. The study's findings show that using the WaHuB traffic light method helps students improve
their ability to use capital letters at the beginning of sentences, after periods, and after special nouns.
For the next study, the researcher proposed to place emphasis on the use of capital letters on special
nouns, diversify capital letter teaching activities, diversify teaching aids and implement ICT integration
in teaching traffic light WaHub method.

Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah bagi mata pelajaran Bahasa Melayu memerlukan murid untuk
menguasai kemahiran menulis. Kemahiran menulis ini akan diuji dalam kertas 1 Bahasa Melayu iaitu
murid perlu menulis karangan respons terhad. Aspek kemahiran menulis ini masih menjadi masalah
dalam kalangan murid. Roselan (2003) menyatakan bahawa kemahiran menulis merupakan kemahiran
yang melibatkan proses literasi yang kompleks dan kognisi yang tinggi menyebabkan pelajar sukar
mempelajarinya. Walau bagaimanapun, Zamri dan Mohamed Amin (2003) menegaskan bahawa
kepelbagaian strategi pembelajaran boleh meningkatkan kemahiran dalam menulis. Oleh itu, kajian ini
dijalankan untuk membantu murid menulis karangan respons terhad dengan menggunakan teknik
penulisan AMCP. Kajian ini dijalankan terhadap lima orang sampel kajian yang terdiri daripada murid
tingkatan 4 Melati. Kajian ini dijalankan untuk membantu murid menulis karangan yang mantap agar
mereka dapat memperoleh markah yang baik dalam peperiksaan. Selain itu, kajian ini juga dijalankan
untuk membantu murid membuat karangan yang teratur dan tersusun agar memberikan impresi yang
baik kepada pemeriksa. Ujian Pra dan Ujian pos telah diberikan kepada murid. Hasil daripada kajian
yang dijalankan menunjukkan bahawa murid boleh menulis karangan respons terhad dengan baik
setelah didedahkan dengan teknik penulisan AMCP.

IMPROVE THE SKILLS OF WRITING SIMPLE ESSAYS USING AMCP TECHNIQUES
FOR MALAY LANGUAGE SUBJECTS IN CLASS 4 MELATI

ABSTRACT

The Standard Secondary School Curriculum for Malay language subjects requires students to master
writing skills. This writing ability will be tested in paper 1 Bahasa Melayu, in which students will be
required to write a limited response essay. This aspect of writing skills remains a challenge for students.
According to Roselan (2003), writing skills are complex literacy processes that are difficult for students
to learn because of their high cognition. However, Zamri and Mohamed Amin (2003) pointed out that a
variety of learning strategies can help students improve their writing skills. As a result, this study was
carried out to assist students in writing limited response essays using AMCP writing techniques. This
study was conducted on five Form 4 Melati students. This study was carried out to assist students in
writing strong essays in order to achieve high grades in exams. Furthermore, this study was conducted
to assist students in writing an organized and structured essay that will make a good impression on the
examiner. Students were given a pre-test and a post-test. The study's findings revealed that students
can write limited response essays well after being exposed to AMCP writing techniques.

Abstrak

Kajian ini merupakan sebuah kajian tindakan yang berorientasikan murid sekolah rendah Tahun 1.
Kajian ini dijalankan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan dan kefahaman murid TP 1 terhadap Bahasa
Inggeris melalui penggunaan muzik dalam pembelajaran dan pengajaran. Objektif kajian ini adalah
untuk membantu murid tahun 1 memahami dan mempelajari perkataan dan arahan mudah Bahasa
Inggeris dalam keadaan yang menyeronokkan dan bermakna melalui pendekatan belajar sambil
menyanyi. Sampel diambil daripada murid-murid Tahun 1 dari kelas 1D. Seramai 15 orang murid telah
dipilih. Tinjauan awal telah dilaksanakan berdasarkan latihan dalam kelas. Hasil daripada tinjauan
menunjukkan bahawa tahap penguasaan dan kefahaman murid terhadap Bahasa Inggeris sangat
lemah. Murid tidak dapat memahami arahan yang diberi dalam Bahasa Inggeris. Kajian ini juga
mengambil kira latar belakang prasekolah murid kerana murid yang tidak pernah menjalani pendidikan
prasekolah didapati sangat lemah dalam penguasaan Bahasa Inggeris. Pemerhatian, analisis dokumen
dan ujian pra serta ujian pos digunakan sebagai instrumen kajian. Pelbagai jenis muzik telah dipilih
bagi mengatasi masalah yang dihadapi murid dalam memahami ayat mudah Bahasa Inggeris. Dapatan
kajian menunjukkan penguasaan 100% murid dalam Bahasa Inggeris meningkat selepas intervensi
menggunakan kaedah belajar sambil menyanyi dijalankan berbanding sebelum intervensi. Ini
menunjukkan penggunaan kaedah belajar sambil menyanyi dapat membantu murid dalam
meningkatkan penguasaan dan kefahaman mereka terhadap subjek Bahasa Inggeris.

IMPROVING THE UNDERSTANDING AND REACTION OF TP 1 YEAR 1 STUDENTS
TOWARDS ENGLISH THROUGH THE USE OF MUSIC
IN LEARNING AND TEACHING

ABSTRACT

This is an action research study for primary school students in Year 1. This study was carried out to
improve TP 1 students' mastery and understanding of English through the use of music in learning and
teaching. The goal of this study was to assist year 1 students in understanding and learning simple
English words and instructions in a fun and meaningful way using a learning-while-singing approach.
Year 1 students from class 1D were sampled. There were a total of 15 students chosen. Based on
classroom training, preliminary surveys were conducted. The survey results show that students'
mastery and understanding of English is very low. Students are unable to comprehend instructions
given in English. The study also considered preschool students' backgrounds, because students who
had never received preschool education were found to have very low English proficiency.

Kajian ini dilakukan bagi mengatasi masalah penulisan karangan yang dihadapi oleh murid tingkatan 6
Baik dalam subtopik Pengajian Am. Seramai 12 orang pelajar yang terlibat dalam kajian ini. Tinjauan
awal dilaksanakan melalui kaedah pemerhatian dan analisis ke atas skrip jawapan pelajar. Hasil
tinjauan awal menunjukkan prestasi pelajar percubaan 1 semester 1 2020 kurang memuaskan. Ini
berpunca daripada kehilangan markah yang banyak dalam kesalahan memberikan isi penting dan
huraian yang kurang mantap untuk membentuk perenggan yang optimum. Perancangan tindakan
difokuskan kepada teknik “gallery walk” untuk meningkatkan penguasaan dan pemahaman pelajar
terhadap isu-isu karangan mengikut tema dalam sukatan pelajaran dan kajian ini telah diselesaikan
dalam tempoh 4 minggu. Keputusan pascaujian telah menunjukkan peningkatan prestasi murid.
Dapatan dari pemerhatian pula menunjukkan murid lebih antusias sepanjang pelaksaan aktiviti.

ACTION RESEARCH: IMPROVING GENERAL STUDY ESSAY WRITING SKILLS
COMPLETE BY USING GALERY WALK TECHNIQUES AMONG STUDENTS
FORM 6

ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to address the problem of essay writing in General Studies subtopics that
Form 6 students faced. This study included a total of 12 students. The review was initially carried out
using observation and analysis methods on student answer scripts. Early survey results revealed that
trial students' performance in semester 1 2020 was less than satisfactory. This stems from giving
important content and a description that is less robust to form an optimal paragraph rather than losing
many marks in an offence. The action plan focuses on the "gallery walk" technique to increase students'
mastery and understanding of issues essays by theme in the syllabus, and the study was completed in
four weeks. Students' performance improved following the post-test. Observational findings show that
students are more enthusiastic throughout the implementation of activities.

ABSTRAK

Subjek Bahasa Melayu merupakan subjek teras yang mesti diikuti oleh murid-murid. Sejak beberapa
tahun ini, pelbagai pendekatan dan kaedah yang diperkenalkan dalam dunia pendidikan. STEM
merupakan salah satunya yang amat popular diterapkan dalam PdP untuk melahirkan murid yang
berfikiran kritis dan kreatif. Tambahan pula, pembelajaran berasaskan projek amat gemar oleh murid-
murid kerana ianya melibatkan aktiviti Hands On, santai dan menarik. Berdasarkan ciri-ciri tersebut,
pendekatan Pemikiran Reka Bentuk Dalam Subjek Bahasa Melayu dicipta bagi menarik kembali minat
murid terhadap subjek Bahasa Melayu. Tambahan pula, pendekatan ini juga merupakan satu platform
untuk murid-murid menghasil atau mencipta inovasi berdasarkan isu. Uniknya pendekatan ini kerana
ianya melibatkan kemahiran berfikir aras tinggi murid dalam menyelesaikan isu yang dibincang.
Memandangkan Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah menjadi medium utama dalam pentaksiran kepada murid-
murid, pendekatan ini amat sesuai diterapkan kerana pendekatan ini membantu murid-murid untuk
berfikir dengan lebih kritis dan kreatif di samping membentuk murid yang aktif sewaktu PdP. Kesannya,
guru dapat memberi TP berdasarkan hasil yang diberi. Pendekatan ini juga amat sesuai digunakan
sewaktu PdPr. Banyak impak yang dapat dilihat apabila murid-murid menggunakan pendekatan ini.
Murid yang pasif menjadi aktif dan murid yang pendiam menjadi murid yang paling banyak memberikan
idea.

DESIGN THINKING IN MALAY LANGUAGE SUBJECTS HELPS PUPILS THINK MORE
CRITICALLY AND CREATIVELY

ABSTRACT

The subject of Bahasa Melayu is a core subject that must be followed by the students. Over the years,
various approaches and methods have been introduced in the world of education. STEM is one of the
most popularly applied in PdP to produce critically minded and creative students. Furthermore, project-
based learning is very popular with the students as it involves Hands On activities which are relaxing
and exciting. Based on these characteristics, the Design Thinking Approach in Malay Language
Subjects was created to attract students to the subject of the Malay language. Other than that, this
approach is also a platform for students to produce or create innovation based on issues. This approach
is unique since it involves the students' high-level thinking skills in resolving the issues discussed. Since
the Classroom Assessment is the main medium in assessment for students, this approach is suitable
because it helps the students to think more critically and creatively as well as to form active pupils
during PdP. As a result, teachers can provide TP based on the results given. This approach is also
suitable to be used during PdPr. Many impacts can be seen when students use this approach. Passive
pupils become active and quiet pupils become the pupils who give the most ideas.

