CEO’S MESSAGE

Brigadier Dr. Malik Waqar Ahmad Awan, TI(M) (Retd)

The accessibility of a ordable and quality healthcare is a fundamental right of
every human being. It is the legal obligation of every state to ensure access to timely,
acceptable and a ordable healthcare of appropriate quality as well as the provision
of the underlying determinants of health. With the ever-increasing disease burden of
communicable and non-communicable diseases and with the rapid advancement in
new techniques of diagnosis and treatment, it is becoming more challenging for
every state particularly the developing and under developed.
Health care sector in Pakistan has succeeded to receive only marginal budget
allocation out of the national exchequer over the years vis-a-vis the growing
population. Therefore, despite the best possible e orts, the common man remains
devoid of basic health facilities. Due to low socioeconomic and weak financial
condition of the masses, a ordability has been a persistent challenge for common
people. Even the middle stratum of the society feels the constraint to achieve quality
health facilities from the existing healthcare industry in Pakistan.
Memon Health and Education Foundation (MHEF), a not for profit organization comprising God fearing and
generous trustees came to the forefront and decided to contribute to alleviate misery of the masses. Memon
Medical Institute Hospital (MMI Hospital), a flagship project of MHEF has been established and proudly serving the
community with a vision to be a role model for caring, curing, education, research and employment. The mission
assigned to this state-of-the-art hospital is to provide accessible and a ordable quality health care and education
to all with empathy, dignity and respect; irrespective of their caste, creed, color, religion or the ability to pay.
MHEF o ce bearers and the hospital management is continuously striving to go beyond the expectations of the
stakeholders and to utilize the generously donated funds in the most appropriate and optimal manner with due
diligence and utmost transparency. We highly regard the spirit and passion behind any donated amount for the
well-being of masses who otherwise stay deprived from quality health care due to poor financial condition and
paucity of resources. Therefore, unmatched mechanism of audit and accountability is emplaced with care to
boost the confidence of our respectable donors.

The hospital is well equipped and excellent tertiary care services are being provided 24/7 to all as per our mission
statement. Multiple free medical camps, free Lithotripsy, free Total Knee Replacements and free Cochlear Implant
Surgeries are being carried out in this iconic hospital for non-a ording patients. Besides this, the hospital runs
Outreach Centers at various locations where specialists and family physicians render their services apart from
laboratory samples collection.

MHEF is geared up to further expand the hospital facilities and new wards are being added. OPD Clinics have
been increased and facilities are being enhanced. A state of the art and well equipped Uro-Nephrology and
additional Gynae/Obstetrics units are undergoing the planning phase.

College of Nursing is successfully undertaking various courses including BSN, Critical Care and Community
Nursing. It is a matter of pride to mention that quality nursing training is being imparted. The enviable scores by
its students under the umbrella of Dow University of Health Sciences is an evidence to the sustained hard work
by its faculty. Memon College of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitative Medicine is also in the planning phase with an
aim to provide exemplary education to make a mark in health education.

The MMI Hospital team comprises of dedicated, spirited and motivated associates who are determined and
consistent to convert the dream of its founders and trustees into reality with hard work, passion, professional
excellence, dignity and respect for humanity. I am humbled to have been blessed with the support of trustees,
donors, corporate organizations and my team members!

SOCIAL & ENVIRONMENTAL
RESPONSIBILITY

Memon Medical Institute Hospital as a tertiary healthcare hospital aims to provide continuum
of care. The day to day operations of the hospital is to treat patients with the best-possible

care with the compliance of social and environmental responsibility.

MMI Hospital operates under the framework of social and environmental impact.

Waste Management

The most important factor for the hospital is the management of healthcare services and the disposal of the
hospital wastage. We have developed and strongly implementing a mechanism for waste management under
the international guidelines of waste management as well in accordance with Sindh Environmental Protection
Agency. As such, a process is also in place to address hazardous waste and our sta members are educated on
the management thereof to ensure no harm comes to anyone present in the premises. All hazardous material is
labelled and documented and disposed of safely in order to prevent any adverse e ects and thereby guarantee
the people’s safety.
We have developed the standard protocols for waste segregation from point source through waste
categorization via color coding. The color coding helps the relevant sta to handle and dispose as per the
guidelines and reducing the errors of handling the hospital waste which may cause serious consequences, if
thrown carelessly. Our waste management e orts were also appreciated by Sindh Healthcare Commission
during their recent survey of our hospital.

Maintenance of Equipment

We conduct maintenance activities according to a maintenance cycle, guided by the Biomedical Engineers. The
hospital also performs random checks throughout the day to ensure consistent patient safety and care is
upheld. Emergency maintenance requirements are forwarded to a centralized location, recorded and assigned
to the relevant department to address issues speedily and e ciently. All our equipments are routinely and
timely calibrated.

Infection Control

Infection control is the core component of our hospital environmental services which has an impact on the
physical environment for all, including the patients, their attendants and the hospital sta . Our IPC (infection
prevention and control) infrastructure such as isolation precaution (negative pressure) have been designed up
to the international standards. Infection control standard protocol applied in all stages of the operations with
the integration of our state of the art Central Sterilization Department and General Support Services
Department. The Patient Cross Infection Protection measures are implemented at all the stages of the patient

WELFARE DEPARTMENT

Memon Medical Institute Hospital is a project of Memon Health & Education Foundation.
We have deviced a mechanism in which the Welfare Department directly operates under
the management of Memon Health & Education Foundation.

Mr. Muhammad Reyaz Ahmed The Welfare Department is responsible for providing the financial assistance to the
Chairman Welfare Committee deserving patients. The patients who are unable to a ord the cost of the treatment and
are in desperate need of support are treated through the welfare fund. The department
processes all the requests as per the Shariah compliance and gets regularly audited and

eligible for Zakat according to the rules of Shariah. We use the Zakat e ciently through
the smooth process of the welfare department and based on 100% merit policy, only the
needy patients receive the financial assistance through the welfare funds.

The welfare department operates through the support of the donors of the hospital through the Zakat and
other donations. All Zakat donations are used for the sole treatment of the patients, with no amount allocated
to administrative or other expenses. Disbursement of Zakat funds is through a transparent process to ensures
that disbursements of Zakat funds are done in a manner that allows the donors to fulfil their religious
responsibilities in the rightous manner.

MMIH Welfare department provides free medical treatment to poor patients through welfare clinic which
remains open daily from 9:00 am-1:00 pm. Family physician examines the patients and carries out necessary
tests and investigations, if necessary and provide them medicines. During a year approximately Eighteen
