expecting a sold-out crowd this year.”

The Southern Delaware Wine, Food &
Music Festival will be from noon to 3:30
p.m., Saturday, October 1. The Covered
Bridge at Hopkins Heartland will be
donating its property for the festivities
for the first time.

This year attendees will feast on food
from more than 20 local restaurants and
beverages that include more than 75 va-
rieties of wines, craft beers and cocktails.
Participants will rock to four bands in dif-
ferent locations on the historic grounds.
The Chef Throwdown’s signature event
will have a unique twist as two teams of
creative chefs battle in a “chop-style”
competition. There will also be a silent
auction with special packages on which
to bid, and other surprises.

This southern Delaware festival is
widely known for providing an array of
culinary experiences, award-winning
chefs, and a wide variety of wines, beer
and cocktails. But it’s so much more
than an amazingly indulgent day of
wine, food and music. It’s a celebration
of life, laughter, friendship and togeth-
erness that pours each year’s proceeds
into local nonprofits doing important
work to strengthen our community.

to volunteer or to purchase a ticket, visit

ing to the upbeat tunes of the popular
band Hot Sauce, heavy hors d’oeuvres,

The Lightship Overfalls (LV118) is the
only National Historic Landmark in
Sussex County and the only maritime
landmark in Delaware.

The ship sits grandly at the edge of
Lewes Canalfront Park, welcoming
young and old to explore its wonders
and learn about this important piece
of maritime history. The American
Lightship Museum displays maritime
artifacts from the lightship era.

With the lightship as its centerpiece,
the Overfalls Foundation collects,
preserves, honors and teaches the
maritime history of Lewes, the Dela-
ware Bay and the coastal region.

The Overfalls Foundation is an all-vol-
unteer organization. Funds raised
support preservation and maintenance
of this important landmark ship, local
scholarships, educational programs for
children and adults, and preservation
of maritime history through the ship
and its artifacts.
