On Thursday, PC Maria Shearing lead two separate talks on e-safety for
Years 5 and 6, and Years 7 and 8. While it is important to recognise the benefits of Contact Us
the internet, it is also essential that young people understand how to keep themselves
safe. PC Shearing reiterated that pupils must understand how to alter their privacy Claremont Prep and Nursery School

much diverse and exciting talent on display. The Junior, Boys and Chamber choirs sang
beautifully, treating us to an eclectic range of uplifting songs. The soloists played and Newsletter Editor:

impressive degree of self-possession. The humorous verse pieces were delivered with
exquisite comic timing. During what has been, on a national level, a harrowing week,
the Soirée provided a wonderfully joyful note.

And yet the term was not quite over. On a day which dawned mercifully dry
(after the deluge of Wednesday!), the Nursery and Pre-Prep and their Easter bonnets
marched into the Peace Park to enjoy the Easter egg hunt (thank you to FOCS), while
the whole of Claremont Prep School converged at the pavilion to start the annual
sponsored walk. Some pupils (headed by a speedy Mrs Edmunds) chose to run the
course, while the rest of us took our time, pausing to enjoy the carpets of white
anemones beneath the trees. With so many signs of rebirth and renewal around the
school, it seemed a fitting way to begin the Easter holiday.

Abra Stoakley

We hope you have a lovely Easter and look forward to seeing you again for the Summer

This years Science fair was the
most successful yet, with a
record number of students
taking part. As always, there
was a large array of subjects
researched and presented..'How can you live a fulfilled
life? What is a virus? Why do stars twinkle? The
motivation and knowledge of the students never fails to
impress. Interpersonal skills were gained and marketing skills we mastered as the
pupils encouraged others to visit their stalls. A certificate was award to all pupils
that entered. Mr Slattery, Mrs Perry and Mrs Ackerley would like to say an
enormous 'well done' to everyone who took part. You made your Science teachers
very proud. Who won the top prizes seems almost irrelevant as everyone who took
part succeeded. Winners though will be announced in the next Newsletter
issue.

The Y8 girls took place in their last
Netball session at Claremont Prep School
on Wednesday and what better way to
celebrate that occasion than by naming a
tournament after them!

This week the girls have been learning how
to officiate the game and armed with that
knowledge they were presented with the
opportunity to officiate and manage their
very own tournament, namely the inaugural
'Y8 Netball Festival'

All of the girls in Y5-7 were taking part
and placed into even teams with two Y8
girls at the helm of each team. In each
round the Y8s organised, managed and
umpired their games. At the end the Y8
girls were presented with their 'Netball

Umpiring' certificate. As they head up to
the Senior School some of these girls
might like to take this experience further
by embarking on the 'Sports Leaders'
Programme. I really think they enjoyed
the responsibility and certainly some of
the younger girls can't wait until it is their
turn!

Year two ventured to Penshurst place for a Tudor reinactment! Thank you to Trish Edwards and Jenny Nicholls for
coming!
We met Queen Elizabeth who took an alarming liking to Mr Cook, even asking him to be her carriage servant!

We met a Tudor

Nikolas: The bell man was excellent! I bet he saw lots of crimes and lots of heads chopped off!
Oskar: Varnika got dressed up like Queen Elizabeth I.
Elsie: Queen Elizabeth was very strict. She had a pretty red dress and round her were at least ten
treasure boxes (which I loved.)
Ami: The musical man played us
the bag pipes and I've no idea
what the mini guitar was!
Alicia: The bell man had to ring a
bell when he saw a crime going on.
He told James to sit in the
stocks.
Ella: The doctor pretended to put
a frog in Miles's throat.

The Foxes went into the woods, armed with magnifying glasses and collecting pots, on their
mission to find “bugs”. We carefully turned over logs and found earthworms, centipedes and little
beetles. We studied the mossy surfaces of tree trunks looking for spiders and woodlice. We
made the most of the boisterous March wind and chased bubbles during Forest School. Then we
had fun exploring technology, by using an electric whisk to make rainbow bubbles, for sensory
play in Foxes. Maths in the playground involved a huge foam die and a target, namely Chester our
class mascot fox. Bean bags had to be tossed into Chester’s circle which was in the middle of
another, and bigger circle. A high number on the die meant starting further out from the outer
circle, making it a bit more of a throwing and aiming challenge. In phonics we have been focusing
on alliteration and designing alliterative aliens.

This week we have really been exploring our creative side with Mother’s day and Easter coming
up. We have been busy modelling and painting (without giving too much away for our Mother’s Day
presents). We have also made Easter crowns and made spring colour paintings. We enjoyed a
focused number activity in the garden this week with number cones and sorting bears. We sorted
the cones in the right order then placed the right number of bears in front of the corresponding
number.

The Badgers have has an exciting week, reading the series of 'Aliens in Underpants' stories. To
help explore them, we had lots of fun creating our own underpants, by cutting different pieces
of material out and creating collages! We have also been painting our own aliens and pirates as
they also make an appearance throughout the stories! To add to this excitement, some children
have been thinking of some special words to do with aliens and pirates and trying to figure out
some of the sounds in these words.; some children went a step further in writing these words up!

This week the Hedgehogs have been making Mother’s Day cards ready for Sunday. We have also
been making Spring flowers for our new display board. Everyone is very excited about the egg hunt
on Friday and they have been decorating their own Easter bags in anticipation of filling them with
lots of goodies!

This week in Robins we had lots of fun in the woods and exploring in Forest School; it was super exciting in
the fairy part of the woods. We followed all the signs and looked through all the windows and doors to see if
any fairies were home. We have also been busy painting, making lovely Spring pictures to go up on our display
board.

This week the Ducklings and Butterflies have been looking at the story of The Hungry Caterpillar.
The babies then enjoyed butterfly printing, making caterpillars out of playdough and looking for
caterpillars in the garden.
The Butterflies have been busy making cakes, flowers and cards for their mummy's on Mother’s
Day.

This week the children wanted to learn about recycling. We looked at what can be recycled
and spoke about the different things could be made from trees. We went into the woods and
made bark rubbings on the tree trunks.
The Squirrels have also been taking home their cards and sunflower gifts for their mummys
for Mother's Day.

This has been filled
with many
unforgettable memories
and activities. We went
paintballing, bowling and
to the cinema. For next
term our planned
activities are trips to
London, archery, Go
Kart, Bewl Water and
many more.

Unfortunately, one of
our finest boarders will
not be returning after
the Easter holidays.
Pedro Bodega only came
for one term. Our big
boarding family will
miss him greatly, with
hopes of him returning
back to Claremont in
the near future.

A busy boarding house
is a happy boarding
house! In the Summer
term we will be
welcoming new boarders
from Ukraine, France
and Italy! New
friendships and life long
memories are being
created here in the
boarding house!

We wish all our
boarders a very Happy
Easter and look forward
to seeing you again
soon.
