Awaken: Star Wars
Part the Seventh
Hark! The Shakespearian saga
doth continue once more!
Since 2013, author Ian Doescher has been
combining his dual loves for the works of
William Shakespeare and Star Wars by
adapting the entire movie saga into iambic
pentameter. Now, Doescher begins his
adaptation of the sequel trilogy with William
Shakespeare’s The Force Doth Awaken: Star
Wars Part the Seventh.
As the Resistance clashes with the First
Order, heroes Rey, Finn, and Poe are pulled
into a galaxy-wide drama, and the knave Kylo
Ren continues his treachery most foul.
Complete with Elizabethan verse,
Shakespearian monologues, and theatrical
stage directions, the 176-page hardcover
volume, coming out in early October by Quirk
Books, is certain to delight fans of Star Wars
and Shakespeare enthusiasts alike. Woodcut-
style illustrations by Nicolas Delort further set
the stage for the period parlance.

engineered the collision
of the Separatists’

Jedi with their newly

Key Moment: As a

Jedi realize that
deploying them means
they have lost the war
before it is begun.
The Battle

Outmatched by the vast

Naboo’s Gungan natives

in a conflict designed to
set the scene for the

The Battle of Hoth
The rebels are on the back foot on the
planet Hoth, as the Empire strikes back
after their defeat at Yavin. Their
ingenuity stalls the oncoming AT-ATs,
but they are forced to flee the icy world.
Key Moment: It’s all over for the rebels
the moment General Veers gets close
enough to attack their main generator.
With nothing to power its energy shield,
the rebel base is a sitting duck.
The Battle of
Scarif
Fomented by a small

that cemented the

Absolutely. These shorts

Forces of Destiny is all about
what makes a hero. What do
you think are Padmé’s most
heroic traits?
She has diplomacy, which these
days is really a lost virtue. There’s
so much anger and animosity,
it seems like everyone is just yelling
at one another. I love that the fi rst
thing she does is try to understand
the situation and the other person’s
side. But I also love that, when that
doesn’t work, she’s also willing
to get in there and fight a battle.
To quote another trilogy that
I love, there are some things worth
fighting for. That’s something
that Padmé really knows, and

of those things. What I love about

I can’t think of a better message
at this point in time. Some things
are worth fighting for, and your
friends are probably at the top of
the list.
Which of Padmé’s friendships
will Forces of Destiny explore?
There are some Padmé and Anakin
moments, which make me very
happy, because I love seeing them
together. There’s also a great
friendship between Padmé and
Ahsoka, so it’s kind of like getting
the old gang back together! I’m
excited for fans because I know
they miss that from The Clone
Wars. We’re all excited to be giving
them a little taste of that again.
Is there a part of you that is like,
or tries to be like, Padmé?
She is pretty close to me in the
sense that I like the idea of being
a lady, but I also like the idea of
getting in there and fi ghting when
necessary. So she’s pretty true to
me in that sense. She likes to keep
things positive, but when the time
comes, she’s willing to get her
hands dirty. That’s pretty easy for 13

Troubled Times 01
In 1977, the United States was
a country coming to terms with
itself. Since the 1960s, the civil
rights movement, women’s
