for inspiration in 2016
TAGHeuer is one of Switzerland’s heritage watch brands and, as
such, has the advantage of appealing to its archives for design
inspiration. The company applies modern technology and materials to beloved
historic sports models, and the results are first-rate.
The Heuer Monza Chronograph is an updated version of an icon that
celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The Monza was originally issued in
1976 to celebrate Niki Lauda’s first world championship title with Ferrari. The
anniversary version focuses on the watch’s two key functions — the pulsometer
and the tachymeter scale — with the original font and black and white hands.
New are the titanium case, which makes it lighter and more shock resistant,
and the Super-LumiNova (which wasn’t invented until 1993).
Also iconic for the brand is the Carrera Heuer-01, TAG Heuer’s
signature chronograph model. It contains the new in-house
movement, Caliber HEUER-01, based on the 1887 caliber, and a
new modular case design with 12 elements that enable multiple
combinations of materials and colors. Those options include a
rubber, titanium, or steel bracelet, as well as an option that
includes ceramic and rubber — the case bezel, lugs and case
middle are made from black ceramic to minimize signs of wear.
It is fitted with a textured rubber strap.
The latest version of TAG Heuer’s hugely successful Carrera
Connected Watch has also been created with the brand’s heritage in
mind. The watch takes the shape of a mechanical TAG Carrera, with
a 46 mm case made of titanium. However, it is an Android Powered
smartwatch, with a crown that acts as the control center. The watch
features three different TAG Heuer faces — a chronograph, a three
hand, and a GMT. The chronograph works by tapping the screen once
to start and stop, and twice for resetting. The black rubber strap can

facets on the top of the gem for maximum light reflection and

muscleBUILDING
American muscle cars from the mid-twentieth century are
among the most beautiful vehicles ever made
For many people, owning a classic
muscle car is both a goal and a measure
of financial success. American muscle cars
from the mid-twentieth century are among
the most beautiful vehicles ever made and
are even more popular today than when
they were first introduced to the market.
There seems to be a bit of a misconception,
however, that membership in the muscle
car club is open to only the fortunate few
with an excessive amount of disposable
income. Certainly, there are muscle cars
that can command prices of well over
$100,000, but you might be surprised at
how affordable many of America’s finest
collectible automobiles can be.
]12 O R L O F F J E W E L E R S M A G A Z I N E
Firstly, we must dispense with the myth of cost.
According to statistics from Kelley Blue Book,
the average transaction price on the purchase of a
brand-new vehicle in August of 2015 was $33,543.
By comparison, classic car insurance provider
Hagerty lists the average value of a 1971 Chevrolet
Nova SS, a true Mopar classic, as $22,100. While
this is only one example of one particular muscle
car, it clearly shows that there are instances in
which a classic can be purchased for far less than
the cost of a brand-new modern vehicle. There
are, of course, classic cars that are either so rare
or so popular that they do tend to tip the scales at
a fairly hefty price, but there are at least as many
great examples of pretty sweet machines that are,
honestly, relatively affordable.
One common barrier that those interested in
buying a classic car encounter is the availability
of financing. Even though many classics may be
purchased for less than the price of a new or lightly
used car, $30,000 financed over five years can be
much easier to deal with than $20,000 paid out
in one lump sum. Unfortunately, most banks will
not provide car loans for classic or antique vehicles.
However, if you have reasonably good credit, there
are ways to get the money you need for a classic
muscle car and pay it back over time. The easiest
method is simply to seek out a personal loan. The
obvious downside is it requires well above average
credit to qualify for an unsecured loan large enough
to purchase the car of your dreams. Another option
is to seek out a loan from a lender which specializes
in collector car financing, an industry which has
grown tremendously over the past decade. Finally,
those who wish to purchase a classic muscle car
can apply for a peer-to-peer loan via online social
lending platforms. These loans not only tend to
have fewer usage restrictions than bank loans but
also carry lower interest rates than most traditional
banks offer.
If you are willing to find classics that are not
among the most expensive and be creative in
financing your purchase, there is a good chance
that a great muscle car is well within your ability
to purchase. The barrier to buying classic vehicles
is much lower than most people believe it to be.
The myth of insanely priced classic muscle cars is
largely a product of car auctions in which high-
dollar buyers bid for the best of the best vehicles,
usually with heavy performance modifications.
However, for those who have always dreamed of
owning a classic muscle car, the dream is much
more achievable than you might think.

