Welcome

Welcome to Galilee!
I’ll never forget the first musical I ever saw—“Les Misérables.” I was in the back row of
the State Theater in Cleveland, OH. My ticket was free, a gift from my band teacher. The
music, staging, and story moved me in ways I didn’t fully understand.
Victor Hugo’s epic novel “Les Misérables” has been adapted for film and stage many
times, always reaching new audiences. The story has captured the hearts of millions.
And why is that? Perhaps it is because behind the human themes—of love, suffering,
and struggle—there is the hint of something so much more powerful. It’s a story of
God’s grace and the possibility of genuine redemption.
This Lent, Galilee will explore “The Grace of Les Misérables” using pastor Matt Rawle’s
book of the same title. We’ll lift up the examples of justice, poverty, revolution, and
hope found in “Les Mis” along with scripture passages that are foundational to our
faith. While you won’t need to know the book to understand the worship message, you
might find it helpful to watch the movie or read a synopsis in advance.
My prayer is that this series inspires us to live out our faith and our Christian calling in
transformational ways during Lent. And maybe even to sing a new song!

Small Groups

Sundays: Friends in Faith

10:15am · Adult Flex
Led by Bill Johnson
Enter the world of the New Testament. Professors Wright and Bird will
guide you through how to read the New Testament, the world of Jesus
and the early church, deep studies on both Jesus and the Apostle Paul,
lectures on every book of the New Testament, as well as how to live
the story of the New Testament today. There is also an video that will
include on-location sessions.

Sundays: No Prep Required

10:15am · Room 202
Led by Chris Richter

In Friend of Sinners, Rich Wilkerson Jr. shows readers the profound implications of
the reality that Jesus calls us friends not because of who we are or what we have
done, but because of who he is. By following his example, we can have the same
clear conviction and compassion for the lost that he did. His gospel of scandalous
grace cannot be overestimated. When we embrace the truth that we all need Jesus
equally and when we trust him to bring transformation in people’s hearts, we will
walk as Jesus walked, experiencing the glory of God in our own lives and in the lives
of those around us.

what we are reading now.
March Book - Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. This book is at
once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-
age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that
we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all
subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Wednesday: PrimeTimers Luncheon

Led by Ferd Wagner Prime
11:30am Timers

Multi-Purpose Room
PrimeTimers is a fellowship and Bible study group that meets throughout the year. They

are studying the book of Romans. The meeting begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m. The study

begins around 12:30 p.m.

Though the name may indicate this is a senior’s only group, we welcome everyone who
can attend, whenever they are able. There is no homework and class members volunteer
responses. This is a wonderful fellowship for all who attend. We have helped with many
projects around the church, including the automatic doors at the front of the building.

We are currently working to put together another Small Group Fair on Saturday, May 16
from 11;30 – 2:30 p.m. Each group leader or attendee is invited to address the class
and inform others of what their group is all about. You are welcome to drop in and
check out our group or attend the upcoming Fair. Contact Ferd Wagner or David Leroy
for further information.

Son-Rise Thursday Morning Study

Newcomers are welcome. Contact: [email protected].

Location: The Holiday Inn: 45425 Holiday Drive, Sterling, VA 20166
Adam Hamilton examines Christianity and four major religions: Islam,
Hinduism, Buddhism and Judaism. He questions “Why are there so
many religions?; How should Christians view other religions?; How is
God at work in other religions?; What is the fate of those who earnestly pursue God
through other religions?” Join us as we explore these religions.

Thursday Morning Sisters in Christ Study Group

Led by Nancy Epperson
10:00am - Adult Flex
1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month
How did Jesus teach the Greatest Commandment to his disciples?

In his latest book Reckless Love, author and pastor Tom Berlin writes
that Jesus taught them to love neighbors first as a way to more deeply love God.

In his exploration of Jesus’ teaching and travels with his disciples, Berlin suggests
that Jesus teaches us how to love God with heart, soul, mind, and strength by
showing us how to love our neighbor. While many hope to learn to be better family,
friends, leaders, and neighbors by finding a deeper relationship with God, what if
becoming a better neighbor leads you to that deeper love of God?

In Reckless Love, you will consider your life, and learn how loving the people around
you will completely renew your faith and give you a new experience of loving God.

Galilee is filled with generous people both in and out of the pews. Donations to
LHR, especially fresh produce, have been very successful and really make a
difference in our Loudoun communities. I hope you are proud of your contribution
to this effort. In 2019 Galilee donated close to 5,000 pounds of produce and shelf-
stable foods.
In 2020, the need is growing as our county is growing. LHR is now holding a Pop-Up
Market every Friday at Sterling Community Center. Good, wholesome foods are needed
to keep that Market available, and to improve the overall health of the community.

Meet the Pastors

REV. JASON DULEY - SENIOR PASTOR
At Galilee, we talk about “ordinary people” and “extraordinary pur-
pose.” That’s because we believe we’re all just regular people called
to do something beyond the norm. For instance, I’m an
ordinary person—my extraordinary purpose is to shepherd people in
faith, hope, and love.
Everyone has an extraordinary purpose that some time spent in
relationship with God and others can help reveal. I am here to help you discover your
extraordinary purpose and connect your gifts with that purpose.
I invite you to connect with me at Galilee.
[email protected]

REV. GEITRA MICKELSON - ASSOCIATE PASTOR
Geitra Mickelson, Galilee’s newest addition to our clergy staff, is an
Ohio native who comes to our church with a background in music,
education, and theater. Active in church throughout her life, Geitra
responded to the call to ministry here in Virginia, where she has
lived since 2001.
“I responded to a call when God’s love convicted my heart. I’m
eager to share that love with a hurt and broken world. Jesus has
made all the difference in my life, and I believe he can make a
difference in yours—no matter what!”
“My goal is to work alongside others who are passionately committed to helping those in
need.”
Geitra serves in Galilee’s ministries and at the Chapel at Lansdowne Woods, and is
pursuing the completion of her Masters of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary.
