MARCUS RASHFORD
Who is the Premier League’s most noteworthy prospect? I guarantee you that
it’s Marcus Rashford. 19 years old and has already taken the Premier League
into his hands, and being the game changer Manchester United deserve. The
English teenager represents the dreams of every schoolboy across the United
Kingdom, epitomizing their hopes of making it big in the world’s most
competitive league. Here’s what we have to say about young Marcus.
Born in Wythenshawe, south Manchester,
the teen whipped the Premier League into a
frenzy, at the centre of which he stood. As of
22nd October 2016, he marked 12 goals in
28 appearances for a fallen Manchester
outfit, a commendable achievement for
someone of his age. Bear in mind that most
of these appearances are coming off the
bench and making an impact for United in
times of dire need. He holds the record of
being United’s youngest ever goal scorer, a
feat he accomplished for the Red Devils in
nothing less than European competition, a
brace in the second half in a 5-1 win over
Danish opposition FC Midtjylland. Keep in
mind he dethroned George Best to add this
to his accolades.
What makes Marcus so special? Every centre forward needs these qualities: speed
on the ball, effective positioning, tactical awareness and definitely an eye for goal.
Rashford demonstrates these with incredible ease and fluidity, showing every fan of
the PL what he is capable of. In spite of this, Rashford is still low in the pecking order
for Jose Mourinho’s United, under proven goal scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and even
a supposedly fallen captain in Wayne Rooney, who has shifted from his central
midfield role into a more attacking midfielder disposition. Rashford has been
likened to Arsenal invincible Thierry Henry by United’s management’s staff for his
technical ability and his random sparks of creativity that define offensive players.
As a fan of the beautiful game, I’d like to see the youth of Rashford get more play
time alongside the experience of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney. For now,
only time will tell. One thing I can tell you is, Marcus Rashford is one for the future.

RENATO SANCHES
What more is there to say about young Renato? His speed, his athleticism, his
technique on the ball says it all, and that is why he caught the eye of several top
European heavyweights. However, it was German champions Bayern Munich
who captured the signature of the 19 year-old Portuguese midfielder, and the
recently crowned European Golden Boy for the previous season.
Standing at just 5’9’’, the impressive Portuguese talent took the world of
International football by storm in Portugal’s highly successful campaign at the
Euros, dominating with his incredible stamina, pace, tactical awareness and
resilience. Originally a Musgueira talent, the Portuguese box-to-box midfielder
was picked up by Benfica for their youth system at just 9 years-old. Little did
anyone know that in ten years’ time, the boy from an impoverished background in
lonely Amadora would become one of Europe’s poster boys for young children all
over the globe. Besides that fact, he would eventually go on to sign for German
powerhouses Bayern Munich, for a deal close upon 40 million euros, which could
approach 80 depending on his performance throughout this campaign.
What makes Renato so special? Well, where can we
begin? His playing style is reminiscent of former
Rossoneri Clarence Seedorf and Bianconeri
powerhouse Edgar Davids, in the sense of his build,
versatility in offence and defence, his wonderful
passing ability and his endless stamina. Notable traits
of his include his commendable flair on the ball,
probably a reminder of the fast Portuguese game.
What I personally like about him is that he adds a bit of
speed to Bayern, a team known for their meticulous
passing and possessive tendencies. Even in spite of
this, he is definitely one of Bayern’s most valuable
assets, due to his unselfish character and ability to play
practically anywhere in midfield despite his height.
However, the question is, will we see Renato fulfil his potential with Bayern, or
will he move on to another club, considering the speculation around a possible
transfer for him? Only time will tell. But for now, Renato Sanches is definitely
one for the future.