ABSTRAK

Sejarah merupakan mata pelajaran yang menuntut ketekunan murid untuk menghafal banyak fakta,
menghuraikan makna konsep atau perkataan, melakukan kerja lapangan dan sebagainya. Satu kaedah
yang sesuai dan menepati citarasa murid kini perlu dicari agar aktiviti pengajaran dan pembelajaran
yang dikendalikan oleh guru sejarah akan mencapai kepuasan dan memberi kesan yang maksimum.
Menyedari akan hakikat bahawa kanak-kanak amat menggemari cerita dan gambar, maka penyelidik
telah menjadikannya sebagai satu kaedah dalam menjalankan aktiviti pengajaran dan pembelajaran
mata pelajaran sejarah. Kajian ini dijalankan bertujuan untuk menentukan kaedah bercerita
menggunakan gambar bersiri dapat membantu murid Tahun 4 mengingati fakta dalam mata pelajaran
Sejarah. Reka bentuk kajian adalah secara kualitatif. Seramai 4 orang murid Tahun 4 dan 2 orang guru
dari salah sebuah sekolah yang terletak di daerah Miri telah dipilih sebagai informan dalam kajian ini.
Instrumen yang digunakan ialah pemerhatian, temubual dan analisis dokumen yang berkaitan. Hasil
analisis data menunjukkan bahawa penggunaaan kaedah bercerita menggunakan gambar bersiri
dalam mata pelajaran Sejarah telah berupaya meningkatkan minat murid untuk belajar serta dapat
mewujudkan suasana pembelajaran yang menyeronokkan. Keputusan kajian ini membuktikan bahawa
penggunaan kaedah bercerita menggunakan gambar bersiri berjaya membantu murid mengingat fakta
sejarah.

THE USE OF STORYTELLING METHODS USING SERIAL PICTURES IN TEACHING
AND LEARNING HISTORY OF YEAR 4 IN A PRIMARY SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT OF

MIRI: ONE CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

History is a subject that requires students to be diligent in memorizing many facts, parsing the meaning
of concepts or words, conducting fieldwork, and so on. One method that is appropriate and meets the
tastes of students must now be sought in order for a history teacher's teaching and learning activities
to be satisfying and effective. Recognizing that children enjoy stories and pictures, researchers
developed a method for carrying out teaching and learning activities in history subjects. The purpose of
this study was to see if using a series of pictures to tell a story can help Year 4 students remember facts
in the subject History. The study was qualitative in nature. Four Year 4 students and two teachers from
one of the Miri area schools were chosen as informants for this study. The instruments used were
observations, interviews, and document analysis. Data analysis revealed that using the storytelling
method with serial pictures in History subjects increased students' interest in learning and created a fun
learning environment. The findings of this study show that using storytelling methods with serial pictures
helps students remember facts and history.

Guru melaksanakan kajian tindakan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan prestasi murid Tahun 4 semasa
kelas penulisan karangan naratif Bahasa Cina dengan menggunakan peta minda. Responden dalam
kajian ini terdiri daripada 6 orang murid Tahun 4 dari sebuah sekolah rendah di bandar Miri. Mereka
mempunyai tahap pembelajaran sederhana. Tinjauan awal telah dilakukan dengan menggunakan
pemerhatian dan melalui penilaian keputusan peperiksaan semester murid. Hasil daripada tinjauan,
guru mendapati bahawa keputusan murid masih tidak mencapai sasaran yang telah ditetapkan oleh
pihak sekolah. Masih terdapat sebahagian murid yang tidak dapat menulis karangan dengan baik.
Salah satu punca kepada kegagalan penulisan yang baik adalah kelemahan murid menstrukturkan
idea dalam mindanya dan mentafsirkan idea-idea ke dalam bentuk bahasa sama ada secara lisan atau
tulisan. Maka guru memberi bimbingan yang lebih kepada murid yang kurang mahir dalam
mengarang. Guru telah menggunakan peta minda dalam pengajaran penulisan karangan naratif
Bahasa Cina. Data dikumpulkan melalui kaedah pemerhatian, lembaran latihan dan temu bual dengan
murid-murid. Dalam pemerhatian pengajaran, murid-murid didapati amat menumpu perhatian semasa
penggunaan peta minda dalam pengajaran. Peta minda dapat membantu murid menjana idea dan
menghubungkan idea-idea supaya menjadi satu karangan yang baik. Skor murid dalam ujian pos
didapati meningkat. Secara keseluruhannya, penggunaan peta minda telah meningkatkan prestasi
murid Tahun 4.

THE USE OF MIND MAPS IN IMPROVING THE PERFORMANCE OF WRITING
NARRATIVE ESSAYS IN CHINESE YEAR 4 STUDENT ESSAY

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the action research being carried out by teachers is to improve the performance of Year
4 students in class when writing Chinese narrative essays using mind maps. Six Year 4 students from
a primary school in Miri city participated in this study. They have a moderate level of education.
Preliminary surveys were carried out through observations and the analysis of student semester
examination results. As a result of the survey, teachers discovered that student results continue to fall
short of the school's goals. Some students are still struggling with essay writing. One of the reasons for
poor writing is the student's difficulty structuring ideas in the mind and interpreting ideas into language
forms, either orally or in writing. As a result, teachers are providing more guidance to students who are
less proficient in writing. Mind maps were used by the teacher to teach Chinese narrative essay writing.
Data is gathered through observation methods, exercise sheets, and student interviews. Pupils were
found to be very focused during the use of mind maps in teaching during observation teaching. Mind
maps can help students generate and connect ideas in order to write a good essay. The postal test
scores of students were found to improve. Overall, the use of mind maps has improved Year 4 students'
performance.

Kajian ini dilaksanakan bagi mengkaji keberkesanan Teknik WAK untuk mengatasi masalah murid
tahap dua Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Kelabit semasa membina ayat gramatis berdasarkan gambar
tunggal. Pemilihan dua orang responden Tahun 5 adalah berdasarkan Tahap Penguasaan (TP)
Penilaian Bilik Darjah (PBD) yang kurang memuaskan. Kajian ini adalah berbentuk kualitatif yang mana
data-data dikumpul melalui soal selidik, pemerhatian tingkah laku, analisis dokumen, pencapaian ujian
pra dan ujian pasca. Proses pengumpulan data dimulakan dengan ujian pra diikuti dengan pelaksanaan
intervensi menggunakan Teknik WAK selama lapan bulan (lapan kali intervensi) dan diakhiri dengan
ujian pasca. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan peningkatan kemahiran dan keupayaan responden untuk
membina ayat gramatis berdasarkan gambar tunggal diberikan. Data yang diperoleh dipersembahkan
dalam bentuk jadual dan graf bagi membuktikan terdapat peningkatan dari segi pencapaian responden
terlibat. Secara keseluruhannya, hasil kajian menunjukkan berlakunya perubahan positif kemahiran
responden semasa menulis ayat Bahasa Melayu walaupun selepas intervensi dihentikan.

THE USE OF WAK TECHNIQUE IN IMPROVING THE SKILLS OF BUILDING
GRAMMATICAL SENTENCES MALAY LEVEL TWO

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of the WAK Technique to overcome the problem
of level 2 students at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Kelabit while constructing a grammatical sentence
based on a single picture. The Level of Proficiency (TP) of the Room Assessment Unsatisfactory degree
was used to select two Year 5 respondents (PBD). This is a qualitative study in which data was gathered
through questionnaires, behavioral observations, document analysis, pre-test achievement, and post-
test achievement. The data collection process began with pre-testing, was followed by an eight-month
implementation intervention using the WAK Technique, and concluded with a post-test. The study's
findings revealed an improvement in the respondents' skills and abilities to construct grammatical
sentences based on a single image. The collected data is presented in the form of tables and graphs
to demonstrate that there has been an improvement in terms of respondents' achievement. Overall, the
study's findings indicate that even after the intervention was discontinued, respondents' skills in writing
Malay sentences improved.

Kajian ini dijalankan untuk menentukan dan mengatasi masalah-masalah pembacaan yang dihadapi
oleh murid-murid Tahun 6. Murid tahun 6 terdiri daripada 11 orang murid Tahun 6, iaitu 6 perempuan
dan 5 lelaki dan seorang guru terlibat dalam kajian ini. Kajian ini pada awalnya, dilaksanakan melalui
hasil kerja murid dan ujian-ujian yang dijalankan secara kecil-kecilan dan juga aktiviti yang diberikan
oleh guru. Hasil tinjauan menunjukkan murid tidak mahir dalam membaca dengan intonasi yang betul.
Perancangan tindakan difokuskan kepada penguasaan kemahiran tersebut. Dua sesi pengajaran dan
pembelajaran telah dijalankan di mana murid belajar kemahiran tersebut melalui latihan yang diberikan.
Keputusan ujian bersemuka dan juga ujian secara luar talian telah menunjukkan prestasi murid telah
meningkat dan mereka lebih minat belajar. Pengajaran dan pembelajaran ini merupakan kemahiran
asas dan akan diteruskan pada kemahiran yang sama dengan melibatkan pelbagai jenis tanda baca
lagi. Penguasaan kemahiran ini adalah sangat penting untuk membolehkan murid membaca dengan
lancar dan betul.

ACTION STUDIES DETERMINE AND OVERCOME READING PROBLEMS
FACED BY YEAR 6 STUDENTS IN INLAND

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to determine and overcome the reading problems faced by Year 6 students.
Year 6 students consist of 11 Year 6 students, namely 6 females, 5 males, and one teacher were
involved in this study. The study was initially implemented using the results of student work and small-
scale tests, as well as activities assigned by teachers. According to survey results, students are not
proficient in reading with proper intonation. Actions are planned with the goal of mastering those skills
in mind. Students learned skills through the training provided in two teaching and learning sessions.
Face-to-face test results, as well as offline face-to-face test results, show that student performance has
improved and they are more interested in learning. These teaching and learning are fundamental skills
that will be enhanced by incorporating different types of punctuation. These skills must be mastered in
order for students to read fluently and correctly.

