the screws the same as the required nail spacing. The unthreaded
shank of the screw should extend beyond the thickness of the panel
to assure that the panel is pulled securely against the I-joist flange. Use
screws intended for structural assembly of wood structures. It is recom-
mended to use screws from a manufacturer that can provide an ICC-ES
Report with approved application specifications and design values.
Drywall screws can be brittle and should not be used.

RFPI®-Joist Web Hole Specifications

one of the benefits of using rFPi-Joists in residential floor and roof construction is that holes may
be cut in the joist webs to accommodate electrical wiring, plumbing lines and other mechanical
systems, therefore minimizing the depth of the floor system.

Holes For RFPI® Joist Used In Residential Floor/Roof Applications

Knockouts are prescored holes for the contractor’s convenience to install electrical or small plumbing lines.

They are 1Z\x” in diameter, and are spaced approximately 16” on center along the length of the I-joist.
Where possible, it is preferable to use knockouts instead of field cutting holes. For floor applications, position
the I‑joists so the knockouts are all on the bottom of the joist, making it easier to install electrical wiring or
residential sprinkler systems. DO NOT hammer holes in webs except at knockouts.

Notes:

1. Distances in this hole chart are based on uniformly loaded I-joists and allowable I-joist reactions without web stiffeners on minimum required bearing lengths. This chart
conservatively accounts for the worst case created by the allowable simple or multiple floor spans shown elsewhere in this guide at on-center spacings of 12”, 16”, 19.2”
and 24” with floor loads of 40 psf live load + 10 psf dead load or 40 psf live load + 20 psf dead load. Holes in conditions that fall outside of the hole chart parameters
(including the use of web stiffeners, longer bearing lengths or other loading conditions) may still be acceptable. The most accurate method of determining the acceptability
of a given hole is the use of appropriate software (e.g. RFP-KeyBeam® by Keymark Enterprises, LLC) or engineering analysis for the actual condition.

2. Hole location distance is measured from inside face of nearest support to center of hole.

3. SAF = Span Adjustment Factor for optional hole calculation, used as defined on this page.

OPTIONAL HOLE CALCULATION:

The Hole Chart is based on the I-joists being used at their maximum span. If the I‑joists are placed at less than their full allowable span as shown in Tables 1 & 2,
the minimum distance from the centerline of the hole to the inside face of the nearest joist support (D) as given above may be reduced as follows:

Dreduced = _La_c_tu_al_ x D
SAF
Where: Dreduced = Minimum distance from the inside face of the nearest joist support to center of hole, reduced for less-than-maximum span applications (ft).

Lactual = The actual measured span distance between the inside faces of supports (ft) (for multi-span joist, use the longest span for Lactual ).

SAF = Span Adjustment Factor given in Hole Chart.

D = The minimum distance from the inside face of the nearest joist support to center of hole from Hole Chart above.
If L_a_c_tu_al_ is greater than 1.0, use 1.0 in the above calculation.

RigidLam® LVL Floor Span Tables

Roseburg supports the installation of ½” gypsum wall board to the bottom of light-weight framing systems as required by Section R501.3
of the 2012 International Residential Code (IRC) and thus providing an economical layer of fire protection. However, when a gypsum wall
board ceiling is not a viable option, Roseburg RigidLam Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) with a minimum cross-section of 1-1/2” x 9-1/2” may
be used in lieu of 2x10 dimension lumber to meet exception 4 of Section R501.3 of the 2012 IRC and Section R302.13 of the 2015 IRC.

NOTES:
1. Spans are maximum clear distances between supports and are based on uniform loads.
2. Multiple span lengths shown require adequate lateral bracing of bottom edge of LVL.
3. Multiple spans are based on the longest span. The shortest span shall not be less than 40% of the longest span.
4. Live Load deflection is limited to L/480 or L/360 as indicated in the tables above. Total Load deflection is limited to L/240.
5. Spans do not reflect any additional stiffness provided by floor sheathing.
6. Spans are based on a minimum end bearing length of 1-3/4” and a minimum intermediate bearing length of 3-1/2” and the bearing capacity of SPF wall plate (425 psi)
7. Spans in bold italics are limited by intermediate bearing length of 3-1/2”. Use appropriate software to determine allowable span with longer intermediate bearing length.

