KidsStuff & Tiny Tots

The theme for the month of May is focused on
Mothers. Mother’s Day crafts will be made during the week
of May 7th- May 11th. This month’s curriculum features
letters I, J, K, and L and new sight words will be introduced
weekly. The shape of the month is the Moon/ Crescent and
the color of the month is yellow.

On May 16th, 2018, our Preschool and Tiny Tots graduation will be held at the Carl Johnson Community
Center gymnasium. Graduates will be performing songs for their family and friends and will participate in a
ceremony where they will receive their preschool diploma and begin their journey to kindergarten.

The Tiny Tots Community Center site will be closing for the summer
time starting on Monday May 21st and will reopen on Monday, August
13th. Our Hughbanks Elementary School location will be open through-
out the summer.

“Add Years to Your Life & Life to Your Years”
April 2018

Health Educator Maricela Acosta from Regal Medical Group held a “Healthy Cooking Demo” on
Wednesday, April 4th from 11:00am-12:00pm. The topic for the demo was “Healthy eating on the run”. For

the demo she showed the participants how to prepare Cottage
cheese tomato on baguette breakfast. The highlight of the demo
was when the participants got to sample the baguette. Maricela
provided them with the baguette recipe and a handout with
healthy eating on the run tips. This class was the 1st of 3 Healthy
Nutrition Classes. The next class will be held on Monday, May
14th – topic: Plant Based Meal Planning.

On Thursday, April 5th we held our Annual “Senior Crafts & Hobby
Fair” from 9:00am-12:00pm. The club/class participants were
thrilled with the turnout at the Fair. The purpose of this event
was to showcase our weekly clubs/classes. The following groups
participated: Crafts, Crochet, Hobby Time, Wood Carving and
Quilting. For more information regarding clubs/class dates and
times please refer to our Rialto Progress Magazine.

The crochet club

The crochet club has been really busy creating a
variety of crochet items for the San Bernardino
Pregnancy & Family
Resource Center. On
Monday, April 9th a
few of the ladies from
the crochet club went to the Pregnancy & Resource Center to deliver 157
crocheted items. The crochet club donates to various community groups
throughout the year. The crochet club meets on Mondays from 9:00am
12:00pm in the Seniors 2000 room.

Community Center

Youth Basketball (Divisions 2-5)

The Spring Basketball came to a close on April 14th, 2018. The season has rolled along with-out a hitch. There were 2
first time champions and one and one back to back champion. The regular season is concluding on March 24th, for
some teams, while others will move on to the Play-offs beginning on April 7th, 2018. Registration opened on March
19th, 2018 to a surprisingly over-whelming response (see below). Congratulations to all our champions:

Girls Volleyball

The Spring season of Girls Volleyball ended with an exciting match-
up between the # 1 seed Acers (8 – 0) vs. the No. 3 seeded Pan-
thers (5 – 3) This season will ended on March 30th, 2018. The
playoffs for our older division began on April 6th, 2018. Our sea-
son championships were on the April 13, 2018 and what a championship it was!
The Acers, last seasons champions, won back to back championships in straight
sets. Congratulations to all our champions!

Rialto Youth Sports Alliance

The Rialto Youth Sports Alliance’s next meeting will be on May 30th, 2018. The Lighting Ad-Hoc committee
is going well with great ideas for the pending light charges. Further reports as the committee near a resolution.

Contract Classes

The contract class program continues to excel. We will be adding a piano class to our music instrument classes,
taught by our established Guitarist, Chuck Galley. We are also proud to announce our new D.I.Y Decorate series,

which our workshops designed to teach various crafts with extraordinary
household items. We await the next Rialto Progress Magazine to feature the
new classes added. The Ballet Folkloric class continues to
flourish, along with the Karate. Community Services
Department continues to seek new and vibrant class offerings.

Special Events

Rialto Renaissance Head Start Resource Fair – Friday April 6th 2018
The Community Services Department attended the Rialto Renaissance Head Start Resource Fair. Our
dedicated staff set up a booth and provided information on all city services and resources that are available to
those in the Rialto community.

Drowning Prevention & Safety Day 2018
Saturday April 7th 2018
The City of Rialto Community Services
Department in conjunction with the Kiwanis Club
of Rialto hosted the annual Drowning Prevention
and Safety Day on Saturday April 7th 2018 from
12:00pm-3:00pm at the Tom Sawyer Swimming
Pool. We had over 50 children participate for this
event which involved a variety of activities the
community.