APLIKASI TELEGRAM POLL DALAM MENINGKATKAN TAHAP PENGLIBATAN

ABSTRAK

Kajian tindakan ini dijalankan untuk meningkatkan tahap penglibatan pelajar Tingkatan 5 Begonia
dalam aktiviti pentaksiran bilik darjah (PBD) melalui kaedah Telegram Poll yang boleh dijalankan dalam
talian secara langsung atau luar talian secara tidak langsung. Seramai 32 orang pelajar dari kelas
tersebut terlibat dalam kajian ini. Kajian ini dilaksanakan kerana tahap penglibatan selalu tidak
mencapai 100% walaupun kehadiran adalah 100%. Tinjauan awal telah dilaksanakan melalui kaedah
temubual dengan pelajar yang gagal menghantar kuiz yang diberikan. Hasil tinjauan menunjukkan
bahawa mereka menghadapi masalah ketidakstabilan internet dan motivasi mereka untuk membuat
kuiz, contohnya di Quizizz dan Wordwall, telah berkurang kerana paparan kuiz selalu tersekat dan
kadang-kala perlu buat semula beberapa kali. Perancangan tindakan difokuskan kepada kaedah
pentaksiran dalam bentuk kuiz melalui empat platform, iaitu Quizizz, Wordwall, Google Form dan
Telegram Poll. Empat kaedah ini telah digunakan sekurang-kurangnya dua kali dalam tempoh satu
bulan, iaitu bulan Julai. Purata peratus tahap penglibatan pelajar dibandingkan dan hasil dapatan
menunjukkan bahawa kaedah Telegram Poll telah membantu meningkatkan tahap penglibatan pelajar
dalam aktiviti PBD daripada 53% ke 91%. Temubual dengan pelajar juga telah menunjukkan bahawa
pelajar lebih bermotivasi untuk menggunakan Telegram Poll sebagai aktiviti pentaksiran mereka. Hal
ini menunjukkan kaedah yang dilaksanakan adalah berkesan untuk kelas yang dikaji.

POLL TELEGRAM APPLICATION TO INCREASE THE LEVEL OF INVOLVEMENT OF
LEVEL 5 STUDENTS BEGONIA

IN CLASSROOM ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

ABSTRACT

This action research was conducted to increase the level of involvement of Form 5 Begonia students in
classroom assessment activities (PBD) through the Telegram Poll method which can be conducted
online directly or indirectly offline. A total of 32 students from the class involved in this study. This study
was carried out because, even though the attendance was 100%, the level of involvement was never
100%. Preliminary surveys were conducted by interviewing students who did not complete a given quiz.
According to survey results, they are experiencing internet instability, and their motivation to create
quizzes, such as in Quizizz and Wordwall, has decreased because the quiz display is always stuck and
sometimes needs to be recreated several times. Action planning is centred on quizzes administered via
four platforms: Quizizz, Wordwall, Google Form, and Telegram Poll. These four methods were used at
least twice in the month of July. The average percentage of student involvement was compared and
the results showed that the Telegram Poll method has helped to increase the level of student
involvement in PBD activities from 53% to 91%. According to student interviews, students are more
motivated to use Telegram Poll as an assessment activity. This indicates that the method used is
effective for the class being studied.

ABSTRAK

Kajian tindakan yang kami jalankan ini adalah bertujuan untuk mencari penyelesaian kepada murid
Tingkatan 5 Anggerik yang ada masalah data untuk melaksanakan Pembelajaran Berasaskan Projek
(PBP) semasa Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Di Rumah (PdPr) dan mencapai Tahap Penguasaan (TP)
6 bagi subjek yang terlibat. Seramai 44 orang murid Tingkatan 5 Anggerik yang terlibat dalam kajian
ini. Tinjauan awal telah dilakukan dengan menggunakan kaedah soal selidik terhadap ibu bapa dan
guru serta laporan Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah (PBD) bagi kelas 5 Anggerik. Tinjauan kekangan yang
dihadapi oleh ibu bapa dan murid dalam PdPr telah dijalankan dan beberapa isu telah
dikenalpasti. Tinjauan kemahiran pelaksanaan Pembelajaran Berasaskan Projek (PBP) dalam
golongan guru subjek Tingkatan 5 Anggerik juga dijalankan, didapati bahawa guru tidak selalu
melaksanakan PBP dalam PdPr kerana kurang yakin dengan PBP dan tidak mempunyai kemahiran
pelaksanaan PBP dalam PdPr. Selain ini, kami juga mendapati guru tidak memberikan pencapaian TP
6 dalam mata pelajaran masing-masing oleh murid Tingkatan 5 Anggerik dalam PdPr. Untuk mengatasi
masalah ini, kami menjalankan kajian dengan merancang dan melaksanakan PBP bersama-sama
dengan guru subjek Tingkatan 5 Anggerik. PBP ini dilaksanakan dengan rakaman video pembentangan
murid di mana tidak memakan data murid untuk pembentangan dalam talian.

CONSTRAINTS ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECT -BASED LEARNING (PBP)
FOR HOME LEARNING AND TEACHING (PDPR) CLASS 5 ANGGERIK IN PANDEMIC

ABSTRACT

The action study that we run is aimed to find a solution for the Form 5 Anggerik students that are facing
data problems to implement Project Based Learning (PBP) during Home Teaching and Learning (PdPr)
and achieved Proficiency Level (TP) 6 for the subjects involved. A total of 44 Form 5 Anggerik students
were involved in this study. Preliminary surveys were conducted using a questionnaire method on
parents and teachers as well as the Classroom Assessment (PBD) report for class 5 Anggerik. An
overview of the constraints faced by parents and pupils in PdPr have been conducted and several
issues have been identified. Review of Form 5 subject teachers' Project Based Learning (PBL)
implementation skills Anggerik was also conducted, and it was discovered that teachers do not always
implement PBP in PdPr due to a lack of confidence in PBP and PBP implementation skills in PdPr.
Aside from that, we discovered that teachers did not award Form 5 Anggerik students in PdPr TP 6
achievement in their respective subjects. To address this issue, we conducted a study with Form 5
Anggerik subject teachers on planning and implementing PBP. This PBP used video recordings of
student presentations instead of student data for online presentations.

ABSTRAK

Penambahan dan penolakan pecahan, merupakan salah satu konsep asas yang penting untuk dikuasai
dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran (PdP) matematik Tahun 3. Dalam kelas saya, didapati bahawa
12 orang murid mengalami kesukaran melakukan penambahan dan penolakan pecahan dengan tepat.
Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengenal pasti keberkesanan penggunaan Frac-T bagi meningkatkan
kemahiran murid menambah dan menolak pecahan. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam kajian ini
adalah kajian tindakan yang melibatkan pemerhatian, refleksi, perancangan dan tindakan. Hasil refleksi
menunjukkan bahawa murid lemah dalam penguasaan konsep asas pecahan, murid menambah atau
menolak terus pengangka dengan pengangka dan penyebut dengan penyebut, murid menganggap
bahawa konsep penambahan dan penolakan pecahan adalah sama seperti konsep penambahan dan
penolakan nombor bulat dan saya lebih cenderung menggunakan pendekatan konvensional semasa
pelaksanaan PdP. Hasil intervensi menunjukkan bahawa terdapat peningkatan dari segi pencapaian
murid dalam ujian pasca. Penggunaan Frac-T berupaya meningkatkan kemahiran penambahan dan
penolakan pecahan, mengubah persekitaran PdP dari tidak aktif kepada aktif serta menarik minat murid
terhadap PdP pecahan. Dapat disimpulkan bahawa penggunaan bahan bantu mengajar yang berkesan
bukan sahaja dapat menarik minat dan tumpuan murid terhadap pelaksanaan PdP pecahan tetapi juga
dapat meningkatkan kemahiran penambahan dan penolakan pecahan serta mencetus motivasi dalam
kalangan murid untuk mengikuti pengajaran yang disampaikan.

EFFECT OF FRAC-T USAGE ON THE SKILLS OF ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION IN
FRACTION OF YEAR 3 PUPILS

ABSTRACT

Addition and subtraction in fraction are one of the important basic concepts that need to be dominated
in teaching and learning (PdP) mathematics Year 3. In my class,12 pupils had difficulties in doing
addition and subtraction of fractions accurately. The purpose of this research is to identify the
effectiveness of using Frac-T to enhance the pupils’ skills in adding and subtracting fractions. The
methodology used in this research was an action study that involves observation, reflection, planning,
and action. The results of the reflection show that pupils are weak in the mastery of the basic concepts
of fractions and adds or subtracts the numerator with the numerator and denominator with the
denominator directly. The pupils also assume that the concept of addition and subtraction of fractions
is the same as the concept of addition and subtraction of whole numbers. Also, I am more likely to use
the conventional approach of teaching, which is in the form of lectures with the pupils, so, there will be
more copying and memorizing what I present. The results of the intervention showed that there was an
improvement in the achievement of pupils in the post-test. The usage of Frac-T can improve the skills
of adding and subtracting fractions, changing the PdP environment from inactive to active as well as
attracting students to fractional PdP. It can be concluded that using teaching aids that are effective not
only attract students' interest and focus on the implementation of fractional PdP, but also improve the
skills of addition and subtraction of fractions as well as trigger the motivation among students.
Therefore, I will continue to use the intervention for future groups of students.

ABSTRAK

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan kesan penggunaan kaedah STREAM melalui proses reka
bentuk kejuruteraan dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran topik bahan buangan dalam meningkatkan
kefahaman dan kemahiran berfikir secara kritis dalam murid tahun 6 sekolah rendah. Kajian ini
bertujuan untuk membantu meningkatkan kefahaman dan kemahiran berfikir di kalangan murid.
Sampel kajian melibatkan seramai 30 orang murid dan seorang guru terlibat dalam kajian ini. Saya
memfokuskan kepada kefahaman bahan buangan dan kemahiran berfikir secara kritis murid-murid.
Tinjauan awal telah dibuat melalui ujian pra yang menunjukkan murid lemah dari segi kefahaman dan
kemahiran berfikir. Oleh itu, melalui tinjauan awal, didapati murid menghadapi masalah pembelajaran
pasif terhadap pengajaran dan pembelajaran formal dalam kelas. Oleh itu, pendekatan STREAM
dengan menggunakan proses reka bentuk kejuruteraan dalam pengajaran diperkenalkan kepada murid
sebagai satu cara untuk mengatasi masalah kefahaman dan kemahiran berfikir secara kritis. Kajian ini
juga telah menjalankan selama lima minggu berdasarkan pendekatan kaedah STREAM yang
diperkenalkan dan mendapati kefahaman topic bahan buangan dan kemahiran berfikir murid semakin
memuaskan jika dibandingkan dengan sebelumnya. Murid tersebut lebih menunjukkan sikap positif
dengan menunjukkan pembelajaran aktif untuk menguasai kefahaman bahan buangan dan kemahiran
berfikir secara kritis dan mempunyai keyakinan diri dalam aktiviti pengajaran dan pembelajaran di
kelas bagi mencapai keputusan yang cemerlang dalam Sains.

