Video Game Designer
My career field is video game designing. The reasons I am studying this career is because
it is the only career that somehow related to art. I’m not a real big video game person like, I don’t
play games every day. Photography is my main career but I guess video game designer would be
my second choice. And the only reason it would be my second choice is because it still has
something to do with modern technology.
In 1973 Arguably, their biggest success was Traveler which took the traditionally fantasy
realm of RPG's and placed it in a futuristic setting mixing roleplaying with strategy-like space
combat. Video game designer's Workshop dissolved in 1996. Also in 1961 - A MIT student,
Steve Russell, creates the first interactive game, Space wars, played on mainframe computers.
Later on in 1971 Nolan and ted (founders of Atari) released a game called computer space.
Computer space was the first video game released in arcades. After more games like Pac man,
pong, donkey Kong, and space invaders, games became more advanced and start playing on
consoles and computers. In 2001, Microsoft jumped into the next generation console wars with
their introduction of the Xbox. The Xbox was not only graphically superior to the PlayStation,
but also featured an internal hard drive and access to a robust online multiplayer network called
Xbox Live. Now in 2018 the Xbox has made a huge change with better technology and higher
approval ratting’s.

Demand for Video Game Designers is expected to go up, with an expected 7,940 new
jobs filled by 2018. This represents an annual increase of 11.59 percent over the next few years.
Because of the growth rate of video game designers they have to keep up with certain trends.
One of the most popular trends are virtual reality. Virtual reality puts you into the game, it makes
you feel like you’re actually there. Most people that create games for virtual reality stay in San
Francisco. But that’s just inside the United States, other countries such as Canada, England, and
china have a lot of game designer who also d virtual reality.

The work of a games designer typically involves:
● Coming up with new and appealing game ideas
● Developing gameplay ideas
● Experimenting with themes and genres
● Improving existing games
● Coming up with ways of winning and losing the game

Hours/travel are usually work a set schedule. Most video game designer never really rest
because they know there is room for improvement and changes. Most schedule are work based
home qualified. Most game designer do work at home or at a studio. And when doing work in
studios and such they usually have people to partner with to come up with ideas and thoughts.

There is not really a lot of qualifications to be a video game designer. You don’t have to
be a certain gender, age, nor have to be in any certain physical shape. It would help if you have a
good personality. Because nobody wants to work with somebody with a bad personality or

attitude. One qualification you will need to have some is some experience working in computer
science, programing, or art. Also another qualification is earning a bachelor’s degree and
graduate high school. The most common way to become a video game designer is to go through
a school that deals with computer science, art, or programing.

The salary for video game designers differ. Some make less than $38,520 and that’s less
than 10%. The average video game designer makes about $65,300. The highest a game designer
can make is just about $115,960 but can make more. And that’s the high 10% of developers

Some befits of becoming a video game designer are that you work in enthusiastic
environment. You also get to use your creative skills and imagination. But the most important
part is that your career is fun and exciting.

And there is always advancement for this career. Because technology is always
improving and becoming better and better each day. The only thing about advancing in this
career is that it requires for you train even harder for the career. You could continue your
education in this career if you want to be better than you already was after you finished the first
circular term.

To be honest I’m not really interested in this career because I don’t really see myself
being a video game designer. I am an artist but I don’t want design games, I just like drawing for
the fun of it and as I stated in the begging I am really in photography and that’s kind of it.
