So, the first issue
has landed. And for some of you, it
landed, and landed, and landed.
Due to some difficulties with the
internet, the file being way too large
and, yes, some of the
Publisher’s limited knowledge
about what she was doing (I’m
learning), you may have received
way too many emails (or none).
I’m hoping that will
improve with this issue.
Thanks so much for your patience.
Here we go with our 2nd issue -
with lots of new info!
Don’t forget to pass along to any
friends of yours who may wish to

CHARACTERS:
QUEEN AGGRAVAIN: Very protective of her only son,
Dauntless. She is a strong character that takes the stage
with her presence. She is overbearing, lively,
domineering, but should be played comically. Adult
Female (Age 40-60s) strong singer. Alto
PRINCESS WINNIFRED the Woebegone. She is not the
“classical” princess in any sense of the word. She can
swim moats, lift weights and she prefers the swamps of
home to a fancy castle. She is energetic, adventurous,
independent and optimistic. Adult Female (Age 20s -
flexible) Mezzo/Soprano
PRINCE DAUNTLESS: Still a “mama’s boy”, but it is
evident that he is ready to move on. He is child-like,
naïve, with a likeable sense of innocence. He adores
Winnifred and is in awe of her every step. Male (Age 20+ -
flexible) Baritone
LADY LARKEN - A classic beauty. She is graceful,
charming, and in love with Sir Harry. She is very eager for
Dauntless to marry so she can wed Harry before her little
bundle arrives. She is eager to please and would never
cause embarrassment to her love, Sir Harry. (Age 20s –
flexible) Strong singer, Soprano (sings the romantic
ballads)
AUDITIONS ONCE UPON A MATTRESS Auditions (cont’d
SIR HARRY: He is a handsome and masculine knight,
but quite pompous - a bit of a “stuffed shirt”. He
fancies that he may one day become the Prime
Minister, if he can find a Princess to marry Dauntless,
so he can wed Lady Larkin. He is chivalrous, brave,
determined but a bit taken with himself. Think Dudley
Do-Right. Adult male (Age 20s - 30s) Strong singer.
Tenor
MINSTREL: Functions as the narrator and has a direct
link to the audience and is attractive and “wordily”.
Has an air of confidence and enjoys telling the real
story to the audience. He is likeable and cunning
when he need be. Works at foiling the Queen’s plans.
Strong singer. Tenor
JESTER: Must be flexible, agile and full of energy.
Has a hidden passion for show business and the
“good old days.” His loyalty lies with his friends, the
King and the Minstrel. Strong singer. Tenor. Dancer
and special talents (juggling, gymnast) a bonus.
WIZARD: The Queen’s Loyal Confidante. He is
magical and mysterious and is able to do several
magic tricks. He possesses a sense of showmanship.
Kind of a buffoon, though. Primarily a speaking role.
KING SEXTIMUS, THE SILENT: He is mute, due to a
curse, but you always know what he is thinking. He is
expressive, mischievous and playful. Mature adult
male. Primarily a mimed role - strong facial and
physical comedy.
LARGE ENSEMBLE: Group of dynamic, energetic
characters to help carry the show. They are the
knights and ladies of the Court. Lots of singing,
dancing, and comedy. All ages welcome.

On Sunday, August 14th, I drove with HELEN TECHLER &
my daughters to my dear Dee's JERRY SLUTSKY
"Dancing into the Light" memorial. In
those moments as I got closer to the
theater, the more I wanted to turn
back. I thought the sadness would
overwhelm me and that it just would
bring back memories that were too
difficult to remember. Instead, from
the moment my daughters and
I walked through the door, I realized
that it was a celebration and now there
was joy in those memories. Every
speaker spoke of a different chapter
or experience with my dear Dee.
Whether it was a memory or a
performance, each one just brought
me incredible joy and helped me
celebrate the amazing 97 years of
brightness that was beautiful Dee.
I cannot thank everyone enough for
making this memorial a celebration
and a memory that will always stay
with me and my daughters. I know
that every time I attend another play,
Dee will always be beside
me, enjoying the performance along
with me. My love and appreciation to
everyone.