THE EFFECTS OF USING STREAM METHOD THROUGH ENGINEERING DESIGN PROCESSES
IN TEACHING AND LEARNING OF WASTE MATERIAL TOPICS ON THE INCREASED ABILITY
TO ANSWER HIGH-LEVEL QUESTIONS AND THE INTEREST OF PRIMARY SCHOOL YEAR 6

ABSTRACT

This study aims to determine the effects of the using the STREAM method through engineering design
process in teaching and learning of waste materials topic in increasing the understanding and skills in
thinking critically among Year 6 pupils. This study aims to help improve understanding and thinking
skills among pupils. A sample of 30 students and one teacher was involved in the study. I focus on the
understanding of waste and the critical thinking skills of the students. Preliminary surveys were carried
out through pre-tests which showed pupils were lack of understanding and thinking skills. Thus, through
a preliminary survey, it was found that pupils face the problem of passive learning of formal teaching
and learning in the classroom. Therefore, the STREAM approach by using the engineering design
process in teaching was introduced to pupils to overcome the problem of understanding and critical
thinking skills. The study was also conducted for five weeks based on the STREAM method approach
that was introduced and found that the understanding of the waste topic and thinking skills of pupils
were more satisfying compared to the results before. The students showed more positive attitudes by
showing active learning to master the understanding of waste and critical thinking skills and having self-
confidence in teaching and learning activities in the classroom to achieve excellent results in science.

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan prestasi dan minat murid dalam penguasaan sifir darab, iaitu
sifir 2 hingga 9. Kajian ini dilaksanakan dalam kalangan 10 orang murid Tahun 5 yang berprestasi
lemah dan kurang berminat untuk menguasai sifir-sifir yang berkenaan. Instrumen yang digunakan
dalam kajian ialah Ujian Penguasaan Sifir 2 hingga 9, Ujian Pra, Ujian Pos dan Borang Soal Selidik.
Ujian Penguasaan sifir 2 hingga 9 dan Ujian Pra akan diberi kepada 10 orang murid tersebut sebelum
kajian dijalankan. Ujian Pos pula akan diambil oleh murid setelah Magic 12 Squares digunakan untuk
mengajar dan membimbing murid dalam penguasaan sifir 2 hingga 9. Borang Soal Selidik juga akan
diberi kepada murid dan diisi untuk tujuan refleksi apabila kajian ini selesai dilaksanakan. Data daripada
kajian ini akan dianalisis melalui aspek-aspek kekerapan Keputusan kajian ini menunjukkan kesan
positif terhadap prestasi dan minat murid yang menjurus kepada pembelajaran matematik dalam
penguasaan sifir 2 hingga 9.

“MAGIC 12 SQUARES” TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ PERFORMANCE AND PASSION
MASTERING THE MULTIPLES OF TWO TO NINE

ABSTRACT
This study is aimed to improve students’ performance and passion in multiplication numbers, namely
multiplication numbers, namely numbers 2 to 9. This study was conducted among 10 Year 5 students
who performed poorly and were less interested in mastering the relevant numbers. The study's
instruments included a Mastery Test of Numbers 2 to 9, a Pre Test, a Post Test, and a questionnaire
form. Before the study begins, the 10 students will take Mastery Tests 2–9 and a Pre-Test. Students
will take the Post Test after Magic 12 Squares had been used to teach and guide them in the mastery
of numbers 2 to 9. When this study is finished, students will be given questionnaire forms to fill out for
reflection purposes. This study's data will be analysed in terms of frequency. The findings of this study
indicate that learning mathematics in the mastery of numbers 2 to 9 has a positive effect on students’
performance and interest.

Kajian ini dijalankan untuk meningkatkan minat dan kemahiran pelajar melukis pelan dan dongakan
sesuatu objek mengikut skala dalam Matematik. Seramai 12 orang pelajar Tingkatan 3 Bestari terlibat
secara langsung dalam kajian ini. Tinjauan awal yang melibatkan temubual, semakan kerja latihan dan
ujian topikal menunjukkan pelajar tidak dapat melukis pelan dan dongakan sesuatu objek mengikut
skala dengan tepat. Masalah ini timbul kerana mereka perlu membuat imaginasi ke atas objek yang
diberikan dalam keadaan konkrit. Kemudian mereka baru dapat melukis pelan dan dongakan mengikut
skala dengan tepat. Satu kajian dijalankan dengan memberikan tugasan kepada pelajar menghasilkan
bahan konkrit dan melukis pelan dan dongakan bahan konkrit yang dihasilkan dengan mengikut skala.
Kajian diselesaikan dalam tempoh 3 minggu. Dalam tempoh 3 minggu ini, keberkesanan tugasan diukur
melalui lisan, penyemakan buku kerja dan pemerhatian. Bagi mengukuhkan dapatan yang mana
kaedah ini berkesan, satu ujian pos dijalankan dan keputusan menunjukkan lebih daripada 50% pelajar
dapat menjawab soalan dengan baik dan prestasi meningkat.

IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SKILLS IN DRAWING A PLAN AND THE HIGH ANGLE OF AN
OBJECT USING THE “MR. CONCRETE” METHOD

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to increase students’ interest and skills in drawing plans and high angles of
an object following the scale in mathematics. 12 students of Form 3 Bestari were involved indirectly in
this research. Early surveillance that involves interviews, review of training work, and topical test
showed that students are not able to draw a plan and angle of an object following the scale accurately.
This problem occurred because they need to use their imagination on the given object in a concrete
condition, and only then they can draw the plan and angle following the scale accurately. One study
was conducted by giving the students assignments on creating concrete substances, drawing plans
and the angle of the concrete material that was made according to the scale. This study was done in 3
weeks. In 3 weeks, the effectiveness of the assignments was measured orally, through the revision of
work books, and observation. To strengthen the most effective study findings, one post test was
conducted and the results show that there were more than 50% of students are able to answer the
questions well and their performance also increased.

ABSTRAK

Kajian ini dijalankan untuk mengatasi masalah-masalah yang dihadapi oleh murid-murid Tahun 2 dan
Tahun 3 dalam menyelesaikan soalan-soalan yang melibatkan operasi tambah dalam bentuk
lazim tanpa mengumpul semula dan dengan mengumpul semula. Seramai 6 orang murid dari kelas
Tahun 2 dan Tahun 3 SK Sungai Seputi terlibat dalam kajian ini. Fokus kajian ini untuk meningkatkan
kemahiran murid menjawab soalan dalam bentuk lazim dan telah memilih 3 murid daripada Tahun 2
dan 3 orang murid daripada Tahun 3. Tinjauan awal telah dilaksanakan melalui penyemakan buku
latihan murid dan menggunakan ujian pra sebagai indikator. Hasil tinjauan menunjukkan kebanyakkan
murid tidak dapat menjawab soalan berkaitan penambahan tanpa mengumpul semula dan dengan
mengumpul dalam bentuk lazim. Oleh itu, perancangan tindakan difokuskan kepada cara termudah
dan berkesan dengan menggunakan Multipurpose CARDboard. Kajian ini dapat diselesaikan dalam
tempoh dua minggu. Keputusan ujian pos telah menunjukkan peningkatan prestasi murid berbanding
ujian pra. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan kaedah ini adalah mudah serta dapat meningkatkan kemahiran
menambah murid dengan cepat dan tepat.

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to address the difficulties that Year 2 and Year 3 students had in answering
questions involving addition operations in the usual form without and with regrouping. This study
included six students from SK Sungai Seputi's Year 2 and Year 3 classes. The purpose of this study
was to improve students' skills in answering questions in the traditional form and selected three
students from Year 2 and Year 3. Preliminary surveys were conducted by reviewing students' exercise
books and using pre-tests as indicators. According to the survey results, the majority of students were
unable to answer addition questions without regrouping and collecting in the traditional form. As a result,
action planning focuses on the simplest and most effective way to use Multipurpose CARDboard. The
research was completed in two weeks. The post-test results revealed an improvement in student
performance over the pre-test. The results show that this method is simple and can improve the skills
of quickly and accurately adding students.

Kajian tindakan ini dilaksanakan bertujuan untuk menentukan keberkesanan penggunaan kaedah
Petak 3RC dalam meningkatkan kemahiran penyelesaian pendaraban matriks 3x3 dalam kalangan
pelajar yang mengambil kursus DBM30033 Engineering Mathematics 3. Analisis keberkesanan dikenal
pasti melalui ujian pra dan ujian pos yang telah dilaksanakan. Responden yang terlibat dalam kajian
terdiri daripada 10 orang pelajar iaitu 6 orang lelaki dan 4 orang perempuan yang mengambil kursus
tersebut. Sesi intervensi telah diadakan dengan memperkenalkan kaedah Petak 3RC pada sesi
pengajaran dan pembelajaran secara atas talian melalui platform Ms Teams setelah selesai ujian pra
dilaksanakan. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan penggunaan kaedah Petak 3RC memberi kesan kepada
kemahiran penyelesaian pendaraban matriks 3x3 di mana pelajar boleh menyelesaikan pendaraban
matriks 3x3 dengan baik tanpa sebarang kesilapan. Pelajar juga dapat menyelesaikan soalan dalam
jangka masa yang singkat. Kesimpulannya, kaedah Petak 3RC telah memberikan impak yang positif
kepada pelajar di mana pelajar telah menunjukkan keyakinan yang tinggi untuk menyelesaikan
pendaraban matriks 3x3. Kaedah Petak 3RC ini diharap dapat dimanfaatkan dalam mempertingkatkan
pemahaman pelajar dalam pendaraban matriks.