If you have already invested in a tailored blazer, a good handbag and diamond stud earrings,
then you understand the value of classics. Now it is time to add a grownup watch to your

Multiple strand 18k gold and

Masai collection.
Your designs are famous for their intricate goldsmithing.
Why do you love working with the surface of the gold?
Marco Bicego: Gold has always been my medium of choice; it’s the hallmark of my brand and my personal heritage. Having spent
every summer at my father’s goldsmithing atelier in Vicenza, the gold capital of the world, I learned my art under master craftsmen.
Gold has been a cornerstone of my craft ever since. It’s a great metal to manipulate by hand, using the ageless Bulino technique, which
creates hundreds of textured grooves on the surface and remains practically unalterable over time. My approach to gold blends old world
Italian craftsmanship with my contemporary vision and artistry, making each piece unique and perfectly imperfect.

Bracelet from the your collections?
Masai collection.
MB: Our combination of color and gold is distinct
because of the wonderful play between the textured
finish of our hand-engraved pieces and the dazzling
colors set against them. The liquid-like texture of the
gold allows the colors to interact with it in a way
that is unique and signature to the brand. The brand’s
core collections are always being expanded, which
includes adding vibrant colors with semi-precious
gemstones. Many of our collections are customer
favorites, so we design the extensions as the logical
evolution of them.
What is inspiring you right now?
MB: I’m always greatly inspired by my travels,
seeing exotic places and encountering wonderful
cultures. My most recent inspiration has been the
African Masai tribe. They are an ethnic group of
semi-nomadic people who inhabit southern Kenya
and northern Tanzania. They wear these beautiful,
intricately beaded and woven necklaces that are
multi-layered and elegantly fall against their body.
I was so amazed by the artistry and craftsmanship
of them that I named my most recent collection
Masai. The pieces are made of hand-coiled strands
of 18k yellow and white gold that are gracefully
layered together and feature pronounced stations
of diamonds. They similarly adapt to the body’s
natural shape and are ideal for mixing and stacking,
or wearing as a bold, stand-alone piece.

SCOTCHfree
(Or Close Enough)
3 Great Scotches under $100
Single malt scotch is among the most iconic of beverages. Not only is it a drink that has a remarkable complexity
of flavor, but it is also one that has a culture and a community all its own surrounding it. The downside to this,
however, is that single malt scotches can command price tags that border on the lunatic. So, what is the lover of
scotch whiskey with only an average bank account to do? Fortunately, there are some great scotches that don’t break
the bank. Here are the three best single malt scotch whiskeys that come in under $100.
1.Glenlivet 18 Year Old
In the world of scotch, Glenlivet is both a classic and a perennial favorite. Based in Moray, the Glenlivet distillery has
been producing high-quality scotch since 1824, and its 18 year old single malt is one of its classic offerings. More powerful
and flavorful than its younger 12 and 15 year old counterparts, the Glenlivet 18 year old delivers a very strong but smooth
tasting experience. This is definitely a scotch for those who have already acquired
the taste for it, but its strength is combined with a rich blend of flavors that
are much more pronounced than in younger Glenlivet scotches. This
scotch is near the upper end of the price range at about $90 per bottle.