LUMBER & MILLWORK RFPI®-Joist

Web Stiffener Requirements Web StiffeneR ReQuiRementS

a web stiffener is a block of plywood, osB, or even a 2x4 that is added to stiffen the i-joist’s web, increase the bearing surface
between the web and the flange, and provide additional support for a hanger or other connector. web stiffeners are common
with certain types of joist hanger installations, particularly in roof systems. they are typically placed at the end of the i-joist,
between the flanges and against both sides of the web. when used at end bearings, web stiffeners should be installed tight
against the bottom flange of the i-joist, but with a minimum 1/8” gap between the top of the stiffener and the bottom of the
top flange. web stiffeners must be made of utility grade SPF (south) or better for lumber and/or Sheathing grade
or better for wood structural panels.

when designed in accordance with the load/span conditions set forth in the tables in this guide,
rFPi-Joists do not require web stiffeners, with the following exceptions:
• when sides of the hangers do not laterally brace the top flange of each i-joist.

• For all engineered applications with design end reactions greater than 1550 lbs (1885 lbs for rFPi-90).

• Birds mouth cuts for roof joists.

• when i-joists are designed to support concentrated loads greater than 1000 lbs applied to the i-joist’s top
flange between supports. in these applications only, the gap between the web stiffener and the flange shall
be at the bottom flange.
(see Figure B below.)

web stiffeners may be cut in the field as required for the application.

LUMBER & MILLWORK Insulation

ROCKWOOL provides a range of products and solutions for exterior wall systems such as rain screen, cavity
wall, exterior continuous insulation, curtain wall, and wood frame and metal frame constructions.

ROCKWOOL insulation delivers a number of benefits beyond thermal performance in external walls, such as
best in class fire resistance, exceptional noise reduction, water repellence as well as vapor permeability, and
dimensional stability - meaning excellent fit and real world performance, for the lifetime of the building.

COMFORTBATT®

COMFORTBATT® is a stone wool insulation product for use in both new residential builds and

renovations. This semi-rigid batt has a unique flexible edge designed to compress as the batt is

inserted into walls, attics, ceilings and floor frames. The flexible edge springs back, expanding

the batt against the frame studs to give a complete fill. ROCKWOOL

COMFORTBATT® compensates for normal variations in stud centers caused by distortion or

warping. The special flexible characteristic at the insulation edge ensures that the expected R-

value is achieved.

SAFE'n'SOUND®

Fire & Soundproofing Insulation
SAFE‘n’SOUND® is a stone wool insulation product for use in interior wall partitions of
residential wood and steel stud construction. It is especially useful when superior fire
resistance and acoustical performance are required. This non-combustible, lightweight
product has excellent acoustical dampening properties and is dimensionally stable which
makes it ideal for friction fit in wall, ceiling and floor applications. The product is chemically
inert; therefore it will not promote corrosion.

Use Grace Ice & Water Shield on all of these critical areas You know the danger zones where most
roof leaks happen. Protect those areas with
Grace Ice & Water Shield, and you create a
self sealing barrier that neither melting snow
nor wind driven rain can penetrate through
or travel beneath. It takes surprisingly little
Grace Ice & Water Shield to make danger
zones safe. It adds very little to the cost of a
roofing job, but the benefits of using it are
obvious ... and important. That's why it's an
easy sell. The more danger zones a sloped
roof has, the more sense it makes to use
Grace Ice & Water Shield. It neutralizes the
danger zones in a way felts can't.

Ice Dams

Grace Ice & Water
Shield resists this leakage
because of the seal
around the fasteners,
ability to make watertight
laps, and the membrane's
bond to the deck.