IMPROVE THE SKILLS OF THE 3X3 MATRIX MULTIPLICATION SOLUTION USING THE
3RC PLOT METHOD

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this action research was to determine the effectiveness of the 3RC Plot method in
improving the skills of 3x3 matrix multiplication solution among students who are enrolled in the
DBM30033 Engineering Mathematics 3 course. Pre-tests and post tests that have been implemented
are used to determine effectiveness. The respondents involved in the study consisted of 10 students, 6
boys and 4 girls who took the course. Following the completion of the pre-implementation test, the
intervention session was held by introducing the 3RC Plot method during online teaching and learning
sessions via the MS Teams platform. The results showed that using the 3RC Compartment method
affects the skills of the 3x3 matrix multiplication solution, where students can complete the multiplication
of the 3x3 matrix well and without errors. Students can also solve problems in a short amount of time.
In conclusion, the 3RC Plot method has had a positive impact on students, with students demonstrating
great confidence in completing the 3x3 matrix multiplication. The 3RC Plot method is intended to
improve students' understanding of matrix multiplication.

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengatasi masalah murid Tahun 3 Amanah, Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala
Baram 2, semasa melengkapkan ayat matematik tolak melalui pengiraan bentuk lazim dengan kaedah
Garis Nombor 19 dan Anak Panah. Tinjauan telah dibuat berdasarkan pemerhatian daripada
penyemakan latihan murid, ujian Pra dan ujian Pos serta soal selidik. Hasil tinjauan awal, didapati murid
melakukan beberapa kesilapan semasa menolak dalam bentuk lazim, Kesilapan utama adalah murid
menolak dengan arah yang salah dan murid sukar menentukan samaada perlu melakukan
pengumpulan semula atau tidak. Murid juga masih melakukan kesilapan semasa menolak melibatkan
nombor yang lebih besar nilainya setelah pengumpulan semula dilakukan. Perancangan tindakan
difokuskan untuk membantu murid meningkatkan penguasaan operasi tolak malalui kaedah Garis
Nombor 19 dan Anak Panah dimana murid melukis anak panah yang ditetapkan semasa menjawab
soalan dan sentiasa merujuk anak panah tersebut setiapkali melakukan penolakan. Ini adalah untuk
memastikan murid dapat mengingati langkah-langkah yang harus diambil semasa melakukan
penolakan dalam bentuk lazim. Murid juga melakukan proses penolakan pada setiap lajur nilai tempat
menggunakan Garis Nombor 19. Keputusan ujian Pos telah menunjukkan peningkatan prestasi
kesemua 15 murid dalam menyelesaikan operasi tolak. Dapatan soal - selidik pula menunjukkan murid
bertambah yakin dalam melakukan penolakan dengan nombor - nombor yang lebih besar nilainya.

IMPROVE THE MASTERY OF YEAR 3 STUDENTS IN THE OPERATION OF
SUBTRACTION USING THE LINE NUMBER 19 AND ARROWS METHOD

ABSTRACT

This study aims to overcome the problem of Year 3 Amanah students, Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala
Baram 2, while completing the mathematical sentences minus through the calculation of common
shapes with the method of Line Number 19 and Arrow. The survey was created based on findings from
a review of student training, pre-test and post-test results, and questionnaires. According to the results
of the initial survey, students made some mistakes when pushing in the standard form. After regrouping,
students continue to make errors when subtracting numbers with larger values. The Line Number 19
and Arrow method is used to help students improve their mastery of subtraction operations. Students
draw a set arrow while answering a question and always refer to the arrow when doing a subtraction.
This is done to ensure that the student remembers the steps to take when performing the subtraction
in the traditional form. Pupils also use Line Number 19 to perform a subtraction process on each place
value column. The Post test results revealed an improvement in the performance of all 15 students in
completing the subtraction operation. The findings of the questionnaire showed that the students
became more confident in doing subtraction with numbers with larger values.

Kajian ini dilaksanakan bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan pelajar dalam menyelesaikan
operasi penambahan, penolakan, dan pendaraban melibatkan ungkapan algebra menggunakan
kaedah BORAA. Permasalahan yang sering terjadi apabila pelajar mengalami kekeliruan dan gagal
memahami kehendak soalan jika berlakunya gabungan operasi tambah, tolak, dan darab dalam
pengiraan ungkapan algebra. Fokus kajian ini tertumpu kepada kemahiran menjawab dengan tepat
terhadap pelbagai soalan yang melibatkan operasi tersebut ke atas ungkapan algebra. Seramai enam
orang pelajar Semester 1 (Semester Disember 2020) di bawah program Diploma Teknologi Maklumat
telah dipilih menjadi responden dalam kajian ini melalui tinjauan awal berdasarkan pemerhatian,
keputusan ujian dan tugasan yang diberikan. Bagi mengukuhkan kewujudan permasalahan, kumpulan
pelajar terbabit menjalani sesi temubual dan diberikan soalan ujian pra. Sebanyak empat sesi
dijalankan bersama pelajar secara atas talian dimana setiap sesi mengambil masa selama satu jam.
Melalui sesi tersebut, pelajar diperkenalkan kaedah BORAA dan soalan ujian pos diberikan pada sesi
akhir pelaksanaan tindakan. Keputusan ujian pos menunjukkan peningkatan dalam penyelesaian
pelbagai operasi melibatkan ungkapan algebra.

INCREASE STUDENTS' MASTERY IN COMPLETING ADDITION, SUBTRACTION, AND
MULTIPLICATION OPERATIONS INVOLVING ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS USING THE

BORAA METHOD

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to improve students' mastery in completing addition, subtraction, and
multiplication operations involving algebraic expression using the BORAA method. A problem that often
occurs is when students experience confusion and fail to understand the requirements of the question
if there is a combination of plus, subtract, and multiply operations in the calculation of algebraic
expressions. The study focuses on the skills of answering various questions that involves the operation
on algebraic expression accurately. A total of six students from Semester 1 (Semester December 2020)
under the Diploma in Information Technology programme were selected as respondents in this study
through a preliminary survey based on the observations, test results and assignments given. To
strengthen the existence of the problem, the group of students underwent an interview session and
were given pre-test questions. A total of four sessions were conducted with the students via online
where each session took one hour. Through the session, students are introduced to the BORAA method
and postal test questions are given at the final session of action implementation. The results of the
postal test showed an increase in the solution of various operations involving algebraic expressions.

Diagram SOP 4K1N sebagai medium perubahan dalam bidang sukatan dan timbangan. Perubahan
yang memberangsangkan telah ditunjukkan. 30 orang murid tahun 5 dipilih secara rawak tanpa
dipengaruhi oleh faktor jantina, demografi dan tahap penguasaan Matematik. Kajian ini memfokuskan
kepada permasalahan dalam penukaran bentuk pecahan kepada perpuluhan yang bertindak sebagai
pengganggu dalam tajuk ukuran panjang, jisim dan isi padu cecair. Lima jenis data telah diambil
sebagai menyokong kepada isu ini iaitu Ujian Pengesanan, dua jenis Student Voice yang berkaitan
persepsi, kesukaran tajuk dan kaedah amalan pembelajaran Matematik dalam kalangan murid. Serta
analisis item soalan peperiksaan UPSR tahun 2016 hingga 2019 yang berasaskan tajuk pecahan,
perpuluhan, peratus, ukuran panjang, jisim dan isi padu cecair. Kaedah Kajian Tindakan Kurt Lewin
(1947) digunakan sebagai tunjang kajian dan disokong oleh Model Teknologi Persuasif AIDA (1998)
dan Teori Tulang Ikan Ishikawa (1958) mengukuhkan lagi kajian. Secara keseluruhan telah berlaku
peningkatan dalam pencapaian Ujian POS bagi setiap item. Kesimpulan daripada maklum balas murid
Diagram SOP 4K1N menjadi panduan yang berfokus dan membantu murid meningkatkan kefahaman
dan kemahiran dalam tajuk yang berkaitan.

THE USE OF SOP 4K1N DIAGRAM AS A PERSUASIVE MEDIUM IN MEASURE AND
SCALES YEAR 5

ABSTRACT

SOP 4K1N diagram as a medium of change in the field of measure and scale. Encouraging changes
have been shown. 30 of Year 5 pupils were randomly selected without being influenced by gender,
demographic, and mathematical mastery factors. This study focuses on the problems in conversion of
fractional to decimal forms that act as a nuisance in the title of measure of length, mass, and volume of
liquids. Five types of data were taken in support of this issue, namely the Detection Test, two types of
Student Voice related to perception, title difficulties and methods of mathematical learning practice
among pupils as well as the analysis of UPSR exam question items of 2016 to 2019 based on fractional,
decimal, percent, measure of length, mass, and volume of liquid. The Kurt Lewin Action Study Method
(1947) was used as the mainstay of the study and supported by the AIDA Persuasive Technology Model
(1998) and Ishikawa Fish Bone Theory (1958) to further strengthen the study. Overall, there has been
an increase in the achievement of the POS Test for each item. The conclusions from the pupils’
feedback of Diagram SOP 4K1N are a focused guide and help pupils improve their understanding and
skills in relevant titles.

Operasi tambah dan tolak merupakan asas kepada operasi lain (Development and Research in Early
Math Education). Menurut Modul Asas Numerasi (2021), kemahiran numerasi merupakan satu
keperluan untuk dikuasai, maka penguasaan operasi asas yang kukuh terhadap murid Tahun 1
memainkan peranan penting. Carta 100 merupakan hasil inovasi yang dapat meningkatkan
penguasaan murid Tahun 1 terhadap Operasi Asas (Tambah dan Tolak dalam lingkungan 100). Carta
100 merupakan satu permainan yang membolehkan pemain memahami konsep operasi tambah dan
tolak melalui bermain. Responden yang dipilih adalah murid Tahun 1 dimana mereka telah
menunjukkan tahap pencapaian yang sederhana dan lemah pada permulaan. Data dikumpulkan
melalui Ujian Pra, Ujian Pasca, soal selidik terhadap murid dan temu bual bersama ibu bapa. Hasil
analisis telah menunjukkan peningkatan prestasi selepas Carta 100 diperkenalkan. Melalui analisis,
97.3% responden telah menguasai operasi tambah dan tolak. Ini ternyata bahawa penggunaan Carta
100 dapat meningkatkan prestasi dan minat murid terhadap operasi asas tambah dan tolak dalam
lingkungan 100.

