Traffic Calming Consultation
Thanks to the 750 residents and business
owners who took the time to complete the
recent consultation on proposed traffic calming
measures in the town.
The feedback will be used to determine if local
people support Devon County Council’s
proposal to narrow Fore Street in three places.
Devon County Council will need time to process
the information gathered during the consultation
and consider any changes needed to the
proposals before any traffic calming measures
can be implemented.
Our First Community Award Winner
Congratulations to Graham Walker, our first Totnes
Community Award winner. Totnes Mayor, Emily Price said:
“These awards are our way to publicly thank those local
people who make such a difference to our community.
"Whilst we would have loved to give an award to all our
nominees, we could only choose one winner. Graham has
done so much to help others in our town, raising over
£150,000 for local good causes and I congratulate him for
being our very first winner of this award.”
Market Square Improvements
We’re working closely with South Hams District Council to
make a start on the planned improvements to the market
square, which were put on hold during the pandemic.
Before the agreed work, which includes new seating and 7
planting, starts later this year, SHDC and the Town Council
will carry out a quick refresh and repaint in time for the
Summer.

We all love colour in our clothes. Last year in the
Fashion & Textiles Museum we focused on blue,
exploring the use of indigo in dying cloth. Indigo
is the only natural blue dye and a recipe for using
it on textiles has been recorded as long as 7000
years ago on a clay tablet.
In 2022 at the museum, we will focus on colour
again, but this year we will be multi-coloured. Our
exhibition, called ‘BOLD AND BRASH’, will feature
garments from 1770 to 1990. We will examine the
changing availability of dyes to create these varied
and beautiful colours.
In the past, the palette was limited to those dyes Nowadays, by using synthetic dyes and textiles, we

Ten Tors Training
An Incredible Achievement
Our Ten Tors Teams completed their long, hard training
programme in April walking more than 130 miles as part
of three overnight camping weekends. In May the teams
smashed their respective 35 and 45 mile challenges. The
students and their trainers, Mr Earl, Mr Matson & governor
Gillian Healey were a credit to themselves and the college.