THE DAY I DIE, I WISH IT TO BE WITH A
CIGARETTE IN ONE HAND AND A GLASS
OF WHISKEY IN THE OTHER.”
— Ava Gardner
]22 O R L O F F J E W E L E R S M A G A Z I N E
2.Dalmore 12 Year Old
This particular offering from the Dalmore distillery in Alness is a classic 12 year
old with a fairly dark coloration and a richly mixed flavor. The flavor of this particular
scotch is a bit less earthy than some other high-end single malts, but it also has an
unusually spicy quality to it that differentiates it from its peers. Dalmore is known
for delicious but expensive scotches, leaving its 12 year old variety as its only regular
issue that is within the price range we have set out. Coming in at $70 per bottle, this
Dalmore is a great value and a drink that will please any scotch lover on a budget.
“ I SHOULD NEVER HAVE SWITCHED
FROM SCOTCH TO MARTINIS.”
— Humphrey Bogart
3.Glendronach 15 Year Old Revival Sherry Cask
Barely meeting the price criteria at about $99 per bottle
(depending on where you find it) is this special release from
Glendronach. This one is a bit more specialized than the
previous two, which are both well-established classic scotches.
Nevertheless, it certainly delivers in the flavor department.
Aged for 15 years in sherry casks, this scotch has more than
just a hint of a sherry overtone in it, as well as a pleasant bit of
spice that is noticeable, but not overwhelming. For those who
like to savor highly nuanced flavors, this scotch is a steal.
While these scotches are certainly well worth looking into,
there are many great scotch whiskeys out there that offer good
value at a reasonable price. Shop around and try new varieties,
and you might be surprised at just how many economical
single malt scotches are on the market. Of course, for those
who don’t mind a blended scotch, they are also a great option
when trying to find great scotch on a tight budget.

Keep your diamond ring shiny with regular cleaning. 14k white gold contemporary engagement

Over the course of time, your diamond can be dulled by

the buildup to get too severe. When cleaning your diamond ring, don’t use
chemicals or harmful solutions, as they can damage the metals and weaken the structure of
your diamond ring. Use warm, soapy water with liquid soap. For a more intense clean, find a
soft toothbrush, or a child’s toothbrush, and gently work around the stone and setting. Don’t
be too rough with the cleaning; dry it with a lint-free cloth. For special occasions, you can
have your diamond ring professionally cleaned for that added glint.
Over time, your diamond ring will be bumped, smacked, and hit in the course of your
everyday movements. Though your ring should be durable enough, you should schedule regular
checkups with your jeweler. Prongs are especially vulnerable, and when they become loose, the
danger is losing a stone. At your checkup, the jeweler can ascertain the strength of the setting
and tighten it up for better security. This is a preventative measure to keep your diamond ring
intact and is highly advised.
Like anything else that gets worn or used daily, diamond rings can be lost, damaged,
or stolen. Should this happen, you will wish you had gotten insurance for it.
Buying insurance for your diamond ring can be as easy and straightforward
as you might like. It can be done online and within minutes. Don’t assume
that your general insurance covers your ring adequately. Look into your
policy and seriously consider a separate policy for your precious jewelry.
Accidents happen, but they don’t need to set you back financially.
Caring for your diamond ring is not always a straightforward business. It
requires attention and thoughtfulness, two things that can erode over the daily
use of your diamond ring. But if you keep it clean, secure, and insured, your ring
will sparkle long into your marriage and last for the generations to follow.

iconic red MW crown, and classic Roman numeral indexes.
The Serein 16 has the same oval case, also set with diamonds, but it is
slightly smaller, at 36mm wide. It contains a Swiss movement with hour and
minute functions. The mother-of-pearl dial, set with Roman numerals, blends
classic elements with modern femininity.
The Serein 12 is also sized down, with a 28mm oval case. It has a Swiss
movement with hour and minute functions as well as a small seconds subdial.
This polished version of the signature Serein is the perfect cocktail watch.

THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Situated right in the geographic and cultural heart of Europe, the small, landlocked
8country of the Czech Republic is enriched by its ancient history and natural beauty. From
the magnificent city of Prague to the forested mountains of north Bohemia to the wine cellars
of Moravia, there’s truly something for everyone. Here are 8 reasons to book your trip.
PRAGUE
Prague has become one of Europe’s biggest tourist
destinations for good reason; sporting over a thousand
years of history and some of the finest architecture of
any city in the world, it can easily rival the likes of Paris
or Rome in terms of charm. However, being relatively
small city, many of the sites are easily seen on foot or
using the city’s excellent and very cheap public transport
system. Many of the main sites, such as the castle and
surrounding historic Malá Strana district and world-
famous Charles Bridge, can easily be seen in a day.
SPORTING OVER A THOUSAND YEARS OF HISTORY AND SOME OF THE
FINEST ARCHITECTURE OF ANY CITY IN THE WORLD, PRAGUE CAN
EASILY RIVAL THE LIKES OF PARIS OR ROME IN TERMS OF CHARM.
NATURE FESTIVALS
Czechs love the outdoors, and the country has Traditions are very much alive and well in the Czech Republic, particularly