USING THE 100 CHART TO IMPROVE STUDENT PERFORMANCE AND INTEREST IN
BASIC ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION OPERATIONS IN THE 100 ENVIRONMENT

ABSTRACT

Addition and subtraction operations are the basis for other operations (Development and Research in
Early Math Education). According to the Basic Numeracy Module (2021), numeracy skills are required
to be mastered, so a strong mastery of basic operations is critical for Year 1 students. The 100 chart is
the result of creativity that can improve Year 1 students' understanding of Basic Operations (Addition
and Subtraction within 100). Chart 100 is a game that helps players learn about addition and subtraction
operations through play. The chosen respondents are Year 1 students who demonstrated a moderate
to weak level of achievement at the start. Data was gathered through Pre-Test, Post-Test, student
questionnaires, and parent interviews. The analysis revealed that performance improved after the
introduction of the Chart 100. According to the results of the analysis, 97.3 percent of respondents have
mastered addition and subtraction operations. It has been discovered that using the 100 Chart can
improve students' performance and interest in the fundamental operations of addition and subtraction
within 100.

Tajuk kajian kami ialah penggunaan carta nilai tempat dalam meningkatkan kemahiran operasi tolak
Matematik bagi murid Tahun 6. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk membantu murid-murid Tahun 6 yang lemah
dan belum menguasai kemahiran operasi tolak. Dalam kajian ini, kami telah menggunakan carta nilai
tempat sebagai alat bantu mengajar. Kami telah memilih 3 orang murid tahun 6 yang lemah dan belum
menguasai kemahiran operasi tolak sebagai responden kami. Tinjauan awal telah dilakukan dengan
menjalankan pemerhatian terhadap jawapan yang diberikan oleh murid dalam latihan. Melalui
pemerhatian kami didapati responden menggunakan nombor yang kecil untuk menolak nombor yang
besar. Bagi mengatasi masalah ini, alat bantu mengajar iaitu carta nilai tempat digunakan untuk
membantu murid yang lemah dalam penguasaan kemahiran operasi tolak. Guru membimbing murid-
murid membandingkan nilai bagi 2 nombor dan menjalani operasi tolak dengan menggunakan carta
nilai tempat. Pada akhir kajian ini, didapati bahawa tiga orang responden ini menunjukkan kemajuan
dan telah menguasai kemahiran tolak, iaitu menolak dua nombor dengan nilai besar tolak nilai kecil
dengan berpandukan carta nilai tempat. Hasil kajian ini juga membuktikan bahawa penggunaan carta
nilai tempat memberi kesan yang baik dan dapat membantu murid yang lemah dalam penguasaan
kemahiran operasi tolak.

THE USE OF PLACE VALUE CHARTS IN IMPROVING MATHEMATICAL SUBTRACTION
SKILLS FOR YEAR 6 STUDENT

ABSTRACT

The title of the research is the use of place value charts in improving mathematical subtraction skills for
Year 6 students. This study aims to assist disadvantaged Year 6 students who have not yet mastered
push operation skills. As a teaching aid, we used value charts in this study. As respondents, we chose
three year six students who are weak and have not yet mastered the skills of push operations. An initial
survey was carried out, with observations made on the answers provided by students in the exercise.
According to our observations, respondents use small numbers to subtract a large number. To address
this issue, teaching aids such as place value charts are used to assist students who are struggling to
master push operation skills. The teacher guides the students through a subtraction operation using a
value chart place by comparing the values of the two numbers. At the conclusion of this study, it was
discovered that these three respondents had made progress and mastered the skill of subtraction, i.e.
subtracting two numbers with a large value minus a small value using the place value chart as a guide.
The findings of this study also show that using value charts in the classroom makes a good impression
and can assist students who are lacking in mastery of push operation skills.

Kajian ini dijalankan bagi membantu murid membahagi sebarang pecahan wajar dengan pecahan wajar
menggunakan Pecahan Heksagon. Pecahan Heksagon merupakan kepingan plastik bentuk yang
terdiri daripada bentuk heksagon, trapezoid, rombus dan segi tiga. Bentuk-bentuk ini dimanipulasi dan
digunakan sebagai bahan konkrit dalam pembelajaran Bahagi Pecahan. Seramai lima orang murid
Tahun 6 yang mempunyai pencapaian yang sederhana dan lemah dalam topik Bahagi Pecahan telah
menjadi peserta kajian. Analisis hasil kerja, pemerhatian dan temu bual digunakan untuk mengumpul
data. Dapatan menunjukkan Pecahan Heksagon membantu kelima-lima peserta kajian dalam
memahami konsep bahagi pecahan.

THE USE OF HEXAGON FRACTIONS IN HELPING YEAR 6 STUDENTS DIVIDE ANY
REASONABLE FRACTIONS WITH REASONABLE FRACTIONS

ABSTRACT
This study is conducted to help students divide any proper fraction by the proper fraction using Hexagon
Fractions. Hexagon fractions are plastic pieces of composed shape of hexagonal, trapezoidal, rhombus
and triangular shapes. These forms are manipulated and used as a concrete material in the learning of
Fractions. A total of five students of the Year 6 who have moderate and poor achievement in the topic
of Fractional Division has become study participants. Analysis of work results, observations and
interviews were used to collect data. The findings showed that the Hexagon Fraction helped the five
study participants in understanding the concept of fractional division.

Kajian ini dilaksanakan bagi melihat keberkesanan Teknik Penyelesaian ELMATH dalam meningkatkan
pengusaan murid Tingkatan Satu SMK Lutong dalam menyelesaikan masalah penambahan dan
penolakan integer negatif. Teknik penyelesaian bagi tajuk Integer Negatif yang dikenali sebagai Teknik
Penyelesaian ELMATH diperkenalkan oleh Elango (2004). Teknik penyelesaian ini digunakan untuk
menyelesaikan operasi penambahan dan operasi penolakan bagi topik Integer Negatif. Seramai 22
orang murid dari empat buah kelas diambil secara rawak sebagai responden kajian ini. Segala
maklumat yang diperlukan telah dikumpulkan dengan cara mengemukakan set soalan ujian pra dan
ujian pasca untuk maklumat kuantitatif dan secara pemerhatian untuk maklumat kualitatif. Tinjauan
awal mendapati murid sukar untuk memahami konsep integer dan mereka melakukan banyak
kesalahan semasa menjawab soalan berkaitan integer negatif. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa,
Teknik Penyelesaian ELMATH boleh diaplikasikan dalam membantu murid untuk menyelesaikan

ELMATH TECHNIQUES: IMPROVING THE COMPETENCE OF FORM 1 STUDENTS IN
SMK LUTONG SOLVING THE PROBLEM OF ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION OF
NEGATIVE INTEGER

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to see the effectiveness of ELMATH Solution Technique in improving the
mastery of Form One students of SMK Lutong in solving addition problems and negative integer
subtraction. The solution technique for the Negative Integer title is known as the The ELMATH
technique solution was introduced by Elango (2004). This solution technique is used to finish the
Negative Integer topic's addition and subtraction operations. A total of 22 students from four classes
were chosen at random to participate in this study. All necessary information was gathered by
submitting a set of pre-test and post-test questions for quantitative data and observational data for
qualitative data. According to preliminary surveys, students struggle to understand the concept of
integers and make numerous errors when answering questions about negative integers. According to

Kajian tindakan bertajuk Teknik AA (Awal dan Akhir) dalam Fizik bertujuan untuk membantu pelajar
dalam meningkatkan pencapaian dalam Fizik STPM. Kajian ini menyasarkan seramai tiga orang
pelajar Tingkatan 6 Atas yang menduduki peperiksaan Ulangan STPM Penggal 2 2020 yang
berpencapaian rendah. Menerusi tinjaun awal menggunakan kaedah dokumentasi, pelajar didapati
seringkali gagal dalam menerbitkan formula dan menulis formula dalam menjawab soalan fizik.
Manakala menerusi pemerhatian, pelajar kurang memberi respon dalam berkongsi idea mengenai
langkah-langkah untuk menerbitkan formula fizik. Menggunakan Model Lewin (1948) untuk
melaksanakan kajian, pengkaji memilih topik Capacitor dan Electric Current untuk mengaplikasikan
teknik AA. Sebelum teknik AA diperkenalkan, pelajar sering diuji dengan kuiz formula bagi memastikan
mereka mempunyai pengetahuan formula yang kukuh. Menerusi teknik AA, pelajar didapati dapat
mencari jalan tersendiri untuk menerbitkan formula berpandukan simbol/ huruf yang terdapat dalam
formula yang perlu diterbitkan. Pelajar dapat menulis lebih banyak formula dengan tepat dan
menunjukkan kemajuan dalam menerbitkan formula. Secara pemerhatian, pelajar didapati lebih
responsif dalam memberi idea untuk menerbitkan formula. Selain itu, pelajar turut dapat menjawab
lebih banyak soalan yang melibatkan kepelbagaian formula disebabkan terlatih dengan terbitan formula
yang menggabungkan pelbagai formula.

AA TECHNIQUE IN PHYSICS

ABSTRACT

The action research entitled AA Techniques (Early and Final) in Physics aims to help students improve
their performance in STPM Physics. This study will focus on three Upper Form 6 students who
performed poorly on the STPM Term 2 2020 Repeat examination. Students were found to frequently
fail in publishing formulas and writing formulas in answering physics questions in preliminary surveys
using documentation methods. Observation shows that students are less responsive to sharing ideas
about how to publish physics formulas. The researcher chose the topic of Capacitor and Electric Current
to apply the AA technique using Lewin's (1948) Model. Prior to the introduction of the AA technique,
students were frequently tested with formula quizzes to ensure they had a strong understanding of the
formula. Students were found to be able to find their own way to publish a formula using the AA
technique based on the symbols/letters found in the formula that needed to be published. Students are
able to write more accurate formulas and make progress in publishing formulas. Students were
observed to be more responsive in providing ideas for publishing formulas. Furthermore, because they
have been trained in the derivation of formulas that combine various formulas, students are able to
answer more questions involving a variety of formulas.

