COMMUNITY EDUCATION INFORMATION

1. NO CLASSES: 1/15, 2/19, 3/30 - 4/6, & 5/28
2. Classes DO NOT MEET when the school district is closed due to INCLEMENT WEATHER AND/OR

BUILDING PROBLEMS.
3. Classes DO MEET even if students are not in school due to 1/2 days, etc...
4. Classes not meeting the minimum enrollment may be cancelled.
5. When Classes are cancelled due to weather make-ups or refunds may not be given.
6. Sometimes a class needs to be rescheduled or moved due to a building activity. Advance

notice will be given when possible by the swim instructors.
7. A request must be made prior to the start of the second class, regardless of attendance

REFUND POLICY

1. FULL REFUND: class cancelled by Community Education.
2. $5.00 service charge applies before second class meets if student cancels the class or

transfers to another class regardless of your attendance (after class sessions begins).
3. NO REFUND for classes meeting once or twice.
4. A $35 processing fee will be charged on all returned checks.

PRE-BEGINNER

Should be comfortable in the water by themselves while parents are in bleachers

BEGINNER 1

Passed Pre- Beginner or comfortable putting their face in the water while performing a front float
and able to perform a back float (with some support).

BEGINNER 2

Passed Beginner 1 or able to swim independently at least 5 yards of freestyle/front crawl.

ADVANCED BEGINNER 1

Passed Beginner 2 or be able to swim at least 1/2 length of freestyle/front crawl, performing rotary
breathing, and be able to float on their back for 15 seconds.

ADVANCED BEGINNER 2

Passed Advanced Beginner 1 or be able to perform a kneeling dive and swim 25 yards (1 length)
of freestyle/ front crawl with rotary breathing and swim elementary backstroke for 25 yards (1
length).

INTERMEDIATE

Passed Advanced Beginner 2 or perform a stride dive and swim 50 yards (2
lengths) of freestyle/front crawl with rotary breathing, swim 25 yards (1 length) of backstroke, 1/2
length of breaststroke, and 1/2 length of dolphin kick.

SWIMMER

Passed Intermediate or be able to swim 50 yards (2 lengths) each of freestyle/front crawl and
backstroke using flip turns at wall, 50 yards (2 lengths) of elementary backstroke, 25 yards (1
length) of breaststroke, and 1/2 length of butterfly.

ENGLISH & MATH CLASSES
Assessment test given at time of registration for Adult Basic Skills,
High School Equivalency Prep Courses and high school completion classes

to determine class levels.
Registration and testing can take up to 1 ½ hours.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING CHILDREN

All Basic Skills classes provide instruction for those
testing below 9th grade level.

All HSE and HSC courses are computer lab-based online instruction.
Onsite attendance is mandatory.

Each class meets twice a week for 10 weeks.
Classes are 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

In the heart of the Livonia Public School district is Niji-Iro Japanese Immersion Elementary
School. The school provides a unique educational opportunity, which focuses on a two-way
immersion program for both Japanese and American students. The mission of the school is to
