MAJOR CHANGES IN THE
TIMESHARE WORLD

This first quarter of 2021 has experienced consolidation fever like never
seen before in the timeshare industry with major shifts in the lineup of
corporate timeshare companies. Among the many changes, Hilton Grand
Vacations (HGV) announced the purchase of Diamond Resorts International;
Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corporation agreed to acquire Welk Resorts;
Wyndham Destinations announced the acquisition of the popular travel brand
Travel + Leisure from Meredith Corporation and adopted the magazine’s
name for the entire company; Capital Vacations Club agreed to an exclusive
exchange affiliation agreement with RCI, a member of Travel + Leisure Co.’s
Panorama family of travel brands; and Hyatt has now acquired Apple Leisure
Group, which adds the largest portfolio of high-end all-inclusive resorts in all
of the Americas under the AMR Collection brand. The jury is out on what
all of this may mean in the timeshare industry, but what it could mean is
that the average owner will now have a larger base of resorts to choose from
under their ownership brand, be it, Club Wyndham, Hilton Grand Vacations,
Marriott Resorts, Hyatt Residence Club Resorts, Welk Resorts, and Diamond
