A Beacon of Hope in Nicaragua

Camila D. is five years old and lives near Lake Managua, the most polluted lake in
Central America. She remembers just a few months ago when there were roadblocks
throughout the capital, gunfire heard throughout the day and night, and hearing about
people from her town who had been detained and jailed by the police. Her parents,
like 80% of Nicaragua’s population, earn less than $2 per day, and even that meager
income is threatened due to an economic collapse following heavy civil unrest in April
2018. Already the 2nd poorest country in the Western Hemisphere before the
uprising, life is not easy for her family. Thankfully, tension throughout the country has
been easing over the past few months and life seems to be slowly returning to the way
it used to be. Camila looks forward to going to preschool each day. Despite its tin roof
and walls and lack of air conditioning, preschool provides a stable routine as well as a hot meal. Her parents are so proud and thankful
that she is able to get an education to improve her opportunities in life.

God’s Footprints in Nicaragua (GFN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that serves 91 preschoolers ages three to five in
San Sebastián, Managua, Nicaragua by providing education, meals, and God’s love. Learn more at https://www.godsfootprints.org/

We all remember the pictures of the devastation of Mexico Beach after Hurricane
Michael. Many of us even have friends or family members who suffered loss.
Businesses and homes suffered severe damage or simply disappeared. Churches
did not escape Michael’s wrath. We were made aware of the needs of
First UMC of Mexico Beach and found a way to assist in their recovery.

The church faced several pressing needs as they attempt to rebuild, including many Thanks to Tara Carr for providing recent pictures
doors and windows. Insurance didn’t cover much of their losses. Because of your of the rebuild of First UMC, Mexico Beach
faithfulness in Faith Promise Giving for missions, the Missions Committee approved
money ($865) to purchase new double doors between the Narthex and the Sanctuary.
We hope to further assist Mexico Beach First UMC’s recovery as they refurnish their
building. The congregation is once again able to meet in their building, but they are
requested to bring their own chairs!
