What is Digital
Imaging?
Digital imaging or digital image acquisition is the creation of a digital
representation of the visual characteristics of an object
It also can be classified as the type of electromagnetic radiation or other waves
variable attenuation.
In all classes, the information is converted by image sensors into digital signals that
are processed by a computer and made output as a visibile-light image.
BRIEF HISTORY OF
DIGITAL IMAGING
Digital imaging was The first digital image was
developed in the 1960s and produced in 1920, by the
1970s, largely to avoid the Bartlane cable picture
operational weaknesses of
film cameras, for scientific transmission system.
and military missions. As
digital technology became
cheaper in later decades, it
replaced the old film
methods for many purposes.
Application of Digital Imaging in Today's Industries
and Lifestyle
Some of the major fields in which
digital image processing is widely used
are mentioned below
Image sharpening and restoration
Medical field
Colour Processing
Microscopic Imaging
THE SOFTWARE APPLICATION AVAILABLE AND
WIDELY USED TO CREATE DIGITAL IMAGING
Adobe Lightroom
Adobe Lightroom is Adobe's effort to engage the professional
photography community in a new way, giving you the opportunity
to kick the tires and shape the feature set of a new tool being
created just for you
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and
published by Adobe Inc. for Windows and macOS. It was originally
created in 1988 by Thomas and John Knoll. Since then, the software
has become the industry standard not only in raster graphics
editing, but in digital art as a whole.
Adobe Premiere Elements
Adobe Premiere Elements is a video editing software application
published by Adobe Systems. It is a scaled-down version of Adobe
Premiere Pro and is tailored to novice editors and consumers. The
entry screen offers clip organization, editing and auto-movie
generation options.

TYPES OF DIGITAL CAMERA EXAMPLES Fujifilm X-T30
Entry-Level Olympus OM-D E-M10
Compacts Mark IV
A compact camera is an inexpensive entry-level Nikon Z fc
camera for the ameteur digital photographer.
These cameras are small and lightweight. They
usually come with standard, automatic settings.
They tend to be smaller as they don't have an
optical viewfinider
Entry-level compact cameras typically use
sensors known as 1/2.5", which is 3% the size of
a full frame sensor
TYPES OF DIGITAL CAMERA EXAMPLES
Mid-range Canon PowerShot G3 X Sony Cyber-shot DSC-
Compacts RX1R II
Mid-range compact cameras give Canon EOS 80D
you speed, power and versatility.
Achieve sharp photos and smooth
focus for movies, even in the most
extreme environments.
TYPES OF DIGITAL CAMERA EXAMPLES Nikon D200
Digital SLRs Nikon F5 professional
SLR
A single-lens reflex camera (SLR) is a camera
that typically uses a mirror and prism system that Casio RF2 35mm film
permits the photographer to view through the SLR
lens and see exactly what will be captured
Since the viewfinder and the film lens cannot
share the same optical path, the viewing lens is
intended to intersect with the film lens at a fixed
point somewhere in front of the camera.
Focus can be adjusted manually by the
photographer or automatically by an autofocus
system
The digital SLR have largely replaced film SLRs
design in convenience, sales and popularity at
the start of 21st century

TYPES OF SCANNERS Flatbed Scanner Sheet Fed Scanner
Portable Scanner
Flatbed Scanner Photo Scanner
- A flatbed scanner is an optical scanner which
1 makes use of a flat surface for scanning
documents. The scanner is capable of capturing all
elements on the document and does not require
movement of the document.
Sheet Fed Scanner
- A digital imaging system specifically designed
2 for scanning loose sheets of paper
-- Used by businesses to scan office documents
and less frequently used by libraries to scan books
that have been disbound
Photo Scanner
3 - An image scanner is a digital device used to
scan images, pictures, printed text and objects
and then convert them to digital images.
Portable Scanner
- Portable scanners, or handheld scanners, are
4 small, electronic devices that allow images or
documents to be captured and converted quickly
to digital format.
TYPES OF DIGITAL STORAGE CD/DVD External Hard Disk
Cloud
CD / DVD Pen Drive /Thumb Drive
- CD stands for Compact Disc and it is an optical
1 disc used to store bits of data.
-- DVD stands for Digital versatile Data and it is an
optical disc used specifically to store digital or
video data
External Hard Disk
- A hard disk drive (HDD), is an electro-mechanical
2 data storage device that stores and retrieves
digital data using magnetic storage and one or
more rigid rapidly rotating platters coated with
magnetic material.
Pen Drive / Thumb Drive
- A USB flash drive is a data storage device that
3 includes flash memory with an integrated USB
interface. It is typically removable, rewritable and
much smaller than an optical disc.
Cloud
4 - Cloud storage is a model of computer data storage in
which the digital data is stored in logical pools
- The physical storage spans multiple servers
