WELCOME!
Thank You so much for taking the time to look through the
preview of some of the paintings from my
21st Annual Open Studio sale!
Because the sale is online only, I have worked hard to make it
easy and understandable to buy art online. This is the first year
I am offering this sneak peek and I hope it will give you an
idea of what to expect when the show is posted! This is a
sample of some of my work that will be online at the show.
All the information about the piece, the piece hanging for
visualizing and a desciptive paragraph about the inspiration
for or why I painted a particular painting.
This preview has only a very small sampling of the actual
online show and I have tried to take a random group of
paintings to show you what kind of work will be for sale!
There will be almost 150 paintings posted, many at
discounted prices and all with
Free Shipping during the weekend show.
Paintings posted at 10 AM, Friday, Nov 3rd on my site.
Hope you have fun looking!
All details of the site are live online now
and should answer most any questions,
or email me at [email protected]

Crossing IV
Abstract work is the hardest to try to describe in a paragraph, because it
comes from somewhere besides an object in front of you or a memory of
something that used to be in front of you. I think most painters gravitate toward
abstraction the more experience they have as painters because it is challeng-
ing and invigorating to paint from nothing but your own knowledge of color,
shape, form and understanding your paint. To be honest, all my work is, at its
core, abstract. I take forms and pare them down to such a basic level that
even though you can tell it is grass or a building or even a person, it is just a
slash of color I want it to be, not even considering what it is in reality. But pure
abstract work takes me a long time because it is layer on layer and colors
playing off colors and many times mine needs time to breathe and dry
between sessions, but they don’t just pop out, they take thought and a lot of it.
I think to be a good abstract painter, you really have to understand paint. This
painting is very thickly painted, that is hard to see in a photograph, but in per-
son is even more crossing and recrossing of color.

Nightime at Nimrod with Lights and Fireflies
Oil on Canvas
Shadow Frame
24 x 36
This painting is from Nimrod Hall, the artist colony that we own. It is
amazing at Night in the summer there because there is a time when the sky is
still cobalt blue light but the fireflies have come out and the lights in the cot-
tage windows are glowing. It looks incredibly ideal and I tend to paint it at least
once a summer, but sometimes more. I am a real summer person and this is an
idyllic time in my favorite season.

River and Field
My husband flies small planes and now helicopters. I have never been such a
fan of flying since I tend to think it might be a little dangerous... but he loves it so
I am getting really used to it! This is one of a series I painted over the summer.
We went to see where our daughter was going to go to college, right in the
middle of when I was immersed in painting, when you start seeing everything as
a potential painting. I am always fascinated by the patterns and grids that the
farmland of Virginia makes from the air and was inspired to paint it immediately
when we returned back to Bath County. The paintings are not meant to be
exact replicas of any location, but an abstracted take on what Virginia showed
my eyes from the sky. This river is the Cowpasture River in Virginia, but again,
I often use my artists’ license.

Charlie’s Produce I
This Fall there was an event in Richmond for a Plein Air paint out hosted by a
neighborhood in Richmond. Basically that means that for 5 days everywhere
you looked their were artists painting outdoors (what Plein Air means). I had an
absolute blast. This painting is of a series I LOVED painting of Charlie’s Produce.
Charlie is a local farmer who sets up a produce stand from Spring until the end
of Fall and sells fresh produce like his Father before him. He is a young, fun guy
who made me feel totally welcome and I think that is why I like my paintings I
did so much there. These people were not shopping at the same time,
I painted them each as they were there, but Charlie does a big business and
plenty of times there were more people than this at any given time. This
painting and Charlie’s Produce were done the same day- one of those days in
Virginia when the sky is bright blue without a cloud to be seen and people
practically shimmer in the sunshine. I loved it.
