Farewell from the Senior Pastor

Dear Friends,
Thank you so very much for welcoming me as one of your pastors four years ago. I
immediately discovered this family of faith to be extraordinarily warm, inviting,
generous and talented. The Lord has gifted you all in so many remarkable ways which
are being used every day for God’s kingdom. It has been a privilege to serve alongside
you. Thank you for being who you are and for loving God and neighbor.
Later this month, I will begin serving my next appointment as pastor of Evergreen
UMC in Leesburg. The people will be new and I will have to learn a lot of new things.
Worship will be different. Meetings will be different. The flow of community life will
be different. I won’t know where they keep the vacuum cleaner. I know, though, that
the same Christ is Lord there just as Christ is Lord here.

Christ will continue to be Lord here. Your new senior pastor, The Rev. Rob Robertson, is very eager to
meet you. He already loves you, and he will bring his life with Christ to intersect with your life with
Christ. I know you will be a blessing to him just as he will bless you. Thank you for continuing to
minister to one another in the years to come. May God’s peace be with you all.
Your Fellow Minister in Christ,

Mark Mrini

Sunday School End-of-Year Celebration

Our Sunday School End-of-Year Celebration will be held on Sunday, June 9 during the 9:45 a.m. service
to give thanks to God for all wonderful blessings throughout the school year and recognize all faithful
volunteers and leaders of Children and Family Ministries. Beginning the 16th, Godly Play will be
available both at 9:45 and 11 a.m. services for children ages 3 years old through 2nd grade. Activity
materials will be available in the Gathering Place for children, who prefer worship experience with their
family in the sanctuary. Regular Sunday School resumes on Sunday, August 25.

Calling All Photographers!

The Photography Ministry needs you. We take pictures of St. Stephen’s events, Missions, and members
to help document our good works and also support Communications and other activities. If you like to
take photos and are willing to take photos at some events or times convenient to you, we’d love to have
you join us. There is no required amount of time you need to volunteer. If you’re interested or have
questions, contact Joe Willmore at: [email protected]

Opportunity to Serve

The Outreach Committee is seeking points of contact / ministry liaisons for our relationships with DC
Christian Ministries and Rising Hope UMC. This is an important (but not very time-consuming) role
that helps St. Stephen's support and connect with those who are serving God and our brothers and
sisters in need in our community. If you are looking for ways to be more personally connected to the
outreach work our church supports, please contact Laurie Perry ([email protected]) or Sandra
Gregory ([email protected]) for more information.
