PROFILE

Name: Aisyah binti Anesee
ID: 012021021484
Course: Bachelor in English
Language & Literature (BELS)

Second-ye
ar language and literature
student who, at the start of the
semester, was very nervous from
seeing this subject name in the
class list as she's not a TESL
student.

PERSONAL PRINCIPLE IN TEACHING

My personal stand in teaching involves beliefs
and standards that I had built after years of

experiencing school and multiple types of
educators.

1. I want to make my students feel acknowledged
and validated whenever they respond to me. As
lfionxgwarsontghaenaspwperrosawciht
ihsouatppmarkoiprngiatmye,sItudweonultds
feel scared of me.

2. I want to create an environment with healthy
competition amongst peers.

3. I want my students to become active in class
in terms of participation and energy.

2

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
OVERALL REACTION

At the start of the semester, I was
slightly dreading about joining this class.
I knew about the basis of this class, which

was the techniques of teaching. Hearing
about the mock teaching assessment during
the briefing on the first day also made me
worried. As a BELS student, I knew I had to

'compete' with hundreds of other TESL
students, so I felt intimidated.

Attending the classes really gave me a
deeper insight on how
complicated it is to

conduct a class. The work does not only
consist of the teaching part, but it's

largely about the planning process.

After having finished all assessments, I
can't help but feel accomplished and
satisfied with my works. Despite the

struggles, I managed to finish this on a
colourful note.

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 1

Monday, 4/7/22 (Lecture)

Reflection: This was the very first lecture of this subject. The
lecturer, Madam Nirmala first introduced the students with the

scheme of work so the students could grasp the gist of the
different kinds of assessments that will happen. The lecturer
explained to the students in great detail what we should be
prepared for. To end the class, some simple homework was
given for the students to find out the difference between the
older education system KBSM, and the newer one KSSM. The

next question was to find out what CEFR is.

4

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 1

Tuesday 5/7/22 (Lecture)

Reflection: In this second lecture session, Madam Nirmala
started off by discussing the homework given from the

previous day with the students. The benefits of KSSM was
emphasized as it is the current and updated education
format. Next, she guided us in the process of creating a
lesson plan, which is essential for future educators. A

template of lesson plan was projected on the screen, where
each component was one by one discussed with the students.
Reminders and tips were given to fill out each part. Students
learned the textbook is an important element for this, hence it

should be used for reference.

5

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 1

Wednesday, 6/7/22 (Tutorial)

Reflection: The class started off with the lecturer, Madam Izzati
dividing the students into several groups. Each group was to
answer one question assigned about concepts that have been

taught in previous lecturers. Topics related include KSSM, KBSM,
CEFR, and 21st century learning. Each group prepared and

provided answers that were discussed together. Then, volunteers
answered additional questions that were completed individually.

It was a very productive tutorial session because the
participation of students was active. Originally, a quiz session
was supposed to be held after this task, but it was canceled

due to time constraints.

6

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 1

Thursday, 7/7/22 (Tutorial)

Reflection: The tutorial started off with a brief go-through of the lesson plan.
Madam Izzati explained each component to make sure all students are clear on

what to include in the template. Most of them were experienced with this
concept and understood what to do, but some needed extra guidance as this is
their first time. Next, students were asked to visit this website which consists of
the scheme of works for all subjects unde
r all levels of education from primary to
secondary schools. This is very essential to complete the lesson plan. For the rest

of the period, students were asked to start working on their own lesson plans
which will be presented next week.

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 2

Tuesday, 12/7/22 (Lecture)

Reflection: Madam Nirmala started off with the class by
highlighting the difference between learning outcomes and
learning objectives. Objective
s are the teacher’s intention of
meeting the goals by the end of the lesson. Outcomes on the
other hand are the plans of the teacher for the students to be

able to do in the lesson. It is easier to use the SMART
acronyms as a guide to creating the perfect objectives.
Learning outcomes are beneficial to both parties, teachers
and students in the sense that it improves the overall teaching
experience based on the effective course design. Next,
Madam Nirmala highlighted the three educational domains.
Lastly, students were asked to create a story according to the

6 levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

I think this was a very productive lesson due to its high
importance.

8

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 2

Wednesday, 13/7/22 (Tutorial)

Reflection: Madam Izzati assigned a quiz that was answered

collectively with all students. This was a brief session to recap topics 1

and 2 into students. Next, the lecturer briefed on the most effective

wgauyidoefcbaulilleddinAgBleCaDr,nSintgudoebnjetsctwivee
rse. Students learned about a helpful
then assigned a task to come up

with 3 different learning objectives based on the learning standard

and content standard of our choice. Students were to work in pairs

and submit the end product on Padlet by the end of the class time.

Personally I really liked this activity because I was paired with a student
that has experience in making lesson plans. I learned greatly about how

important having an organized objectives is.

9

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 2

Thursday, 14/7/22 (Tutorial)

Reflection: Students were asked to present the tutorial task done
in class time yesterday. As the focus is on the learning objectives,
students were asked to elaborate on each objective according to

the ABCD guide. Any mistakes done by the presenters were
discussed together between the
lecturer and the other students.

Personally, I liked the fact that our works were assessed
thoroughly by Madam Izzati because I know the importance of
having a clear-cut set of learning objectives, especially for the

lesson plan.

10

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 3

Monday, 18/7/22 (Lecture)

Reflection: Madam Nirmala recapped the elements in coming
up with learning objectives, which are ABCD guide, Bloom’s
Taxonomy. All students watched an example video of a
teacher in the process of set induction. Students and the

lecturer discussed the effectiveness of the set induction shown
and the importance of grasping the attention of the students
at the start of a lesson is highlighted. Then, students are shown

four strategies to create a perfect set induction.