THE USE OF GROUP WORK IN IMPROVING PUPILS’ PARTICIPATION DURING
MATHEMATICS LESSONS

ABSTRACT

Group learning is a kind of social interaction where the pupils can learn from their peers. From my
experience, pupils seldom or rarely involved themselves with each other in learning Mathematics.
Therefore, I conducted research that can help me to increase my pupils’ involvement in learning
Mathematics by doing group work. The respondents consisted of 21 pupils from Year 4 where majority
of them were low ability pupils. I had carried out observations to observe the pupils’ behaviour. Besides,
I also use interview and questionnaire in order to gain my pupils’ feedback. The result showed that
more than half of the class has increased their involvement by doing group work compared to the
situation before. Most of the low ability pupils have involved themselves in group work where they learnt
to interact with their group members. From my observations, the pupils indicated some interaction
among them.

ABSTRAK

Kajian tindakan ini adalah bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan gaya pembelajaran dengan aktiviti Fan-
N-Pick dan pencapaian akademik Kemahiran Geografi murid tingkatan 1 sesi petang. Kajian ini
menggunakan kaedah temu bual dan pemerhatian. Responden kajian terdiri daripada 137 orang murid
Tingkatan 1 sesi petang. Kajian tindakan ini menggunakan kaedah Fan-N-Pick dalam pengajaran dan
pembelajaran bagi meningkatkan keupayaan murid berkemahiran Geografi dengan baik. Gaya
pembelajaran murid berpandukan Model Gaya Pembelajaran Grasha-Riechmann (1996) mengandungi
enam domain, iaitu bebas, mengelak, bekerjasama, bergantung, bersaing dan melibatkan diri.
Pencapaian akademik ialah keputusan Kuiz Kemahiran Geografi bagi mata pelajaran Geografi. Data
kajian dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif (frekuensi, peratus dan min). Dapatan kajian
menunjukkan bahawa gaya pembelajaran yang dominan ialah gaya pembelajaran melibatkan diri dan
bebas. Impak utama daripada kajian ini ialah amalan gaya pembelajaran dengan aktiviti Fan-N-Pick
yang berkesan dapat mengukuhkan murid mencapai kejayaan dalam pencapaian akademik Geografi.

THE RELATIONSHIP OF LEARNING STYLE WITH FAN-N-PICK AND THE
ACHIEVEMENT OF GEOGRAPHY SKILLS AMONG STUDENTS IN LEVEL 1

AFTERNOON SESSION

ABSTRACT

This action study was aimed to see the relationship of the learning style with the Fan-N-Pick activity
and the academic achievement of Geography skills among students in Form 1 evening session. This
research uses interview and observation methods. Respondents of the study included 137 students of
Form 1 evening session. This action study uses the Fan-N-Pick method in teaching and learning to
increase students’ ability that have good skills in Geography. The students’ style of learning are guided
by the Grasha-Riechmann Learning Style Model (1996) that contains six domains, namely independent,
evasive, cooperative, dependent, competitive and engaging. Academic achievement is the result of the
Geography Skills Quiz for the subject of Geography. Study data were analyzed using descriptive
statistics (frequency, percentage and mean). The findings of the study indicate that the dominant
learning style is the engaging and independent learning style. The main impact of this study is that the
practice of learning styles with effective Fan-N-Pick activities can strengthen students to achieve
success in Geography academic achievement.

Kajian ini dijalankan di SMK Chung Hua (CF) Miri semasa pengajaran dan pengajaran di rumah (PdPR)
dilaksanakan akibat Perintah Kawalan Pergerakan yang disebabkan oleh penularan penyakit pendemik
COVID-19. Satu platform media blog Pengajian Am atas talian dibangunkan oleh guru untuk
meningkatkan motivasi dan fokus belajar dalam kalangan pelajar Tingkatan Enam. Pelbagai bahan
pembelajaran telah dikumpulkan oleh guru dan disusun secara sistematik digunakan semasa
pembelajaran dalam talian google meet dan juga luar talian. Hasil tinjauan melalui soal selidik
mendapati bahawa pelajar bersetuju penggunaan media blog ini telah banyak membantu mereka
dalam usaha mendapatkan nota pelajaran, membuat latihan yang diberikan oleh guru, membaca
jawapan rakan, mendapat bahan rujukan, memuatnaik hasil kerja pelajar dan membuat ulangkaji.
Pelajar juga bersetuju bahawa penggunaan media blog telah membawa pelbagai impak positif dalam
meningkatkan semangat membuat latihan, meningkatkan tahap penglibatan dalam pelajaran,
meningkatkan fokus belajar, meningkatkan motivasi dan meningkatkan kemahiran menulis. Selain itu,
pelajar juga mudah mendapatkan maklum balas daripada guru, mudah berinteraksi dengan guru dan
mudah menguruskan masa ulangkaji. Media blog ini juga dapat meningkatkan kemahiran ICT dan
keyakinan pelajar untuk mendapatkan bahan rujukan. Guru dan pelajar perlu bekerjasama untuk
melaksanakan segala urusan penyelenggaraan media blog ini supaya maklumat dan rujukan yang
terkini dapat dikemaskinikan mengikut keperluan semasa.

MEDIA DEVELOPMENT OF GENERAL STUDIES BLOG TO INCREASE MOTIVATION

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted at SMK Chung Hua (CF) Miri during home teaching and learning (PdPR)
implemented as a result of the Movement Control Order caused by the spread of a pandemic disease
COVID-19. An online General Studies blog media platform was created by the teachers to increase
Form Six students' motivation and focus on learning. Various learning materials have been collected
and systematically compiled by teachers for current use google meet online learning as well as offline.
According to survey results obtained through questionnaires, students agreed that the use of this blog
media has greatly aided them in their efforts to obtain lesson notes, complete exercises assigned by
the teacher, read answers from friends, obtain reference materials, upload student work, and revise.
Students also agree that the use of blog media has improved the spirit of making exercises, increased
the level of involvement in lessons, increased focus learn, increased motivation, and improved writing
skills. Furthermore, students can easily obtain feedback from teachers, interact with teachers, and
manage review time. This blog media can also help students improve their ICT skills and confidence in
obtaining reference material. Teachers and students must collaborate to maintain all aspects of this
blog's media so that the most recent information and references can be updated in accordance with
current needs.

Kajian ini dijalankan untuk menilai keberkesanan kaedah pembelajaran aktif iaitu penggunaan Teknik
3-Men iaitu animasi kartun dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran mata pelajaran ekonomi topik
keseimbangan pendapatan negara. Teknik ini bertujuan untuk menarik minat pelajar, meningkatkan
penguasaan teknik melukis keluk yang tepat dan seterusnya meningkatkan pencapaian akademik,
motivasi dan interaksi sosial pelajar. Instrument kajian yang digunakan ialah rancangan pengajaran
harian, powerpoint dan ujian kuiz. Mentodologi kajian yang digunakan ialah melalui temu bual
pemerhatian, serta tindak balas dalam aktiviti Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran untuk mengesahkan
pelaksanaan pedagogi tersebut. Persepsi pelajar tentang kesesuaian dan keberkesanan pedagogi
menarik minat mereka diperoleh melalui temu bual yang ditadbirkan kepada pelajar serta temu bual
yang dijalankan selepas proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Hasil data ujian kuiz menunjukkan
terdapat kesan kaedah pembelajaran aktif yang signifikan terhadap pencapaian akademik pelajar
selepas mereka mengikut pembelajaran aktif dalam kelas ekonomi. Namun begitu, tiada peningkatan
interaksi sosial di kalangan pelajar yang signifikan selepas mereka mengikuti aktiviti pembelajaran aktif.
Implikasi dapatan kajian ini mencadangkan bahawa pihak guru, pentadbir sekolah dan KPM wajar
menggalakkan dan memperluaskan pengaplikasian kaedah pembelajaran aktif dalam proses
pengajaran dan pembelajaran mata pelajaran ekonomi STPM untuk meningkatkan lagi pencapaian
akademik, minat dan motivasi pelajar terbabit.

USING CARTOON ANIMATION TECHNIQUES TO IMPROVE THE MASTERY OF
DRAWING CURVES IN THE SUBJECT OF ECONOMICS CHAPTER 2

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of active learning methods that is the use of
Techniques 3-Men i.e. cartoon animation in the teaching and learning of topic economics subjects
national income balance. This technique is intended to stimulate students' interest, improve mastery of
the technique of drawing precise curves, and thus improve academic achievement, student motivation,
and social interaction. A daily lesson plan, PowerPoint, and quiz tests are used as research instruments.
To validate the implementation of such pedagogy, interviews, conversations, observations, and
responses in Teaching and Learning activities were used as the research methodology. Students'
perceptions of the appropriateness and effectiveness of pedagogy stimulated their interest were
gathered from interviews administered to students as well as interviews conducted after the teaching
and learning process. The quiz test data show that active learning methods have a significant effect on
students' academic achievement after they use active learning in economics class. However, there was
no significant improvement in social interactions among students after they participated in active
learning activities. The study's findings suggest that teachers, school administrators, and the MOE are
justified in encouraging and expanding the use of active learning methods in the teaching process and
learning STPM economics subjects to improve academic achievement, interest, and motivation of the
students involved.

PENGGUNAAN PERMAINAN “PIZZA SEJARAH” MENGUKUHKAN INGATAN MURID

Penyelidikan tindakan ini dijalankan untuk mengukuhkan ingatan murid dalam mata pelajaran Sejarah
Tahun 5. Pengkaji telah menghasilkan satu bahan bantu belajar yang dinamakan “Pizza Sejarah”.
“Pizza Sejarah” merupakan satu bahan bantu belajar berasaskan permainan pizza yang digunakan
oleh pengkaji untuk mengukuhkan ingatan murid dalam mata pelajaran Sejarah Tahun 5. Kajian ini
dijalankan ke atas murid Tahun 5 iaitu seramai 6 orang peserta kajian yang terdiri daripada 4 peserta
kajian perempuan dan 2 peserta kajian lelaki. Objektif kajian adalah menilai kelebihan dan kelemahan
“Pizza Sejarah” dan cadangan tindakan susulan “Pizza Sejarah” dalam meningkatkan minat murid
dalam mata pelajaran Sejarah Tahun 5. Pengkaji telah menggunakan lima cara pengumpulan data
dalam kajian ini iaitu temu bual, pemerhatian, ujian pra dan ujian pasca, soal selidik dan analisis
dokumen. Data yang diperoleh melalui instrumen tersebut telah dianalisis menggunakan peratusan,
kekerapan dan dirumuskan secara kualitatif. Dapatan kajian mendapati bahawa semua responden
telah memberi respon positif tentang penggunaan “Pizza Sejarah” sepanjang kajian dijalankan. Hasil
analisis data ujian pra dan ujian pasca, pengkaji mendapati bahawa responden menunjukkan
peningkatan markah yang ketara dalam ujian pasca. Melalui penggunaan “Pizza Sejarah”, keputusan
ujian pra dan ujian pasca telah menunjukkan purata peningkatan sebanyak 62%. Keputusan kajian
menunjukkan bahawa penggunaan “Pizza Sejarah” adalah berkesan menarik minat murid dalam mata
pelajaran sejarah Tahun 5. Akhir sekali, beberapa cadangan tindakan susulan untuk menggunakan
“Pizza Sejarah” dalam pembelajaran dan penilaian mengikut pendidikan abad ke-21.

