NOTES FOR THE GUIDANCE OF SPECTATORS
1. Spectators are requested to be seated by 1115 brs.
2. On the arrival of the Inspecting Officer, spectators
are requested to stand until the end of the General
Salute. Spectators in military uniform should not
salute. Gentlemen in civilian clothes should not
remove their headdress.

Spectators should not stand aga.in until the departure
of the Inspecting Officer from the Parade Ground.
4. Parents, relatives and friends are then invited to
a Reception in the marquees adjacent to the Parade
Ground.
Lunch will be served to Apprentices, their parents'
and guests after the Reception.

The Long Service and Good Conduct Hedal is awarded '
on the recommendation of Commanding Officers" to
soldiers who have completed at least eight~en years
service and whose conduct during that period has
been irreproachable.

SERGEANT G AINSLIE BEM RAPe
Sgt Ainslie commenced his service as a National
Serviceman in the Royal Corps of Signals in 1953.
After a short spell in Civilian life he re-enlisted
into the Royal Gorp$ of Signals in 1956 and became a
Weapon Training Instructor. He, had fu:tther 'service
with the Royal Corps of Signals until transferring to
the Royal Army Pay Corps in 1963. ' He served as a Unit
Pay Clerk with the East AngJ:ian Regiment and later 'the
1st Battalion, The Kings Regiment serving in Northern
Ireland, Berlin and Aden.
Sgt Ainslie was posted to 1 Squadron Royal Corps
of Transport as an I,ndependent Pay Clerk :from September
1968 to January 1971.
, After a tour in the Far East Sgt Ainslie was posted
to his present unit Camp Administrative Staff '_\oJortlDJo-wyn.

leadership, personal example and success has
become the'outstanding Sportsman throughout
the year.

WAVELL MEHORIAL AWARD
Major, The Earl \~avell, son of the late Field Marshall
the Earl Wavell, was killed in action in 1953. He had
served with distinction in the Black ~/atch during the
war, and during his attachment to the Army School of
Education from 1948 to 1952· he made a valuable
contribution to Army Education,' particularly in the
field of character training.
After his death a fund was raised, with contributions
from the Countess V/avell, the Hisses V/avell and from
members of the Royal Army Education Corps in order to
. provide a sui table memorial.
.It was agreed by the Countess Wavell that the memorial'
should take the form of·an annual presentation of a
cup and book prize to boys who have shown outstanding
efforts in outdoor pursuits and progress and deter-
mination in activities involving adventure and
endurance during the preceding year.
The cup is held by the College and the book prize re-
tained by the Apprentice concerned.

THE OUTSTANDING APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR
The Campbell Award, a silver medallion, has been
subscribed by Major Generpl Sir Hamish Campbell KBE
CB who was the Paymaster-in-Ghief at the time of the
formation of the Royal Army Pay Corps Apprentices
College.
The Award is for presentation to the outstanding
Royal Army Pay Corps Apprentice of the year.

The recipient of the Award is the Apprentice who
has not only made the best overall progress in College
activities, but who has also, by his personal conduct
and example done most to !cste::-and encourage "esprit
de corps" within the College.