The Fire Department provided resources in regards
to children’s car seat safety checks. Aquatic center staff educated the public on unsafe scenarios related to
water safety. Those that attended also had the chance to dunk one of our community services staff into the
dunk tank. Face painting and an open photo booth were also available at this event. All activities were
provided for free to the public.

Rialto Fitness & Aquatics Center

30 days for $30 Special
The City of Rialto Fitness and Aquatic Center is currently offering a one month trial membership
with unlimited fitness classes and use of all amenities without a contract commitment. The 30 for
$30 trial is an introductory offer valid one time and also includes access to our indoor heated
swimming pool. The pass provides those seeking a fitness facility a chance to develop a fitness
routine and enjoy all the amenities before committing to a membership.

29 Anytime Pass
Are you ready to exercise but need a gym buddie? The Fitness and Aquatic Center is offering a
$29 Anytime Pass for members who are interested in group exercise classes. The pass is not a
facility membership but rather a monthly pass valid for instructor led group exercise classes. The
pass expires on a monthly basis and includes access to all of the 44 group exercise classes
offered on a weekly basis. Try it today to sample, Strong by Zumba, Pilates and Yoga it’s the
perfect way to get fit with the support of a team environment.

SilverSneakers
The month of March brought 623 SilverSneakers visits to our
facility. This month we received $1,512.00 from trinity Health.
SilverSneakers members have full facility access which includes
group exercise classes, swimming pool access, cardio and weight
equipment and more. For more information on the Silver Sneaker
Program and to see if you qualify please contact the Fitness and
Aquatic Center at (909) 820-2611.

Facility Rentals
The Fitness and Aquatic Center swimming pool and sun deck are
available for rent to host your next event. If you would like more
information regarding rental dates and pricing please call the
Fitness & Aquatic Center at 909.820.2611.

New Members
From March 13, 2018 to April 15, 2018 the Fitness and Aquatic Center would like to welcome 20
new members to our facility. Now until April 30, 2018 we have a $0.00 joining fee special on our
monthly and annual memberships. Interested customer will only pay their first month’s dues at
signing.

Rialto Fitness & Aquatics Center

Swim Lessons
We currently have 100 group and private swim lesson participants from March 14, 2018 to April
15, 2018. Our next swim lesson registration for group lessons is Saturday, April 28st and Sun-
day, April 29th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. With classes scheduled to start the week of Monday,
April 30th. Rialto resident discounts available with proof of address. (Utility bill or Driver’s Li-
cense/ID card)

Swim Team
The Rialto Sea Turtles swim team currently has 21 swimmers enrolled for the March 14, 2018
to April 15, 2018. Looking to join a team and compete in the sport of swimming or just advance
your swimming techniques. Contact us for try out information and monthly fees. Next registra-
tion starts May 1st.

Jr. Lifeguarding Program
Our March Junior Lifeguarding course has been postponed to begin in June due to students not
being available to attend our scheduled classes. However we are now having sign up for a pre-
test on May 28th-June 3rd. Our Junior Lifeguarding program for ages 11 to 14 is structured to
teach water safety and introduce participants to the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard.
Our goal is for our students to build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills in prepara-
tion for the American Red Cross Lifeguard course.

Next Swim test scheduled is May 28th to June 3rd for our June course. Parents must call
to schedule a time for pre-test.
Fee: $85 per student

Lifeguarding Program
Sign up now for our Lifeguard program for ages 15 and up. The Lifeguard program provides en-
try-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic
emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden
illnesses until EMS personnel take over.

Swim test scheduled for Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10:00 am

Fee: $185.00 per student

Lap and Recreation Swim
Lap Swimming is available throughout the week for fitness center members and guests who pay
the daily walk in fee. We continue to have some interest in our recreation swim times. From
March 14, 2018 to April 15, 2018 we have sold a combined 110 daily lap/rec swim passes along
with our 10 visit passes.

Facility Rentals
Our March 24th, Science Experience rental was a success, high school student built a robot
that was capable of completing an obstacle course without complication and on the best time.
Science Experience staff is very interested in renting our facility next year for the next science
experience competition for the 3rd time.
