Memorial Tributes:.

Ty Brown

Ty served as the Whitecaps’ first General Manager in 1988. He was
instrumental in recruiting coaches and some of the best collegiate
baseball players nationwide. He had extensive connections in
baseball through his work in the California League and through his
family. Ty’s father, Joe L. Brown, was GM of the Pittsburgh Pirates
and the architect of two World Series Championships in 1960 and
1971. Also, his grandfather, actor Joe E. Brown, was involved in
California amateur baseball. After the first Whitecaps season, Ty
became a scout for the Anaheim Angels, and later, Montreal,
Baltimore, and Florida. He was recognized as “Scout of the Year” in
1998 by the Mid Atlantic Scouts Association for which he later served
as president. He also brought to Brewster a number of baseball
celebrities such as Bob Montgomery, former Red Sox catcher; Harry
“the Hat” Walker, player and manager; and Hall of Famer Stan “The
Man” Musial (shown here with Ty). The success of the Whitecaps, in
many ways, is due to the strong foundation established in the club’s
inaugural season under the leadership of Ty Brown.

Tommy Gage

Tommy was affectionately known as “Mr. Baseball” in Brewster for his lifelong love for and commitment to the sport
in his home town. Tommy was a standout player on the old Brewster Town Baseball Team in the 1940's. Later, and for
much of his adult life, he was especially active teaching the game to children in the Little League. He was a big part of
the early Whitecaps. When the team played at Cape Cod Tech in Harwich, he helped prepare the field for play before
every home game. During games he operated the scoreboard - which was numbered by hand in those days. During the
building of Stony Brook field, he was there
on a regular basis, helping with the
physical work, taking measurements and
offering advice. In recent years, he was a
fan at every home game until he was
unable to attend. He was honored with a
Lifetime Achievement Award at the CCBL
Hall of Fame inductions in 2005. Tommy
loved the Whitecaps, and the Baseball
Club loved him back. RIP Tommy, and
celebrate our championship with Chester
in heaven!

Memorial Tributes:.

Chester Robinson

There wasn’t a lot of down time in Chester’s 86+ years on the planet.
He started and ran several Robinson’s Five and Dime Stores. He worked as a
volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Boy Scouts and Cape Cod Salties.
He served on the boards of Cape Cod Five, CCB&T, Cape Cod Hospital and
more. He helped give birth to the Orleans Skate Park and the Nauset Middle
School Football program.
Fortunately, he also found
time to be a dedicated fan
and friend of the Brewster
Whitecaps. The Picnic Park
at Stony Brook Field is
already dedicated to Chester, because it is no exaggeration to say that
without his nearly full time, volunteer commitment to managing the
construction of Stony Brook Field over most of three years, we would
not be playing here today. Chester did not live to see the Whitecaps
win the CCBL Championship last year. But his seat for the final game
was reserved for him at his favorite perch up by the school, where he could peruse the entire, superb baseball venue he
worked so long and hard to make happen.

Bill Saul

Bill was a committed volunteer for several years for the Brewster Whitecaps,
working as a stalwart member of the Game Day Team, back when the team played
its home games at the Cape Cod Tech School on Route 124 in Harwich. In addition
to his volunteer work for the Whitecaps, Bill was a member and former president
of the Brewster Men’s Club, the Brewster Historical Society and the Cape Cod
Museum of Natural History. He proudly served with the 45th Infantry Division
in Europe during World War II, participating in the amphibious landings at Anzio
and Marseille and ultimately the liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp.
Bill was a man of two very different careers. For 20 years he led the corporate life
in graphic arts production for American Cyanamid. Shortly after relocating to
Brewster in 1986, he began his second and favorite career as part-time art
instructor at Cape Cod Community College and the Chatham Arts Center.
For nearly two decades he was a popular instructor. He was an accomplished
oil painter and water colorist, who especially enjoyed portraiture.

Give us
a hand
with
baseballs?

The home team provides the baseballs for 22 home games each season,
not to mention playoffs. On average, the Whitecaps go through three
to four dozen balls every game at a cost of about $150. If you can sponsor
the baseballs for one or more games, it will be a very big help. Please sign up
at the souvenir stand or call Chris Kenney, President, at 774-353-0011.

Let’s Play It Safe!

For the safety of all fans, do not interfere with the progress of the game or go onto the
playing field at any time. Any fan interfering with a ball in play or going onto the field

will be removed from the park and could be subject to arrest.

All fans, especially those sitting along foul lines are cautioned to stay alert for hard-hit
foul balls or bats that might leave the field of play. Fans with young children or who may

not want to continously be alert should sit behind the fenced/screened areas. All fans
assume all risks and dangers incidental to the game of baseball, whether occurring prior

to, during or subsequent to the actual playing of the game. The participating teams,
organizations and players are not liable for injuries resulting from such causes.