Wind Driven Rain

Seals around nails or fasteners. Fully Grace Ice & Water Shield
adheres to deck, resisting leaks applied beneath the

INSTALLATION KEY POINTS, PLEASE REFER TO THE KLEER INSTALLATION GUIDELINES FOR COMPLETE DETAILS

EXPANSION & CONTRACTION

• Like many building materials, Kleer will expand and contract with changes in temperature. This is normal and is not covered by the Kleer
Limited Lifetime Warranty. Under normal conditions and when properly fastened, Kleer will expand/contract approximately 1/8" per 18'
length of Kleer. Failure to use the proper type and quantity of fasteners may result in expansion and contraction greater than 1/8" per 18'.

• Kleer trimboards should be acclimated to the temperature conditions at the TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT
time of installation. 1/16" 1/8"
>1/16" 90°
• Fastening Kleer along its entire length will help minimize expansion and contraction. >1/8"
1/16"
• When joining Kleer end-to-end (as in long-run applications) pieces may be joined
together using scarf joints and Kleer Cellular PVC Cement or Kleer Cellular PVC Adhesive. 50°
If joints are glued together, create 1/16" expansion spaces per 18' of run at each end.
These expansion spaces should be filled using Kleer Structural Sealant. >1/16"

Below 50°

• Alternatively, rather than gluing pieces together for long runs, leave expansion spaces of
approximately 1/8" between the pieces and fill with Kleer Structural Sealant. Use scarf joints
for all expansion spaces between the pieces in long runs and leave a 1/16" space per 18' of run at each end.

- On cold days (temperatures at low end of the normal annual temperature range), increase expansion space between boards to slightly
more than 1/8" per 18' length.

- On hot days (temperatures at high end of the annual temperature range), eliminate the expansion space and butt the pieces together tight.

FASTENING

• Fasten with stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized nails with blunt tips and round
heads (wood siding nails, box nails, etc.). Exterior coated or stainless steel trim-head
screws (nothing smaller than a #6 screw) and Cortex® Fasteners may also be used.

• Do not use staples, wire nails or brads to fasten Kleer. Fasteners that can be bent
with bare hands will not provide appropriate strength.

• Standard pneumatic nailers, set at 70-80 psi, may be used to fasten Kleer. 16"ON CENTER
Air pressure may be adjusted as necessary. 8"

• Pre-drilling is not typically required unless using large nails or installing in
temperatures below 40°.

• Fasten Kleer to a flat, solid wood substrate at least 1-1/2" thick using nails or
screws that penetrate into the substrate a minimum of 1-1/2".

• Kleer must have fasteners no more than 2" from each edge.

• Kleer trimboards 8" or narrower require two fasteners evenly spaced across the face of the 16" ON CENTER 2" MAX 2" MAX
board and fastened to 1-1/2" thick framing no more than 16" on-center. 10" and 12" Kleer 2" MAX 2" MAX

to 1-1/2" thick framing no more than 16" on-center. When spanning framing greater than
16" on-center, use Kleer that is a minimum 5/4" (nominal) thickness. Never install Kleer on
framing that spans greater than 24" on-center.

WOOD DECKING PRODUCTS

LUMBER & MILLWORK

Western Red Cedar

Western Red Cedar is reddish brown and ages
to asilvery gray. The soft wood splinters easily, but
holds up well in the rain, sun, heat, and cold. To
add beauty and durability to your cedar deck, be
using a penetrating stain.

Mahogany

Mahogany is a tight-grain harwood that resists pests
and rot. Treat it with marine oil and it looks like teak.
Or, let your mahogany deck age to a silvery hue.

Composite Decking

Modern alternatives for outdoor decking include plas-
tic polymer and wood-polymer composites. Synthetic
materials are virtually bug-proof and rot proof.

Fir

Fir is a sometimes-wavy grained softwood, with a
medium to fairly coarse texture. Yellowish to orange-
red heartwood and whitish to reddish white sapwood.
Typically free of knots and moderate to high strength,
moderate shock resistance, and high stiffness.