In my opinion, the lesson was easy to follow partly because I
knew it was the start of creating the lesson plan, which was

important for my assessments.

11

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 3

Tuesday, 19/7/22 (Lecture)

Reflection: Students started the lesson by watching a set
induction example video and identifying the four strategies, and

whether they were present or
not. We also learned that the
purpose of teaching aids is to help students understand the

context of the lesson.

Lastly, students wrote on the
whiteboard online

applications, softwares, and
websites that can help in

students’ learning process. I
loved this session because it
gave an insight of the many
different tools I have never
heard of, which I can use for

my own projects

12

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 3

Wednesday, 20/7/22 (Tutorial)

Reflection: Students were asked to prepare for the set
induction of the lesson plan made in the first week.

Volunteers presented their set induction in class, just like
how they would actually teach it to a group of students.
This provided me with great expectation of what a good

set induction should be like. Madam Izzati gave
constructive feedback to how each group's set induction

could improve, or had done well on.
I focused very well during this session because I very much
appreciated any kind of feedback regarding the creation

of lesson plans.

13

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 3

Thursday, 21/7/22 (Tutorial)

Reflection: Students were asked to come up with a
teaching material that can be used for 3 different
activities. It must be according to the topic, theme, and

skills chosen by the students themselves.

Personally, this was a very interesting activity for me
because it had more creativity involved than past tasks.
It was very fun discussing with my group members about

what kind of teaching aid would work best.

14

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 4

Monday, 25/7/22 (Lecture)

Reflection: In class today, we learned that stimulus variation is a way
to enhance children’s learning. For example, adding an element of
surprise every few minutes to keep them interested. With this in mind,

students were asked to give some ideas of stimulus variants which can
be used in class to the jamboard link provided. The answers were one-

by-one discussed with the Madam Nirmala on its function and
effectiveness. We learned about f
actors of students' engagement,
and also component skills of stimulus variation, which refer to

classroom management techniques.

I liked the interactive second activity because again, it gave
me more ideas from other students which is useful for my
assessments.

15

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 4

Tuesday, 26/7/22 (Lecture)

Reflection: The lecture was about the different questioning techniques

and variations, which are a part of the stimulus variation. We used the
infographic of COVID-19 symptoms as a guide. I learned that a good
questions should be unambiguous, properly directed, comprehensive, thought
provoking, and relevant. We can start asking questions by applying the

Bloom's Taxonomy, lower level questions are to evaluate students'
comprehension, diagnose strengths and weaknesses, and review and
summarise content. Higher level is to encourage critical thinking, solve
problem, and encourage discussions. We also learned about open and closed

questions.

Madam Nirmala provided us with strategies when student do not respond to
questions, which I think is very useful information. Lack of participation from

students is bound to happen, so I think it's good to prepare ourselves.

16

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 4

Thursday, 28/7/22 (Tutorial)

Reflection: Students were asked to present their teaching
aids that were made in class on 21st of July. Each group had
to present as if the real class was being conducted. This was

also another fun step in preparing for the practicum. Even
though as a BELS student I am not required to go through the
teacher training, I learned how to give clear instructions and

manage teaching aids in class.

17

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 5

Monday, 1/8/22 (Lecture)

Reflection: Madam Nirmala started off the class with the topic of
reinforcement, which are actions to make a target behaviour more likely to
occur in the future. Positive reinforcements is adding something pleasant or

desirable to make a target behaviour occur more in the future. while
negative reinforcement is taking something unpleasant/undesirable away to

also make the target behaviour happen more.

Reinforcers are incentives (reward or removal of undesirable things) given to
students after they display expected behaviour. It increases students’
continued demonstration. Punishments are to decrease undesirable
behaviour.

Students were then asked to work together in groups and provide examples
for student reinforcers.

18

MICROTEACHING CLASS:
WEEK 5

Tuesday, 2/8/22 (Lecture)

Reflection: In today's class, students learned about closure, which is the

last step to wrap up a lesson and help students gain information in a

meaningful context. The purpose of closure is to make sure the learning

outcomes are met, obpripeof rotvuenritviieeswt,or

PROJECT 1: USING MULTIMEDIA IN
TEACHING

Wednesday, 3/8/22 (Presentation)

Reflection: This project was a group work between 5 members.
Each group was to create 5 lesson plans that each should cover
the four language skills, as well as literature. The point is to come
up with an effective set of teaching aids and present it in front of

the class.

Personal thought: This was the first time I ever made a lesson plan
for an assessment and I was very nervous to be professionally

assessed. I also had to think of productive teaching materials as
an individual, which was quite new for me. After having done the

first project, I felt that I could have approached my product
better, but I'm glad everything went well.

PROJECT 2: TASK A (MOCK TEACHING)

Thursday, 18/8/22 (Presentation)

Reflection: This second project is for students to conduct a mock
teaching according to the skill and level of student assigned by the
lecturer. As a BELS student, I received the skill Literature in Action
for Form 2. Instead of the usual 1 hour lesson, students were asked

to only create a lesson plan of 15 minutes, which consists of set
induction, one activity, and closure.

Personal thought: As a student who has little to no experience in
planning for a real-life lesson, this was the most nerve-wrecking
assessment for me. I spent quite some time planning and building
the lesson plan I was most satisfied with. During the presentation,
there were some things I wish I had done differently. I listened to

the feedback given by the lecturer and took notes on future
improvements. It was still a fun experience regardless.