THE USE OF THE GAME "PIZZA SEJARAH" REINFORCES STUDENTS' MEMORY IN
YEAR 5 HISTORY SUBJECTS

ABSTRACT

This action research was carried out to improve students' memory in the subject of History Year 5. The
researcher created a learning tool called "Pizza Sejarah." "Pizza Sejarah" is a learning aid based on a
pizza game that researchers use to improve students' memory in Year 5 History subjects. This study
was conducted on Year 5 students, with a total of 6 study participants, four of whom were female and
two of whom were male. The study's goal is to assess the benefits and drawbacks of "Pizza Sejarah"
and the proposed follow-up action "Pizza Sejarah" in increasing students' interest in the subject of
History Year 5. In this study, researchers used five data collection methods: interviews, observations,
pre-tests, and tests. analysis of the post, questionnaire, and documents. The instrument's data was
analyse using percentage, frequency, and qualitative formulation. The study's findings revealed that
throughout the study, all respondents gave a positive response to the use of "Pizza History." The
researcher discovered that the respondents' post-test scores increased significantly after analyzing pre-
test and post-test data. The researcher discovered that the respondents' post-test scores increased

Sejarah merupakan mata pelajaran yang menuntut ketekunan murid untuk menghafal banyak fakta,
menghuraikan makna konsep atau perkataan, melakukan kerja lapangan dan sebagainya. Satu kaedah
yang sesuai dan menepati citarasa murid kini perlu dicari agar aktiviti pengajaran dan pembelajaran
yang dikendalikan oleh guru sejarah akan mencapai kepuasan dan memberi kesan yang maksimum.
Menyedari akan hakikat bahawa kanak-kanak amat menggemari cerita dan gambar, maka penyelidik
telah menjadikannya sebagai satu kaedah dalam menjalankan aktiviti pengajaran dan pembelajaran
mata pelajaran sejarah. Kajian ini dijalankan bertujuan untuk menentukan kaedah bercerita
menggunakan gambar bersiri dapat membantu murid Tahun 4 mengingati fakta dalam mata pelajaran
Sejarah. Reka bentuk kajian adalah secara kualitatif. Seramai 4 orang murid Tahun 4 dan 2 orang guru
dari salah sebuah sekolah yang terletak di daerah Miri telah dipilih sebagai informan dalam kajian ini.
Instrumen yang digunakan ialah pemerhatian, temubual dan analisis dokumen yang berkaitan. Hasil
analisis data menunjukkan bahawa penggunaaan kaedah bercerita menggunakan gambar bersiri
dalam mata pelajaran Sejarah telah berupaya meningkatkan minat murid untuk belajar serta dapat
mewujudkan suasana pembelajaran yang menyeronokkan. Keputusan kajian ini membuktikan bahawa
penggunaan kaedah bercerita menggunakan gambar bersiri berjaya membantu murid mengingat fakta
sejarah.

THE USE OF STORYTELLING METHODS USING SERIAL PICTURES IN TEACHING
AND YEAR FOUR HISTORY LEARNING IN A PRIMARY SCHOOL:

ABSTRACT

History is a subject that requires students to be diligent in memorizing many facts, parsing the meaning
of concepts or words, conducting fieldwork, and so on. One method that is appropriate and meets the
tastes of students must now be sought in order for a history teacher's teaching and learning activities
to be satisfying and effective. Recognizing that children enjoy stories and pictures, researchers
developed a method for carrying out teaching and learning activities in history subjects. The purpose of
this study was to see if using a series of pictures to tell a story can help Year 4 students remember facts
in the subject History. The study was qualitative in nature. Four Year 4 students and two teachers from
one of the Miri area schools were chosen as informants for this study. The instruments used were
observations, interviews, and document analysis. Data analysis revealed that using the storytelling
method with serial pictures in History subjects increased students' interest in learning and created a fun
learning environment. The findings of this study show that using storytelling methods with serial pictures
helps students remember facts and history.

ABSTRAK

Kajian yang dijalankan adalah bertujuan untuk memudahkan pelajar Tingkatan 5 menguasai topik-topik
yang dipelajari dalam silibus KSSM mata pelajaran Geografi terutamanya topik yang melibatkan
kemahiran Geografi semasa PdPR. Seramai 17 orang pelajar dari Tingkatan 5 Uranus yang telah
mengambil mata pelajaran Geografi di SMK Riam, Miri dan seorang guru terlibat dalam kajian ini.
Tinjauan awal telah dilaksanakan melalui Ujian Pra didapati pelajar agak lemah dalam topik Membina
Carta Pai. Penilaian untuk Ujian Pra adalah pelajar diberi 1 set soalan Tema Kemahiran Geografi yang
dihantar melalui telegram. Hasil tinjauan menunjukkan pelajar tidak mengingati proses dan langkah
untuk membina carta pai. Perancangan tindakan difokuskan kepada kaedah untuk meningkatkan
kefahaman, daya ingatan dan penguasaan pelajar iaitu penggunaan video pembelajaran yang
dihasilkan daripada slaid powerpoint. Pelajar telah diberikan video tersebut yang telah dimuat naik ke
dalam youtube. Keputusan ujian pos telah menunjukkan peningkatan prestasi pelajar dalam membina
carta pai yang menepati. Pelajar lebih menunjukkan sikap positif untuk menguasai kemahiran dan
mempunyai keyakinan diri dalam aktiviti pengajaran dan pembelajaran bagi mencapai keputusan yang
cemerlang dalam Geografi di peringkat SPM. Dapatan soal selidik pula menunjukkan pelajar lebih
mengingati, memahami dan mudah belajar menggunakan video pembelajaran yang telah dikongsikan
oleh guru.

STUDY OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE USE OF LEARNING VIDEOS FROM
POWERPOINT SLIDES IN PDPR FORM 5 FOR GEOGRAPHICAL SKILLS TOPICS

(BUILDING PAI CHART)

ABSTRACT

The study was carried out to help Form 5 students master the topics studied in the KSSM syllabus of
Geography subjects, particularly those involving Geography skills during PdPR. This study included 17
students from Form 5 Uranus who studied Geography at SMK Riam, Miri, as well as a teacher.
Preliminary surveys using Pre-Tests revealed that the students were quite weak in the topic of
Constructing Pie chart. Students are assessed for the Pre Test by receiving one set of Geography Skills
Theme questions via telegram. According to survey results, students do not recall the process and
steps for creating a pie chart. Action planning focuses on methods to improve students' comprehension,
memory, and mastery, such as the use of learning videos created from PowerPoint slides. Students
were shown a video that had been uploaded to YouTube. Post-test results revealed an improvement in
student performance in creating conforming pie charts. Students are more likely to demonstrate a
positive attitude toward mastering the skills and to have self-confidence in teaching and learning
activities in order to achieve excellent SPM results in Geography. The results of the questionnaire
revealed that students remember more, understand more, and learn more easily when they watch
learning videos shared by teachers.

DALAM MENJAWAB SOALAN BENTUK MENGAPLIKASI DAN MENILAI DALAM

ABSTRAK

Fokus kajian ini adalah untuk membincangkan tentang teknik SABA bagi membantu murid yang lemah
dalam menjawab soalan KBAT subjek Sejarah di tingkatan 5 KS 1 dan 5 KS 2 di SMK Pujut. Hasil
tinjauan awal telah mendapati bahawa murid terdapat sekumpulan murid dilihat seringkali menghadapi
kesukaran untuk menjawab soalan KBAT sehingga menyebabkan mereka tidak menjawab soalan yang
berunsurkan KBAT sama ada dalam latihan mahupun peperiksaan. Hal ini secara langsung telah
menyumbang kepada kegagalan untuk memperoleh markah untuk lulus dalam peperiksaan. Respon
lisan daripada kumpulan sasaran juga menyatakan bahawa soalan KBAT dalam subjek Sejarah begitu
sukar untuk dijawab. Pelbagai usaha yang telah dilakukan oleh guru dalam memastikan pelajar
menjawab soalan KBAT dan salah satu teknik yang dilihat berkesan adalah teknik SABA. Justeru,
kajian ini akan membincangkan tentang pengaplikasian teknik SABA yang telah memperlihatkan impak
positif kepada murid terpilih di 5KS1 dan 5KS2 dalam menjawab soalan KBAT Sejarah.

HIGH LEVEL THINKING SKILLS (HLTS): APPLICATION OF ‘SABA’ TECHNIQUES IN
ANSWERINGQUESTIONS FORM OF APPLYING AND EVALUATING IN HISTORICAL

SUBJECTS

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research is to discuss SABA techniques for assisting weaker students in answering
KBAT questions in History in form 5 KS 1 and 5 KS 2 at SMK Pujut. Early survey results revealed that
there is a group of students who frequently have difficulty answering the KBAT question, causing them
not to answer the KBAT question elements in training or examination. It has directly contributed to the
failure to obtain sufficient marks to pass the examination. The target group's verbal response also stated
that the KBAT question in the History subject was extremely difficult to answer. Teachers have made
various efforts to ensure students answer the KBAT question, and one technique that has been found
to be effective is the SABA technique. As a result, this study will discuss the application of SABA
techniques that have demonstrated a positive impact on selected students in 5KS1 and 5KS2 in
answering KBAT History questions.