PLAY/MUSICAL: RENT
I visited some of my dear friends last night in NYC -
Cody Carlson, Topher Warren, Latoya McCormick,
and they introduced me to a LOT of their friends in
RENT. FANTABULOUS!
Beginning with Matthew Morris who I could listen to
all day long. To say he is a talent is certainly an
understatement. More like an all-hit wonder. His
voice resonates long after a song is finished and he
makes the lyrics sound as if he wrote them himself
from real-life experience. Topher Warren made me
wonder when was the last time I really cried. “I’ll
Cover You” was perfection. Cody Carlson. If you
watch Cody, even when he is not the focus character,
he’s in character. Always. He’s that good. And
when he is in focus? He’s that much more - the voice
and energy is unbounding. Like he sucked it from a
hole In the stage beneath his feet and used it like a
generator. He gives his all.
Liberty Mack and Sarah Roehm are such a terrific
pair, especially during “Take Me Or Leave Me.” They
play off of and with each other so well, it’s hard to tell
where one ends and the other begins. Great
connection makes for great affection and they have it
in spades.
Now, what gem do we have in Shelly Johnson? Each
and every time she enters a scene, I sit up straighter.
I want to hear every word and lyric; see every head
toss or sexy walk; and most of all - her voice, oh
man, her voice. So powerful, even in the quietest of
ballads such as “Without You.” She is a powerhouse
of a singer, actress, and presence that EOT is lucky
enough to have. Thank you for sharing her with us.

I would be remiss not to mention the unique talents of
David Eaton, Jr. who brought Angel to life in a very
special way. You made us love her as only you could.
Latoya McCormick only has but to sing a few bars and
she can bring the house down and that’s exactly what
she dId. We just love a Latoya!

SHOW REVIEW THEATRE: CARROLLWOOD PLAYERS
PLAY/MUSICAL: THE ODD COUPLE (female version)
I knew I was in for a few laughs going in to review THE
ODD COUPLE (female version), but I didn’t expect that
I was going be guffawing my way non-stop! This
production was one of the funniest version ever!
Penni Willen was perfectly cast as Florence Unger.
With her “moose calls” to clear her head to her
constant fidgeting, she fit her character to a tee. Jen
Martin as Olive Madison was every bit a “slob” and her
spaghetti throw was perfect slapstick. You just knew
she was up to something… but that? Oh, boy!
Stephanie Russell Krebs as Vera had me in stitches!
She had but a few interspersed lines here and there, but
did she make the most of them. Every time she opened
her mouth I just about died. Her sight gag with a
sandwich was just hysterical!

SHOW REVIEW In the second act, I was thrilled when the doorbell rang
and as the door opened, draped over the top of the door-
way were the Costazuela Brothers! Smarmy was the only
word which immediately came to mind. But funny? OMG.
Shut-the-front-door laugh fest! Stu Sanford as Manolo
Costazuela just oozed that charm that you just couldn’t
resist and at the same time laughed out loud at! Stephen
Todd Crickmore as Jesus Costazuela, his brother, so
slippery he just seemed to slide rather than walk. Their
scenes with Olive and Flo were the highlight of the play.
The Trivial Pursuit girls - Se’a Ryan, Amy Lyn Howell,
and Alicia Spiegel added the right amount of comedy to
this crazy bunch of women who met every Friday night to
gossip and chit-chat themselves away from their
otherwise boring lives.
Kudos to director Marc Sanders, stage manager Miguel
Rodriguez, and producer Jim Russell. I know it was a
challenging show and schedule - thumbs up to all of you!
THEATRE: S*A*G*E*S*
PLAY/MUSICAL: PHONEY BALONEY
What an amazing performance. Where else can you
laugh while you learn than at S*A*G*E*S*? This original
play-with-purpose was written by Judy Landis. Who else
can make phone scams so entertaining and funny while
teaching each of us what we need to be cautious of? We
are often too honest and want to help others but we
can’t do that when we don’t ask questions and act
smartly. We should all have Scammer Beware helpers
who really bring sense to some of the happy-go-lucky,
trust-anyone cast members. The discussion and Q&A
that followed the performance by law enforcement and
consumer protection experts gave tips that we should
always keep in mind tin order to avoid the typical scams
happening nowadays. My sincere thanks to Linda
Goldman, Judy Landis, Christine Hamacher and all those
amazing professionals.
SSHHOOWW RREEVVIIEEWW THEATRE: WEST COAST PLAYERS
PLAY/MUSICAL: PERFECT WEDDING
Marriages aren’t always perfect and neither are
weddings, but this production of PERFECT WEDDING
was pretty much on-the-spot perfect! Just try to keep up
with the ever-changing characters in the plot during this
crazy show! Julie, Judy, the maid, the girlfriend, the
bride, the bride’s friend, er uh the bride’s husband’s
girlfriend, and the fiancé’s best man’s girlfriend. Whew!
And they’re in and out of rooms left and right, in and out,
round and round - I was dizzy, I tell ya! But this cast was
so good! Take Jason Ensor as Tom (the best man) - he
never skipped a beat. I almost needed closed-captions
to keep up with him. Lightning speed words and
movement he must be exhausted after every show. He is
one to contend with. Eric Weber as Bill (the groom) -
right on from the very start. Caught in bed with
someone, but who is she? Don’t even ask. OK, well it’s
Sonali Balan as Judy (a very attractive girl). Both of
them have that charisma with each other that you just
know they belong. Next in comes Makailyn Barry as
Rachel (the Bride). Oh, you know there’s gonna be
trouble now. Of course, everyone juuuust keeps missing
one another as doors keep opening and closing at the
same time to avoid seeing the other person.
It’s plain hilarious! Now, throw in Abby Littleton as Julie
(the chambermaid) - who looks uncannily like Anna
Kendrick - she tries in vain to keep everyone on the up
and up. And don’t forget the bride’s mother (played by
Christina Carlee) coming in to make sure it’s that perfect
wedding!
Thank you to director Jamie Bierchen for bringing this
precious comedy to West Coast Players. It’s a gem of
laughter.
We were grateful to a night of joy and happiness.