If you have the time, a visit to Ceský ráj in northern Bohemia When people think skiing in Europe, they often think of

namely in the so-called Rock Town of Hrubá Skála. cross-country skiing is a popular sport among locals and visitors
alike, and most of the slopes are ideal for beginners.
BREWERIES
Beer is perhaps the one thing that the Czech Republic is most
famous for internationally, and with good reason. Czech beer is
one of the best in the world, and you’ll find some of the larger
brews all over the globe. However, the last 10 years or so have
seen an enormous boom in home brewing, a trend that fuelled
the success of the Prague Beer Festival and many smaller beer
festivals around the country.

CASTLES
If you have a thing for postcard-perfect fairy-tale castles, then the
Czech Republic certainly won’t disappoint. There are dozens of castles
and stately homes all over the country, particularly in northern Bohemia.
The most visited among Czech castles is Karlštejn, due to its proximity
to Prague, making it one of the most popular day trips from the city.
Šternberk Castle is the best-preserved Gothic castle in the country,
and it’s an easy day trip from Prague. For those who prefer the baroque
style, the splendid Lednice Castle in South Moravia should be at the
top of your list of places to visit, although it’s a long way from Prague.
WINE
People have been making wine in what is now the Czech Republic
for nearly 1,800 years since the Romans introduced it. Today, almost
all of the wine industry is located in Moravia, the eastern half of the
country. As such, you’ll often hear Czech wine referred to more
correctly as Moravian wine.
If you’re a wine lover, you’ll find the cellars near the Moravian
town of Znojmo to be among the most interesting. The region also
hosts a number of wine festivals, all of which take place in September
around harvest time. This is also the only time of year when you will
find the so-called “young wine” on sale in many wine bars and pubs
throughout the country.
AFFORDABILITY
The Czech Republic remains one of the most affordable countries
in Europe when it comes to the cost of living. Of course, many
tourists don’t take advantage of this fact because they end up
sticking to the main tourist traps, where they’ll often unwittingly
spend two to three times more on things like food and drink than
they would in a local place.
Almost everything is affordable in the Czech Republic, including
public transport, food and drink and accommodation. Prague is, of
course, more expensive than anywhere else in the country, but it
remains one of Europe’s most affordable city-break destinations. If
you go to the right places, you can easily enjoy an excellent meal with
drinks included for $15 or less.
The Czech Republic is undoubtedly an excellent destination for
anyone who loves nature, culture, food, festivals, or nightlife. It has
something to offer everyone, and it’s a great place to visit at any time
of year. Finally, you should have no difficulty finding cheap flights
with budget airlines to Prague and the Moravian capital Brno from
many major European cities.

Over the past 10 years, men have dramatically increased their expenses on jewelry, fashion,
and personal grooming. According to The NPD Group, total sales of men’s accessories in the
U.S. jumped 28.7 percent from 2012 to 2014, rising from $11.5 billion to $14.8 billion, with
jewelry sales rising from $2.9 billion to $4.3 billion during that period.
Fortune describes men’s fashion as entering a renaissance, with top stores expanding their
men’s sections, including luxury accessories. The New York Times Fashion & Style Section
proclaims: “Jewelry for Men Is Back in Vogue.”
The most popular accessories on the runway for men in 2016 include beads, necklaces, and
wristbands with bohemian flare, as well as sculptural brooches and pendant necklaces that add
an air of polish to more austere styles. Band rings, with or without stones, and chain bracelets are
also favorites. In fact, bracelets in particular are popular for men, with the growing trend to stack
different types like chain, leather, and gem beads. Men are adding on to their look by layering
pendants, crosses, and symbolic tags.
The clear trend in men’s jewelry in the last several years when gold became very expensive
was the use of alternative metals. From tungsten and stainless steel to titanium and other
exotic alloys, alternative metals have become staples in men’s jewelry. Because they’re more
affordable and easily mixed with materials like leather, rubber, wood, and enamel, there has
been tremendous creativity in the category.
But with gold prices more attractive and stabilized now, men are gravitating to gold,
especially in rings and with diamonds. Besides white diamonds, men are keen on black and
brown diamonds, as well as gems like sapphire, garnet, black onyx, jasper, lapis, and tiger’s eye.
Beyond traditionally manly stones, a broad range of gems like turquoise, coral, and mother-of-
pearl is set in men’s jewelry.
Personalization is important to men, particularly in ways they can subtly express their
personality. Cufflinks are a big part of that. Color and whimsy are capturing the imagination of
many French-cuff-wearing gents, in an array of motifs, with enamel and gemstones, even with
moving parts to play with.

