Good afternoon to all, and welcome to the Forest Town Arena
for today’s FA Trophy clash with Hednesford Town.
I hope that the hour-and-a-half journey was pleasant for all who
travelled from Hednesford today, and I extend my very warmest of
welcomes to our opponents.
This an extremely special occasion for us here at AFC Mansfield,
as we progress further into a competition we have never partaken
in before.
Our FA Trophy debut was far from memorable with a 0-0 draw at
Soham Town Rangers, but we came back stronger in the replay
and saw off our opponents who played very well.
Last Saturday, however, was obviously disappointing with our 1-0
defeat to Brighouse Town in the league, which meant that we
haven’t won any of our last six league games. When on a run like
the one we are on, it’s important to stick together as a team and
work together towards solving our problems. That is exactly what
we are doing; we believe in ourselves and we know that results will
come.
We know that today will provide a very tough game, against a team
who are in a higher league and who therefore will be the bookies’
favourites... But everyone knows that league standings don’t
matter in cup competitions, and anyone can beat anyone on the
day. “Hopefully we can
prove ourselves