Dunedin Showcase Theater - Director Mike Cote is pleased to announce
the cast of the upcoming October production of Paul Freed's hysterical
murder mystery DEATH BY CHOCOLATE. Leading the pack, as famous
chocolatier and health spa owner Lady Riverdale, is Barbara Gaspar. The
new, rather snarky, manager of the spa will be portrayed by Graham Muir
and their underappreciated secretary Dyslexia by Susan Dearden. Ralph
Deadwood, the gym manager and all-around cad will be played by
Jermaine Foster while aerobics instructor and Richard Simmons wannabe,
Dick Simmering will be brought to life by Jeff Holstein. Chef Edith Chiles
and head of the maintenance staff Alfred Mellox will be played by Marina
Spears and Bruce Taylor, respectively. Rounding out the staff will be Julia
Roberts (no not that one) as spa nurse Anne, and Candice Kruse as
Sweetpea Meadowbrook as the daughter of the former owner of the spa.
Add in Jeanene MacLean as snoopy investigative reporter Margaret
Daniels, Jim Green as budding playwright Ed Parlor, and a questionable
box of chocolates, and you have the recipe for a wonderful evening/
afternoon of theater.
Summary: Members of the newly renovated Meadowbrook Health Resort
are dropping like flies, including famed chef Edith Chiles! On the eve of the
grand re-opening, this is not the best advertisement. It’s up to John Stone,
the manager, to find the cause and the murderer. Delightfully sarcastic and
cynical, Stone finds himself teaming up with Ed Parlor, mystery writer and
amateur sleuth, in a wacky race against time. The clues point to a sinister
box of chocolates, and the suspects include all the outlandish characters
working for the resort. Could it be Lady Riverdale, owner of the resort and a
woman with dark secrets? Or Ralph Deadwood, gym instructor and
all-around cad? Dick Simmering, the aerobics instructor? Anne, the
panic-stricken nurse? Or could it be “Sweet Pea” Meadowbrook,
overweight and grieving daughter of the recently deceased founder of the
resort? Death by Chocolate combines all the elements of classic murder
mysteries with a scathing satire of today’s health crazes.
The show runs October 6-9 at the Dunedin Community Center with
performances starting at 7:30 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 3:00
pm on Sunday. Tickets are $15.00 and are available at the door.

musicals!), in a time when water is
worth its weight in gold. Winner of
three Tony Awards, three Outer
Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille
Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards,
URINETOWN is a hilarious musical
satire of the legal system, capitalism,
social irresponsibility, populism,
bureaucracy, corporate mismanage-
ment, municipal politics and musical
theatre itself! Hilariously funny and
touchingly honest, Urinetown
provides a fresh perspective on one
of America's greatest art forms.
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water
shortage, caused by a 20-year
drought, has led to a government-
enforced ban on private toilets. The
Tammy Lukas as Penelope Pennywise citizens must use public amenities,
Nick Wilbur as Bobby Strong regulated by a single malevolent
company that profits by charging ad-
mission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero
decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to
freedom! Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown
is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny.
Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Uri-
netown catapults the "comedic romp" into the new millennium with its out-
rageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and sustained ability to produce
gales of unbridled laughter.
The show runs September 9-18, 2022. Tickets are available on the

Psst… I’m pretty sure there
has to be some kind of theatre
rule that you cannot appear in
multiple productions almost
“simultaneously”. We’re not one
to name names, but GEORGIA
KOSLOSKI has been seen
cavorting in no less than THREE
stages as shown below in the oh
-so-recent past. I, for one,
can say I am pooped just
reporting on this rule infraction.
So, for the
future, Mrs. K,
can you please
give us all a
warning so that
we may prepare
ourselves
accordingly
before you take
on such
back-breaking
thespianism.
Thank you dear.