force behind a design renaissance in jewelry. From malachite and lemon quartz to the
finest rubies and emeralds, jewelry designers have been finding new ways to invent
jewelry with colored gemstones in every price range. The adventurous mixing of colors
has never been more prominent.
Although all gems are popular, there is a trend toward pastels, particularly pale pink
and blue gems, such as rose quartz, chalcedony and aquamarine. The trend is partly a
reflection of the two Pantone colors of the year: rose quartz and serenity blue. But pastel
gems of all hues are popular, including everything from lilac sapphire to blue moonstone.
There are also plenty of opaque gems and mineral gems, such as malachite and onyx, to
add color to jewelry.
Among the design trends are horizontal bar necklaces, a look that can be either simple
or bold. Reflecting the rectangular silhouette of horizontal bar necklaces is a trend in
rings to vertical rectangles, with baguettes arranged in the north/south position. The look
is geometric, a bit Art Deco, but also very modern, simple and accessible. Mismatched
earrings are another strong trend that is best expressed using colored gemstones. Mixing
gemstone shapes and colors in earrings that are similar but not the same is extremely
dramatic. And stackable rings are still strong, presenting another opportunity to mix
gemstones.
Emerging trends include “in-orbit” or caged rings and earrings, consisting of a center
gemstone or earring drop surrounded by arcs of gold set with diamonds or, with earrings,
tiny link chains or hanging rows of diamonds that leave the color peeking through. Doubles
is another emerging trend — not to be confused with doublets, which are stacked one
gem on top of the other. Doubles are identical gems in slightly different shapes or hues,
arranged side by side. Statement necklaces are both classic and trendy. Collars and chokers
are a big part of the current look, but no matter the shape or style — from V-necks to
Y-shapes — the concept is best expressed using bold color.

Movement, not conversation, is Mr. Walken’s method
of communication: just watch his saucy, sexy striptease in
Steve Martin’s 1981 gem Pennies from Heaven. When I ask Mr.
Walken if he considers himself a predecessor to Magic Mike — the
Channing Tatum film based on his experiences as a male erotic
dancer in Florida — I’m met with a predictably baffled expression.
Even though I should know better, I plow on with the description of
the film, sounding more and more ridiculous as I watch the minutes
of this interview slip by, and when I’m finished, Mr. Walken doesn’t
seem to have any more of a clue what I’m talking about. “So,” he
finally responds. “Which one is Channing Tatum?”
This is not to say Mr. Walken isn’t entertaining to be around
because of his hesitations. He’s prone to answer many specific
questions about his favorite roles with odd, zen-like koans. I
mention a couple of websites I had found where fans had ranked
his performances. “I don’t have a computer or cellphone, but I
understand that there are all these sites that...” he trails off. “If you’re
an actor, I guess it’s dangerous to look yourself up. But lists like that
may be pretty interesting. With movies in particular. To go down a
list and see a movie that I’ve never heard of. And then you watch it
and it’s a great movie.” Also, though, there is Abel Ferrara’s King of
New York, a Walken favorite because a lot of the dialogue was made
up on the spot and there was no budget for wardrobe.
And At Close Range, with Sean Penn, a brutal father-and-son tale
based on real events. “The father again is just a terrible villain,” Mr.
Walken surmises, before adding that he liked Catch Me If You Can,
with Leonardo DiCaprio, because “I played a good dad in that, and
also, it was a very good movie.”
Now that we’re just free-associating, I mention
that he was also an amiable patriarch in the
1999 Brendan Fraser comedy Blast from the
Past.
“Right! That was a great movie, that
was crazy!” Mr. Walken is suddenly
animated. “Not many people saw it,
but what fun. Crazy people living
underground!”
