GREEN FINS
Guidelines for Environmentally Friendly
Diving and Snorkeling
“As divers and snorkelers, you are the ocean’s partners in conservaƟon.”
Do not wear gloves
Wearing gloves gives a false sense of protection and encourages
you to hold on to things underwater. In addition to potentially
damaging marine life, wearing gloves can be dangerous for you
too. Gloves will not provide any security against marine life that
can be life threatening.
Wear a life jacket at the surface
This is recommended for all levels of snorkelers and swimmers.
Whether you are a beginner or experienced, wearing a life jacket
helps you avoid standing on or kicking the shallow corals, and
prevents a lot of accidents from unexpected currents.
Use mooring buoys
By using mooring buoys, destructive impacts of anchors can be
avoided. This practice also sets a good example for others and
raises marine environmental awareness.
Report environmental violations
Report destructive practices and violations of environmental
laws. Tell your dive guid and dive operator, or comunity leaders
and government officials. Informing key authorities of your
observations can lead to appropriate action. By letting them
know your concerns, you are being part of the solution.
Participate in conservation projects
By participating in such projects you can have a positive effect on
the environment and help educate others. A little help from
everybody goes a long way.

GREEN FINS
Environment Briefings
A briefing, either as a welcome boat brief or a pre-
dive brief, is the best opportunity to pass important points
onto the guests. Green Fins suggests that during these
briefings, you mention some important environmental aspects
in keeping with the Code of Conduct.
Boat Briefing
On every dive tour, all customers on board should receive
a boat briefing. Once you have everyone’s attention, you
can mention that you are a Green Fins member. This is an
easy way to introduce your environmental topics. Once you
are ready the main aspects that should be covered are:
• No fish feeding. This is important to stop algae
growing on nearby reefs as the fish are no longer
grazing them and it upsets the local ecology.
• Use the trash bins. All wastes and food that is taken
out comes back. Point out where the trash bins are.
Mention if you have a tank tape to put in the bin/s
provided.
• Ashtrays for smokers. Cigarette butts take a long
time to break down in the sea. They also release
chemicals into the water. Marine species may also
mistake then as food, which can block their disgestion
or even cause cancer.
• Toilet talk. Mention not to put any wastes, tissue
paper or anything else in the toilet as it will end up
in the sea. Use the bin provided.
• Reef Watch. Tell your guests that if they are
interested, they can do a Reef Watch survey.
www.greenfins.net
Pre-Dive Briefing
In addition to your pre-dive briefing, please use the points
below to guide your environmental briefing. Remember that
all divers should hear these points before every dive.
• No touching . As Green Fins members you must
adhere to Code of Conduct item #15: “Promote a
strict ‘no touch’ policy for all reef diving and
snorkeling.”
• Watch your distance.. People tend to get too close
to the reef when they are diving for a better look.
This can cause direct accidental damage, fin wash
that can disturb habitats, and cause stress to
some species. Tell your guests to maintain good
buoyancy at all times.
• Watch your equipment. It is important to secure
all hoses and gauges with BCD clips to prevent
them from dangling into coral.
• No gloves. Unless there is a genuine reason for
wearing them, gloves encourage people to touch
and handle marine life.
• No collecting. If it is found down there, it should
stay down there. Collecting marine life, dead or
alive, should be discouraged.
• Photographers. Tell photographers to pay particular
attention to their buoyancy and watch their fins.
Suggest a buddy to watch out for them while taking
a picture. Take care with sensitive species and
don’t take too many pictures. Camera flash is
damaging to many species.

Clean and Green Recipes
Marine life and Corals require a healthy balance of nutrients, oxygen and
clean water to survive. Even small quantities of toxic products in the water
can disrupt this balance, with lasting harmful effects!
Try these simple, home-made and enviornmentally
friendly cleaning recipes as an alternative to more toxic
products.

