The landmarks are also showing the transformation of Sentul now. It is very
obvious and easy to recognise the modern and new landmarks that are stand-
ing among all those traditional and historical shophouses, religious buildings
or housing. This has created a contrast view towards Sentul city and giving a
speciality and characteristics to it.
In short, all of the uniqueness and characteristics that are created by current
landmarks are strong evidences to show that Sentul is under the process of
transition at this moment.

Even though the five-foot way and pedestrian walkways are commonly being
misused for public activities, this creates an interesting streetscape for the
visitors, forming the identity of that area.
Besides that, it is obvious that the New Development District lacks the robust-
ness as compared to the Old Mixed-use Districts and Service Commercial
Districts due to the lack of active building front. It does not interact with the
street users except for D6 and D7 that tries to engage the pedestrian with the
open landscape area.
In conclusion, more robust outdoor spaces should be provided in this region to
induce more street activities at the same time improving the social connectivity.

2.3.5 SUMMARY
Conversion of the architecture style changing the urban fabric
of Sentul
Shop houses formed the majority of the urban fabric around 1950s. However,
shop house topology is being obsoleted in the Sentul city’s transformation.
With the erection of high rise buildings around Sentul, part of the shop houses
in Sentul is not fully utilized.
Depreciation of traditional shop house in modern building
During 1945, majority of traditional shop houses were destroyed. Local site
content has been shifted due to the erection of modern and contemporary
building. Conservation and restoration of traditional shop houses had not been
done in Sentul. Modern building did not inherit the characteristic of traditional
shop houses.

Most part of Sentul are still covered
in greens. The new development in
Sentul provides a good landscape
design principles, investing for a good
future urban centre. Some green area
in Sentul are turned into parks such
as Sentul Park. Old trees are well
preserved in the area. These trees
provide big canopy shades in some
major area in Sentul. On the weakness
side, there is no buffer zone between
pedestrian walkway and vehicular
road which can lead to safety issues,
e.g. Jalan Enam. Some green area
are abandoned, created an unpleas-
ant view to the area which can cause
several problems such as mosquitoes
and insects breeding area.
