Welcome

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Galilee has been my family’s home for 22 years. For 11 years, I have been one of your
pastors. You nurtured me from the early years of my ministry to my ordination at the
Virginia Annual Conference this month. You helped me grow into this life and work—
preaching, teaching, officiating over baptisms, weddings, funerals, and visiting the sick
and homebound. We have celebrated accomplishments and stood together in difficult
times. I wish to thank you for it all.
As a pastor, I’m not just called to ministry. I am also sent. And now I have been sent to
serve at another congregation—and leaving is not easy.
When I say “goodbye,” I know we are not really going separate ways. God will be with
you and with me, because in Christ we remain connected through the power of the Holy
Spirit.
Genesis 31:49 speaks of the way we share God’s glorious fulture. In Hebrew it is called
“Mizpah,” which means watchtower or lookout: “The Lord watch between you and me,
when we are absent one from the other.” I think that says it best.
God’s peace to you!
In Christ,
Pastor Matt

Ministry Highlights

The NLI initiatives cross many areas of Galilee Church –
physical building, maturing discipleship, serving our community,
worship, and financial management, and there are many
elements to each of those initiatives with goals and timelines
identified. It is sometimes hard to physically see the forward
progress and accomplishments being met in these areas,
yet many volunteers are working diligently to achieve the
objectives laid out in the NLI report.
Innovation #1 - Space. Trustees continue to work to improve our physical space,
including dealing with damage to the roof after recent storms.
Innovation #3 - Serve. The team met with author Jake McGlothin to discuss his book
about church/school partnerships. Meetings with each school in the Backpack
Buddies program are ongoing.
Innovation #4 - Worship. The organ will be repaired, filling our sanctuary with the
sounds of this beautiful, traditional church instrument.
Please be sure to attend our next Town Hall on Sunday, June 3rd at 10:15 which will
focus on NLI efforts as well as Galilee’s current financial status. As always, please
reach out to [email protected] with your questions, concerns or
interest in volunteering.

Meet the Pastors

REV. JASON DULEY - SENIOR PASTOR
Let me tell you what I believe. I believe the best life is one
that’s got meaning. I believe that God has given every person an
extraordinary purpose.
As a pastor of an active church, I get energy out of helping people
connect with God, with one another, and with their life’s purpose.
I invite you to connect with Galilee and to connect with me. Hit me
on social media (facebook.com/jason.duley.944) or simply pick up
the phone and call.
[email protected]

REV. MAT THEW SERGENT - ASSOCIATE PASTOR
My call to ministry had to wait as I spent twenty years in law enforce-
ment, rising to Police Captain. I found myself reaching out to victims,
trying to help them make sense out of horrible situations. In essence,
I was being the hands and feet of Christ even in my role as a police
officer. I also saw the results, in many offenders, of living a life outside
the love of God. There were times when I was reaching out to minister
to them as well.
I am grateful now to be working as a pastor at Galilee and the Chapel
at Lansdowne Woods. I believe my greatest usefulness as a minister is
my witness and love for the Good News of the Gospel.
[email protected]

REV. GEITRA MICKELSON - ASSOCIATE PASTOR
Geitra Mickelson, Galilee’s newest addition to our clergy staff, is an
Ohio native who comes to our church with a background in music,
education, and theater. Active in church throughout her life, Geitra
responded to the call to ministry here in Virginia, where she has
lived since 2001.
“I responded to a call when God’s love convicted my heart. I’m
eager to share that love with a hurt and broken world. Jesus has
made all the difference in my life, and I believe he can make a
difference in yours—no matter what!”
“My goal is to work alongside others who are passionately committed to helping those in
need.”
Geitra serves in Galilee’s ministries and at the Chapel at Lansdowne Woods, and is
pursuing the completion of her Masters of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary.
