FISCAL YEAR 2015 - 2016
LETTER FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND BOARD CHAIRMAN
Wyoming’s wide-open spaces, abundant wildlife, and agricultural production define our western lifestyle
and culture. At the heart of these defining attributes are our farms and ranches, which play crucial roles in
Wyoming’s economy, and in supporting generations of hardworking families and our rural communities.
Unfortunately, these agricultural lands are disappearing at an alarming rate. On average, America loses
nearly 40 acres of farm and ranchland per hour to development.
The Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust is working to provide tools and resources to reduce the loss of
these precious lands as the state’s first and only, statewide ag-land conservation group. Our goal is to keep
Wyoming’s agricultural industry vibrant and its lands in production. We help sustain our rural communities
and provide tools to help keep our culture and history alive.
With over 1,700 state and local land trusts in the United States, we are proud to report that the Wyoming
Stock Growers Land Trust currently ranks as number 10 in total acres conserved. We want to thank you for
your support, which makes this work possible. Donations to the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust have
helped leverage nearly $125,000,000 worth of on the ground conservation, right here in Wyoming.
We are proud of these accomplishments, but never lose sight of the work ahead. Each new year brings new
challenges, and new opportunities for growth and a greater understanding of conservation through ranch-
ing. With your help we can continue to be a leader and a partner in the conservation of agricultural lands,
wildlife habitat, and wide-open spaces.
From the Board and staff of the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust – we are tremendously grateful for
your passion and commitment to conserving Wyoming and agriculture, one ranch at a time.
Sincerely,
Bo Alley Mantha Phillips

ners of holistic management and believe in low cost produc-
tion and strive to educate the public and other producers about
their sustainable practices. Scott is active in the agricultural
community and has a resume of service which includes Region

University of Wyoming Beef Advisory Team, Chairman of the
Rock Creek Weed CRM, and nine years of service on the Farm
Service Agency County Committee.
FISCAL YEAR 2015 - 2016 COMPLETED PROJECTS
Over the past year, we have had the wonderful opportunity of working with nine different
families to conserve over 29,000 acres of Wyoming's agricultural lands & wide-open spaces.
These agricultural lands provide food and fiber, clean air and water, wildlife habitat, and rich
history. These conservation achievements would not have been possible without support from you, our
supporters and partners. Thank you for helping us keep Wyoming vast, unbroken, and in agriculture.
arrowhead ranch, natrona County
Closed 08/28/2015
The 10,068-acre Arrowhead Ranch project
conserves open space and Wyoming rangeland
in perpetuity. The ranch sits in the greater sage
grouse core area and provides yearlong habitat
for an array of wildlife including pronghorn,
mule deer, small predators, and golden and bald
eagles. The Simon family commented on the
project stating, “This beautiful ranch in Powder
River Wyoming is so special to us, placing it
in a perpetual easement with the Wyoming
Stock Growers Land Trust will allow our great
grandchildren to see it exactly as it is today.”
Buck Ranch, Lincoln County
Closed 09/18/2015
The 2,050-acre Buck Ranch project conserves
a diverse mix of productive agricultural lands,
riparian habitat, migration corridors, and greater
sage grouse habitat. With its stunning mountain
views and abundant fishing, this ranch was at high
risk of subdivision. Karen Buck commented on the
conservation achievement, “I have looked around
at dams, powerlines and subdivisions that have
surrounded my ranch in the last years and realized
that if I didn’t want the same for my property I
had better do something soon.” Funding for the
project was provided by the Natural Resources
Conservation Service, Wyoming Wildlife and
Natural Resource Trust, and the Wyoming Sage
Grouse Campaign which was supported by The
Conservation Fund and the Knobloch Family
Foundation.
Bear Lodge Cattle Company, Crook County
Closed 10/08/2015
The 4,922- acre Bear Lodge Cattle Company
project conserves unique and historical
agricultural land at the base of the Devils Tower
National Monument.
The primary purpose of the easement is to
protect the agricultural values of the property;
additionally, the easement will conserve the
wildlife and open spaces enjoyed by hundreds
of thousands of annual visitors to this unique
National monument.
Ranch owner Ogden Driskill commented on the
project stating, “I can’t think of a better legacy to
leave for future generations than to keep a ranch
in production forever. In an era where nothing
is permanent, it gives me great pride in knowing
that the ranch will continue providing clean water,
wildlife habitat and food and fiber for generations
to come.” Funding for the project was provided
by the Natural Resources Conservation Service,
Wyoming Wildlife and Natural Resource Trust,
The Conservation Fund, and other private donors.
The Cabins Ranch, Sublette County
Acquired from The Conservation Fund on 11/5/2015
The 2,831-acre Cabins Ranch project conserves
important summer cattle grazing lands, wildlife
habitats, and open space. The ranch, which is
situated between the upper Snake River and
the Upper Green River, serves as an important
migration corridor for mule deer, and provides
seasonal habitat for elk, moose, pronghorn, and
the greater sage grouse.
Funding for the project, which closed on March
27, 2014 was provided by the Natural Resources
Conservation Service, the Wyoming Wildlife and
Natural Resource Trust, and the Wyoming Sage
Grouse Campaign which was supported by The
Conservation Fund and the Knobloch Family
Foundation.
FISCAL YEAR 2015 - 2016 COMPLETED PROJECTS, CONT’D.
The Culbertson Place, Sublette County
Acquired from The Conservation Fund on 12/14/2015
The 1,531-acre Culbertson Place project conserves
important agricultural lands, riparian areas, and
portions of the Daniel Sage-Grouse Core Area. The
ranch also offers crucial habitat for elk and moose,
and includes migration corridors for pronghorn
and mule deer.
The conservation easement connects other
conserved and protected lands in the area.
Funding for the project, which closed on June
2, 2014 was provided by the Natural Resources
Conservation Service, the Wyoming Wildlife and
Natural Resource Trust, and the Wyoming Sage
Grouse Campaign which was supported by The
Conservation Fund and the Knobloch Family
Foundation.
Alexander Ranch, Sublette County
Acquired from The Conservation Fund on 12/14/2015
The 1,664-Alexander Ranch project conserves
portions of the “Path of the Pronghorn,” the
second longest land mammal migration in North
America. The initial parcels of the ranch were
purchased by the Alexander family in 1934. Today
the ranch supports 300-400 head of cattle, and
some horses. The ranch also contains more than
105 acres of wetlands and 45 glacial “potholes.”
Funding for the project, which closed on March
27, 2014 was provided by the Natural Resources
Conservation Service, the Wyoming Wildlife and
Natural Resource Trust, and the Wyoming Sage
Grouse Campaign which was supported by The
Conservation Fund and the Knobloch Family
Foundation.
Bettine More Close Nature Reserve, Sublette County
Closed 12/31/2016
The 1,000-acre Bettine More Close project
conserves important riparian areas and important
grazing lands. The conservation easement
connects two other conserved ranches held by
the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust, on large
family-run multi-generation operations.
Property owner Ms. Glenn Close commented
on the completion of the project, “My daughter,
Annie, and I are overjoyed that we have been able
to preserve our 1,000 acres, in perpetuity, with the
collaboration of the Wyoming Stock Growers Land
Trust, in the name of our beloved mother and
grandmother, Bettine Moore Close.”
Rim Ranch, Sublette County
Acquired from The Conservation Fund on 02/02/2016
The 3,989-acre Rim Ranch project conserves
portions of the Wyoming Game and Fish
Department’s Hoback Designated Crucial
Habitat Area, which includes crucial habitats
for the greater sage-grouse, elk, mule deer, and
pronghorn.
The ranch supports local grazing operations and
outdoor recreation. The conservation easement
is contiguous with two other easements held by
Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust.
Funding for the project, which closed on
December 30, 2014 was provided by the Natural
Resources Conservation Service, the Wyoming
Wildlife and Natural Resource Trust, and the
Wyoming Sage Grouse Campaign which was
supported by The Conservation Fund and the
Knobloch Family Foundation.
C-Bar-B Ranch, Johnson County
Acquired from the Johnson County Commissioners on 06/06/2016
The 1,043- acre C-Bar-B Ranch project
conserves both picturesque views of the
Bighorn Mountain Range, and important
agricultural lands. The ranch, located
northeast of Buffalo, produces high quality
alfalfa, Red Angus cattle, and serves as
habitat for a variety of wildlife in the area.
Steve and Marty Gose, ranch owners,
were kind enough to host the 2016 Annual
Roundup Barbeque, and commented on
their conservation experience, “We are
proud to be part of Wyoming Stock Growers
Land Trust, having known several directors
and members gives us a comfortable feeling,
for they face the same problems as we do in
owning a cattle and farming operation and
will help us solve them as we move along.”

