O fffo Ih e Races

The track team prepared themselves for States by competing against bigger schools.

By Jack Lorenz

Qtliide, Danny Kelly (10) uses a steady stride to keep a solid
running motion during his 300 meter race. A solid stride is
key to good running, as an uneven stride would effect the
running motion.
'tXe.Pp up, Olivia Forish (12) runs the mile at the Atkins

meet. Events range from 100 meters to 3200 meters (2 miles).
The mile run is the the second longe.st indivuidual running
event, and requires very specific endurance training.
Rpaed cdipnd. Beth Caress (10) goes all out for her 300
meter sprint. This meet was conducted at JDL Fast Track,

which is unique becua.se it's only a 200 meter track, half the
size of the normal outdoor track around our football field.

go! Tyler Lininger (12) and Matt

Herndon (12) practice their handoffs before
their 4x200 meter relay for outdoor track.
Handoffs in a relay are very important, because
a botched handoff could lose the team the race
or end up in disqualification.

0 I1Gfop to go! Daniel Gabriel (10) is on his
final lap for the 500 meter run. The 500 meter
run is the longest sprinting event that indoor
track offers. Indoor track is run during the
winter months, when it is too cold to compete
outdoors. Outdoor track is in the spring, and
each type offers different events and distances.

CawG/ia Iteadij, Tony "Stick" Testa (11) winks at the camera
as he runs his 500 meter race. "The meets were really long but
I had a good time hanging out and talking to my friends," said

Tony. The meets often times are very time consuming, so
teammates often found fun and unique ways to entertain one

another.

uKnees h ig h, Olivia Forish (12), Robert Ganzert (11), and
Alex Finder (12) warm up for a meet by doing grass drills on

the infield. Warming up for meets, especially in the colder
weather, was crucial to a good performance and less muscle

strain.

Bishop Women's Soccer fought hard this season,

(11) high five each other after Bishop scores a goal. Mary

Kate and Rachel are the team captains of the women's
soccer team because they are the oldest returning players

and because they are well loved by the team. "All of us
have so much fun together on the field, and 1think you can
really tell how much we genuinley get along by how we are

all so supporting of each other," said Mary Kate.

^/tpneiviies, Pictured to the right, Caroline Coyte (10)

always funny for me when we play Glenn because one of
my best friends is on that team and we always end up going
head to head on the field," said Caroline. In the picture,

Caroline is running against her best friend, Shaye
McGinnis.

(Due Coi/e, The varsity

girls hudle up as they get
ready to face the Glenn
Bobcats, a game they
ended up winning 4-0. "I
feel like a part of the
family already," says Lexi
M arty (9), who is one of
the few freshman on the
varsity roster. The team
lost several upperclassmen
last year, so they have had
to learn how to work
together with the younger
players and new head
coach to make the best of
every game.

(Dn you/i toes, Cammie Cooke (10) receives a ball in

near impossible form, seeming to be balancing her
body weight completley on her toes. "Soccer has
always been a really exciting part of my life and I'm
happy I get the opportunity to play with some of my
best friends!" said Cammie.

tke gone, Taylor Daniel (11), a new junior transfer

student, calls for the ball. "I was really glad I was able
to play soccer this year, and it really helped with my
transition from my old school to Bishop," said Taylor.

The women's soccer coaching staff saw old and new faces
this year. New head coach, Ray Alley, stepped up to coach the
girls when their beloved coach, George Kennedy, passed away
suddenly in the fall. The rest of the coaching staff includes Scott
Suffer, Keith Herzberger, and Adam Gal. Each one of the coaches

contributes to the team in a unique and helpful way.

Jimmy Dasher (10) quickly lunges to the ball. Jimmy is
an outstanding tennis player who has worked very to be a
winning asset to the team. "Tennis gives me a chance to have fun

and let loose," said Jimmy.

■ 'TmpPuiiOi- Henry Kirby (10) serves the ball to his
opponent. He played as the number one seed on the team. "1 like

how close we get to each other as a team and because it's a
smaller team it's easy to make close connections with my
teammates," said Henry.

jI ':(i ■ Samuel McDonald (10) shakes hands

with his opponent after winning the match. Even though he won,

he still shows great respect for his competitors. "I really like

competing for a team and helping Bishop win matches," said

Samuel.

I Adam Chinna.sami (12) stretches to slam a

shapes the way they play. The Villains have great talent and a great advisor to guide them. "What I like about the tennis coaches is that they are
supportive and ready to help when you need help," said Will Vitola (9).

Clt&GIt Oil. The Bishop baseball team cheers on their

teammates as they go up to bat. Supporting
teammates helps eliminate some of the pressure they

may feel. "I played baseball for six years before I
came to Bishop, so it was a natural choice for me. I
like the team aspect and the support we get from each

other." said Drew Ritzel (11).

CoiiOClit/intG, The batter prepares himself as the
pitcher is getting ready to throw. Baseball is not only

just a physical sport, but also a mental one. It also
requires you to study how the pitcher will throw the

ball and look out for little changes in stance and
position. Teammates often cheered on batters from
the sidelines with intere.sting chants to help them stay
loose, and also to distract the other teams' pitchers.
"Peace sign, bunny ears," said Vance Jacobsen (11).

"It's an inside joke and we say it all the time."

A Rising Star

Seen pumping his fist in the air after completing a

races at the state level this year for swimming and
he made his presence very well known. He swam
the 200 medley relay with Ethan Chase (10), Paul

swam in the 100 back and 100 fly. The relay team

came in second, and not only
did Thomas win both

he also broke the 1A/2A state

got the meet's "Most

I had accomplished was
fantastic. I was so grateful to