OCEAN TRASH DATA FORM ®
Ocean and waterway trash ranks as one of the most serious pollution problems choking our planet. Far more than an eyesore,
a rising tide of marine debris threatens human health, wildlife, communities and economies around the world. The ocean faces
many challenges, but trash should not be one of them. Ocean trash is entirely preventable, and data you collect are part of
the solution. The International Coastal Cleanup is the world’s largest volunteer effort on behalf of ocean and waterway health.

FIRE AND EMERGENCY
SAFETY AND SECURITY
Fire extinguishers and smoke detectors are positioned in your villa; please familiarize yourself
with their locations. This will be pointed out to you when you check in.
If you discover a Fire:
If you discover a fire, try not to panic and do not attempt to extinguish the fire unless you are
comfortable doing so. Regardless of the fire intensity, raise the alarm by dialing the Emergency
button on your telephone and give accurate details of the fire’s location to the operator.
In case of Fire Evacuation:
If you hear the fire alarm, please leave your room in a calm and orderly manner (do not stop to
bring your belongings) and proceed to the fire evacuation assembly point immediately.
This is indicated on the Emergency Evacuation Map on the back of your entrance door.
If you are in close proximity to the fire, move away from fire and smoke. Close the doors and
windows if time permits as you leave your Villa. On your way out, warn other people nearby and
go to the designated assembly point. Do not enter the villa until you are instructed to do so by
the Management Team.
In case of Tsunami Warning:
Each vessel and crew will have an assignment.
In the event of a Tsunami warning evacuation, upon hearing the alarm, you should proceed to
your room; collect your life jacket, warm clothing, and the medicine you are taking.
Guests should then calmly make their way to the assembly point and await further instructions
from staffs. Staffs will be available at points around the resort to assist and give directions.
At Centara, our dedicated team of employees is specifically trained and is aware of the island’s
emergency procedures. In any situation, they will be on hand to co-ordinate and assist you in every
possible way.
Our teams do monthly drills and training to ensure procedure ae fresh in every team member’s
mind. You will be notified by letter when we sound the alarms for training drills.
In any emergency situation, the most important thing to remember is to stay calm.
We are here to assist you in the unlikely event of an emergency.
COVID – 19 INFORMATION
What we have faced together recently as a nation – and world – has been unthinkable. However, the
determination we have witnessed has been inspiring. Together we have united as one community to fight
the virus, maintain our social distance, and keep ourselves and loved ones safe. Life as we once knew
has been altered, but we must remain hopeful and stay focused on coming out the other side of this.
We’ve been diligently working on creating a new set of thorough operating practices and guidelines to
help mitigate the risks to our guests, as well as our team. Maintaining our guests and team safety, health
and well-being remains our primary goal, which has never changed. We’ve developed guidelines and
protocols in accordance with guidance from the HPA and The Ministry of Tourism, Republic of Maldives.
We have implemented a program called the Centara Complete Care Program. These guidelines are to
ensure our guests and team feel informed with all the information you need to be at ease as our guests
return to Centara Resorts.
Should you be required to present a PCR test result as part of your international flight departure
requirements, our resort can facilitate this process. We have partnered with 3 private hospitals in Male
city to provide this service at US$ 150 per person per test. An advance notice of 72 hours prior to
departure date is required. Testing will be done in the privacy of your villa and samples will be sent
immediately to the laboratory for analysis. The test results will be provided within 48 hours and sent by
email.
In accordance with local regulations issued by the Ministry of Health, guests displaying symptoms may be
required to undergo a PCR test for COVID-19. We are required to report all suspected cases to the
authorities for further testing to be conducted.
In the event of a positive test result, our team will assist in your relocation you to the official government
facility as designated by the HPA. Whilst it is regretful that your vacation plan may be interrupted, your
health, safety and wellbeing remain our upmost priority and we are committed to ensuring that you
receive access to the best possible medical care and facilities for recovery.
We are wholeheartedly committed to our guests and our team members.
Warm regards,
Area General Manager
