Welcome

Welcome!
The Book of Psalms contains powerful evidence that God doesn’t mean for us to be down
in the dumps. He means for us to climb out of the depths toward Him.
God calls us upward and onward. We know this from the Psalms of Ascent (Psalms 120-
134) that were sung on pilgrimage to the high ground of Jerusalem. The faithful would
journey from all directions toward the city of God which, being on a hill, meant that it
was a climb for everyone.
Our worship series containing this message is called “Lift: Psalms of Ascent - A Traveler’s
Companion.” When you worship at Galilee this summer, you’ll journey with us through
eight Psalms of Ascent. You can climb further solo (or with a small group) by reading a
worthwhile guide book, “A Long Obedience in the Same Direction,” by Eugene Peterson.
Won’t you climb with us?
In Christ,

Pastor Jason JUNE 2019

Small Groups

Sundays: Friends in Faith

10:15am · Adult Flex
Led by Bill Johnson

The Friends in Faith Class is beginning with a new study of the Acts of
the Apostles. This course will be based upon a video presentation of
the complete text but with actors and narrators speaking the dialog
as St. Luke wrote it. We will cover a chapter or two at a time with an
opportunity to discuss the significance of the book. Journey alongside
Luke as he documents the joys, hardships and miracles of the early Christian church in
this Word for Word (NIV), full dramatized film of the Acts of the Apostles.

Sundays: Today’s Group
10:15am · Room 200

Can’t commit to a long-term Sunday School or Bible Study? Today’s
Today’s Group is a small group that meets on Sunday mornings in Groups

Room 200. It is a drop-in group designed to discuss the sermon of
the day. If you have already heard the sermon, the discussion will
take you more in depth. If you haven’t heard it yet, you will have
the opportunity to get a preview and an understanding of what the sermon is about.

Sundays: Parents of Young Children

10:15am · Room 206 The Bible
Led by Kristen Jenkins (and What’s the Big Picture?)

Our lessons will be focused around the Bible Project (https://thebibleproject.com/)
videos and study guides. Our questions will be focused on learning how the story of the
Old Testament points toward the coming of Christ and God’s big plan for us. We will also
review the Big Picture Bible and how the story takes shape so it is accessible for our kids.

June 2 - Daniel June 16 - No Class June 30 - No Class - Serve Sunday
June 9 - Haggai June 23 - Zechariah

Sundays: NOOMA

10:15am · Room 202
Led by Chris Richter
NOOMA is a series of short films that explore our world from a perspective of Jesus.
Jesus lived with the awareness that God is doing something, right here, right now,
and anybody can be a part of it. He encouraged his listeners to search, to ques-
tion, to wrestle with the implications of what he was saying and doing. Wherever he
went, Jesus started discussions about what matters most, because for Jesus, God is
always inviting us to open our eyes and join in.
No prep needed - each is a stand alone class.

Keep It Shut by Karen Ehman explores how to better control your tongue,
knowing what to say and how to say it, and realizing when it is best to say nothing at all.
From Bible times to modern times women have struggled with their words. What to say
and how to say it. What not to say. When it is best to remain silent. And what to do when
you’ve said something you wish you could now take back. In this book a woman whose
mouth has gotten her into loads of trouble shares the hows (and how-not-tos) of dealing
with the tongue.
Christian women struggle with their mouths. Even though we know that Scripture has
much to say about how we are—and are not—to use our words, this is still an immense is-
sue, causing heartache and strain not only in family relationships, but also in friendships,
work, and church settings.

Often we make a mess of our lives and wonder if there is any
redemption. In this book, pastor and author Tom Berlin helps us
see our mess through the eyes of Christ to find redemption and
restoration. Using Scripture, devotional tools, and the writings of
Ignatius of Loyola, John of the Cross, St. Augustine, John Wesley,
Evelyn Underhill, and others, Berlin encourages reflection and meditation through
our own brokenness. Only then can we focus on the cross as the place where we
truly surrender control, leave our mess, and find redemption.

Ordinary People...

...Extraordinary Purpose

At Galilee Church, we offer regular, intentional opportunities for people to grow in faith.
We strive to prepare people of all ages for a deeper relationship with God. Our greatest
tool for growth is the small group, where people come together to study the word and
build understanding, faith, and strong relationships. Our small groups are open to
everyone at any time. Feel free to drop in when you are able to see if a group is the right
fit for you.
