From The Principal’s Desk

Family is the basic social unit and the most important influence of a child. As
Michael J Fox said it aptly, “Family is not an important thing, it’s everything.”
Families are like branches on a tree, growing in different directions, taking
different shapes and forms but under a single root.

Value can be defined as the quality, quantity, worth of a thing, but family values
are the age-old traditional, cultural, moral, ethical values, ideas beliefs and
practices followed in a systematic way by our predecessors and passed down to
the GEN. NEXT with all dignity and respect.

In olden days, the male member of the house was the only breadwinner of the
family. Mother stayed indoors, helping their wards to do their daily chores.
After finishing their homework children used to go out for playing with
neighbours, which was their only entertainment. They prayed together, worked
together, dined together. Festivals were celebrated with great pomp, splendor,
and fervor and with the active participation of dear and near ones.

However, in this fast-paced life and e-tech era both parents have to work to
support the monetary needs of the family. They are constrained by time to
teach the very basics of family values and discipline to their kids. Children
resort to mobile phones and video gaming as hobbies and slowly get addicted to
internet, surfing the forbidden sites. Thus starts the erosion of moral and
cultural values.

Let me sum up this. Due to the negative impact of technological advancement, we
have allowed technology to rob us of our time, energy, money and to some
extend our family values and culture and became slaves to modern amenities.
Technology if used judiciously is a boon to humankind. Let us all strive together
to use the technological advancement in a befitting way to society so that it
doesn’t take away from us our cultural and family values which we preserve for
our posterities for a better and beautiful world.
