WITHIN OUR WORLD

A Monthly Publication by the West Philadelphia Senior Community Center

IT’S NATIONAL SENIOR CENTER MONTH! TABLE OF CONTENTS

National Senior Center Month, which is celebrated every September, FLU SHOTS 2

is a four-week period that is championed by the National Institute of Senior THE ROCKETTES 7
Centers (NISC) as an observance to celebrate how senior centers across the
US promote and support healthy and inspired aging. FRANKLIN INSTITUTE 13
Our beloved West Philadelphia Senior Community Center (WPSCC) is an
exemplary model of what NISC says are the “many ways senior centers lead West Philadelphia
their communities and inspire individuals to master this phase of their life.” Senior Community Center
As a vital community resource for older adults in West Philadelphia, 1016 N. 41st St., Philadelphia, PA 19104
WPSCC has been providing a rich diversity of opportunities for more than 215-386-0379 • westphilaseniorcenter.o1rg
a decade that celebrates the creativity, intellectual curiosity, and vitality of
older adults.
“Members appreciate our many classes and programs that help them stay in
shape, travel and see the world, learn about today’s technology, and come
together to listen, participate and learn about music. They also cherish
opportunities to work with their hands doing watercolor, pottery, quilting,
or sewing,” says Julia Diggs, who coordinates programs and events for
WPSCC.
Currently, more than 4,000 seniors look to WPSCC to enrich their
fitness, health, and well-being. Just in 2017 so far, 214 older adults have
joined WPSCC and every month the number continues to grow by about
20 new members.
Our continually growing enrollment is a strong testament to how the
West Philadelphia community of older adults honors
and cherishes WPSCC’s presence. We can’t think
of a better time than National Senior Center
Month to remember all the compelling
ways that the West Philadelphia Senior
Community Center strengthens, inspires,
and supports older adults.
We thank all of our cherished members for
allowing us the opportunity to continually
enrich their lives.
