memory is ’tator doing his “dinner

out and the birds would descend to help
him eat.

PATH TO OLD FRIENDS

Jack Preston, who owned Prestonwood
Farm, campaigned this multiple stakes-
winning gelding until Special Ring was 9.
He called Tim Overton, who was the farm
manager for Alfred Nuckols’s Hurstland
Farm where Old Friends was based at the
time. Tim said Special Ring was a great
horse and, at the time, Old Friends had a
great slot for him. A few days later, Special
Ring arrived from just a few miles away,
and he’s been here ever since.

Patton Michael Blowen: Patton should have been named Gandhi. He
was one of the kindest stallions we’ve ever had at Old Friends. Like

MAJOR RACES WON: Gulfstream Park Breeders’ Cup Sprint Beth Shannon, tour guide: Polish Navy was one of two one-