WHERE A FAMILY'S LEGACY AND A MISSION
COME TOGETHER
After making provisions for loved ones and friends, one or more charitable interests are often included in a deed,
will or living trust. By giving a gift through a deed of a remainder interest, a will or a trust, individuals can help
the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust conserve working ranches in Wyoming.
This process is known as planned giving. The plans made today will help define a family legacy and ensure that
philanthropic wishes are carried out. Through a proper will, individuals can have a significant impact on the
causes they care about, including the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust.
Donations made by will or other bequest effective at death are 100% deductible for estate tax purposes. Dona-
tions are simple to make and may only require drafting a simple deed or codicil (amendment) to a current will.
Many people are able to make larger gifts through their will than would be possible using current income.
Retirement Plans
Many financial advisors suggest using these funds to make charitable gifts to reduce the tax burden on heirs by
reporting the amount withdrawn combines with an offsetting charitable donation.
Securities
Giving appreciated securities (stocks, bonds and mutual funds) can generate additional tax savings. Such gifts are
generally deductible for income tax purposes at their full current value if owned for longer than one year. They
can be used to offset taxes up to 30% of adjusted gross income.
Life Insurance
The donation of a policy that has been paid for allows the donor to receive a tax deduction for its fair market
value. A life insurance policy naming the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust as the irrevocable owner and ben-
eficiary provides the donor with a tax deduction for the policy’s cash value.
Future payments to the Land Trust to cover the premiums on the policy can also be deducted. In each example
above, you can name more than one charitable organization as a beneficiary.
Bequest
A bequest is made through a will or trust. Bequests of real estate can also be made through provisions in a deed.
Typically, a bequest in a will or trust would specify that a dollar amount or percentage of your estate be left to the
Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust. The donation is exempt from federal estate tax and allows the donor use
and control of the assets during his or her lifetime.
Real Estate
Gifts of real estate can be made to the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust for the benefit of Wyoming’s next
generation of producers. A bequest of working land can be passed along to a young ranching family though our
Ranchland Succession Program. Or individuals may choose to donate the property and retain a life estate, real-
izing the value of the gift during their lifetime and remaining on the land they love. Condos and houses in town
can also be left to the Stock Growers Land Trust and the proceeds derived from their sale directed to support our
mission.
Legacy Society
Our Legacy Society includes individuals and families that have left the Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust as a
beneficiary in their will or trust. If you would like more information about our Legacy Society please let us know.
