About the Shows :: From Our President FROM OUR PRESIDENT Lisa Baker

Welcome to one of Theatre Aspen’s most anticipated seasons! You asked and we have
delivered. Theatre Aspen is thrilled to be one of only a handful of regional theaters across the
nation to bring Mamma Mia! to the stage. Over sixty million people around the world have seen
this exuberant show. Yet, no audience has seen this fun and raucous production so up close and
personal. Mamma Mia’s Dancing Queen will rock the Hurst Theatre all summer!

For those of you seeking non-musical fun, look no further than our one-man show, Buyer &
Cellar. This clever look at the mall beneath Barbra Streisand’s Malibu mansion (yes, it does
exist!) will surely delight. And, as is Theatre Aspen tradition, we will feature Broadway-caliber
entertainment for the entire family with our musical matinee production of Dear Edwina.

And if this isn’t enough theater for you, please join us for the second annual Aspen Theatre Fest.
The festival is an incubator for new work and culminates with a presentation in the Hurst Theatre
on August 25th. This year’s musical is The Museum of Broken Relationships, also selected for the
O’Neill Festival in June.

We remain immensely excited about Theatre Aspen’s connection to Broadway. Our very own Paige Price, Theatre Aspen’s Executive
Artistic Director, is now a member of the Tony Awards nominating committee. Theatre Aspen alumni continue to star in hit shows on
Broadway. And this summer, those of you enjoying the sound quality of Mamma Mia! will have Nevin Steinberg to thank. Nevin is also the
award-winning sound designer for that Broadway uber-hit, HAMILTON!

Theatre Aspen’s commitment to our education programs has never been stronger. Starting with the youngest of thespians, we extend our
educational opportunities to all ages. Stop by the performances of our Musical Theatre Workshop production of Bye Bye Birdie to see
just how good our local young talent can be. Our Apprentice Program recruits some of the best and brightest acting and technical talent
from across the country. Fifteen college and graduate level theatre students will perfect their crafts with TA this summer, so don’t miss
their showcase on August 14th!

Finally, as my tenure as Board President draws to a close, I want to thank the dedicated Aspen community for your continued support
of Theatre Aspen. Without your patronage, TA would not be the award-winning powerhouse, and theatre education leader that it has
become. I also want to acknowledge the dedicated, hardworking and generous Theatre Aspen Board who has played such an important
part in helping Paige reach her lofty goals.

To you, to Paige and to the immensely talented Theatre Aspen staff and casts, as they sing in Mamma Mia!, “Thank you for the Music!”

MAMMA MIA! – The ultimate feel-good show!

This sunny, funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding,
a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her
mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.
The magic of ABBA's songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and
friendship and should bring audiences to their dancing feet every night!
The timeless songs featured in MAMMA MIA! Include DANCING QUEEN, TAKE A
CHANCE ON ME, THE NAME OF THE GAME and THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL.

BUYER & CELLAR – A one-man comedy

Alex More, a struggling actor freshly fired from Disney World, takes a job working in the
Malibu basement mall of beloved megastar Barbra Streisand. One day, the Lady Herself
comes downstairs to play, and ‘buy’ her favorite treat from her personal frozen yogurt
machine. It feels like real bonding in the basement, but will their relationship ever make it
upstairs? BUYER & CELLAR is an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of
things, and the oddest of odd jobs. Recommended for audiences over 13.

DEAR EDWINA – A musical for all ages

Created by the team that brought you Junie B. Jones, DEAR EDWINA stars an
exuberant 13-year-old problem solver, Edwina Spoonapple, who dishes out advice with
the help of her friends and a little song and dance. Written in a “show-within- a-show”
format, DEAR EDWINA is the perfect “girl power” musical for a new generation.
A heartwarming musical about the joys of growing up, this 60-minute musical is
recommended for audiences age 4 and up.
