Fractals

Fractals are the building block of many of
nature’s patterns and have been scientifically
proven to reduce stress and provide benefits
to physical health. This visual language is the
basis for our fractal collections designed by
13&9 in collaboration with Fractals Research,
Dr. Richard Taylor of the University of Oregon
and Mohawk Group.

RELAXING FLOORS
This collection is the culmination of art,
science, and human-centered design based
on fractal patterns; utilizing fractals to give our
eyes a break from the digital world and deliver
the essence of nature to the contract-built
environment.

FRACTAL FLUENCY
The design concept is based on the “fractal
fluency” model, which declares that human
vision has become fluent in the visual language
of nature’s fractals and can process their
features efficiently, creating an aesthetic
experience accompanied by a decrease in the
observer’s physiological stress levels.
